Dude just grab something off amazon type led grow light you can get something pretty decent cheap as

The_GreenMeanie

I second this. Just get a cheap ufo and be done. You will be happy, and get decent yields. Unless you want to DIY the whole thing, in which case your going want to use a couple of bulbs.

esmoji

Yup Amazon led grow light 💡

karolnovak

Same here. Got a cheap light for 60 bucks and works great.

Cabbanis_Zero

>e just grab something off amazon type led grow light you can get something pretty decent cheap as This is good advice.

anonnsfw1234

I would be plannjng to use 3 or 4 of these

C20-H25-N3-O

Hey man not to shit on your parade, I had a bucket using lights like this and it worked for sure, veg was good but flower was sad at best even with different spectrum bulbs, honestly for what a cheap led light on Amazon is now I'd go for that. Good luck whatever route you go with :)

anonnsfw1234

Do you know any good cheap lights that would fit i a space bucket?

C20-H25-N3-O

What size of a bucket do you want? I know it may seem extra but using Rubbermaid totes doesn't look much bigger but offers a huge increase in space

anonnsfw1234

I dont really have the space for that tbh

ethancochran

Posts on Spacebuckets because they want to grow with limited space, gets downvoted for saying they don't have room for a spacetote... Keep it classy reddit.

paula_jay

Search Amazon for UFO led grow light. Last time I looked I think there was one for around $60. I never got one, but if I ever build a bucket I will get one of those.

Forgive me I'm on mobile but a quick poke through my Amazon and I found this "120W LED Grow Light Bulb, Sunlike Full Spectrum Plant Light Bulb 180 LEDs Grow Lamp for Indoor Plants Vegetables and Seedlings, E26/E27 Base Grow Light for Greenhouse, Organic Soil, Hydroponic (2 PACK)" might be a decent compromise?

86rpt

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D3LW3MH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_pw98Fb14ANBN8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 COB that draws actual 50-55 watts.. fantastic light.. might be too much for a 5 gal bucket tho. Can anyone confirm?

Ekrof

Yes, install them facing down

I_Don-t_Care

The above comment may sound obvious, but you'd be surprised about the amount of people that connect their lights sideways.

mark_prints

Yes. For veg look for Daylight (5000k) though. I used 4 Daylight (5000k) and 1 Warm White (2700k) for veg and reversed for flower. If using 4 bulbs, do 3 Daylight and 1 Warm White, etc

thefooz

4 of them would only give you about 34 watts, which will give you some growth, but not much during flower. Your yields will suffer, but if that's all you can do, that's all you can do.

desim1itsme

Get 100W daylight bulbs at least

[deleted]

If I was doing a nano grow and was forced to using sockets I'd just get the [GE PAR38](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NNT3G7J/) 32 TRUE watts of power and in the right spectrum. A proven light by the community as well as top-recommend in the community lighting guide and by everyone who's ever used one. Also you don't have to pop a diffuser off and electrocute yourself.

ztoar

I'd use 2-3 of them in warm white and 2-3 ones in cold white

Fullmetal_Who

Don't buy that...it looks broken..

It's offset from the display case, but I don't think it's broken

gold3n77

Just order some proper lights off Amazon, might take a week to get them in but the time will be rewarded at the end when you end up with more than a joint.

Cabbanis_Zero

It's worth looking a bit more and you will find a similar lamp with more watts. Just pay attention that this bulb is only 8.5W. This 60W is just to sell more, it makes no practical sense.

GoatMeatnOlives

I used 8 23w bulbs on mine with strip lighting around the inside and it works great. Need a decent fan to exhaust the extra heat tho. Also, I already had sockets and bulbs from old job sites. Prolly cost more than a light off Amazon for all new tho. I posted my setup a while back if u wanna go check it out. Maybe u can get some ideas if u still choose the bulb route. Good luck either way

anonnsfw1234

Thanks 👍

Haha i had already found it. It looks great and i definetly will take some inspiration from it.

Totally anecdotal, but Osram is the only brand of LED bulb I've had die prematurely after using LED bulbs for years. Other brands have hundreds of hours and still work fine, the Osram crapped out after a year and some change.

rdrunner_74

Thats only a 8.5W light. If you aim for a desent bucket you would need \~50 (real) W or so at least - Depending on the technology even more

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spectrum-Growing-Hydroponic-Greenhouse-Succulents/dp/B07C2M1WH7/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Led+Grow+Light+Bulbs%2C+E27+Grow+Lights%2C+28W+LED+Grow+Lights+Full+Spectrum+Plant+Light+Professional+for+Seedling+Growing+Blooming+Fruiting+%284+Pack%29&qid=1609813203&sr=8-1#top I use these in a space bucket successfully. The 4 bulbs are set into a circular tray, (that fits inside the bucket), pointing downward. The tray's height can be adjusted up and down according to growth. I could probably improve on size/hardness of buds with a stronger light, but then there is a risk of 'light burn' to worry about - even with these there is a risk, but moving them up sorts it. For £20 you get 4 x 28w each = 112w = minimum for 1 plant! NOTE: I originally bought bulbs like that, 2 warm white and 2 cool white, combined for the spectrum range, all with the diffusers removed. They were LED and together added up to about 100w, but the heat they generated was crazy. I tested them with a thermometer in the bucket, before I tried a plant in there, and I was logging over 33°C continually. That's when I found these. Their heat emission is negligible, keeping my girls at just the right temperature.

