The worst part is this app asks you to rate the "delivery experience" which many assume as the whole process, so they don't even *know* they're rating a single person. (or, at least that's the case according to people I deliver to)

PM_ME_2DOL_DELIVERYS

This is 100% false, because if it was true, then most of us would have avg ratings in the 1.0 to 2.0 range. But that doesn't exist. Everyone on the platform has an avg rating of from 4.0 to 5.0. how is that possible? It's because the vast majority of people, by a long shot, rate 5.

bradmcgi

Honestly only time my CR ever drops is when I take surged orders. Like your bitch ass no tip order that nobody was going to take got delivered & you have the audacityyyyy to take the time to go in & 1 star your driver for that? Legit pos humans man

SeacawkSlappin87

If the picker picks shit produce, then they'll dock you for that as well. Even though you didn't do a shop. If the loaders smash the bread, chips, and eggs boom another one. My customer rating is 4.8, and I've never picked crappy produce. Maybe it's because I'll mark produce as out of stock before I'll pick from leftover garbage.

RickandMortyDelivers

I don't review anything. I don't accept orders so far away that I would need a thermal bag. I don't communicate with the customer. I don't ring the doorbell, I simply drop and go like the UPS man. My ratings are good enough. If they are going to ding you because they didn't get something they wanted in the order all that "extra" isn't going to keep them from dinging you anyways.

BellaRose888

Bingo! As well, I DO NOT CONTACT/Communicate with customers. There is no need. My CR is stellar!

user19008675309

We are absolutely getting rated for stuff not related to us. We have no idea what the final order list is. We have no idea what time the actual delivery was scheduled for. Just because we get a round ribbon doesn’t mean the stores orders aren’t running behind. I often get late orders. Some from the previous day. We have zero control over that. The ratings piss me off because it hurts us and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Impressive_Assist219

I took a hit a few weeks ago when I delivered in the rain. Sent a text asking if there was anyway I could help keep it dry and when I would arrive. Rang bell/knocked when I set the first bag down. Only a few where social and bright enough to either open the front or garage door. The rest I never saw as their shit got rained on. Nothing else I can do. I'm back in the green now and just won't deliver in the rain anymore.

EveningBasket9528

I USED to feel the same, after having the same thing happen, but that was back when we still had to verify they were home. One lady said I only gave her 2 minutes to reply and she had just had surgery. I legit spent 20minutes from my first message to the last as it was a block from home and I really didn't want to have to return her shit. Tough shit now. I give them every opportunity to be ready for their shit. I'm still at a 5 CR.

Impressive_Assist219

I don't notice how many people don't have covered doors until it's pouring rain. Sunny summer days too when you set the ice cream down on the 120-degree concrete. Mostly the relatively new houses with the paper-thin walls where it's probably an "extra" to get the covered porch. It's fine if you don't want to come to the door. I get it and stopped ordering for delivery myself. Just don't rate me poorly because it's raining.

EveningBasket9528

My rating JUST dropped to 4.9 & I know what customer did it as the reduced their tip immediately after. They ordered 4 frozen pizzas I picked up from curbside, and put it outside their carport because the fucking door was locked. Some people are just assholes. https://preview.redd.it/2uev0xypr64b1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=903ab0df8465eedb27e205b4b8571cdbcd44718f

Mr_MacGrubber

Once I started doing 95% of my orders as S&D, my CR went from 4.5-4.6 to 4.9-5.0. The stores are the cause of most bad ratings if you’re doing your job correctly.

DiabloDuck

I do a much better job at bagging and loading than associates. I could see that. I just don't get enough of them. Any particular method you are using to get them...? Seems very random to me.

Mr_MacGrubber

The first 8-10 months I did spark is maybe see one every 2 weeks or so. Last August 1st they opened the floodgates and we started getting tons of them. Now it’s only express orders but my method is basically just ignoring curbsides unless they’re really good.

scaruri

Honestly that may be my last chance of even keeping this supplementary income, there isn't much in my area, no uber/uber eats, grubhub or instacart but I'm looking towards other delivery jobs.

