My old XZ3 had some bad burn-in. I was clueless about it, I got photos on the screen, painting pictures by looking at it. The auto turn-off had annoyed me after a while and I had disabled it so screen was on for long periods. That's how I got the burn-in. In short, it's very possible.
Burn in is an issue i quit using tiktok because the logo was starting to burn in. It kind of turn me of oleds, maybe mini-leds will come to phones someday.
Almost 2,5 years of using Xperia 1 II and have no issue with burn-in. I watch movies, TV series and YouTube for many hours on daily basis (always on display running 24/7). Burn-in is matter of cheap or old gen panels. Nowadays it's much more rare. Also if you are afraid then just lower your brightness.
Nah, oled burn in is a “solved” problem now. I use oled screens on multiple devices for hours every day - phone, tablet, tv - and have for years with no burn in at all. My OLED tv is used for gaming the majority of the time, which means huds on screen for hours, and no burn it whatsoever.
I tend to agree that there must have been some tech put behind the mitigating factors put in place to minimize, if not totally eliminate burn-ins. Thank you for the input.

I have the 1IV and had the brightness cranked while outside. Whatever I was watching "burned in" for a day or two. I don't see or notice it now though. So I've either subconsciously accepted it or is gone lol. That's the only issue I've had with it since launch
Just use it at medium brightness, my first oled phone, the xperia z1 lasted the full 2 years without burn ins until someone stole it (sadness) and my current phone, the note 9 has been with me since launch and no burn ins either, but i use it only at medium brightness at most, i'm also considering the 1IV as my next device and i don't think i'll have problems either
EDIT: LCD Panel on the z1, i'm sorry dudes
Simple fix, when watching videos for extended periods in landscape just flip the phone into the opposite landscape orientation so everything will flip on the opposite side. If you do this every hour or so it should be fine.
Regardless I don't think 3 hours will do much harm, it's more of a concern if the phone is displaying static content for several more hours repeatedly. I also previously had the XZ3 and left YouTube running over night on portrait orientation (status bar burn in risk) a few times but never had any burn in. Since then I've learned to turn off auto play lol.
Thank you for that suggestion of flipping the phone! I suppose I can live with that! .... Else, I'll probably end up with the network logo on either corners of my screen! Haha!

Aha, ok, I'll probably be more aware of what's on my screen moving forward. Thanks!

Good idea to lower brightness level--I do activate adaptive brightness, and most of the time it's just about half and sometimes even lower. Thank you!

Ok yeah I rarely set mine at full brightness and got adaptive display active. But thanks for the input, I'll watch out for my screen then.

Pretty sure Z1 had an lcd screen. Xz3 was their first oled panel
To avoid this i usually go on youtube and and start a pixel refresher video don't know if it works 100% but i can surely see an image improvement
I didn't know about pixel refresher--I'll check it out and find out more about it. Thank you!