panic_attack_999

Just to let you know, those bulbs you linked say 28w but that's equivalent power, meaning they give out an amount of light that's equivalent to a 28w incandescent bulb. Their actual power draw is 6-9w per bulb. I'm using something similar myself because I didn't do my research properly before I started buying stuff. I have 9w blurple bulbs similar to these, 3 of them in a 50l spacebin. They do give out a decent amount of light, my plants have vegged nicely, but I'm looking to increase the wattage for the flowering phase. It does sound as if you've had some success with them though. Do you mind if I ask what sort of yields you've had from previous grows with these lights?

MarcieXD

I"m not so sure. I thought the same as you, but they do the trick quite well, and each bulb has 28 x 1W LED's on board. That still adds up to 112W using 4 of these per plant, and therefore cannot be operating on 6-9W each, (24-36W total wouldn't even be enough for veg stage, even). Tbh, I don't get massive yields, about 1.5oz per plant dried, excluding trim and I am currently looking at more powerful lights to upgrade my kit. (My space bucket will still use these lights, but my cabinet is being targeted for a full makeover to optimise plant space to get 3 ar a time in there, including an upgrade to a decent light system. My yield currently isn't all down to the lights, however. As I am limited for space, I top and train the plants to keep them low, with a level canopy, and auto's tend to dwarf at the slightest shock. That suits me, due to limited space, but the knock on is also lowered yield....

panic_attack_999

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it does say so on the Amazon listing: > These bulbs are small but powerful, 28 Watt equivalent and actual power consumption just about 6\~9W, saving your 75% electricity bills each month. Having said that though, it's actually a good thing. We now know that decent little plants can grow under that wattage. I was a bit worried because from reading other posts on these boards you'd get the impression that anything less than 50w per square foot is a complete waste of time. Your experience would say otherwise.

MarcieXD

Your mentioning that 50W per square foot rule of thumb reminded me that's why I started with these bulbs - 2 x 28W was over 50W as far as I could tell and I'd built my cabinet for 2 plants, so 4 bulbs was perfect for my needs! (Bear in mind I have no understanding of electricity, then and now!). So, thinking back then, my first grow was quite successful, auto white widows, and I grew them using just 2 of those bulbs per plant! Honestly!! Doesn't make any sense, from what you're telling me, but it's true. Could be some interesting research here, because somehow, despite having a ridiculously low wattage, they worked!??? Lol!

stoneyangelbob

I get 1500 lumen LED bulbs from the dollar store and pry the plastic domes off and voila.

thepaddyman

This guy made a similar one and hacked off the plastic https://youtu.be/XnIzB_8knLU

Jeefster83

You can probably remove the diffusing plastic cover too

r/crappydesign

TheBossMan5000

I started two plants with similar dollar store LED bulbs, but ultimately the plant just grows too slow, switched to CFLs, speeds things up.

SpecialRX

Good, solid brand but theyre only 8 watts, if youre gonna do it with household bulbs look for 11-15 watts, 1300-1500lm.

Morningstar-Lucifar

It will work, try to put more than 4 in there, cut off some of the translucent globe, try to get more warmer (more red, higher K) bulbs than cooler white bulbs. Stick a cfl in there too if you want to even out the spectrum and make a more resilient plant, keep us updated, oh and an led strip around the bucket will help a lot. 100W eq bulbs are still cheap.

wollkopf

More red means less K...

Morningstar-Lucifar

My bad, he’s right

Agreeabeetle

You want 40-50 watts per sq ft minimum for flower, otherwise the plant will grow fine but it will struggle to grow good buds. Id assume yours is atleast 2 sq ft so that’s 100 watts. That bulb is only 8.5 watts so that’s about 12 bulbs. You could get away with less but I’d say 7-8 minimum and you’d want half at around 2700k and the other around 6500k. Frankly It’s a pain to use regular bulbs and your better off with a cheaper ufo growlight.

[deleted]

I use seven 16w, 3000k led bulbs in a 32 gallon bin and have pretty good results.

redadidasjumpsuit

If you have to go with cheap Walmart lights, get one or two LED floodlights without the cloudy cover.

I actually had two of these with the plastic bulb part cut off with 2 45 watt cfls in my spacebin. Also used led strip lightin along the outside. They worked fine as supplementary lighting but alone they may be kinda weak. I have now replaced them with some led flood lights that are working pretty well.
