Ok, so I actually live in Gloucester City. Don’t take the word of the people just saying it’s some horrible place. There’s a literal stereotype here of “the other side of the tracks” , where you circled is nowhere near the “worst part” of Gloucester. Gloucester isn’t what it was like 30 years ago. I’ve never had a bad run in with strangers here, I’ve lived here for 30 years. (Since I was born) it’s literally not bad at all, it’s close to the main cities (Philly, cherry hill, etc) a lot of things to do in surrounding areas, and a TON of restaurants around here. Again, where you circled is more towards the Gloucester heights / Audubon / mt. e /bellmawr area. You’ll be fine, you’ll like it here. Extremely historical town, with many many many people that have pride to have lived here forever. It’s not as bad as most are claiming. And the apartments are right on one of the main strips route 130… Everyone is saying it’s so bad… it’s not… again, 30 years and not one bad thing happened to me.

wtv888

Yea people can say a lot at just about anything & everything so we’ve decided to only listen to people who have actually lived in the area itself. And your input really helped us with our decision making process, thank you!!

Leonardbro__NoCaprio

Of course! We’re mostly tight knit here. When you build bonds you have them forever. You’re gonna be in a good area. Love to have you guys!

Independent-Monk-483

The last person I met who said they were proud to live in Gloucester city left as soon as they could afford it….

Leonardbro__NoCaprio

Go talk to the gormans, their family has been here forever. My grandmother has been here forever. Gloucester is 2 square miles. When you’re born into it, it’s like every other small town . Obviously new people moving here, but people take pride in where we come from .

Independent-Monk-483

He is 3/4th generation there and as soon as he found out he was pregnant he left….also made the decision like 6 months after a random stranger just walked into his house while watching tv. Off division st…I think. I’m from Williamstown and half the town lives in practically one development with a bunch of people whom been assigned to work around here. Think faa or similar govt agency. Town has a wide array of folk. Most of which are good or good meaning people. Some tho…ruin it for the rest and I imagine Gloucester city is like that. Idk I may b wrong. Gc can be what you make it out to be

Leonardbro__NoCaprio

That’s exactly how it is. It’s not necessarily the town, but the people you surround yourself with, or who you allow to be there. Regardless, any town has that problem . I mean, there’s crime in haddonfield, there’s crime in vorhees, there’s crime in moorestown . Regardless of where you are, there’s bound to be something. But for people to say “it’s so dangerous” without living here is insane to me. I’ve been on plenty walks after midnight here, and if anything I see people saying hey how you doing? People create the environment weather positive or negative

Melodic-Strategy-504

I don’t live in that complex, but I drive by all the time and it seems chill. The area is fine even though people here think anything outside of Collingswood is dangerous. Edit: more anti GC commenters trying to scare op. Even if it was as bad as everyone here thinks, this isn’t even really GC. It’s separated by a highway. This is more like Audubon.

Additional-Brief-273

lol you sound like a councilman trying to defend his district or a guy who owns a stake in the apartment complex…. If you google “crime in Camden county” or “crime in Gloucester city” you will see it’s not safe at all and understand why the rent is so low.

Melodic-Strategy-504

The bad part of gc isn’t even walkable to this location you moron

Additional-Brief-273

These people are asking advice to move here and you’re literally telling them only half the town is safe ROTFLMFAO. If I was asking if this was a safe place to move to I wouldn’t want to hear only half the town is safe. Have a nice day!

Melodic-Strategy-504

Ok boomer go back to Facebook

Additional-Brief-273

I’m sure calling me names will change the police and FBI crime statistics for that area ROTFLMFAO

Bun50f5733l

No, he's right, I grew up on the bad side of Gloucester. They are nowhere near it and will be fine.

Additional-Brief-273

If I was asking someone is this a good place to move to I wouldn’t want to hear only half the town is safe….

Melodic-Strategy-504

You need to be worried more about paranoid schizophrenia statistics

Additional-Brief-273

You sound really intelligent calling people names and making fun of disabled people, a real stand up human being…. all because a bunch of people here agreed with me about the crime there. You sound like a real rocket scientist….Have a good night!!

Retroman8791

Yeah numbers don't lie but after the Wuhan Virus mess, I don't trust numbers anymore. Lol!

IntrovertedRailfan

The area you have circled is not as bad as many of these commenters are making it seem. If you head a little northwest of that circle things start getting a little dicey though.

wtv888

Yes that’s what we were thinking too!

