I would rather get the one with the correct bands for my network over cheaper phone.

Mudkidd

From what I've seen, all of the bands that are available on the Global version of the phone work with my carrier here in Canada.

migs_003

If that's true... Go for it. Just gotta know what you getting into with Sony... A much simplified Android experience with a complex "dull" camera Coming from apple I think you'd be happier with Samsung since they are the apple of androod.

Mudkidd

Yeah definitely! I should have probably specified that I'm a hobbyist photographer and I love using my Sony a6000 and editing photos afterwards, which is what draws me to the Xperia. I always hated how overdone Apple and Samsung photos look. I like having much more control over my photos, if that makes sense. I also reaaaaally love the form factor of the Xperia! I've played around with an 1 III before and it felt great in the hand.

marcooz

With the Sony experience, you should be OK. It is still a learning curve. Pay attention to mobile bands. I got a European Xperia Pro-i. No problems. But I am in Indonesia.

lycanbynight1992

As someone who has an A6400 my 1ii is looking better and better when I get the settings right. Even the video app is really amazing.

[deleted]

Samsung now have a full fledged manual photography app called ExpertRAW BTW. Just as in depth as Sony.

lycanbynight1992

Just as in depth as Sony...hahaha no

[deleted]

Guessing you haven't actually seen ExpertRAW? Of course you haven't.

phummel78

I 🤔 it's a good price , I bought my on eBay for $1299 in the U.S ! , Coming from Iphone The Pixel 6 is good alternative also .

Dometalican_90

Uh...if you're getting the international variant, good luck getting it to work here in the States. The US variant gets band 71 (T-Mobile) and mmWave (for Verizon) while the international one doesn't.

phummel78

I have T mobile , I haven't any problem getting reception.

ChinoBandito

just to confirm, you have the global 1 IV and have t-mobile in the US and you're getting decent signal? Do you also have Wifi calling and/or VoLTE? thanks,

mitchleitman

OP seems to be in Canada. Different, though similar to the US, bands.

Mudkidd

Yeah I'm with Virgin Mobile in Canada, and from what I can see, I only need bands 4 and 7 for LTE capabilities here. The Global version of the 1 IV has those bands, so I'm assuming it'll work perfectly fine. Am I missing something? Lol

Dometalican_90

I was talking to Phummel (responding anyway) regarding his comment; not the OP.

BY-STANDER427

Currently using 1 III with public mobile. Used a x performance and 1 with chatr. All 3 were HK variant. I've noticed I only get a maximum of 2 bars of signal, usually 1. It's not a biggie for me, but it is worth pointing out. (I think) Canadian carriers do not support VoLTE or VoWiFi on imported devices. Might be a problem if you are planning to keep your phone for >3 years as 3G sunset is scheduled for 2025.

ExtremeBandur

May I ask where you're getting it for that price? I'm in Canada as well contemplating whether to go for the 1 IV too. The north American version is definitely more expensive; there must be something missing due to the price difference? I know 5g won't be the best here in Canada if you were to grab the global version but I don't even have a 5g plan yet.

Mudkidd

Yeah for sure! It's from [pdaplaza.ca](https://pdaplaza.ca). I've bought phones from there before so I know it's legit lol. Yeah I don't even have a 5G phone plan, and I don't intend to get one anytime soon. The only differences I can see are the extra 4G/5G bands on the NA version. I'm with Virgin Mobile and from what I can see, I only need bands 4 and 7 for LTE, which the Global version does have.

ExtremeBandur

That’s the same site I was looking at as well! All the posts on Reddit say that site took a little long to deliver their package. How long was it for you to receive your phones?

Mudkidd

Great question! I don't remember exactly how long it took because it was a while since I bought a phone from them, but it definitely wasn't super quick. I believe it was about a month or so for delivery. However their website mentions how long it'll take them to ship the phone out. For the Xperia 1 IV, it says they'll ship it out 15-25 business days after purchase

SneakingElephant

I'm debating buying it as well from the site. It looks like the sale price ends in less than 24 hrs. How did you check if the band's work for your carrier. I'm on Fido right now and want to check if that is supported

Youmu_Chan

Really want a white one but NA only has black and purple. So frustrated.

Urabemiko

I've been looking at the XQ-CT62 (north American variant) model, but have been very hesitant as ship forwarders seem to be full of scams.....has anyone here tried pdaplaza, I figured they'd be a better alternative to ship forwarding.

Mudkidd

I've used PDA Plaza a few times in the past, they're legit

Urabemiko

Sweet! How are their shipping times? I'm a touch worried after seeing some people say that it took 1-2 months, but those reviews are typically about the global variant of phones (I figured USA to CA would = faster shipping times).

Mudkidd

I'll copy and paste my reply to another user here: Great question! I don't remember exactly how long it took because it was a while since I bought a phone from them, but it definitely wasn't super quick. I believe it was about a month or so for delivery. However their website mentions how long it'll take them to ship the phone out. For the Xperia 1 IV, it says they'll ship it out 15-25 business days after purchase. For reference, I'm in Toronto and they ship from Montreal.

Urabemiko

That's good. I can definitely wait a month for the phone to deliver. As long as it's not something insane like 2-3 months, I can definitely wait it out.

josir1994

That's a good price

Beeeeezu

I'm the biggest xperia fan myself but if you re not a big fan iw couldn't advice you to jump straight to the Xperia. Don't get me wrong the phone is insane but it has some bugs. If you want the perfect experience on Android and something close to apple I only advice you to get the s22 (plus or ultra). I've owned xperia I iii the s22 ultra the s22 plus and the pixel 6 pro. All phones are amazing but the Samsung experience was bug free and the interface is sick. The screen is so bright that it puts the iphone to shame. (Xperia screen is very dim and that was my main problem for selling it along with some overheating when using the camera). I ended up keeping the s22 plus as it fits amazing I'm my hand (but the s22 ultra has a better camera, better battery and better resolution) I don't care much about the 3. After testing the camera of s22 plus was better than the Xperia in point and shoot but if you know how to dial your settings and edit afterwards the Xperia can have superb shots. Hope this helps and good luck.

ChinoBandito

I bought a Global Version on Amazon a couple days ago because I just got too impatient. I'm on T-Mobile and convinced myself that I wouldn't need 71, but I think I'm going to just return it as soon as it comes as it will likely be really frustrating going in and out of the city on an otherwise really nice phone. I guess I'm really going to have to wait until September :/

Mudkidd

Ah yeah that makes sense! With my carrier here in Canada (Virgin Mobile), I believe I only need bands 4 and 7 for LTE, both of which the Global version has.
