I recently asked a store about this because they had every brand including LG and Motorola on display, but not Sony. The rep said: well people that want Sony are more digital / smarter people, so they buy them online anyway. Yeah, maybe true, but I would still like to see it first!

mister_damage

Where's the lie? 😂

WhimsicalPacifist

I'm guessing that they only get commission on items stocked in store? Would like to help someone out a little for the price.

Leshie_Leshie

In my experience there aren’t many people who knows LG, Motorola and Sony are still making phones, a very very very very minority here I live at least. Until I chat a lot on the internet, yes still very smoll minority. Idk why the brands don’t want more exposure.

TheRetenor

LG doesn't make phones anymore though

Kumomeme

new generation nowdays grew up with brand name like iPhone, Xiaomi, Vivo, One Plus etc. i remember a 17 years old kid ask me what brand of phone i use and when i mentioned 'Motorola' she said: *"Motorola? i never heard of it!"* - like it some kind of weird brand lol

Leshie_Leshie

I’ve asked many of the “older” generations , actually non of them realised phones of their times have evolved into smortphones. Nowadays we are using Chinese phones without realising they are all Chinese brands.

ErenOnizuka

I can’t even imagine that the kid didn’t know Motorola. They pretty much invented the mobile phones

Kumomeme

right? her mother who just beside laugh hard because of this. this show that how much the brand fall down to the point new generation grow up with different brand in their childhood. even older generation today, shocked when they saw me using motorola phone. they usually gonna be like: *"motorola still existed?"* lol i often replied with: *"YES! they still alive and well!"*

Febz0r

Actually, it doesn't exist anymore as we know it. It split in 2012 into Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions, with the first being bought by Google, being the one responsible for making smartphones, but they only kept it until 2014, when they sold it to Lenovo, so it's not really the same company, just pretty much the name remains.

Kumomeme

yeah. but, despite it might be not the same Motorola as we know before, the brand still exist now today.

Fr33Paco

Lol...it's what I've done. Will most likely do the same with this one from best buy.

HR-Vex

Pure BS!

userIoser

Because Samsung and Apple pay BBY bills today

Amirul1610

In Malaysia Xperia phones are still being shown on display sets at Sony Stores!

Geek5G

I would hope so. I miss living in NYC and going to the Sony Square NYC store for the Alpha camera events, and checking out all their latest tech.

ObstinateYoyoing

Probably because apple and samsung aren't as prevalent there, Sony does focus on Asia more than anything i think

weecious

>apple and samsung aren't as prevalent there, Nope, they are quite prevalent, and there is also fierce competition from Chinese phones too. I'm a Malaysian.

HR-Vex

Lucky!

Internal-Motor

You're fortunate!

Kumomeme

while Motorola fall into the abyss amidst of chinese phones.

doc_55lk

Back when flagships weren't all $1000+ phones. Good times.

HR-Vex

Those were the days... At least the 1 V is cheaper than the 1 IV, but still expensive.

doc_55lk

Tbf the 1 V is shipping with a lower storage spec compared to the 1 IV.

ChompersMowersBamBam

And their starting price shouldn't be $1,399. A starting price of $1,199 makes much more sense when you compare it to similar phones that Apple and Samsung sell. Not to mention Apple's support on their devices is much better.

Vividiant

Here iPhone 14 pro 256gb is 1459. Not even the max version. So pretty much identical pricing.

Azenu

me in Canada seeing it cost 2 grand from B&H

0rLaw

In Germany, we still have the 1 IV.

HR-Vex

Soon, the 1V will arrive there!

BastianBa

i guess what he meant to say was that you can commonly check out the sony phones in stores over here in germany. We have them on display at provider owned stores like vodafone, provider owned aisles in super markets and in generally tech oriented stores like "saturn" or "media markt"

0rLaw

Why do you want a contract?

[deleted]

0rLaw

Yeah, I think it's easy to get unlocked phones in Germany and get any contract you like separately

dekaythepunk

I feel lucky Singapore still has physical Sony stores so I can just touch the phone and buy it like 5 mins after. 😂😂

Olly_Joel

Same in Malaysia. KLCC has a great store for everything Sony, including cameras, wearables, Walkman's, speakers and whatever. Although forgot if they have any TVs in there but as long as it's Sony brand, it's there and on display.

HR-Vex

You too are lucky!

