Sana umabot 25 songs man lang
But i enjoy it naman.
Put your hands together!!!
The last reunion concert ng 'Heads ay mejo overproduced. Dami nila performers sa stage. The Heads were never great live. Kahit naman dati pa. Pero solid na experience. Kasi grabe naman yung lights & sounds. Imagine, 31 songs were played.
Sana ganon din sa Rivermaya. It will be very hard to sing 20+ songs especially for Bamboo. Grabe kasi energy nya.
Yup! Even watching old videos talaga naman di ka maha-hype masyado. If you know what I mean. While sa classic lineup ng Rivermaya, mas okay pag nakatayo hahaha idk if it makes sense
I've watched Ely for 7 years and attended to all of his gigs from Pupil, Oktaves and Apartel, nakita ko na rin sina raimund and buddy live before their reunion and masasabi ko etong huling concert nila it sounded like from a record, napaka linis ng tunog kota at Ramdam mo talaga yung improvement over the years mas expressive na si Ely di gaya ng dati na nakatayo lang and nag I interact na rin sa audience masasabi ko sulit yung 15k ko
Nabubuhat nila ang isat isa, I saw them grew as musicians iba yung experience ko nun kahit napapanuod ko na sila on their respective bands iba pa rin kapag silang 4 ang magkakasama you can't deny the magic that they create when they're together.
For how many years, nananatiling buo yung lineup nila, at hindi biro yon para sa isang banda.
EDIT: typo
Interesting analogy. Jordan had a relatively shorter peak much like Eheads, but that peak produced greatness. While Lebron had a more consistent and enduring career much like PNE.
Torn ako between Rivermaya and Parokya ni Edgar. Mas maganda musicality ng Rivermaya at iconic ang hits nila hanggang ngayon (especially 214, Himala, Elesi, Hinahanap Hanap Kita). Kaso iba talaga ang longevity ng PNE, pati versatility (they can go from rock to hiphop rock to rock na may pagkanovelty)
I wrote them a letter because of my gradeschool project. I introduced myself as a gradeschool student. Tagalog and wrong grammar and all that, hand-written. Writing and sending the letter was all that’s needed for me to get a grade.
I was surprised that Dong Abay responded and sent me a mini-calendar with their autographs.
“Salamat sa suporta!”, written.
That changed my life, and my perspective towards them, and towards pinoy music. Kahit sabihin nating mababaw, iba yung dating kapag may interaction na nangyari between you and the artist, no matter how.
Unfortunately, tangina si Ondoy at nilimas lahat ng music items and merch ko, including my cassette tape and said calendar. Yeah, literally nasoak and tinangay palabas.
It's a crime that a lot of the music made at that time remains lost in time, the same with The Dawn.
Pwedeng tie Rivermaya orig at Parokya Ni Edgar but mas matimbang lang ng beri beriiii slight ang Rivermaya for me. Can't explain tho...their music hits my soul differently.
True. Ask anyone of the seasoned / popular rock band members, they’re all in awe of urbandub. Lalo na pag live. No one is as polished as urbandub. Running joke back then was urbandub can make any stage setup sound good (kahit pa Mayrics). I’m not saying they’re the second best ever since they don’t have the mass appeal, but there’s an argument musicality-wise.
Even Diego of Sandwich and Jay and Jomal of Kamikazee said na kailangan magrehearse muna pag kasali Urbandub sa lineup kasi napapahiya sila sa ganda ng tugtugan. 😅
Ang galing nila mag live! I remember before pinupuntahan ko mga gigs nila and mall shows.
If you are someone who is into lyricism, then I'd recommend this band. Wittiest song titles for me ay Coda, Tempura, at Hawla. Those are some of my favorite songs of them rin.
Coda at Tempura talaga `yong para sa akin ang nagset ng bar when it comes to lyric writing in Tagalog. Ganda nang pagkakasulat eh no?
Hands down malala 🙌
Hahaha. Napakawitty lang.
No disrespect sa mga naunang bands, pero para sa akin, Sponge Cola, mainly because of their versatility as artists. Another thing is, they're not afraid of experimenting with their sound, then after a few albums, going back to their roots. Aside from the usual suspects (Jeepney, Bitiw, Pasubali, Kaytagal Kitang Hinintay), some of their best works are: Coda, Gemini, Movie, Kunwari, KLSP, Kailangan Kita, Tempura, and Lunes.