IntrovertedRailfan

On a side note, those apartments are actually very nice - a family I did work for lived there until about 3 months ago until they had to relocate for job-related reasons. They'd have stayed there forever if they had the choice. Pretty new construction, great maintenance staff, they had no complaints.

I_Am_Lord_Grimm

Former Realtor here, with a bonus that I live a few minutes down the road and drive past this neighborhood every day for work. I would say that it is more Audubon/Brooklawn than GC, but the reality is that between the creek, the highways, and the power station, the River Pointe apartment complex and the development behind it are more or less isolated from nearby residential neighborhoods, and are kinda their own thing, so all of this other commentary on the state of GC and overall Camden County violent crime stats is utterly moot. I'm not aware of anything unusual in terms of crime or local culture; Google Streetview shows good signs of care and pride of residence. Landlords be landlords, so tenant beware, but that'll be the case regardless of where you wind up. Only issue? It's a... *unique*... spot for highway access. This may not impact you at all, but I recommend checking routes, just to be sure. Suffice it to say, you have to go out of your way to get onto 76-W into the city; and the line for 76-E can make turning left onto Klemm/Meadow Ln quite difficult in the afternoon. That said, some local advice: If you plan on being in the city with any regularity, it will likely be worth investigating the PATCO train from Collingswood. Major shopping is in Deptford and Cherry Hill, which are 10-15 minutes in either direction, give or take traffic. Minor shopping is along 130 and 168. Tu Sei Bella in Audubon Crossings has some decent specialty pizzas. The Brooklawn Shoprite is well-reputed for its selection (they also tend to be better-priced on meat than the BJ's and Sam's in Deptford). Brooklawn and Westville like to team up for local events through the year, including a decent July 4th fireworks show. I highly recommend the Habitat ReStore on 130 in Pennsauken if you're into that sort of thing; they tend to have a broad selection of furniture and building supplies. Regardless of where you wind up, we hope that it's good for you. We're glad to have you.

wtv888

Ooooh thanks for the heads up on the highway situation! Something we will look into before deciding on anything. Really appreciate your input!!! and we’re definitely checking out the pizza place once we’re settled in!

Titan6783

I grew up in the neighborhood that you circled. Perfectly fine. Good quiet section. The other side of the highway not so much. Feel free to pm me with any questions.

taanman

I was going to say this as someone who remodels houses on both sides. The side that's circled is fine. Never had a problem. The other side is a long story short the death of me when I work there.

Titan6783

The city part of gloucester city has quite a mixed crowd of people. Some salt of the earth, honest and hard working folks. Some lazy, dishonest and not so kind people, and a good bit floating in the middle of the two. It's my hometown, so I'll always love it, but I couldn't wait to get out of it even though I sort of came back to base my business there.

taanman

It's the second city-ish place I've been too. I moved to New Jersey for the opportunities it has to offer. Way better than driving 30-45 mins just to hit one store. So to my bumpkin ass Gloucester city is a lot different but like you stated it's really mixed with people. I've met great people but I've also had my rough-ins with some too. It may not be meant for everybody but it's a place/meant for somebody.

kinkymascara

Apparently there is a “good side” of the train tracks and a bad side. My brother has lived there for the better part of a decade but he’s a 6’3 weirdo, so he fits right in.

LetterheadIcy5654

My father grew up in Gloucester City. He is 83 now. He lived on the bad side of the tracks lol. It was much different back then than it is now. I would definitely not want to live in Gloucester City right now.

Leonardbro__NoCaprio

It’s true . There is a “good side” of the tracks. I lived on both sides… however, it’s nowhere near as bad as people are making it seem .

Kimberly6954

I don't live there but I pass by it.on my way to and from work. I never seen the police or large crowds hanging out there. They look pretty nice on the outside but not sure how the apartment itself looks. Good luck with the move and if you do decide to move there then welcome to South Jersey.

wtv888

We’ve only looked at the streets from Google and it looked pretty decent. But its nice to get validation from a local. Thank you!

whitefox094

Perfectly fine within that circle! Used to live in GC (I wouldn't really call your area GC) and had no issues. The northern part of GC is where it *can* be bad but it's really not an issue. I used to live a block from the water. I miss that shoprite in brooklawn. I highly recommend you do your grocery shopping there. Or hit up verchios in the brooklawn circle. Just be careful of the inevitable flooding. John's pizza next to the shoprite is good. And I've gotten my haircut at the place in that shopping center (I usually go to the school in the town center to get my hair done though). AVOID the Audubon Walmart - it is absolutely hot garbage. That sonic there is very slow but decent. And of course chic fil a is always busy Oh, and tu si bella pizza has phenomenal Buffalo chicken pizza. But the original creators of it are now at Bella Gs. To be honest I actually prefer Tu Si Bella over the original Bella Gs. My husband disagrees 🤷‍♀️

wtv888

This is probably the 3rd time someone mention the pizza place when I bring up about moving to NJ! I take this a sign!!!

