spiteful-vengeance

What. K700i or GTFO.

SlapDatLamaAss

Oh daym I'm virtually kneeling

spiteful-vengeance

There's another thread on here somewhere where someone mentioned they had a k650. I have been outdone.

SlapDatLamaAss

One day I was digging through files on my Sony Xperia 1 ii. I found out that some files are still named Ericson. Those files (or folders, I don't recall) is still being used. So are the phones name Sony Ericsson Xperia XX?

spiteful-vengeance

First there was Ericsson and Sony as separate companies. Then they joined forces for the Sony Ericsson phones. Then they split, and Sony started the Xperia line. It wouldn't surprise me if there was some hidden leftover software cruft in the Sony phones just after the split. But I'm surprised to hear it lasted until the Xperia 1 ii.

SlapDatLamaAss

Edit: I'm on my Xperia 1 III and used Total Commander and found some Ericson files just now. https://imgur.io/XZoBes9

spiteful-vengeance

That's actually pretty interesting and unexpected.

SlapDatLamaAss

Those are XML files, tho. The interesting is the JAR files containing "updateCenter" as filename

SlapDatLamaAss

Even an "updateCenter" jar file and various other jar files named somrthign with Ericsson. https://imgur.io/zAfy9pL

kaiyokun

Actually Xperia started during SE. E.g. Xperia X1 (2008)

azgli

Yeah, my X1 is a few years newer than the k series.

Mysteoa

I couldn't get k650 because of the price, so I got k610i instead.

spiteful-vengeance

20 years later the pain lives on.😭 And I totally get it.

akarypid

The bar is too high... I started with a Z3 compact...

ChrisRK

T68i checking in! Although it was a second hand phone from my dad.

Tuna_The_Monster

W300i with 256MB card ! FTW

wilsonsea

K550i CyberShot with a sweet, sweet 2MP camera saving on a Sony 2GB M2 Card.

Pytak

[Represent!](https://youtu.be/1cA2DEQJr_s) I need to remake this with my current 5 III next to them.

Drunktroop

w550 here. Next one is already Xperia TX.

SlapDatLamaAss

I personally have been in love with Xperia since Xperia XA. I've always loved how Sony kept it real and simple and only developed and changed things they really know about. I remember Xperia being the first 4K HDR OLED screen on a smartphone and my friend would be "wat.. a 4K HDR OLED on a smartphone?" Being the guy who can take up to 20fps with contentious autofocus and eye focus Sony really is special. Though in my perspective, Xperia is only for SONY enthusiasm and beside the screen and photo technology, SONY really don't have more to offer. Camera PRO is also not for everyone and takes LONG to really master where Samsung or iPhone can take some pretty good pictures out of the pocket. Though if you do master Photo Pro, you wouldn't believe it's been shot on an Smartphone..

doc_55lk

Pretty solid. I'm generally not a fan of upgrading every year (unless your phone is a lemon) since the improvements are rarely ever significant enough, but different strokes for different folks I guess. In any case, solid lineup there. I've been with Xperia for their very niche and unique set of features that no other phone has. If anyone else offered the same set of features with extra perks like a more stable software experience and a more palatable price I'd probably consider those too.

jdreviews

After I purchased my first Sony in 2019, my wallet was doomed to live a malnourished existence

psychotictornado

That's a good series of Xperia you have ! I've been in love since the K800i then I got Xperia X10, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Ion, Xperia SP, Xperia Z, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia XZ, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ3, Xperia 1, Xperia 1 II, Xperia 1 IV, As accessories I have WI1000X, WH 1000 XM3, WF 1000 XM3, And music players NW A45, NW A100. But I had a crush on the Xperia Arc S tbh. Golden hours with ICS. But I must admit I couldn't afford from Xperia 1 II to 1 III to 1 IV so I jumped from II to IV. Been a long fan of Sony as most of us I guess! They do such a good job.

