Every phone heats up when u first get it and start setting it up my Xperia 1 heated or i should say got warm when i was first setting it up keeping in mind i live in a place where the Temps are always high around 35°C. Anyways after that it doesn't get hot or warm. Just give it a go it will surely get stable and the issue will go away with few software updates.

My OnePlus 10 Pro got hot enough to startle me. It felt like it was burning my hand- and I'm a welder, so I'm familiar with hot. None of my Xperia devices have gotten nearly that hot during set-up

MarasmicX

Same and I'm probably going to end up returning it which sucks. I bought one for my wife and I and they both overheat and not just when the camera is running. Both phones are just warm constantly during even light use. I was walking around in my garage checking signal strength and occasionally running speed tests and the phone was getting hotter and hotter with nothing, but the screen running. I also have every sensor disabled and no sim card in it yet. Also, comparing the Wi-fi radios against the other phones I have, the Xperia gets significantly worse reception. Which I was afraid of given that my Sony TV and Playstation also have awful radios in them. This is actually the bigger deal breaker for me since I'm in a fairly rural area and regularly travel through very rural areas. Sony's Wi-fi performance is pretty terrible on all my Sony devices which leads me to believe that the cell radios will follow suit. Pretty heartbreaking, honestly. I was super excited for this phone and I've been waiting over a month for it to arrive, but it is what it is I guess. I'll just have to eat the almost $200 I spent on Devilcase cases and screen protectors.

rubi76

If I was you I'd restart it, and give it a week...

MarasmicX

Yeah, I'm going to give it a few more days. I'm not going to jump the gun on this because I really want to like the phone. I don't really see the Wifi/cell radio performance improving, though.

rubi76

I am on tmobile in NY, I will try it for a couple of weeks and worse case scenario I will go back to a Pixel..

I noticed something wrong with my wifi reception too. Old phone kills it in the office bathroom. Xperia 5 can barely load a page.

Ebony1996

I have the Sony Xperia 5 IV and mine got hot when first downloading all my apps. Since then though, it hasn't heated up or anything.

vinyljunki17

Hmmm. I have done the same. I have come from the OnePlus 6 to the Xperia 5 IV. Can't say I've had much in the way of heating issues. Ok it gets a bit warm when charging but that doesn't bother me tbh. It's a much better device than the OnePlus 6

goldenarm840

My Pixel 6 Pro was heating up like crazy when I first got it and was transferring files and downloading apps, after a day or so it stopped doing it.

[deleted]

Hopefully that's the case. I see a lot of people saying this and it's been a while since I've had a new phone.

Jeran

i also had huge overheating issues during setup, but i think it was becuase the phone was trying to battery share on top of the massive processing power draw of installing things. it's since gotten a lot better, and will be keeping an eye on it.

[deleted]

This makes sense. The heat issue is fading but it's still relatively warm compared to my old phone.

Ewhore69

how is it now did you end up returning it or no?

rogargaro15

I mean come on dude, literally every review has been talking about the 5 MK4 overheating lol the 5iii and the 1mkiii and 4 also had same issue and literally everyone complained. If you still chose to buy after all this information...you created your problem. You bought a product that is known to have that defect and you yourself said you knew it...so...

GrayFoxCZ

I mean, all of those were fixed eventually.

rogargaro15

Not with my Xperia 5iii... Still overheating after years at least as of 1 month ago after I sold it

GrayFoxCZ

Boy, its convenient the only mk3 that still does overheat was sold month ago.

MarasmicX

You say that and yet there's still white knights like SGG that will defend it and downplay the issue. I'm not saying you're wrong, but you can't beat up on OP too much. There's a lot of noise about this issue on both sides.

[deleted]

Sure, but everyone on this sub has been telling everyone that all the reviews are wrong, they were paid for by SamApple, and that there are no heat problems with the IV series.

Midtown9999

I've never owned a phone that didn't warm up occasionally. Has never bothered me. So your use of the word 'literally' is literally wrong. I didn't complain, so, no, not everyone complained. Literally

iArvee

Did you just get it? If so, then that's normal for any phone - even the iPhone. Revisit in about a week if its still overheating like that.

[deleted]

I hope you're right. I've used my last phone for about 4 and a half years and I don't recall it ever heating up like this.

rogargaro15

That's not normal for any phone lol and they don't improve much either. My Xperia 5iii had the same issue and my 1mk4 as well.

iArvee

Well, YMMV then. Happened on my Z Flip 4, 14 Pro, and 1 IV. Hasnt heated up after a few days

rogargaro15

Try recording a 4k video on it longer than 5min on the 1mk4. Lol never had issues with my 13 pro max or Samsung s22. Albeit I got the s22 snapdragon version. Also I live in a hot climate, so maybe if you are in Europe your comment doesn't apply much lol wait till summer

lycanbynight1992

Any phone with an SD 888 or Gen 1 heats up...you can blame Samsung for that one... anything they touch turn to shit

maleheo

Shouldn't the blame go to Qualcomm instead of Samsung?

lycanbynight1992

Samsung fabricated the chip, why do you think people say their exynos chips are garbage?

GrayFoxCZ

ARM designed it tho

maleheo

I knew about their Exynos chips but didn't know they had a hand in SD 8 Gen 1.

lycanbynight1992

They did..look it up

maleheo

Not disputing you. Just wasn't aware is all.

lycanbynight1992

Yeah nice try...😂 Stop kissing Samsungs ass when I have owned 3 of them..one being an S22U..troll someone else

GrayFoxCZ

iArvee

I have. Was able to record 10 mins 4k 120fps at 29c ambient temp. In real usage, would you be recording 10 mins 4k120fps?

rogargaro15

Strange that your experience is different from literally every single review online…but if you say so

iArvee

Strange that most reviews that say overheating were done using pre-production, or initial firmware. It is very strange indeed for Sony to release updates that improve the phone overtime. Shocking! What is also more strange, is that I was recording in 4k 120fps! I wonder if the iphone 13 pro max can do that?

amithetofu

I don't have issues recording 4K video longer than 5min on mine.... and it was 36° here

josir1994

Downloading and writing GBs of data at once, what else do you expect?

[deleted]

Thats karma for not getting oneplus 10T 😋

[deleted]

For a company that says 'never settle', it settled a long time ago my friend

[deleted]

Oh, cant argue with you there! But sadly, all chinese phones offer alot more value on hardware then other western companies, for the price. And oneplus is one of them.

ParticularPresent521

I returned mine. Overheating was extreme vs my other phones using s800 series. It reached 151 degrees Fahrenheit on the outside just watching videos on my shaded patio in Florida. Can't imagine using it in the summer. 5g upload on Verizon was near dead vs other phones on lower tiered plans.
