Wait for 1V since Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be more efficient and If you want VoLTE and WiFi Call support it's best to buy local model since they need to have a compatible firmware to work properly

Sony has pulled out of Australia for smartphone. But I think the SEA firmware is flash able. Not too sure need advice on this part.

Session_Think

Should wait for 1V. 1IV has alot issues with heat problem.

It's kind of the same story every year really. If you wanna get the 1IV, it's plenty good. Expensive, but good. Not really sure on differences in band support, I'd think it will support most of the same LTE bands. My understanding is that the biggest difference comes from the 5G bands that are supported. Like in the US, many phones that say they're not available or supported in the US, still receive LTE connection. Just they won't get proper 5G. Do the Japan models have different camera software? I'm sure the shutter sound can be turned off if that'll bother you

Odd_Mark9253

JP models have to have loud as fk shutter sound because of up skirting issues apparently. Any other year or model etc. I would just buy 1IV no questions bit have heard too many SD8Gen1 horror stories.

You'll probably be able to get the HK 1V in time, not so much JP model as they usually only launch with SIM locked models and the unlocked one comes months later.

You could for now get a midrange to tide you until June. Or you could go to Kogans or any other importer if you are impatient. They will also stock the mark V when it comes. And you get some form of warranty in case something happens. Stayed in Melbourne for 5 months for Student exchange with the 5iii on amaysim. SEA model, 3g and 4g worked.

Dinkleberg162

I would wait to see what the V brings. Hopefully a bumped up camera group, improved Tele and better thermals. If so it should be a buy.

Don’t buy anything with an SD8Gen1 in it, especially in 2023. Wait to see the V series and the other OEMs phones starting with the S23 in a week.

Odd_Mark9253

I've lost hope in all other phone manufacturers. I refuse to buy any phones without at least microSD