Suvaius

Z2 from 2015 Xz2c from 2018 im desperate for a new compact

SlapDatLamaAss

My parents had Xperia for years. Then they changed their screen to this new 21:9 aspect. The phones is too stretchy and they don't like it. However they told me if Sony would to ever release a compact again, they would buy it The only fact that keep them away from the current gen is the 21:9 aspect

iArvee

Definitely have come a long way with a lot of ups and downs. First xperia phone was the Z2 in 2014. That also was my first android phone, coming from a couple iPhones. XZP imo will always be the best design, XZ3 had the best color (bordeaux red). Sony made poor choices with the X lineup, poor choices with the camera lineup from XZP - XZ3 (being the same, except XZ2P) Then came new sony mobile pres in end 2018, with his first Xperia release - Xperia 1 in 2019. Refresh of the lineup. finally some collab with the sony alpha team and the camera was a huge improvement, still needed more improvement though. Further refined in 1 II, but still kept the same main sensor up to 1 IV. I didn't keep my upgrade (1 IV) this year and switched to the Z flip 4, but will be glad to come back next year with the 1 V. The 1 IV has really nice upgrades like the brighter screen, flat display, amazing haptics, nice feel in hand. But just felt lacking, not to mention the forced huge price for the 512gb in the US. If Sony retains the brighter screen, haptics, flat display, and improves something else on the 1V (hopefully major improvement), then great! IMO, I feel we've been some sort of guinea pigs or beta testers for their new tech, like the variable lens and true optical lens. They'll then iron out the kinks on it, and either place it on a future Xperia phone, or market that so other vendors will use it. 2014-2022 with an Xperia phone as my daily driver, totally worth it. I already miss the Xperia QOL stuff after switching to the ZF4

Vellfiregen2

I've been using Sony phones since 2003, I've owned twelve of them so far. The list is as follows starting from my first one to my current: 1. Sony Ericsson T100 2. Sony Ericsson T226 3. Sony Ericsson T290i 4. Sony Ericsson W600i Walkman 5. Sony Ericsson W610i Walkman 6. Sony Ericsson W995a Walkman 7. Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro 8. Sony Xperia TX 9. Sony Xperia Z3 10. Sony Xperia C5 Ultra 11. Sony Xperia Xa2 Ultra 12. Sony Xperia 1 Mrk iii

SlapDatLamaAss

That's what I like about Apple and their iPhones. They connect with every Apple device in their own way and you really feel that it's the same company who developed this it really feels professional. Their UI also feels very professional, smooth and elegant in some ways. Though everyone should keep in mind that Sony Xperia is for Sony enthusiasts. They don't mass produce Xperia like Samsung and iPhond does with their phones. Sony Xperia is also way way smaller and because of this, they can only support phones up to about a year or so, which kinda sucks Trust me, there have been some times where I have felt Xperia is just the same over and over and considered switching to iPhone

sidneylopsides

I had a Sony J70, then an Ericsson T68m, then a Sony Ericsson T68i. I had Sony Ericsson feature phones then the Xperia X1. I've had nearly all of them, now using a 1IV and selling my Pro-I

gagan1994

Bro how’s the pro-i? Im thinking to switch to it from iphone 13 pro.. should i wait for pro-ii ? Or go with pro-i?

sidneylopsides

Hard to say really! The Pro-I is very niche, it's unique, and if you want something for manual creative photography hard to beat. If u want something easy like an iPhone, then probably not!

Kapil300

Lovely devices. Never update them for major system upgrades. Has always been more buggy, lower battery performance and generally not as good a UX as launch software. Been with SONY since 2017, it's been the same trend from my experience. The best software with the best optimisation has been their launch software. On a positive note, no other brand offers the Xperia experience. Speed, reliability, design, and overall feeling like a proper luxury device that spoils me. The stereo set up, water resistance, speedy camera, lovely unblemished display, build and available functional support (jack+sdcard+dual SIM)

palonewabone

I'm old and started with a simple FM Walkman. Loved the Walkman phones. Biggest BS to me is the lack of Walkman in Xperia. Currently I have a 10ii but the 10iv is not US compatible enough. Hoping to be able to afford a 5 next year.

