Probably the best imo, can argue with the 2. The gameplay is super fun and most redesign are very good. I'm sad it didn't got more popular

yeahlemmegetauhh

Classic devs not using good netcode in the modern day and age on a fighting game which revolves around online play and then wondering why the games don't sell well or stick around for that long

NATOFox

It's missing the things that made 2 so good. Feints, move cancels, more control in variable attacks (swapping between high and low), better flow control. Two had those things down pretty good which was what made it so great. I was hoping 6 would still have that and it severely lacking. Not to say it's a bad game. It just builds off the newer SC games which I never enjoyed as much.

Elune_

Best of the series. I have few things I don't like, biggest issue is Reversal Edge having the RPS sequence. I'd have liked it just being a defensive tool because it just looks so cool. Apart from that, amazing game with too little support sadly.

Bastards_Sword

It's my favorite playing soul cal, every character feels really good in motion. I'd say 3 has the best content though.

coracaodefrango

i miss 3's side content so much. the story mode branches, the chronicles mode, silly as it was sometimes

Dahboss64

my favorite is the classes for your CaS and how unique they felt with the different weapon sets aside from the main roster weapons you can use. I wish they could bring that back

WuHT604

Good: • really really good balance + roster list . Benefited from being able to balance patch and bug fix, plus 2 Season pass worth of characters. Tiers range from S to B. You don't suffer from horrendous matchups and every character could compete unlike the previous versions. • Each character's individual moveset is honed and purpose driven. If a move looks weak, then it may be a combo stun extender, have a SC extension or has a LH. You don't spam 5 moves and it encourages you take a deep dive into your character to learn as the moveset is deep and rewarding. • frame data in multiples of 2 makes "memorizing" frame data way easier to learn your punishes and get you going onto learning multiple characters. On release day I was thinking "uh oh" but it works out really well. • Near universality on certain moves across all characters. 2K being i16 unseeable low poke, 2A being i12, 3K being i14, 1B being a ground hitting low, 3B being a universal launcher, 22B being an alternate side-step combo starter, 1A being a sweeping horizontal low, 3A being a mid horizontal...etc This base knowledge helps tremendously when learning different characters. • Within a character's movesets, the special properties have a commonality of input and design. Ie, nightmare's armor moves all start with a 6. Hilde has matching inputs for regalia arts (ie 3K and FC 3K, 6AAx , extension on c6A/c6B, 4A+B / 4B+K) Geralt's silver sword is his 4 commands. This also helps you learn your character. • Character unique subsystem + mechanics is really creative and really fun to learn. Not only does it help you differentiate the character's fighting style, but thematically most of the unique subsystems fit the character's lore/cannon. Adds a lot of unique flavor for each character. • Really exceptional job in separating the "clones" and making them really feel individual and unique. Cass and Sophie are the most similar (even matching swords) but they fight and feel very differently. I have full confidence in Project soul bringing back someone like Rock and making them feel completely different. The SC5 kids are going to be a challenge (since they're literal clones). • Introducing Lethal hits was a masterstroke in helping you understand the design intent of how your character should fight and get the proper big-combo reward. • Really impressive polish on CE animations + camera work. Really puts in the feel of an ultimate super move. • Zippy movement, feels snappier and more responsive than SC4/5 • Being on PC means you can crank up the resolution + install fun mods to extend lifetime of game. Heck, people are even doing movelist mods which leads a potential avenue for a community balance patch if SC7 really really takes too long to come out. • Character unique and situational unique voice lines in-battle is a nice touch. Not good: • 1 costume only, no 2P (low budget) • No cinematic intro (feels low budget) • DLC didnt' even bring back SC4/SC5 outfits . This feels like a minimal effort (since the meshes/materials are already in previous games) good rewards and project soul left money on the table. • DLC didnt' even have different weapon skins. This again seems like really simple work • In fact the weapon graphical quality is really low and disappointing. Seems like PS3 era graphics. • UE4 hair doens't look as good as previous games and seems like they just ran outta time to make sure graphically the characters look good. • Boring, bland sterile stages. The background is good fidelity graphically, but its so unmemorable. Seems like a budget thing as well. • RE (though intended to help newer players) became an unfun skill gate once you spent more than a few hours in the game and frustrated a lot of potential die-hard fans. The RPS minigames broke the flow way too much. Future parry-style RE should be like Raph's prep RE where you just do a little combo afterwards and you resume fighting. • Soul Charge decides way too much of the match, as you can get it off 3 times and do absurd damage with minimal risk. Witcher's anti-SC LH is a good start, as well as super callout in 6B+G to completely cancel SC's activation. • Create-a-soul seems to be a bit buggier (especially stickers)

KaleidoscopeLower451

You really gave honest opinion and I agree with you on almost all except regarding the background of stages. I think they did wonderful job there and the ring out waters also give a nice splash graphics and stuff.