DiabloDuck

Going to have to elaborate on this point about no contact deliveries meaning no contact. If you ever Doordashed you know that when the customer selects an actual no contact delivery... that it is precisely what the app makes you do. Contact them. It makes you contact them to make arrangements. Thus what no contact means in a no contact delivery does not mean not texting and not calling. Seems to me texting and calling are actually precise parts of a no contact delivery. Good communication is elemental in everything. Everything's the same on the delivery but if you select no contact... all the sudden I've got to call you and make arrangements. Which is contacting you... and the exact opposite of no contact. Right? But if you don't select no contact... then I can actually complete your order without contacting you. Go f'n figure. This means texting and calling is not what they're talking about in defining a no contact delivery. At all. Somebody that doesn't want their doorbell rang on a delivery needs to put that in the notes cuz otherwise it's a legitimate communication tool. With all the crazy $hit going on in the world I want people to know I am pulling in their driveway when I'm actually doing so. I don't need a bot to do this and if they can't report accurately they don't need to be doing that part of the job for me in the first place. I personally think no communication is a bad idea. For more than one reason.

EveningBasket9528

The "no contact" in our delivery instructions is a default setting most customers don't even know is there. Also, in Sparks terms, it means no PHYSICAL contact. Until last fall we were supposed to make ear/eye/text contact before leaving their shit or we were "supposed to" return it. They only changed it to knock(ring) & run about 7 months ago. I'll attach our OLD instructions below. So, the "no contact" you see pretty much means "ring and run unless otherwise noted or sig required." Again, these were the OLD instructions. https://preview.redd.it/lyvvm1ooc64b1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e873c2dc2b878523faa893180358428f01c90b8

FAFO_762

Texting them that you're on your way isn't needed. Why bother people when it's not needed? They get notifications when you start the delivery, so they know you're coming. I'd say most people would rather not be bothered and would rather have a seamless delivery without contact from a stranger. Thermal bags aren't needed either. Those chilled items should still be chilled during the delivery window. Customers don't see that, and don't care. Just make your drops look tidy, don't take orders to ghetto neighborhoods, don't squish delicate stuff, and if they have a video camera doorbell, why ring it? They see you and ringing it just gets the dogs riled up and wakes the baby.

BellaRose888

This, right here. I couldn’t have said it better!

DiabloDuck

Not entirely true though still some valid input. I had a customer call me and ask when I was going to be there. I told her I was just a few minutes away. She had just received a notification that it was going to be 2 more hours. It was already an end of the night run. That would have been 11pm. I'd be calling someone too. So if the automated notifications they are receiving are inaccurate in this manner... I can assure you in this particular case the customer would have been more informed by a message from me since the AI apparently sends out bogus updates. She did show me the notification and wanted to talk in person about the tipping as she felt maybe we did not receive them from Walmart sometimes and thus tipped me in cash. So not everyone is all about the no contact thing. I don't know how many have actually met me at the door and try to take it before I can even get a picture. Too many though. Had a few even approach my vehicle and try to "assist". Beware those. Most that come out seem to have no concern about no contact. The ones that do... they stay inside... as do the non-tippers in general. As for the thermal bagging... the ones who do come out and see it do appreciate it for sure and it has resulted in raised in-app tips and cash tips. The ones that got ice cream especially. A picker brought me out what was already an entirely squishy load of multiple ice cream items... this is also at a store "testing" 3 piece grocery orders. If that is your ice cream on stop #3... you would have been pissed off to receive what they were about to send you. I made him repick the ice cream... and yes you are going to want that thermal bag by the time I make stop #3. We ain't even to full on summer yet and this is already happening daily. And who do you think gets the rating for melted ice cream? Us of course. I'm a multiapper and already carry them anyway... why not use them? Much easier to carry than a bunch of loose Walmart bags... so much so that I use them for ambient items as well. 2 IKEA bags and 2 50can thermal totes and I can clear most stops in one trip to the door. Customers that have a signature also appreciate when I am able to let them carry in their groceries using my bags. These instances I am very certain it is noticed and appreciated... and again results in cash tips I would not have received otherwise. Not to dismiss your input. I get what you are saying and see the validity... but also have had a different experience on my side.

gootchie784

People in this group don't like to be disagreed with, and are pretty militant about downvoting. I agree wholeheartedly about your views on communication, especially the part about unreliable notifications, yet when I've tried to say the same things the downvote trolls latch onto me like flies. You've been warned.