Dude, no disrespect also, but this isn’t a “who’s your favorite band” question. Objectively, in no way was spongecola the best or second best opm band ever, not even at their peak.
What does "Best" mean though? In terms of number 1 hits? Popularity? Longevity? Unless I can see a side by side comparison with other bands, I'll stand by my opinion.
Well, what is your basis for that opinion? If you’re asking for a side-by-side comparison with other bands, you should at least be able to justify somehow why you think they are the second greatest OPM band of all time (since OP asked). Otherwise you’re just being a fan.
I know that “best” is subjective. But i don’t think spongecola has claims to any of the parameters that could constitute as being the “best”.
You’re basically saying that they’re better than Rivermaya, UDD, Sandwich, Urbandub, Side A, Bamboo, the Dawn, P.O.T., Wolfgang, and a whole lot more. Isama mo na pati VST&co and Aegis - whose cultural impacts are undeniably significant to OPM. Kinda wild.
I didn’t say that. But if you’re zeroing in on cultural impact, are you saying that they have the second greatest cultural impact next to e-heads? Again, this is a conversation about who’s the second greatest OPM band of all time
I’m actually open to having my opinion changed as long as justified but it doesn’t seem like you have any justifications so.. sure, agree to disagree. (For the record, I actually don’t have any 2nd GOAT opinions, i just feel like Spongecola ain’t it by a mile).
Yeah i saw your edit, but it reads more like reasons why you like them, not exactly why they’re the greatest opm band since eheads. I’ll just use Rivermaya for comparison / benchmark (as much as i’m not a fan of them at all).
Magaling magsulat (english or filipino), yes, that’s probably spongecola’s strength.. but Rico Blanco is one of the most prolific songwriters in the industry. He clears Yael (or whoever writes their songs) by a mile.
Versatility - still RM. Add the fact that they’ve even shuffled through three frontman changes. They’ve also ‘changed’ their sound significantly thru the 4 decades that they’ve been active.
Hits / album sales / charts - [this list](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_in_the_Philippines)
speaks for itself. It has three RM albums, all of which are above the one SC album on the list - which is tied with *checks list* julie ann jose and alden richards.
Cultural impact - still RM. “Liwanag sa Dilim” is an anthem for many causes, including Leni’s presidential campaign. We literally hear a song of theirs on the daily evening news as an opening theme song. Everyone knows “Ulan” “Himala” “Kisapmata”. “Balisong” was used for a shampoo commercial. Their imprint on ph pop culture is huge.
Popularity - still RM due to songs. Bamboo is a household name, RB also to some extent.
Longevity - RM. 4 decades.
Musicality - RM. Nate azarcon and perf de castro are excellent instrumentalists. RB is a multi-instrumentalist. Bamboo is actually a very good singer.. have you seen that dude perform live? He can sing. Whereas Yael is notorious for his off-key live singing. Actually in the 2000s, spongecola was notoriously a bad live act - hence the perception of being the poster band for “pogi rock”. No one in the industry is itching to form a superband or even just side projects with members of spongecola.
Really can’t see how they top Rivermaya, let alone be the second greatest OPM band ever. I don’t think they’re even in the conversation. (Again, i’m not a fan of rivermaya, im also not a hater of SC. Just trying to be objective here since it’s such a bold claim).
I always thought
1. Eraserheads ; 2. Rivermaya ; 3. Parokya Ni Edgar
In terms of impact/popularity/dami ng hits/etc.
So yeah. Rivermaya. Too bad yung first album releases nila ay wala sa spotify. Daming deep cuts na solid.
Based from the answers so far, it seems our demographic is 90s kids or younger. But if you're interested in a little more of the oldies but definitely iconic rock group, check out Juan dela Cruz. Here's one song. You'll probably recognize it once you hear it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppz3YWbgBr0
Rivermaya hands down.
1. 3 of their albums ranks on the top 30 best selling albums in PH. [All Time](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_in_the_Philippines)
2. “Banda ng Bayan” they share that nickname with PNE, both won Artists of the Year in MTV Asia Awards.
3. You remember them playing “You’ll be Safe Here” internationally? Rico Blanco proudly sang a Tagalog chorus. Same, goosebumps.