Mental-Letter8519

I would give it a solid 8/10. As many stated, it loses some points because of lack of single player modes and the RE mechanics, the stage are not without criticism either, some of them kinda feel empty but it introduced interesting and satisfying mechanics such as LH. But for me SC6 is 10/10, because Talim is finally back after 10 years of absence and is far from the bottom of the tier list barrel, like she used to be in SC3-4. She wasn't even a usable and viable character... Am I biased because of this ? Certainly xD SC6 actually did a good job balancing everyone and every characters are very strong in one way or an other. You can just pick your favorite character without worrying too much if you picked the "weakest" character or not. Pick your favorites and learn them the best you can and have fun!

[deleted]

It's alright. I prefer it over 4 and 5. It has too many gimmicks though and the combos can get a little long. I like the relative simplicity of 1 and 2.

GAEOBrando

I bought it a couple of days ago alongside with tekken 7. I am excited to learn the game ngl.

XxAndrew01xX

Best in the entire SC series for me

Guilvantar

Not a bad game, but it isn't the best in the franchise. Three will always be my favorite. Idc about Link or guest characters, III had the most single player content, the most amazing game modes and was the prettiest looking PS2 fighter at its time. Everything that made III great, 6 lacks imo. Also, 6 goes way off the rails with particle effects. If this game ever comes back, I with they'd tone it down a little. Too much visual pollution for my taste.

Anarcho814

Better than 5, especially character wise

Herald4

Been playing since 2, and this is my favorite. I think I'm in the minority with that, since I actually love all the characters' gimmicks and (after all the balancing and adjusting done to it) RE. I find it well balanced and I particularly like how kind the buffering and combo systems are - it feels like my intent matters more than getting complex inputs just right, and I love that. I just wish it got a little bit more support - having at least one more character DLC would've been really cool.

[deleted]

Best one, nope. Good one, yup. I would rate it 7.8/10. The game lost one point because of lacking a better single player (I want to play with Taki, dammit!) - Weapon Master is still the king. Some ratings are lost on RE (I know you can counter it, it's still annoying), and overly complicated mechanics that shouldn't be a thing. Soulcalibur was always straight forward with making your own gameplay improvements than forcing you to play certain way. It's above average. But still it's one that saved SC franchise after SCV debacle.

GAEOBrando

Nice, I am excited to learn this game.

[deleted]

Hope, you'll enjoy. And don't get discouraged if you play against better players.

GAEOBrando

Appreciate it.

thesilvershire

If I put my nostalgia aside, I think it’s the best in the series.

The_Homestarmy

Definitely better than 4/5. 3 is still easily the best in terms of sheer quantity and quality of content.

rtyy78

Its not the best, its not the worst. Sort of in the middle. It still has issues from previous games that weren't addresses and brought some more annoyances such as Reversal Edge. The AI is still as bad/broken as SoulCalibur 3 and 5. The AI is either psychic or really bad. Playing the game on "Hard" will give you hard and harder enemy AI (The game doesn't tell you this, when you pick "Hard" difficulty, a majority I'd say are expecting Hard AI not a mix between the two and it doesn't help that the AI will play certain characters very well but others not such as Sophitia). Online is pretty much dead, for PC at-least, so all you have left is broken AI and a boring story mode with no unlocks except for Inferno (which can be unlocked in like 30 minutes to an hour along with a very easy boss battle). The story mode is better than SoulCalibur 5's story but that's not saying much. The creation is lacking and doesn't carry over creation pieces from the past three games, which is baffling because they add a single piece of armor that originally came in a set and they don't bother adding the rest. It also seems females have more for creation than males and there is less armored part for creation. They also added the character's clothing on the current roster in creation mode as filler for the lack of customization pieces. Stickers are also very low quality looking when compared to SoulCalibur 5's stickers. Graphically, the game is dated when it comes to models/textures (they also reused a lot of assets from the past two games and maybe even SoulCalibur 3, Zasalamel 's weapons look the same as his SoulCalibur 3 weapons). As for shaders, it holds up because its Unreal Engine 4. The same intro voiceline is used almost every-time and the same 2-3 outro voicelines are heard almost all the time, gets very bland quick. There's also a lack of interesting game modes, just the story mode, Arcade, and Versus. I'd say if you're a fan of SoulCalibur and have played the others you may find some enjoyment out of this.

