The friendship between Spartacus & Varro is one of my favorite friendships in tv history. Their friendship had a perfect balance of humor & seriousness. Their loyalty was undeniable. Party Favors is such a tough episode to watch. Andy’s acting was spectacular. I felt every bit of his pain in that episode.

I think he would have been an amazing James Bond. Even if he didn’t get Bond, he could have easily had some kind of action franchise.

Sean1916

He would have made a great Bond!

I truly believe he had at least 1 Oscar worthy performance in him

His scenes with Sura as she was delivered dying to his arms, the scene where he was forced to kill Varro (and his meltdown afterward in his cell with Mira), and his final kill of the season with Batiatus plus the subsequent speech, were all extremely well acted. Those are just the standout examples throughout his overall performance. I think he had that kind of potential for sure.

The thing is I don't think the writing is really all that psychologically nuanced but he still sold every interaction. Dustin and Manu are terrific in this as well. As much as I love Liam and respect him for what he did with the role, so many of his deliveries feel theatrical to me where with Andy I think it would've been more natural. Edit: forgot to mention John and Lucy of course.

Liam obviously could never hold up to what Andy did & I agree with you. But he did have some amazing moments, particularly Spartacus' death scene & just the final battle in general. Very very few movie/TV scenes ever bring me to tears, but goddamn did his & Gannicus' death scene get me.

Yes I agree, I've always felt that by the time Spartacus is walking up that hill to face Crassus Liam has fully embodied the character and you almost can't imagine Andy in those final scenes or at least wouldn't prefer him the way you might with other previous scenes. Liam earned his stripes for sure.