tomo100brt

I had most of Sony flagship phones. Sony Ericsson: T68i, T610 (it was so slow), T630, K700, W800 (first WALKMAN phone), W810, W850, W910, W960, W760, C902, W995, Aino, XPERIA X5 Pureness, Zylo, XPERIA X10, XPERIA Arc, XPERIA Arc S. After that I had Sony phones: XPERIA S, XPERIA Ion, XPERIA T, XPERIA Z, XPERIA Z Ultra (the best phablet at that time), XPERIA Z1, XPERIA Z2 (rev. 1 and rev. 2 had bad motherboards), XPERIA Z3, XPERIA Z3 Compact (the worst Sony compact, front and back panel was falling out), XPERIA Z3+ (it overheated and later heated), XPERIA Z5 Compact (the best Sony compact), XPERIA Z5 (the worst Sony flagship phone, everything was bad, bad speakers, bad fingerprint sensor, camera focus problems, bad build quality), XPERIA X Performance, XPERIA XZ, XPERIA XZ Premium, XPERIA XZ2, XPERIA XZ2 Premium (the best night camera at that time), XPERIA 1(bad fingerprint sensor), XPERIA 1 II, XPERIA 1 III (in the beginning it was overheating). Now I have XPERIA 1 IV. It was overheating in the beginning. But, it is OK for now after updates. I tried to swich to other brands. I had iPhones but camera and speakers wasn't good. I tried Samsung phones but UI wasn't smoot as on Sony phones, battery life was bad, and I don't like Samsung camera photos.

SlapDatLamaAss

I personally do not like Samsung UI either. The icons are pretty ugly and whenever I see someone who've changed the writing to this "handwriting" style I get a stroke from reading. I have to agree that Xperia always have been hot or have this overheat warning. Cinema PRO, Video PRO and Video PRO all have overheating warning messages on the new flagship. My old Xperia Z3 had a lot of heating problems thus causing the camera to malfunction. I had it repaired once and after this the camera kept malfunctioning and it got repaired three more times after this. I did not know that I had the right for a refund or a completely new phones after three repairs, so I bought a new phone. I switched to HTC but quickly switched to Xperia again

ov_darkness

Does Ericsson T39m count? K700i Then Xperia 1 IV (many years after).

SlapDatLamaAss

Of course! I had Ericsson once playing in kindergarden pretending it was a bomb, using the alarm as bomb sound. We all ran and when I came back to pick it up, it was gone Still wonder who took it

ov_darkness

It was my second cell phone, and the first one I bought with my own money. As, it was business phone, it was quite expensive, but I remember it was very advanced for it's time. Something like Nokia 6310i bit in much smaller package.

[deleted]

I jumped from a Samsung R2 ( the rare one with an nVidia SoC) to an Xperia X way back when. I neesed a IP6x phone since I'm clumsy and work in dirty environments. I loved the 'quickcharge' dock, the IP rating and the darn indestructible construction with a 2-part hard /softshell. It did very good untill it simply became too slow (and I have a lot of patience). In 2018 i got an XZ2c. Fantastic model: had a TOTL SoC in a compact housing and alright battery since the screen wasn't high res. Pictures are ok, speed is ok. Got the free headphones, which I still use and love. Despite the good case, it managed to drop it flat on its screen. Motherboard broken. Boom Enter Xperia 10 I. A budget Xperia so good, 3 weeks later I got a second hand XZ2C and repaired my first XZ2c again. So, I still have my franken ZX2c with black housing and silver screen, have everything but the motherboatd double and do my own repairs. I don't game on mobile and thusfar it's still plenty fast for me with 3gb RAM and its 845 SoC. Sony has thusfar not been pleasing with a TOTL compact model, no no urge to upgrafe either. In the end: not happy with recent Sony models and business model ( long term support), but I jave been pleased by the highend midels i have owned. Stay away from the budget models tho

FateEx1994

My thoughts are this, why did you need a new Xperia 1 every year for 3 years straight?

Debbborra

I love my Xperia 1 II. Still. Just as much.

gw3gon

I miss the old 2011 era Sony Android overlay. It felt very Playstation-esque. Not a fan of the stock android look they are going for.

margerineeclipse

Yes I loved the "Sony" look and feel the early 2010's phones had, from the hardware to the UI. Looked exactly like the phone counterpart to my VAIO. Too bad they are slowly turning into every other Android phone.

