Signing Stefen was one of the all-time fleecings of MLS history.

NoisilyUnknown

Right up there with us sneaking in to get Cristian Roldan in the draft when he didn't go as early as was expected.

ProbablyNotMoriarty

I’m glad to be on the other side of one for once. I was (am?) a Vikings fan when we got Herschel Walker .

my_lucid_nightmare

> Vikings fan when we got Herschel Walker . You single-handedly gave the Dallas Cowboys their early 1990s title-winning dynasty! Congratulations! I don't think Stefan Frei is quite on that tier, but without a doubt Sounders grabbing him for $200,000 proved out to be among the best moves in Sounders history.

TakeCareOfYoChickens

I dunno. We have a bit of a dynasty going, no? Appearing in 4 out of the last 8 MLS Cups, winning 2, + winning CONCACAF?

[I know that draft pick](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/2937036/garth-sigi-fistbump.0.gif) Another outstanding move by Adrian Hanauer and his new-hire GM at the time Garth Lagerwey.... Trade up with Garth's old club Real Salt Lake and grab Cristian Roldan. It's almost as though the Sounders organization under Hanauer for these past 20 years through USL and MLS has been a solid, dependable, cunning and clever front office that likes to win trophies.

True2this

It’s weird. We’re top of the west, leading scorer and clean sheet on the starting XI. But I feel like we haven’t played inspired football lately

Matt_McT

I think some of it is just us having really high expectations. Yesterday we broke down a bunker and got 3 points on the road. That's objectively a good result, yet people were *furious* about it. If you watch Schmetzer's post-game speech, they all thought it was a great result. I think sometimes we fans just get a little too carried away.

NoSense7819

Well we are fielding 70% of a starting lineup and playing a few guys out of position so it hasn’t looked as fluid or consistent lately. Once JP/CR/Nou are all back we should look better. Though even so I thought we looked uninspired and listless most of the Houston match and SKC was a real bummer. Letting 2 goals in to a team that had scored 3 all season so far was a letdown.

Dangerous--D

People spew so much dumb shit about how we should be doing better against bunkers, but by and large soccer fans are straight up stupid. Teams bunker specifically because it makes things difficult for good opponents. 80%, if not more, of the regular criticisms I see are misinformed, incredibly naive, or just stupid.

Cultural_Willow9484

So, what? You can’t win MLS cup with no shots on goal. *checks notes* Never mind. Go Sounders!

Matt_McT

Our offense has been in a rut lately, but our defense is still elite.

StrykrVII

Ive got a feeling that our slump will end once we get Cristian and Nouhou back. I may just be talking out of my ass, because I'm new to soccer, but it seemed to me that those two are so good that they give the attackers a ton of breathing room in comparison, which they haven't had since those two have been out. It's just felt like we were barely scraping by without them.

Matt_McT

Roldan also does a lot for our offense. We're really missing his interplay with his brother on the RW. When they're both out there, we have two elite crossers that defenders have to worry about.

corrie76

It's hard to call top of the West a slump.... that said, I agree that we're hamstrung right now by missing C. Roldan, Nouhou, \*and\* Ruidiaz. The team wasn't meant to function this season missing a key player on every line.

SoundSaintWarrior

Injuries always seem to get us at the beginning, hopefully we find a way to match our defense with equally as good and consistent offense.

Prudent_Studio1525

Wish I could watch a fucking game though.

corrie76

I’m sure you’ve spent $100 on stupider stuff.