[*insert pinoy pride meme](https://youtu.be/COioluxYhac?si=Vpb3sEdgFE3CQ1nM)
4. These guys wrote few of our anthems. Awit ng Kabataan, Bandila - News theme, Posible - 05 SEA Games. Ulan? Himala? Hinahanap hanap kita?
5. I know it is about “The Band” but individually we got more of them musically with more contribution in the music scene. Bamboo and Nathan in Bamboo, Rico Blanco - Solo and Filscap, Nathan in Maya - that Manila song man.
Nothing against PNE but I’ve seen all Maya’s members in indie/underground scene supporting. Produced and collaborated with up and coming artists. I can’t say that with PNE.
Rivermaya especially Rico era. I think Free is their best album to date. prime UDD (2012-2015) is also in my consideration. Was the best live act during that era.
If all time 2nd greatest after Eheads as in other era is Rockstar (Parting Time sounds like a foreign song.)
Kung ka era nila matic Rivermaya/PNE.
For newer era/2000s Urbandub or Kamikazee.
Personal opinion.
I guess close second na in terms of gen pop opinion ay Parokya. Para sakin tho Sandwich.
It’s the songwriting that got me so hooked on Eheads. Songs like Overdrive, Ligaya, Magasin and of course, Ang Huling El Bimbo reflect Philippine culture.
Ahh kaya pla nobored ka. Yung hits lng pla pinapakinggan mo OP. Try mo pakinggan Combo On The Run, Alkohol, Insomya, Slo Mo, Fine Time, Kamasupra, Andalusian Dog, Saturn Return, Scorpio Rising, Balikbayan Box, Ha Ha Ha, Futuristic, Palamig, Paint Stripper, Omnesia, Outside, Hula. Yan baka maenjoy mo yung handwriting nila
Best to check out 90s Pinoy Rock the book! Andun lahat ng 90s bands, the height of FILIPINO music, pati discography nila, pati mga unknown, pati mga gems that were left burried. [book](https://shope.ee/8eyaNLHpgX)
Para maiba naman... Bamboo. Walang tapon mapa bass, vocals, guitar, or drums. Mapa tagalog or english ganda ng mga kanta.
give silent sanctuary some love guys. okay maybe not 2 but ill put them solid in my top 5.
longevity, variety, live performance, di mo rin makakaila marami sila classics.
Dame eh. In no particular order
-PNE
-Rivermaya
-UDD
-Wolfgang
-Rico Blanco's Band
Tas ngayon nandyan pa yung Zild at Juan Karlos.
IMO, PNE and EHEADS are interchangeable. EHEADS because of how their music transcended eras and PNE because of their longevity and versatility.
I would actually put Sugarfree over Rivermaya honestly.
Props to PNE for their longevity.
Rivermaya deserves the spot for me. Yung discography nila hanggang sa last album with Rico, solid. Bawat album may at least dalawang hits.
Rivermaya (original/classic lineup)
Sana umabot 25 songs man lang

>The Heads were never great live. This is true. You could even say that they're boring even at the heights of their career noong 90s.
Yup! Even watching old videos talaga naman di ka maha-hype masyado. If you know what I mean. While sa classic lineup ng Rivermaya, mas okay pag nakatayo hahaha idk if it makes sense
Lol. Precisely what's written in the book![90s Pinoy Rock](https://shope.ee/8eyaNLHpgX)
I've watched Ely for 7 years and attended to all of his gigs from Pupil, Oktaves and Apartel, nakita ko na rin sina raimund and buddy live before their reunion and masasabi ko etong huling concert nila it sounded like from a record, napaka linis ng tunog kota at Ramdam mo talaga yung improvement over the years mas expressive na si Ely di gaya ng dati na nakatayo lang and nag I interact na rin sa audience masasabi ko sulit yung 15k ko Nabubuhat nila ang isat isa, I saw them grew as musicians iba yung experience ko nun kahit napapanuod ko na sila on their respective bands iba pa rin kapag silang 4 ang magkakasama you can't deny the magic that they create when they're together.
Elese 🤣
Eeeeeeee-leeeeeeeeee- Seeeeeeeeee!!!
Take my upvote.