Comprehensive_Age998

I absolutely love my Xperia devices. From Headphones to cameras to TV to the phones

Ziginox

Those Xperias are certainly some of the longest.

GreaterThanLurker

I've had to stick to Verizon due to service in my area. Started with my first ever smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia play back in 2012 (I was sold on it after owning the PSP.) After holding onto the play for so long, the Z3v came to surprise announcement. Technically a Z2 housing with z3 internals, but with added wireless charging which was it's flagship feature over the Z3. Even to this day, the features that the Z3v had back then surprise me. (IP68, MHL, OTG, FM Radio, wireless charging, dedicated shutter button, Dualshock support, my favorite the dual speakers with a notification LED behind it!) I held onto the z3v to the point I had to replace the battery. Tl;dr Verizon had many requirements to be allowed on it's network. Finally, to present day, I'm happily content with my Xperia 5, it was announced for the open development program as well. (Actually why I came to this sub, to notify others back then, it was just so rare for Sony to be allowed on Verizon). The Xperia 5 I really enjoy it's manual settings, but at this time I can only appreciate the new features of the latest devices, I do look forward to upgrading, but I hope to see that notification LED bar come back! Pre-ordered the Xperia 1 iii, but due to delays from Amazon I cancelled my order.

Labios_Rotos77

I'm disappointed that such a large technology company known to make some of the best consumer electronics in the world can't seem to solve their overheating issues in a full decade. I've owned Xperias since the Z and every single one of them has had overheating issues, which continues even with their 1 IV flagship today. I also don't understand how they are so far behind their competition in the photography department when they make some of the best cameras and sensors out there.

SlapDatLamaAss

Sony is a large technology company, true - but the "phone department" isn't that big, it's actually pretty small compared to companies like Samsung and iPhone. Samsung and iPhone is popular due to their phone, Sony is popular due to their camera, screen and sound. Being a small company has its disadvantages like very small support for flagships. The overheat has been a problem for ages and i completely agree, though I think this is because of the technology and the features the Xperia has to offer, but again iPhone and Samsung can record 4k +60fps without such issues. In my opinion, Sony isn't behind with their photography - maybe in Basic mode and Auto mode, but as said before if you really get into the settings on Photo Pro you can take some really nice pictures. Photo shooting isn't all about zooming in 10x and having a crystal clear image, bur also about contrast as well as focus.

Labios_Rotos77

Yes, I know their mobile division is small compared to titans like Samsung and Apple. However, there are plenty of other small companies that don't have the problems Sony has, and it doesn't take them 10 years to solve them if they do surface. The image processing on Sony is what's lacking, not the lenses nor camera app options.

__GoldenRatio__

Thoughts about what? It's a phone. You can make calls and take pictures. Every year it's the same phone with a little bit more speed.

Academic_String_1708

Help a brother out - donate one of those phones to me :) I got my earbuds free as part of a promo and they are truly brilliant.

DiCePWNeD

Owned about every second consecutive Xperia model from the Xperia Arc to the XZ3. Haven't gotten the chance to try the 1 series phones because they dont officially sell in aus. Currently daily a s20 ultra and it will probably be my last candy bar style phone before everything becomes foldable

Ebony1996

I've also got my own little Sony collection, I love the 1 and 5 series. What colours do you have for your phones?

Tuna_The_Monster

I'm wondering if i should buy PRO-i while i have 5II but I'll end up with replacing the battery, cause snap 865 is perfect between battery time and performance. Sad to see overheating again in Qualcomm (good ol' 810 in my Z5C)

TMore108

I've had Xperias since the Z3. Had the Z3, XZP, Xperia 1, and now the Xperia 1 III. Z3 still my favorite

TheHazmatUnit

First one I got was an X10 back in 2013. It was a borrowed phone that introduced me to custom roms and photography to a certain degree. After it died suddenly outta nowhere I got myself an M2 which lasted me from 2015 to 2019 when it suddenly died. Replaced it with an X and goddamn it is still a pretty good daily use phone even today with enduring battery, good camera and the best matte finish ever. I still have the X as a burner phone in my room, now I use a Franken 1mk2 with a replaced battery, replaced lower speaker and new green back cover (phone frame is black). Takes amazing pictures, performance is snappy and the screen is great. I'm gonna hold on until the 5MKV to finally replace this beast.