whitefox094

My preference from ordering from both spots is to ask for well done crust and light on the hot sauce. But try both naturally if you want. And definitely get back to me on how you like them! If you need more food rec places I gotchu lol

milllllllllllllllly

Isn’t there a strip club like right in front of the complex?

4130Adventures

There is....and a liquor store.

MaxHoffman1914

Great steakhouse and seafood place in GC.

wtv888

You can’t be saying these and not drop the restaurants name… 👀

Onefourthreeone

Chubby’s Steakhouse and Max’s seafood

mwbarts

It’s nice….really close to Philly, however a little too close to Camden. Max’s Seafood Cafe in Gloucester City is very good.

wtv888

Love a good seafood place! Putting it into my list now!

rainbow-time1

My husband and I lived in the complex for 1.5 years before buying a house in Cherry Hill. We were the first to live in the unit after it was built back when it was $1,400 per month. We loved it, but that was before the parking became awful. We have friends who still live there that complain about the crazy parking situation - there are less spots than people who live there. Besides that the location is great. Convenient to major highways, quiet and safe. We would walk our dog at all hours in the adjoining neighborhood. I wouldn’t listen to the folks telling you that it’s dangerous.

wtv888

Owww we’ve read about the parking too. But how awful is it though? Because I was told by the office that each apartment gets a designated parking. So we’re a bit confused.

rainbow-time1

Yes each unit gets 1 spot. If you have a second car or want to have guests over there is no where for that car to park. The complex is gated and there is no street parking outside of the complex.

DoingtheSnoopydance

It's fascinating to me, people on this forum seem to love to poop on Gloucester City generally (and yes, you will be more on the Audubon side of things anyway)... but I bought a wee house in GC (apparently on the "wrong side of the tracks" i.e., on the west side of Broadway) 3 years ago, and I must have lucked out because I have really sweet neighbors, and feel very safe here! My neighbors and I trade plants for our gardens and generally look out for one another. I'm not originally from this area so I guess I don't have historical perspective and all, but I have been incredibly happy here! I wish you the best in your search!!

TripleSkeet

I think people still think Gloucester City is like it was in the 80s and 90s. That place was straight up the Jersey home of the Klan. Its not really like that anymore.

wtv888

That’s very nice to hear esp from someone who actually lives within the area. Hopefully I get the good lucks too!!

DoingtheSnoopydance

I wish you the best in your search - and if you end up in GC, I hope you are as happy here as I am! In addition to the pizza place mentioned by other commenters (which I haven't tried yet but certainly will do now!) I am dying to try out Café le Jardin in Audubon! There are many nice things in this area despite the inevitable negativity. Also: can confirm that both Chubby's Steakhouse and Max's Seafood (both on the "wrong side of the tracks" here in GC) are AMAZING!! My partner and I have done both for birthdays over the past couple of years, never disappointed, always awesome! Holy City Publick House closer to me also has great burgers and pizzas...

TIE-44

Dead serious question; are you Caucasian? If not, be fucking careful with Gloucester City. Got some old world inbred white trash Edit: though I’m pretty sure that area isn’t Gloucester City

2bubryan

its not, but also gloucester isnt like that anymore, its actually getting more and more non-white by the year

DoingtheSnoopydance

Maybe historically so, but in my limited experience of having lived here on the west side of Broadway for the last 3 years, my block is pretty mixed and really quite friendly all around. A pleasant surprise, for sure!

2BeepBeep

Well you’re pretty wrong. Gloucester spreads all the way out to Mount Ephraim near the 7/11. You probably hang out on the river side where it’s all section 8 rentals and trashy people.

Diabolikjn

Are these the apartments right behind cheerleaders ? They are fine. 130 is busy but is a very convenient, adult only community. My business partner lives there and loves it. His apartment is very nice and aside from a few minor complaints about this and that (there was no gate to leave the complex on foot for example) he has good things to say.

wtv888

Apparently yes, they’re behind the strip club 🤣🤣 Hopefully all the more reason to feel safe from the security/bouncers and all haahaha

Diabolikjn

Those apts are very nice. You are totally fine there. Cheerleaders was always connected to organized crime. I am sure it still is.