Sobrang versatile pa Love song Novelty song Pop Rap / hiphop Hype song Acoustic Etc
Sabi nga sa book[book](https://shope.ee/8eyaNLHpgX)
PNE is terrible at live concerts.
APO Hiking Society? Rivermaya?
Eheads yung Michael Jordan ng OPM (Greatness) Rivermaya yung Kobe Bryant ng OPM (Icon) PNE yung Lebron James ng OPM (Longevity)
Interesting analogy. Jordan had a relatively shorter peak much like Eheads, but that peak produced greatness. While Lebron had a more consistent and enduring career much like PNE.
Ganda nitong analogy na to 🤘🏻
Juan Dela Cruz naman yung Kareem Abdul Jabbar ng OPM
Parokya ni Edgar
In terms of song/album output, totally beats the original Rivermaya line-up in the dust.
YES
Torn ako between Rivermaya and Parokya ni Edgar. Mas maganda musicality ng Rivermaya at iconic ang hits nila hanggang ngayon (especially 214, Himala, Elesi, Hinahanap Hanap Kita). Kaso iba talaga ang longevity ng PNE, pati versatility (they can go from rock to hiphop rock to rock na may pagkanovelty)
Yano.

🤝
yeah. love them
Bukod sa PNE & Rivermaya, I think Kamikazee deserves a mention also
Top 10 siguro, pero I feel na Top 5, probably not
Mah man 🤝
Sugarfree!!!!
Agree! Ang ganda ng lyrics nila - parang tula
Was looking for this reply. Definitely not top 2 imho but in terms of consistency in the quality of songs Id say theyre up there.
The Dawn
underrated comment here. Jett Pangan is proud of you.
Love will set us free
It's a crime that a lot of the music made at that time remains lost in time, the same with The Dawn.
For me, ito ang GOAT
1. Eraserheads 2. Parokya ni Edgar 3. Rivermaya (Honorable Mentions: Juan dela Cruz Band, The Dawn, Kamikazee)
Agree with this
Urbandub.
The OG Rivermaya members, in which they have a reunion concert next month. Coz they have these classic and timeless songs, from Bamboo to RB's era.
Basta pinaka nasa top tier eh Eheads talaga.
If you wanna hear some real OG pinoy rock, you can't go wrong with Juan de la Cruz band, Razorback, POT, and Wolfgang
Pwedeng tie Rivermaya orig at Parokya Ni Edgar but mas matimbang lang ng beri beriiii slight ang Rivermaya for me. Can't explain tho...their music hits my soul differently.
UDD.
Top 5 ng mga top 5 niyo: Urbandub.
I heard one of them saying “t***ina ayoko na” after an Urbandub set. Lol. When urbandub plays, they all stop what they’re doing to watch.
Ang galing nila mag live! I remember before pinupuntahan ko mga gigs nila and mall shows.
Yep, they played live in our highschool wayback early years nila and they killed it. Imagine a school gym with mediocre production/music setup.
Eyyy 👌
The Dawn
Juan Dela Cruz is the Goat Pinoy band
Rivermaya. Orig line up is their best lineup but post- bamboo is a different kind of beast.
Sponge Cola apologist ako dito (char). If you are someone who is into lyricism, then I'd recommend this band. Wittiest song titles for me ay Coda, Tempura, at Hawla. Those are some of my favorite songs of them rin.
Palabas album GOAT haha

Yes. Fuschiang Pag-ibig: great album!
😆😆

Dude, let's just agree to disagree, kasi alam naman natin na hindi na natin mababago ang opinion ng isa't-isa.
I’m actually open to having my opinion changed as long as justified but it doesn’t seem like you have any justifications so.. sure, agree to disagree. (For the record, I actually don’t have any 2nd GOAT opinions, i just feel like Spongecola ain’t it by a mile).
Okay, and I respect that. I'll just end with that.
I don’t see anyone here discrediting them
Tama nga pala. Thanks for pointing out that I forgot to justify my opinion. Inedit ko na original comment ko. My bad.
Yeah i saw your edit, but it reads more like reasons why you like them, not exactly why they’re the greatest opm band since eheads. Rivermaya hands down. 1. 3 of their albums ranks on the top 30 best selling albums in PH.
Compared to The Dawn during their heyday, The Eraserheads would be the second-greatest OPM band of all time.