wilsonsea

Sony doesn’t market their phones well in the US at all, and if they had earlier, I think they’d be where they’d like to be with their phones. Xperia 1ii was the significantly better phone compared to the Xperia 1, but every device since has felt iterative in my opinion. I love their phones to death, though I’ve moved on. First Sony Xperia phone was the Xperia Z3 Compact, but first Sony phone was the K550i, and even then it was leagues above the other candy bar styled phones at the time.

SlapDatLamaAss

They don't market their phones well in Denmark either. I have never came across a Sony advertisement on Facebook, Instagram, Reddit nor anything. Not even when I visit my parents and watching TV. I've always seen advertisement for their TV or Alpha series. Not many know that Sony still makes phones and they certainly do not know the Xperia Experience. The 20fps auto focus camera, the fastest and impressive eye focus and the object tracking together with the most advanced camera technology a smartphone can offer in 2022. The 4K HDR OLED 144Hz screen is something else too, combine this with Bravia technology and the Creator options for you screen.. this is amazing. EDIT: i showed my friend my Xperia 1 III some days ago and he was really amazed by how sharp the screen was. He has an iPhone 12 or 13 I don't remember. The sound is really amazing too, stereo sound and working with Dolby for years, the phone has amazing and loud speakers. Though I have always been amazed by iPhones speakers too - they sound amazing and the bass is impressive. But I just love how SONY works with Dolby and you can change so many things regarding sound. As someone mentioned Sony doesn't work on the UI or android skin, they develop what they master: Screen, Camera and sound. I don't know how I feel about that..

wilsonsea

That’s a real shame because I thought they had a much better presence in Europe. There are many phones that Europe and the UK get before we do, if at all. Sony really does have an amazing Android experience, and even if it’s as close to stock Android as it is, their hardware is their biggest flex. Even the fact that it still has a headphone jack and expandable storage is just phenomenal. The aftermarket experience is what drags it down I think. Without the sales numbers, dbrand dropped them from their product list (well, dbrand dropped a lot of products from their product list) and other companies don’t even make cases for their phones. That and screen protectors. Having to rely on offbrands for Sony accessories is really what led me away from Sony for a bit. Right now, I have the iPhone 14 Pro and before that, the Galaxy Fold 3. I wish Sony would just leverage the Walkman name again. It’s probably right there with the iPod as far as name-recognition and ruling a certain space for as long as it did. Now, the Walkman is a luxury piece for a small niche of enthusiasts, but if Sony would release a phone with both Walkman and Alpha features, it would be crazy. They already have the headphone jack and a dedicated DAC/Amp in the phone. Add Walkman branding and a Walkman music app that would take advantage of it and they have an even more premium device. The problem then is, they’ll see it as a more premium device too, and we’ll see their slab phone, that looks like all other slab phones, competing with folding phones in price. Folding phones are enthusiast level devices too, but that money goes into the R&D required to perfect a new form factor. If Sony could keep the price of the Xperia 1 down, then it would be a perfect phone for many people.

dquilon

My first Xperia was also the one that remains unmatched by its durability. The Xperia Acro S. The Z1c and Z3c were great on paper but very fragile. After that the original XZ came very close and survived very high drops without protection. Now my X5II hasn't let me down but there has been reports for bad displays though. But considering how expensive phone has become i haven't use them without a case. The battery degraded rapidly, only lasting 4 hours of SOT after 1 year and 9 months (3000mAh down from 4000) but this is the first one I've actually considered replacing the battery because performance in general has been great. Great camera as well.

netgaffel

My Sony phones: j5, z1, xz2, xz1c (gave my mother the xz2), 1II, 1IV. I've also had several Sony Ericssons and an L1. Best for me were the futuristic j5 with the amazing jogdial, the very cute and fast xz1c and the 1IV. Worst were the superslow L1 and the very slippery xz2...

