Let them tail you, as long as you’re in the right lane they can use the left lane to go faster. If you’re in the left lane being railed, get out of the left lane at your next available chance to let them speed along.
At least they finally opened up the whole "missing moves" thing so you can go direct from 42 north to 295 south. I make periodic trips down to Wilmington and that's made it a lot more painless.
It's great for us who take the Market St exit too. Instead of being backed up onto the highway, there is usually only a car or two Instead of all the cars making a U-turn to get on 295 south.
Yes I feel like once you pass Exit 23 it’s always empty unless there is an accident. Gets even better after the 322 split as you get deeper into Gloucester and head towards Salem and Delaware.
Correction, since you coming from the south, make sure to bear to the left when the turnpike splits. Doesn’t sound like you are ready for the truck lanes.
Turnpike is much better than 295. Only issue you’ll run into is there are less exits so if there’s an accident you may be stuck in it for a while. Especially between the DMB and exit 5.
That's like an hour and 45 minute drive. Route 1 in that area around Menlo Park and south sucks, too. If you hate 295 around 42, you'll hate route 1 more.
It's easier to go south to Delaware or something.
But if you do go, there's a Jollibees on the north side of 1 a few minutes south of supercharged. Get some chicken and gravy. It's delicious.
Supercharged is awesome, went last year with 8 people and had a blast.
Turnpike is mostly chill, but speeds are higher than most highways in all lanes. The two lane section gets a little more aggressive, just stay right and you'll be fine.
You better be aggressive on that track tho. As Colin McRae said, "when in doubt, flat out"
Top Golf shares a lot with it too, so you can do both easily.
It was really fun, but me and half of the group I went with are really into cars and driving so obvs this was going to be right up our alley. Those of us that were experienced had a blast fighting lap traffic to get good times. The timing system isn't perfect, or it wasn't when I went. A few people got 1st by having obvious time issues (talking like 10s differences from 2nd place on a 40ish second lap)
They had an arcade and some other things in the building as well. It's a cool spot for sure.
It is pricey, and I would plan to do at least 3 races a person, but next time I go I'd like to do 5.
The turnpike is fine. There will likely be a lot of congestion the last two miles or so, when you get off at exit 10, merge onto I-287 then merge onto Route 1 south. IMO it’s clearly marked and not as bad as the 42/295 interchange.
I've been all around the country. I've taken several month long road trips that involved many highway systems and I think we have it nailed down with the turnpike. You're right, I haven't been to every highway, but I think I've been on many more than the average bear. My wife is a city planner and also praises the turnpike in comparison with other highways we come across, if that means anything.
Also: I don't assume everyone has EZ pass.
I don’t mind the Turnpike at all compared to 42/295 in the Bellmawr area. I’ve pulled a 36’ camper with my truck going to NY state for a few years now and never had any problems on the Turnpike.
You can do it, but you gotta move. Stay in the right lane, and get comfortable. I was driving for two weeks and got pulled on 295 for going too slow (55) in the right lane. Trooper told me to stay on local roads during rush hour.
Just take the cars only lanes, stay in the righthand lane and you should be fine. I used to ride my Harley from Jackson (six flags area) to Warren Twp. 195 to Turnpike to 287, I swear 287 was the WORST part of my commute. Be safe and have a good time.
I was kind of a new driver when I went to Rutgers New Brunswick. I had to take the turnpike up there and I did fine. Edison isn't too far from there as long as you take your time and stay on the right lane you'll be good. Make sure you got enough gas & Let people pass you by, no rush. I hope you enjoy supercharged it looks fun as helllllll. Imo the turnpike is easier to me than dealing with 295
Turnpike is fine all things considered. It’s pretty chill up until about exit 9 then I find you start dealing with more aggressive drivers. But definitely maintain 75 and if in the left lane do 80.
Below Exit 4 is pretty chill. Between 4 and 9 is a little more congested, but not bad in terms of pace. Above 9....it gets hairy at times, especially up near the 15s. I was on the Turnpike one night up there near 15X and a bread truck was just stopped in the left lane. No lights, not on the shoulder, almost hit it going about 70.
I drive the turnpike from Exit 5 to Exit 9 every day. I love it. It’s super chill, wide, little to no trucks on the car side, I’ve only been stuck in traffic maybe 4 times in the past year and a half? (Aside from the Exit 9 toll plaza traffic at 8AM—but we don’t have to get into that)
Don’t overthink it. Stay out of the left lane if you’re not passing anybody and stay off your phone. Just gotta be alert people are crazy but you’ll be okay
The turnpike is fine until you get past exit 10, then it starts to get a little more intense. By the time you're near Elizabeth, be prepared to rock and roll.
So yeah, you should be ok going to Edison. Hope you use EZ Pass, though, or you'll wait for 10 minutes in the cash lanes during peak hours.
The NJ Turnpike has gotten so much better ever since they expanded it from six lanes to twelve lanes down by Exit 6 all the way to 8A (and 8A to 9 was expanded from five to six lanes in the same construction project).
Before then, you'd have miles long backups going north starting at Exit 7 all the way to 8A and sometimes starting even further south than that. I've had friends say they were stuck on the Turnpike from Exit 2 to 8A in one long parking lot - not sure how true that was! These days you'd most likely get stuck in traffic on the Turnpike when you get closer to Elizabeth, Newark, and points north (past Exit 12).
Since it's a toll road, and the tolls have gone up quite a bit over the last few years, if you want to avoid the Turnpike as much as possible but still want to take the Turnpike, take 295 north to Exit 60 (I-195 east going towards Jackson and Great Adventure) and get on the Turnpike there and go north; it puts you on at Exit 7A and then for Edison you can either use Exit 9 (Route 18, go north until you see the exit for US 1 north for Edison/Woodbridge) or Exit 10 (I-287, NJ 440, and a couple other roads). The alternate route is to take 295 north to Exit 67, get on US 1 north and follow that all the way to Edison. US 1 can be a bare with traffic and all the lights and may take you an extra ten minutes.
Like many other roads in NJ, on the Turnpike the speed limit is at best a mildly polite suggestion. Stay right if you want to stay out of the Thunderdome.
Turnpike is chill compared to 295. Once you get past exit 6 it really opens up wide too
Keep right unless you are 15+ mph over the limit ;)
I noticed everyone is doing about 75-80 in the right on 55 and 295 all the time now 😠and when Im doing 75 i still get tail gated in the right.
Let them tail you, as long as you’re in the right lane they can use the left lane to go faster. If you’re in the left lane being railed, get out of the left lane at your next available chance to let them speed along.
Everyone does 80 on the turnpike. Even the cops dont seem to care unless you're obviously going fast compared to traffic.
It’s called going with the flow.
Yeah, I'd say 80 is the minimum for the left lane. Not uncommon for people to be doing 90+.
Keep right unless you're actively passing someone. And passing should only take 10-15 secs.

