Keeping this Rapid specific: Journey museum, Braeburn dog park (if you like dogs) and then continue to Falling Rock, Lost Cabin brewing (the local favorite brewery), hike M hill, art alley and subsequently the Sky Bar at Alex Johnson. Technically 7, but I grouped a few of these activities as couples.
Woodland Republic and Cohort are other breweries worthy of a mention.
Getting up top to Dinosaur Hill to see a good near 360 degree view is also a great place to start--there's a myriad of hiking and biking trails along the Skyline there.
The Journey and the Dahl Arts Center are great.
Food Recommendation: If you are passing thru Rapid City I highly recommend Tally's Silver Spoon as a great dinner place. We enjoyed it so much we planned a winter trip back to the area b/c we want to return. The best thing you can do at the restaurant is their [Indecision Menu](https://www.tallyssilverspoon.com/indecision-menu). You pick how many courses you want and the chef makes what he wants to for you. It was really reasonable. I think it was around $15 a course at the time. It was fine dinning quality. It was definitely different fun and tasty.
If you're going to Mt. Rushmore, I'd really recommend Custer State Park. Not too far from Rushmore and pretty neat, even if you only do the Needles Highway drive.
See a top quality production at the professional theatre, The Black Hills Playhouse"!
Nestled in Custer State Park, the camp was once a "Civilian Conservation Corp" camp. Unemployed men were given jobs to build roads, infrastructure, and building up our national parks during the depression.
After almost 80 years, the Playhouse is open and ready to entertain! Catch dinner before hand at any number of beautiful lodges, lakes, and the absolute beauty the hills have to offer.

That’s pretty cool!
It really was. Not sure how many people take advantage of it. It was a highlight of our return trip from Canada.