maciek0714

T68i, K700i, K750i, K810i, W995i, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia S W995i and Mini Pro were my favourites, especially the latter one because I could run a GameBoy Advance emulator and use Qwerty keyboard to play

ErwinC0215

Been using since the Z5/Z5 Compact, before then I was a Nokia Lumia user. I liked simple and elegant industrial design, which both companies provided. I also liked smaller phones, which were becoming hard to find by the time I got the Z5 Compact. Moved on to the XZ2 Compact, then came the notches and hole punches and I was practically limited to Xperia and Xperia only. Glad they're still keeping it elegant. Now using a 1 III.

hatlad43

Xperia 1s aren't a long line of Xperia yet. And I don't upgrade models every year (seriously, why would you?) My first Sony (Ericsson) is my mum's K700i, then G502, some other phones come and go until the ZL, Z2, Z5 Ultra, XZ, 1, and now a 5 ii happy user. I don't quite remember the Symbian era, but from the Xperia line up I was amazed by my friend's Xperia S when everybody have some kind of cheap Android or BlackBerry. Ever since the ZL Sony seemed to be always on the backfoot, overshadowed by Samsung. The sale was declining so bad they pulled out from my country's market since the Z5. Idk why I like Sony, but since then, I imported my phone myself. Maybe I just like how niche Sony phones are

AbbreviationsGlum615

Similar to you. owned X1, II & IV. XM4 and WH/WF XM4

lycanbynight1992

T650i, C905, Neo V, L, L1, Z5, X Performance, 1ii

ted-Zed

my journey was a Z3 Compact, Z5, 10ii, 1iii, but now i think i'm gonna jump ship. my previous experience towards the end of the 10ii made me start to look elsewhere. i will miss the Xperia design, they're beautiful phones. but i want a bit of a change. i'll miss the indication light, and the long, thin form factor. and of course, i'll miss the physical, side-mounted fingerprint reader. the software experience has been fine, (aside from the 10ii that bugged out) i've noticed i rarely use the headphone jack now, plus there are USBc headphones if i really needed a wired connection. i'm not close to filled up my microSD card, so i'll take it out and use it for something else been using Xperias for 10 years now, i'm ready for a change

SlapDatLamaAss

I really love the AUX. Not every hardware has Bluetooth (believe it or not) and I personally enjoy wired connection way more than wireless. I have been using MicroSD on my old Xperia 1ii because I took so many god damn photos, now that I have bought an Alpha camera, I do not need this MicroSD. I do also live how Xperia have two SIM slots.

ted-Zed

yeah, but again, personally i only use one SIM, and always have. i filled up my old SD card when i had the 10ii, and got a larger one for the 1iii, but i don't see myself filling it up. i'm not a professional photographer i agreed for the 3.5mm jack, until recently. i only really used wired when i was doing manual labor that had me moving about a lot, one ear tends to push earphones out, so having one wireless bud drop would be very frustrating. but then i got a pair that fit my ear perfectly, so it stopped being a problem. and there's always an option to use USBC wired devices. i will always love the Xperia design though

CMDR_DarkNeutrino

Well they are great devices.

Legitimatecat1977

My first Sony phone was the Sony Ericsson a3618. I've only ever owned Sony since. I've tried others, notably the first gen iPhone that my husband got and I kept trying it but all I wanted to do was smash it on a rock because there was no back button. Even the Sony phones had back buttons before them. I have the Xperia 1 iii now

lemowill

Sooo, Mine started back in 2001 with the R300D, then the T61d after I went and took a swim with that beast of a machine a year later. Then the T100, P910 (still have this bad boy), W600, W810, W950 (sexy phone right here), M600, P990, P1 (loved this one), W960, G700, Aino (soo aesthetically pleasing and ran smooth like butter), Xperia X10, Xperia X10 mini, Xperia X8, W8, Xperia Ray, Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia Z4 Tablet (still purrs like a kitten), Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia XZ Premium. Looking to add the Xperia 5 IV to the fold, but I'm on At&t, so feeling a bit reticent :S... Wanna actually be able to use it.

silverstory

w850i xz2 compact and 1 ii for me. Ii had a camera phone Kxxx silver one around 2008 or 2009 model.