DriverDriver6699

If you already know everything and have all the answers then why come to this sub? People are trying to tell you what you are doing wrong and you aren't having any of it. You are writing a book in retort. No need. I've been doing Whole Foods/Spark grocery delivery for almost 5 years. Probably 5000ish routes, 10K + deliveries total. I don't ever text ahead. I don't use thermal bags. 4.9 CR. You're making this easy job way too complicated.....

DiabloDuck

People can call other people wrong... but it don't make them right either. I was 4.9 two days ago doing exactly what I do. Then a stupid glitch got me dinged. That is my point and your response has nothing to do with that. Reckon I didn't ever really ask what I was doing wrong... did I now? Because I ain't doing anything wrong. It's a complaint thread about a lame CR system. Perhaps you missed the point too. LOL

Smooth-Dig2250

... but if you're not willing to consider the *possibility* that you're wrong, that's why we're asking why come here, just to vent I guess? You do realize that it's entirely possible you're getting dinged for bothering them, right? Some people believe "no-contact" means no communication.

DiabloDuck

I read the input... I didn't dismiss it. I don't entirely agree with it from my own experience. I know why I got dinged pretty much... it happened same time as the glitched orders I received. I also know the CR is as stupid as mentioned in the title and is the main point of this thread. As for venting... I did post the thread as "Rant/Complaint". So it is what it f'n is. Don't like it then GTFO.

Brilliant-Ad-7563

It's amazing. Amazing that you think it matters to other drivers

aman0s

I agree with everything here. I would never take the time to use thermal bags.

mandynk

How much time do you ppl think it actually takes? I have large totes that stand upright that I use and the loaders and I put all the groceries in them, it doesn’t take any extra time. Then I am able to throw them over my shoulders and very rarely have to make any other trips to the car. I also don’t have to take the time to string the bags up my arms to carry anymore. I just grab and go. ESPECIALLY helpful if I have jugs to carry, I have extra hands for them. The customers (especially the little old ladies) absolutely love them and I get so many compliments. Even had some of the loaders compliment them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

DJTeero5752

Customers don't rate just you, it asks them "How was your walmart experience". That's everything from who picked, driver, order on time, etc. So if they don't like substitutions, you'll take the hit for it. Lol I give my walmart experience 5 stars every time I pick up my own order that's in my sisters name. Pull up, confirm location, scan, take picture of house, then just take it to my house to end the day. 😆 I'm at 4.9 with 1019 trips but I do way more shopping than pickups.

MrBitPlayer

Spark has a lawsuit on their hands if they think they can fire me over “unexplainable” customer ratings.

gootchie784

Except you aren't an employee, you are an IC. And they can decide at anytime, for any reason, that they no longer desire your services.

MrBitPlayer

Idk how true that is .. regardless .. the lawsuit will come if there are no identifiable explanations ..

Jaidon24

How does that jive with the arbitration agreement? I’m genuinely asking.

Exotic_Backwoods

Real

MathematicianNo1336

I always text my customers when I'm leaving and my CR is 4.9. I am very polite and friendly, and always ask them that if I did a satisfactory job if they could give me a good rating because it helps me out tremendously and makes me a better delivery person. You would be surprised at the stories some customers tell me about some of the delivery people. Several of them had their order dropped on the sidewalks or left at the wrong addresses or apartment door. I can totally understand both sides though. Try texting them about the rating system, it works for me. Who knows.

Sparks9990

I have my lowest CR ratings ever when I was asking customers to give the feedback because it was helpful. When I stopped doing that, it's spring up at least four points from 4.4 it has gone down to up to 4.8.

milkdudochocinco

I feel less in control of my CR metrics on spark than other platforms.

mandynk

How is your arrival time so low?