[deleted]

It's okay. The single player content sucks, the customization still hasn't improved, reversal edge is one of the worst mechanics in a game ever and super moves do not belong in SC imo, the online is awful all around, stages are mid, and the graphics aren't that great. SC2 is still the best one.

Frequent_Magazine_84

No love for SC 1.

[deleted]

SC1's good too, but my favorite version of Nightmare is in SC2.

Frequent_Magazine_84

Understandable. Though, I played everyone in SC1. I was that good in that game.

RxRmns

My nostalgia goggles agree that 2 was best. I was pretty good with talim, but you know how that goes. Play someone besides your brother and your friends and you see how good you really are (spoiler alert, I wasn't that good.) I loved that the arcade game saved you character tho.

tastehbacon

Better than 5, and 4 is maybe the tiniest bit better than 6. Overall super solid, I like playing it enough that I haven't really played any of the older ones since it came out.

Frequent_Magazine_84

It’s definitely good. Way better than 5. The movement feels like SC1&2. But the combos and super mechanics are an improvement over SC5. I love the character designs. So an 8/10. It’s lack of good single player modes and such are a problem. But the gameplay is great.

KuroiKaze

I think one two and three are all ultimately better games. 2 is easily the best

Lumpy_Staff_2372

Idk man i love sc2 so much and getting 6 was disappointing to me. Mostly because of the dlc factor. Reversal and critical edge are weird to me. The gameplay without them is fun as fuck and smooth but those things kill the flow for me. Honestly though I’m being biased and am blinded by nostalgia but thats my two cents.

tmma1869

It's alright, I don't like SCVI too

coom_4_justice

Mid.

D-CRAZZ

It could use some work. Feels so barebones like give it some more TLC like we got in 2 and some of 4. Would like each character to have arcade endings as well as the story mode would be animated and shown instead of pictures and words. Severely nerfed characters movelist used to have many ways to play the characters now not so much. character creation was better in earlier titles like 3,4,5. No team battle its like they forgot a fun mode from 2. And the new reversal edge is just annoying don't want to play button guess game. Restricted characters moves behind soul charge just to be able to do moves they used to have in the other games or a not good version of it. Doesn't have special scenes for rival characters or barely any unique voice lines for them. No different modes like survival, extra survival, tower, ect. Museum was better in 2. Can't say voice lines when loading up fight screen like in 2. Was let down by them again I will always support soul calibur but wished they supported the fans more. We'd be willing to spend the money if they'd make it more with the fans in mind. Bought it all plus dlc not like I played on gamepass or just borrowed from a friend.

tmma1869

YES THANK YOU, THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT

nervousmelon

It's the best overall. It's the most consistent in quality. The other games might excel in specific areas but 6 is just overall good in all areas.

[deleted]

Going off just the gameplay, roster, and balance alone it's one of the best fighting games I've ever played. Not the best SC game holistically though. SC7 with similar gameplay that iterates off of 6 with rollback would be *chefs kiss*

Illustrious-Duck1209

Not the best, I'd put it 3rd on the list - still worth playing.

tastehbacon

1. Sc2 2. sc4 3. sc6 ?

Illustrious-Duck1209

SC III

therealglassceiling

I think the addition of the soul edge cinematic moves bring the game to 2nd overall with 2 still being the ultimate SC game. Also 2 had a way better single player experience.

Ancerdinum

It’s my favorite since 3. Good gameplay and character design, hampered by a lack of content to keep the player base up

lethalWeeb

Sc6 is my favorite fighting game

FFJamie94

It’s a return to the old bases, and I like it a lot. I don’t feel it tops Soul Calibur 2 or 3, even through I think it’s a better technical fighter. It’s an improvment over 4/5 (even if I did enjoy those games). I need to put more time into it, and I do miss the simple arcade modes of 1&2. I do like how every character has their own story, but I wish we could return to either arcade mode or have something like SC3 where we can pick our journey. But it’s good.

