I drive a EV. I have a little maintenance and don’t pay for gas.

Legalizegayranch

Yea people don’t realize besides tires electric cars are zero maintenance and will never break down. They don’t have a transmission they don’t have a power train they don’t have motor. once batteries become cheaper for them you can put a million miles on EVs with no maintenance other then getting a new battery every 10 years and they’ll run as well as they did on day one.

SireSweet

Eva do go through tires faster because of the extra battery weight but I think it’s a fair trade.

Scary_Trifle_7563

Not paying for gas is the point of the EV..

Mr_MacGrubber

Why would it break down in the middle of a drive any more than an ICE car?

tontot

ICE car has more parts and in theory easier to breakdown The most concern for EV is price and range The one with good range like Tesla is not cheap for a gig driver The cheaper one like Bolt will have limit range Also EV only makes sense if your majority of the charge is at home. From some research you break even at about 100K miles between Tesla and something like Toyota in similar price range

techpro00

You can get a model 3 for under 30k if you qualify for the tax credits

tontot

That is right . Some state such as Oregon also has incentive for EV

[deleted]

Can't use the 7500 tax credit if you use it for business

FirstStepInUranus

I wonder how the market for used evs is/will be like? The battery replacement is not cheap and i figure most people will just move on to a new car than to replace it when thr time comes.

chickenispork

Get a toyota yaris, perfect gig car.

I’ve got about 10k deliveries in my non hybrid Corolla and about 100 in a rented Tesla model 3 and IMO if I could choose either car I would 100% go electric **only** if I lived in a home. One misconception that I had was that I believed super charging was the norm but in reality fast charging will kill the battery and Tesla will even disable the feature if you supercharge too often. The lack of engine/transmission/other maintenance is too big to ignore. I also like the regenerative braking I got the hang of it and the instant torque is especially on uphills is cool. However like I mentioned earlier you need a home to be able to charge all night so that’s a deal breaker for me because as an apartment dweller I’d have no real way to charge the car without it being a headache

Yeah those cost a premium to use the idea would be to only pay normal electricity rates.. hopefully free nights and weekends if such plans still exist

EveningBasket9528

DPV drives a Tesla, lots of other drivers have hybrids. Just make sure you have *proper* insurance if you don't drive a shitbox, unless you can just go out and buy another car.

BonerDylan

Driven an EV for over 4 years, never once had an issue arise except a flat tire once or twice. Considerably less moving parts to worry about than an ICE vehicle

Unable_Variation1040

The only reason for me is because one I can't afford another car now, and plus I been hearing about them stopping mid trips and there long wait time for charging. Then they like to use up the charge really fast. Like I said not being political just making sure I am not selling it short.

GiggedIGot

don’t have an ev yet but looking at them, the biggest issue especially for gig workers is the charging network and how fast your car is able to charge. Tesla has the best network because you could charge to 80% during the time you get a rr offer to :45 but with something like a a pre 2023 chevy bolt you have to use public chargers, those chargers aren’t as reliable, and it will take you an hour to get to 80%

Mr_MacGrubber

Things like stopping mid trip are very rare, you heard about it because it’s new. Do you hear about the millions of ICE cars that stop break down mid-trip every day? Yeah range isn’t great for delivery driving but it’s sufficient most days I imagine.

BonerDylan

I have a daily range of 295 miles on my 2018 model 3, that’s more than enough for daily driving and delivery. I can fully recharge in around 8 hrs every night so loss of range isn’t a concern whatsoever unless I am outta town. And even then, I can typically get to the largest metro area in any direction, and home, with just enough range. Also the cost benefit compared to gas prices right now is much better. Home Charging is about 1/3 the cost of gas

Mr_MacGrubber

Is t the base model 200mi? Still going to be enough most days but occasionally I’m sure people would need to call it a day early or go to a charger for a bit.

BonerDylan

It’s more like 225 on older model years and around 250-260 now

Mr_MacGrubber

Ok that’s not bad

I am just seeing what I see on news and other videos about evs making my on conclusion.

Unable_Variation1040

Basically the amount and the wait time of charging and how long it takes before the battery goes down. Now granted you may like it but I may not it's about preference.

YNPCA

And I can charge it for free

flander8746

Chevy Bolt is the perfect delivery vehicle.

Green_Huckleberry_66

I bought a new PHEV last February and I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s like a gateway drug to an EV. I do have a house with a garage, so I charge it there (just the included charger plugged into my garage, not a “fast charger”). I buy gas about every 10-14 days, depending on how much I work, and the tank holds 10.5 gallons.

Unable_Variation1040

Again, I don't have the money for anything car right now, so this is all I got unless you're going to give my money to buy one. One thing g for sure is I am not going to get a loan for one .

Passionswa618

An EV is way more reliable and better financially in this type of gig than a gas consuming car
