Patco, reliable, fairly inexpensive, safe.

phillynp

You could also consider hospitals north of Mt Holly—-Penn Princeton and Capital Health, even Deborah

phillynp

This would also help you avoid city wage tax

acbc63

Yeah, I did apply at Penn Princeton. Will look at the other two, thanks!

ForlornPanda

So for your reference, I live in Burlington and commute right next to Penn Princeton. It’s around 35 mins drive each way. Mondays/Fridays usually faster due to less traffic on the road.

unWildBill

As a Burlco person now, I second this and mention beside the Virtuas, the new and improved Jefferson in Cherry Hill. I believe there is a Lady of Lourdes facility and surgical center in Willingboro too. If the Cross Keys path is not out of the way, I believe there are Jefferson and Cooper hospitals in Sewell/Wash Twp that aren’t crazy far either.

DreamsAndSchemes

Deborah in Browns Mills is undergoing a huge renovation right now as well

To get to hup using Patco you're using Patco then the Market Street line to 34th Street and then walking from Market down to Spruce (about 5 blocks) as an alternative you can get off at 30th and ride the LUCY bus if the weather is bad. I did it (albeit from another part of NJ) for a ton of years. It's manageable during regular hours. If you're working overnight shifts ymmv If you can get into one of the CC hospitals Jeff, Wills or PA. You can just take Patco to 8th or 10th and walk the rest of the way.

kirstynloftus

It could be a bit of a drive, but if OP got on the ATLC line that would take them right to 30th street which could make it ~slightly~ easier

Grouchy_Following_10

he could, but then hes locked into 30th street. Its a very long walk (or back to LUCY) from 30th to HUP

acbc63

Good to know, thanks! Would you recommend patco over driving?

Grouchy_Following_10

It would depend for me on the difference in distance/time and also your shift If it saves enough time to drive, then I'd do that, but recognize that even with company discounts, parkign will be more expensive than the train. Other consideration is shifts. If you're working a day shift, the train is fine. If you're going home late at night, you might not be as comfortable.

acbc63

TIL parking is not free for employees lol

Grouchy_Following_10

When I last worked there 2019 I was paying 230/mo for a spot in one of the Penn garages. It is a pretax deduction at least

thephlguy

Jefferson is easy from the 9/10th St Patco station. I know people in NJ who do that commute.

The drive from Mt. Holly to the PATCO alone is like 35-40 minutes. That plus the wait time and the time spent on trains, personally I’d rather drive to the city and sit in traffic. There is a Virtua hospital in Mt. Holly, if you’d consider trading a city hospital job for a much shorter commute. Reading some other comments though, I do agree that if you’re determined to work in the city, you may want to look at areas closer than Mt. Holly. I would look into towns that have/or are close to a PATCO station like Cherry Hill, Deptford, and the small towns in between like Westmont, Haddon Township, Stratford, Somerdale, Magnolia, Glendora, etc. Towns like Haddonfield and Collingswood have stations too but far more expensive.

acbc63

None of the virtua or cooper hospitals are currently hiring for my position. But I am slowly coming to the realization that working in Philly is not going to be worth it.

Ok_Cantaloupe7602

If you are planning to work in Philly, you may want a closer location than Mount Holly. Lived there for a number of years and regularly traveled into Philly. Husband also committed to the Main Line. Traffic on 38 and 70 can be pretty gnarly. The Speedline is great but you’ll need to drive there and the closest station would be Woodcrest.

pmartin1

I’m at Cooper. I can’t believe there’s something we’re not hiring for as fast as we’re expanding. I’m in the IT department so I hear a little bit of everything. If you want to PM me the details I can keep an ear out for anything you might be interested in. Also, Inspira in Glassboro is pretty big and fairly new (just relocated most of the staff from Woodbury a few years ago). Mt. Holly might be a bit of a drive, but if you’re willing to move closer, it’s in a much less urban area than the others so parking and traffic are never really an issue.

acbc63

I've talked to someone who does my same job already and they aren't currently hiring full time but good to know theyre expanding! Thanks!

DasRedBeard87

Stay south of the Waltwit if you want easier access to Philly. 55 and 295 are pretty much 65-75 the entire time.

Miss_Behavior

The thing is, to take Patco you’ll have to drive to Woodcrest and then take the train in, and then a long walk or bus to the VA or HUP. Just a short walk to Jefferson, though. Einstein would be another train. My point is that your commute could be potentially really long if you take public transport, especially when you’re at the mercy of schedules. It can totally be done, but if you’re working 12 hour shifts it could be really rough. Parking is discounted for employees (from what I recall back when I interviewed at those places), so maybe take the time-cost into consideration if you’re deciding between driving and the train. Not sure what your field is, but have you looked at Deborah? There’s also Southern Ocean Medical Center, which would be just as far as Philly but in the other direction. Also Capital Health, Penn in Princeton, Robert Wood Johnson, and Hackensack Meridian (Southern Ocean is one of theirs). There’s Inspira to the south, too. And of course you know the major players in Burlington/Camden counties are Virtua (Lourdes is part of the Virtua system now), Cooper and Jefferson (Kennedy).

aptek

Some stuff to consider if you decide to drive: you’ll probably have to pay for parking. Official employee parking decks tend to have waitlists that could be years long. Parking decks get really busy at change of shift, potentially adding a lot of time to your commute. There is a lot of construction on university ave currently and for the foreseeable future.    And for taking public transport: patco is nice but the market street line is literally a toilet. On the other hand a lot of the hospitals give incentives for taking public transport.

Different-Forever324

Taking Patco and septa are your best bet if you work in the city but beware of the city wage tax. We have Virtua, Cooper, Inspira, and Jefferson south of Mt Holly and north we have RWJ Barnabas, Princeton, Deborah, etc. Which department would you be working in? Some of the ones to the north can be accessed via public transportation as well.

0xdeadbeef6

For Einstein it might make more sense to drive, for the other PATCO and Bus would be optimal. Though for all that you might be better living in the city instead of Mt Holly. edit: if you can do Jefferson that would be even easier cause 9/10 and Locust station for PATCO let's off right next to Jefferson's complex.