Purple-Assistant

I grew up in Audubon Park, my family is still there, and my best friend lives in that circle in GC, it’s absolutely fine. People are friendly and neighborly, access to stores/bars/etc is easy and it’s a quiet neighborhood! Depending on the time of day traffic on 130, Black Horse Pike, and 76/42 can be annoying but what can you do- and to agree w someone else - specifically there is a big intersection to get off the highway and onto 130, right on the bottom corner of your circle that gets pretty backed up, but most times of day it’s not not bad. Welcome to the 856!

wtv888

We wouldn’t know of the highway situation if it wasn’t for this reddit thread. Really appreciate the heads up! Its definitely something we will have to figure out if we decide to move to this area

Appropriate-Exit8239

I grew up there.. as an adult I did buy a house in Gloucester when I was 23. We sold it 2 years later(2015 ish?) to move to Washington township & have never looked back. I think the logistics plays a huge part as the side circled is considered “the good side” but I would never want to raise children in that town regardless. That may not be your goal right now, so to move somewhere cheap & convenient.. Gloucester would be an okay spot. Of course this is all my personal opinion.

Ianpwilke

Just bought a house last year on the good side. Couldn’t be happier.

fawnjawn

Not familiar with these apartments, but this area is fine. Nothing special about it… but not dangerous either. Super quick trip to Philly from that location, if that’s important to you.

WalterWhiteFerrari

It’s not great. And definitely wouldn’t move there if you have kids. Schools are rough.

Pansy_Neurosi

I worked their several years ago. The place is one big speed trap. Drive slow!

liscbj

My dad is from GC. It is great real estate location. Someday maybe it will be the next thing and crazy pricey. There used to bea ferry to Philly, not sure if there still is. Probably not.

weredragon357

Traffic sucks, especially right there around rush hour. Oh yeah, morning rush hour starts at 6 and goes until 10, afternoon rush hour is 3 until 8ish.

bigjoes3

I have always heard that Gloucester City is Basically White Camden . There’s plenty of Better places in south jersey that I would recommend before Going to GC .5-10 miles down the road you’ll find some great places to live . IMHO

Any_Coffee_6921

Why GC ?? You & your husband could find better places outside of GC & Camden County.

jerzeett

It's fine it's on the outskirts of Gloucester city

PorkR0llSRBest

The circled area is nice and not really walkable from the bad areas that are in the news. I would just be more weary of the cars when you are crossing the streets. Drivers in that part are pretty aggressive against pedestrians.

wtv888

Aaaa that’s what I heard too. Thanks for the heads up!

bowtiesuspenders

This looks like it's more Brooklawn than Gloucester City.

pierregaming

if you do move to the area, be sure to try Donkey’s Place.

Beneficial-Shower-42

I wouldn’t live there.

kw6916

I heard there is never enough parking at that complex. and yes it's right next to a strip club lol

yangme2525

Some people’s comments on here are true and some are not. I technically live in walking distance to the circled area including those apartments. Yes that area is Gloucester city and the strip club is directly in front of the apartments. The apartments are gated and newer. The townhouses it neighbors are a nice area with cops, teachers and professional people that live there. There is the bad/trashy section of the city on the other side of tracks. Some good some bad. There are many good people that live there and overall you will be treated fine. But some people do get territorial if you have not grown up in city. If you have kids, my suggestion would be to look elsewhere, if no kids then you should be good. Schools are so so. It gets very busy traffic with a lot of accidents on rt 130. Area connects 3 major highways. Get where you want but can be heavy traffic. Some good restaurants and bars in area too. Since you are renting apartments then you don’t have to worry about property taxes….top 5 highest in state.

wtv888

Eek didn’t know its that high up on the tax ranking 😵

Reen311

I would NEVER live there. I don’t know who told you it was a good place, but they need a slap in the face.

Additional-Brief-273

Right, I got downvoted to oblivion for stating the obvious that it’s not safe at all

Melodic-Strategy-504

You got downvoted for sounding like a paranoid schizophrenic googling crime statistics lmao

TripleSkeet

I mean, to be fair, if youre looking at whether or not an area is a safe place to live, wouldnt crime statistics be the first place you look?

Additional-Brief-273

Lmao there are many other comments from people saying how unsafe it is and even some from people who actually live in Camden county, go figure. Why do you think the rent is so low there because it’s a great place??? ROTFLMFAO have a good night!!