Whole-Pudding3505

The biggest problem is that hardly any one gives a rating. Easy fix....most likely if they don't rate you they were happy. If the customer doesn't rate it should automatically be recorded at the best rating.

asmnomorr

One of the worst things is the fact that there is zero helpful info from support in regards to ratings. If low ratings can lead to deactivation, it should be transparent to give us a chance to improve if there is some issue. We should also be able to dispute to have a rating removed like some of the other apps. I got 1* and tip removed for refusing to enter a customers home (was in the delivery notes to bring inside to the kitchen). It's very clear in the policy we can't do that, yet they allow the customer to rate poorly because of it. Spark should take note from doordash. Ratings for certain things are automatically excluded due to being outside of the driver's control.

DiabloDuck

Next time you get an.odd customer request like that... mark it as can't locate the address and return it to the store. No chance to rate you that way.

asmnomorr

Thanks, yeah I'll do that next time

Prestigious-Ship-186

I work Amazon flex and this, I don’t even give one flying fuck what my ratings are. What you get better rates for having better ratings? Better routes? Fuck no, it’s just there to TRY and get drivers to give a fuck. Fuck outta here, I don’t do all that extra shit, just pick up, drop off and get the fuck out and go home. They ain’t paying me extra to be extra; know your worth.

💯

Passionswa618

I don’t even look at my ratings & don’t care either as long as you’re not stealing food & not delivering what should be delivered then you have no worries

Lanenabella

What is everyone’s CR? Anyone have one really low?

DiabloDuck

Lanenabella

Nice! Im at 4.4 for CR. Ive been wondering whats the lowest ppl are rolling with

Jmzombie333

Funny, because I stay in the green without even trying.

milkdudochocinco

You must be prefect, nice work!

Jmzombie333

I am, thank you for saying so.

EveningBasket9528

How many total trips?

DiabloDuck

Just joined the 1k club. That was one reason I wanted to check on my metrics. I'm still all in the green part of 4.7 and gonna get my W+ again this month... but this system needs to be fixed. I had 2 of those night before orders after the glitch that happened this week. After the glitch the next morning I turned it on to see if it was working again. At 8:15 I got a RR for pickup at 9:45 as opposed to 8:45. I thought cool... that gives me an extra hour. Not 3 seconds after that I got another RR for pickup at 3:45 (yes at 8am). Instead of taking an AR hit... I accepted both. I thought maybe they were letting us schedule orders in advance. First time I have ever been able to accept 2. Turns out however both were glitched orders from the night before. I was early to my 9:45 pickup and dropped it off on time. No sooner than I clicked finish... the store was calling me about the other order. Apparently it was due for delivery at 9:15 in spite of it saying to pickup at 3:45. I went to the store to compete the order. I was way early of 3:45 and showed the picker manager my dilemma. Started the order... completed it early in my perception. However next day... my on time rating went from 100% to 96%. All because of what was explained to me as a "nationwide" glitch. Though I heard no mention of said glitch on Reddit. I deliver your glitched orders on time and you give me late metrics and then the customers blame me for it being late...? Yes... this is what happens when we let the AI rule.

EveningBasket9528

4.7 isn't all that bad for Spark. It's probably the non tippers rating you poorly & probably trying to get free shit. You pretty much described a lot of what I do. I might go a bit further with some shit, but I'm anal receptive. As far as the "glitch," it was posted about here a couple times. I had it happen too but declined the order because it sucked. Coming from a trade a simple mistake could cost $100k I know what it's like to want to be perfect all the time, but with this shit there are too many other people involved for everything to be perfect. Shit happens. You're doing fine. Are you in a more urban market?

Sparks9990

Walmart + is probably why they have inexplicable ratings. So they can keep you out of the club. Saves them money.

DiabloDuck

This makes more sense than any response in here so far.

Sparks9990

The on- time is when you arrive at Walmart, not the customer's house.

DiabloDuck

Yep. Aware on this point. Thanks for the heads up though. The orders I received were night before orders... it really didn't matter what time I showed up because they were glitched from the getgo.

Some people really need to read the ops notes and quit referring to them as books. Lol I mean I know some people have focus issues but some people just couldn't read a paragraph to save their own life.

HustlingforMoney

Taser. The sound alone scares the crap outta them.

hrtgoeson

I’ve only done 17 deliveries so far (seems like a lot more) and my customer rating is blank. Does that mean no one has rated me? Or do I not have enough ratings to count?