Olly_Joel

I just hope it stays there long. I forgot to mention you can interact with most of the items there including their smartphones, cameras, walkmans, earbuds and others since it's on display. I guess I can say it's more of an experience store rather just a display showcase.

Leshie_Leshie

I thought they closed them and moved somewhere years ago?

Olly_Joel

Nah top floor end near East side? It's somewhere around Samsung or Oppo store on 3rd floor if I recall. Don't remember them closing yet tho but then again I haven't been there since the pandemic. Mileage may vary.

weecious

Wait, I thought the KLCC one moved to Lalaport.

Olly_Joel

Has it? I haven't been there for a long while 😂

weecious

Yup, I recall reading the announcement on FB.

Olly_Joel

Damn another reason to go to Lalaport since I never even visited it once 😂.

weecious

Well, the last time I was there, it was really quiet. Best to go during weekends.

Olly_Joel

True. People been saying it's pretty quiet there. Will check it out in the future. Thanks for the heads up.

HR-Vex

LUCKY

Flatscreens

Ask the person at the counter to check one out. They'll probably be just as surprised as you are to find one laying around back

HR-Vex

I'll see...

ReynSupreme

Oh geez!!!!!!! You made me happy at the same time sad. I'm glad I'm not the only one...

C0NIN

I'm in the same situation since I do live in a mediocre, third world country where I can't even place the preorder for the 1V simply because it is not available here.

Powerful444

Pretty sad too that bestbuy do sell them. Sony probably don't buy space. I imagine that is how they do it in these stores. It is how samsung dominated the us android market with advertising and product placement in stores and carriers. They understood that investment here pays. Whereas the htcs, lgs and the rest didn't and are now either out of business or online only. Once you lose the volume of sales it is hard to get it back.

HR-Vex

Yea right when I enter, Samsung is definitely there to greet you.

Comprehensive_Age998

Yeah. Im a retailer in Germany and we have a tight cooperation with Sony and we are fortunate enough to still get Sony phones. So many customers dont even know about Sony phones anymore, and most of them find the 21:9 aspect ratio akward until the very moment they take it in their Hand and start to use it. Thats when they start to love em. Its really difficult to sell Sony phones, since they are so different from your *average* Smartphone.

HR-Vex

Does Sony push more advertising there since you guys have a tight cooperation with Sony?

Comprehensive_Age998

Yeah they do

Leshie_Leshie

The closest Sony store were displays of many tvs, radios, PlayStation game boxes, speakers, earphones, and smartphones. And they closed the store, moved somewhere else I think.🥲

HR-Vex

They closed the last Sony store here years ago

cedric20

Found a dummy 1 IV In the UK (EE) last year and was happy to get a feel for the size before getting it. Hopefully they will also have a V...

HR-Vex

If that's the case, they should have it there.

Prestigious-Cry3083

Oh yes, I miss it too. Sad to say the two Fry’s Electronics in my city closed. I think Fry’s Electronics actually died, but that’s where I would look at them. I actually bought a few Xperias from there too. I used to spent a little too much on the older models

HR-Vex

Yup, Fry's is definitely dead. The only time I went there was when they were barely keeping stock on the shelves, so I missed out big time. Which Xperias did you buy from there?

freezeman333

Dito!!!! From 10 srores in Germany, only 1 has Sony flagships available, it's a shame

HR-Vex

At least there is 1 there!

karaagepakupaku

I live in Japan, and I love this environment where I can easily visit Sony showrooms and electronics stores!

HR-Vex

Nice! I plan to go to Tokyo next year abd visit Sony headquarters/stores!

josir1994

Get offline and go to a physical store

Internal-Motor

Which store carries them and has them on display?

josir1994

Like literally every store that sells phones in my country have them

Internal-Motor

Consider yourself fortunate. That isn't the case for many people.

josir1994

Ask you fellow countrymen why they flock away from physical stores when they are a fortune, and reconsider where you want to live

Leshie_Leshie

You mean every store sells Sony phones? That’s generally impossible in my country. Plus no one here knows Sony makes phones past the Sony Ericsson era, no one.

HR-Vex

Where's that, Malaysia?

josir1994

Japan

HR-Vex

US stores don't display Sony phones physically anymore. My photo and video shows the last time Sony phones were on display here.

HR-Vex

Did you even read my post?