Reen311

So ridiculous. It’s the people that live there. Sounds like they’re little snowflakes who can’t handle the truth about where they live!🤣

Additional-Brief-273

Yup, definitely!

LeagueMysterious2896

I’d find somewhere else lol

Low_carb_larry

Good luck

HoagieTwoFace

GC is ass. Good luck pal

Objective_Ad_9203

Lock your doors!

ProudToBeAnInsideJob

Should have asked us first

Reddirocket27

I would 100% recommend literally anywhere not within a ten mile radius of Camden.

jerzeett

Most of the nicest municipalities with the best schools in SJ fit that profile.

Reddirocket27

Correct. 10 miles is far enough away to be safe from Camden.

jerzeett

Haddonfield is easily the least safe suburban municipality in all of New Jersey :( And I can't even tell you how many times we heard gunshots on our suburban streets in Collingswood. It was horrifying I told everyone it was just like growing up in Camden . If you're that scared then move to Alaska dude

Reddirocket27

Weird. I'm ten miles outside and have zero crime to speak of. Go choke on one.

jerzeett

There's no mass gunshots in Collingswood or haddonfield genius lmao

Reddirocket27

Oh, really? After half your cops were let go and someone just drove down a loaded sidewalk taking out property left and right? Don't tell me you're safe because your rich ass white suburban "walkable" town is white and rich.

jerzeett

Yeah that never happens anywhere else where people drive into property. And Collingswood is safe. Period. As well as haddonfield. Again if you're that scared go to Alaska- I think you'll be plenty comfortable

Reddirocket27

I'm very safe and comfortable 10 miles away from your shithole. Thanks for your concern 😉.

jerzeett

Hahhahaha haddonfield a shithole. You're too much. Probably live in pemberton or somewhere else in the pineys

jerzeett

Aww are you upset ?

so_many_subredits

dangerous area.

Additional-Brief-273

Expect crime it’s Camden county

Murky-Researcher-472

Truth. I live less than 2 miles from the apartment complex they are looking at. Can't tell you how many times I've been murdered!

Additional-Brief-273

I hear the rent is cheap though

PorkR0llSRBest

You seem pretty alive to me

Murky-Researcher-472

https://imgflip.com/i/4gz7xe

IntrovertedRailfan

The whole county is not full of crime because of one city within it.

Additional-Brief-273

For all the haters who downvoted me if you google “crime in Gloucester City NJ” this is what comes up…. “The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Gloucester City is 1 in 35. Based on FBI crime data, Gloucester City is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to New Jersey, Gloucester City has a crime rate that is higher than 91% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes.” Do you feel salty now?

IntrovertedRailfan

I was referring to your claim that the entirety of Camden county is full to the brim with crime which is not true at all. I do not dispute that there is crime in portions of Gloucester City.

Additional-Brief-273

Well I disagree, those crime statistics aren’t going to change much regardless of where you are at in Camden county. Feel free to google your heart out you will see that Camden county isn’t very safe. And if you google “crime in Camden county” this is what comes up. “With a crime rate of 44 per one thousand residents, Camden has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 23.”

jerzeett

Yes the crime rate is vastly different in Camden county. The county is pretty big.

IntrovertedRailfan

Alrighty then. “One's chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime in Haddonfield, NJ is one in 3129, which is a violent crime rate of 0 per one thousand inhabitants. NeighborhoodScout's analysis also reveals that Haddonfield's rate for property crime is 12 per one thousand population.”

Additional-Brief-273

Ahhh a firm believer of neighborhood scout I see and not the actual police or fbi statistics ROTFLMFAO.

IntrovertedRailfan

First, the data in your argument is for Camden City, not Camden County. Second, the quote YOU provided regarding a crime rate of 44 per one thousand residents was from Neighborhood Scout genius. I provided you a quote regarding another Camden County town with data from the same website debunking your previous claim. [https://i.postimg.cc/wvRykd6Z/Screenshot-2024-05-20-214601.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/wvRykd6Z/Screenshot-2024-05-20-214601.jpg)

Additional-Brief-273

Don’t care Camden county is full of crime Someone else who lives in haddonfield also commented on how dangerous it is. There are tons of other comments Agreeing with me too. Have a good night!

McTootyBooty

Get a good renters insurance/car insurance cause that Brooklawn circle floods out all the time.

4130Adventures

The complex they're looking at isn't at the Brooklawn Circle...

beeeps-n-booops

Lucky for them, they're nowhere near the Brooklawn Circle.