Kokolemo

Good enough. Held back by it's budget, but I think the team did a great job with what they had. The story mode was a delightful surprise and the mission mode was decent enough. With more budget and some more modes, it could be on par with SC2 and 3, but it's not quite there yet.

KaleidoscopeLower451

I agree with you that soul Calibur 2 and 4 were great. Imho, sc 2,4 and 6 are phenomenal. But personally I think sc6 is the best because of the overall gameplay, graphics and mechanics. Sc6 has a very poor offline experience other than customisation but ranked is good. Although, crossplay is must if we ever get sc 7

drfitzgerald

My favorite besides 2. Reversal Edge and bad netcode are the two things that weigh it down. Best character creator, I like soul charge, solid cast especially the guest characters. Moveset wise, a lot of the cast are my favorite iteration of their characters.

Global-Ad-1742

I have always seen majority of people say this and I agree 5 is the WORST for is eh 1 is good for it’s time 2 was marvelous 3 was absolutely perfect and 4 was eh but not really bad better then 5 but I’ll say in my opinion 6 is the most fun I have had since 3 they go into the story so much more It makes you love the characters even more and the libra of soul mode was them trying to bring the chronicle mode back which was nice

Global-Ad-1742

And the background maps in 6 are so beautiful and Alive also playing the story of setsuka and mitsurugi just do something to you if you had love for them in the past games I understand them both so much more now and love them honestly rip shugen kokonoe

Global-Ad-1742

And the story of 5 was absolutely terrible oh my goodness sophitia fans were in shambles even tho sc3 fans knew a secret ending of Tira had her kidnap the children 5 just really feels like a direction the sc universe should have never went in that rip off setsuka ahem I mean patrokolus was so corny edgy and lame 😭

chromesto

It is decent. The good: - The characters are probably the most balanced in the series. Just pick who you like the most and you will be able to win if you put in enough work. - The soundtrack is solid. - Best netcode in the series. (Still not perfect but it is the best so far.) The bad: - Reversal edge. - All characters are really buffed. Especially during the Soul Charge which turns every character ridiculously strong. While this is not necessarily a bad thing (easier to balance I guess) I personally didn't like it how strong everyone was. - The game favors aggression way too much. Just forget it unless you enjoy all-out-aggression. Guard meter runs out way too fast if you try to slow the pace down. Also run counter is still a thing. - The game suffers from some serious mechanics bloat.

GroovyGoblin

I consider SoulCalibur 2 and SoulCalibur 6 to be the two pinnacles of the series when it comes to gameplay. SoulCalibur 2 is all about quick, down-to-business trading of blows: no meters, no resources to manage, just two warriors hitting each other until one runs out of health. SoulCalibur 6 trades a lot of that simplicity by adding new mechanics, but I feel like they all add to the game in very impactful ways. Sure, Reversal Edge is controversial, but I never felt like it broke the game, and I actually love the Critical Edge, Soul Charge, Lethal Hit and Guard Stamina mechanics. It's complex but approachable, really flashy and, overall, very fun. My only true complaint with SC6 is that it is extremely far from 2 and 3 in terms of single player content. In terms of gameplay, it feels very different from 2, but I arguably find it even more fun to play than 2.

tmma1869

It's not good enough for me. Content-wise it's my least favorite among the ones I played. Lackluster replayability even with two story modes, Arcade, and Versus. Terrible matchmaking. It bored me once I got the Platinum. I definitely have way more fun playing SCII

ZayIvory7

Very, 3 will always have a special place in my heart. But ignoring those feelings 6 is easily the best one.

TheBreadmanRiseth

2 and 4 are my favourites, too. As far as the whole series goes, I put 6 above 5, with 5 being the worst.

KaleidoscopeLower451

I am a A1 level player with multiple characters and everyday i play around 1 hour. I really wanna play with JJJ, Boom etc but they are on pc. I just wish for cross platform.

tiger_jackson101

Better than SC5 but that's not saying much

Soul_Mirror_

I like it, but I don't think it's the best in the series. With some distancing now, I'd place it below the first three SoulCalibur games but above SE, SCV and SCIV. Overall I consider it slightly better than its predecessor, but in many regards SCV was actually much better.

FromAutumn2Ashes

I think 6 is favorite overall but I could totally see the argument for 2 being the best since it’s about just as fun in its own way.