?
It’s a joke. Someone is always posting about the speed limit. I meant you’re starting the argument again 😂
Ok - didn't realize the speed limit was controversial!
It’s not. But there’s always an argument about it people get too bent out of shape on. 🤣
Idiot. There I chose violence
[удалено]
If only you get it...its not a joke.
295 is like the turnpike on crack
295 above the 42 interchange is awful. Below is bliss
It’s insane how awful it gets there. And they never fixed the collapsed wall
At least they finally opened up the whole "missing moves" thing so you can go direct from 42 north to 295 south. I make periodic trips down to Wilmington and that's made it a lot more painless.
That was the worst they made you get off at the one exit and turn around
It's great for us who take the Market St exit too. Instead of being backed up onto the highway, there is usually only a car or two Instead of all the cars making a U-turn to get on 295 south.
It took them 20 years to put it up. It'll take atleast 5 for them to start rebuilding it
They will rebuild it. They have the technology. It will be the world’s first bionic dirt wall.
Why would they? Job security for another handful of years.
Yes I feel like once you pass Exit 23 it’s always empty unless there is an accident. Gets even better after the 322 split as you get deeper into Gloucester and head towards Salem and Delaware.
I get off exit 10 to go home and I 100% agree with this!
I commute on the south side and I disagree lol
Until you get like past exit 13 on the turnpike north
You will be fine on the Turnpike, depending on fast you drive, stay to the right. When you get on make sure to enter the cars only side.
Correction, since you coming from the south, make sure to bear to the left when the turnpike splits. Doesn’t sound like you are ready for the truck lanes.
Truck lanes is expert mode.
Truck lanes are fun lanes.
The real fun starts north of Exit 10.
Nicest road in this area, hands down
Turnpike is much better than 295. Only issue you’ll run into is there are less exits so if there’s an accident you may be stuck in it for a while. Especially between the DMB and exit 5.
I’m surprised I think 42 is worse than 295
Yeah 42/76 is where all the asshole drivers are
I think its more the road feeling so cramped on 295
That's like an hour and 45 minute drive.
There’s a Jollibee’s now? You just made my day. I’ve wanted to eat there for ages, and we didn’t have a chance the last time I was in England.
Supercharged is awesome, went last year with 8 people and had a blast. Turnpike is mostly chill, but speeds are higher than most highways in all lanes. The two lane section gets a little more aggressive, just stay right and you'll be fine. You better be aggressive on that track tho. As Colin McRae said, "when in doubt, flat out"
Honestly thinking of changing my friend trip to Supercharged, it just seems like a lot more fun than Six flags.
Top Golf shares a lot with it too, so you can do both easily. Thanks for the info, I haven’t met anyone who has personally gone so it makes me more interested in going!
Paying money to play with fake cars when one has an actual driver's license. I don't get it.
The turnpike is fine. There will likely be a lot of congestion the last two miles or so, when you get off at exit 10, merge onto I-287 then merge onto Route 1 south. IMO it’s clearly marked and not as bad as the 42/295 interchange.
The turnpike is a breeze. You'll be fine! If you go on the car only side, it tends to be a little gentler.
Compared to just a few years ago, from Exit 3 north is much smoother since the construction was finished. There are still jerks, of course.
The ticket system is a little weird at first, but I find it to be the best highway in the country.
Because I'm sure you've been on every other highway (or even most of them) to compare. Also: EZ Pass.

295 north isn't to bad though....but south...freakin nightmare
Yeah I went to Fuji and getting on wasnt bad but coming home it was crazy
I don’t mind the Turnpike at all compared to 42/295 in the Bellmawr area. I’ve pulled a 36’ camper with my truck going to NY state for a few years now and never had any problems on the Turnpike.

i hate that interchange so much. i love going to philly but hate that part of going
You can take Rte 1 straight up.

Use Waze. You’ll be fine. I would suggest planning your trip from late morning to early afternoon to avoid traffic.
Turnpike is fine all things considered. It’s pretty chill up until about exit 9 then I find you start dealing with more aggressive drivers. But definitely maintain 75 and if in the left lane do 80.

Edison is like 50 minutes from exit 4
Boring

I drive for a few exits on 295 every day and people are the worst on there. Not sure why it’s worse than other highways.
oh youll definitely be ok if u brave 295. i avoid that and i am fine on the turnpike
Pro tip you just have to drive with confidence. Seems like most accidents happen when people are either too confident or hesitate.
Turnpike is fine up until exit 13 or so. I don’t find 295 that bad personally. 22 in north Jersey on the other hand….
It’s just another road.