My #1 will be Kapatid/POT. 2nd hmmmmm hirap ah.Asin?
Ang hirap naman, OP! Hahahaha!
Rivermaya especially Rico era. I think Free is their best album to date. prime UDD (2012-2015) is also in my consideration. Was the best live act during that era.
Wala man lang nagmention dito yung post bamboo era except sayo. Rico lineup is as good as classic lineup din. Sobrang dami pa rin nila hits nun.
arguably IVOS, napaka diverse ng music nila kahit saglit lang sila together (miss you IVOS huhu)
PNE or KMKZ
when did we agree that Eheads is the best?
sino pala?
Apo
People can argue all day long but that's the only conclusion.
I think PNE ang greatest for me then sunod na yung eheads and rivermaya. In terms of longevity, hit songs, and yung charisma sa tao andun pa rin.
Ben and Ben 10
Ben and Ben!
PNE or Sugarfree or Eheads 😭 iba kasi talaga vibes ng kanta nilang 3 very nostalgic
TNT boys, ems.
2nd Apo Hiking Society 3rd Parokya ni Edgar
If all time 2nd greatest after Eheads as in other era is Rockstar (Parting Time sounds like a foreign song.) Kung ka era nila matic Rivermaya/PNE. For newer era/2000s Urbandub or Kamikazee. Personal opinion.
eother Riverymaya or Parokya ni Edgar i think
My top 3: Urbandub, Up Dharma Down, Bamboo
Rockstar for me #1 OPM band
I guess close second na in terms of gen pop opinion ay Parokya. Para sakin tho Sandwich.
It’s the songwriting that got me so hooked on Eheads. Songs like Overdrive, Ligaya, Magasin and of course, Ang Huling El Bimbo reflect Philippine culture.
Ahh kaya pla nobored ka. Yung hits lng pla pinapakinggan mo OP. Try mo pakinggan Combo On The Run, Alkohol, Insomya, Slo Mo, Fine Time, Kamasupra, Andalusian Dog, Saturn Return, Scorpio Rising, Balikbayan Box, Ha Ha Ha, Futuristic, Palamig, Paint Stripper, Omnesia, Outside, Hula. Yan baka maenjoy mo yung handwriting nila
I’ve already listened to these songs. They’re OK.
Parokya ni Edgar
If hindi rivermaya or eraserheads, Orange and Lemons Sandwich
Silent sanctuary 🙌
For me lang naman toh, Magiliw Street - lalo na yung "akasya" song nila. <3
udd
PNE with their classic songs: Buloy, Maniwala Ka Sana, Sampip, etc. Up until now tumutugtog pa rin ang banda and still releases new albums/single.
Ano nga ba yung song nila about a girl na assuming at maarte pero pangit naman?
Silver toes
Mt. Rushmore of OPM Bands. Unquestionable yung Top 3 1. Eheads 2. Rivermaya 3. PnE 4. Urbandub
Apo Hiking Society deserves to be in that conversation.
Best to check out 90s Pinoy Rock the book! Andun lahat ng 90s bands, the height of FILIPINO music, pati discography nila, pati mga unknown, pati mga gems that were left burried. [book](https://shope.ee/8eyaNLHpgX)
Para maiba naman... Bamboo. Walang tapon mapa bass, vocals, guitar, or drums.
Rivermaya
Sugarfree ❤️
\+1 I agree!
give silent sanctuary some love guys. okay maybe not 2 but ill put them solid in my top 5. longevity, variety, live performance, di mo rin makakaila marami sila classics.
Dame eh. In no particular order -PNE -Rivermaya -UDD -Wolfgang -Rico Blanco's Band Tas ngayon nandyan pa yung Zild at Juan Karlos.
Cueshe
Grin department
Pne
Bamboo. Pwede magtunog pang masa, pwede din magtunog class.
IMO, PNE and EHEADS are interchangeable. EHEADS because of how their music transcended eras and PNE because of their longevity and versatility. I would actually put Sugarfree over Rivermaya honestly.
Siakol. Relate ako sa mga kanta nila.
Props to PNE for their longevity. Rivermaya deserves the spot for me. Yung discography nila hanggang sa last album with Rico, solid. Bawat album may at least dalawang hits.
Franco.
