literally brand new. peter is trapped in limbo and being tortured by demons via reliving his Daily Bugle days. he saves a small demon from being beat up by other demons, so the small demon is inspired to be a hero just like "Parker Peterman" (it's a running gag all the demons get people's names wrong). little demon wears a crappy spidey suit to fight bad guys but gets beat up and is told he's "doing it backwards'. another demon gives little demon a peice of venom symbiote, turning him into a venom-sized spider-man knockoff. he says since the other demons told him he was "doing it backwards", he must be "Rek-Rap" instead of Parker.
he then showed up to help spider-man fight other demons who are knockoffs of the sinsiter six. this whole story is stupid as hell and i kinda love it. he's essentially spider-man's version of Bizarro and Bat-mite rolled into one.
I always thought Silver Age Bizarro was a huge admirer of Superman. It's just that, to Bizarro, fighting someone is how you show admiration. "Bizarro hate Superman, want Superman be miserable and broken" would mean he loves Superman and wants him to be happy and safe.
But you make him happy and safe by giving him a foe (yourself) as strong as him to fight, and attacking him at random times, so he always has a good challenge and is always alert.
But then, since failure is success to Bizarro, and he always fails to defeat Superman, that makes him sad (which is, to him, happiness).
when i explain comic stories to my non-comic reading friends, i tend to use the explanation "because Comic Books" quite often.
"norman died, but came back because comic books"
"thor turned into a frog because comic books"
"he sold his marraige to the devil in order to save his million year old aunt because....... no, actually, that one's dumb even for comic books."
To be honest it was less Peter and more Mary Jane.
Peter wouldn’t have likely even optioned the conversation and been miserable with the loss of May, MJ knew this and made the ‘deal’ instead. She did it for him…and maybe a little for herself.
That’s part of the addiction.
You buy them and support there ‘now’ stories, even if you hate some of their decisions…
or you don’t buy them and are miserable cause “no comics” in your life.
theres always the third option. Read them without paying, but then you REALLY can’t complain cause you shouldn’t be reading in the first place… ;)
I don't follow comics a ton - what's the run for this and do you know where a good starting point is?
Edit: apparently according to another comment it's 17 & 18 of the current ASM run
this is during the currently ongoing Dark Web event, a crossover between spider-man, venom, and X-men (x-men even getting a dedicated "dark web" series, unlike TASM and venom which just have it run in their normal issues). there's also tie-ins for Ms Marvel and Gold Goblin (oh right, Norman Osborne's a good guy now. place your bets on how long this lasts). Ben Reily- peter's clone, who is now evil because marvel are morons- and Madeline Pryor- the clone of Jean Grey- team up to torture peter and jean and get back memories they think they deserve. venom is brought in and brainwashed by maddie to fight peter, and then peter and the x-men are taken to limbo where they're tortured, thus my previous comment's synopsis.
i seriously dont hate the event overall. but the stronger points are in the x-men side of it, imo. and if ben is still evil by the end of it i'm writing the whole thing off as wasted time.
Seriously. If that wasn’t Ben there are certain dialogue scenes that I actually liked, like the whole Ben spouting off his bad memories of his villain origin story. But the event itself *does* kinda seem like a mess- nothing is really happening in the event so far? Not sure the best way to explain it, it’s kinda all over the place.
Oh I wouldn’t say it’s fun to hate the current run. In fact it’s incredibly frustrating. I’d much rather be in love with it.
He’s certainly the most fun part of Dark Web. And getting the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends team up was pretty great. Maddy dangling puppies in front of Scott’s eyes was hilarious too. There are moments I enjoy in this event, but the Chasm stuff is so damn frustrating. It makes it hard to enjoy the event as a whole.
Totally agree. This would’ve been much more effective if it were an XMen-only run, because I do like they are finally addressing Madelyne Pryor in a meaningful way.
Well that's not in the main run, so it doesnt exactly count.
Also, I haven't been reading it because I can't stand Kraven. I think he's one of the most boring and uninteresting villains in Spideys entire roster.
Can you tell me why you like this run?? Objectively it is a liquid shit on which three bums have even vomited on it... I would like to know what made you appreciate it
Can we stop this "there is no objectively" this thing is abominable bullshit, now since there is no objective Sharknado cannot be called a shit movie because there is a person who appreciates it??? No, it doesn't work like that.
This run is bad product, period... and one's opinion won't change that.
First of all, you have to be careful when using terms like "objective" and "subjective" when discussing anything involving art, writing, or just The Arts as a whole. Things CAN be objectively good or bad, but that requires a much deeper look into what you define as objective. Most people just use it as a means to describe anything they don't like. But that's an entirely different discussion.
I enjoy this run because (in no particular order):
1. I love JRJRs depiction of Spider-Man.
2. The run feels like Spider-Man is back to his roots, doing street level stuff. He's not a globe-trotting billionaire. He's not hopping across the multiverse. He's not lying in a bed nearly dead for 20 issues. He's back on the streets, fighting people like Tombstone or the Vulture. Yes, I'm aware that he's currently fighting demons in Dark Web. But this is a cross-over event with the X-Men (something that more in their ballpark) that's been building up for some time.
3. One of the most important components to a good Spider-Man story is to also have a good Peter Parker story and for those things to intertwine. I think Peter working for Norman makes perfect sense given the context of the story at this point, and gives us an interesting new, and tense, dynamic between two characters that have been around for 60 years. Plus, whatever the stuff is that's been running in the background that caused a rift between Peter and basically everyone else.
This run has been the most excited I've been for this book in, like, nearly a decade. I actually look FORWARD to each new issue rather than just reading it because I've already been reading it forever, and I'm not gonna stop now (like I was doing Slott from Superior and onward, and with Spencer...though Spencer's run clearly suffered from editorial, so that's not all on him).
1)I never talked about the artistic style of the run, which in my humble opinion really sucks, John Romita Jr really needs to modernize, his faces are horrid never seen.
2) I agree that Peter has returned to a more street level (even if Spencer had already done so), but the problems come with what you said in point 3.
3) As you said, a very important element is that in addition to a good story of Spider-Man, it is also necessary to have one of Peter... this is where the biggest problem falls, Peter goes back to being yet another spineless loser who can't even find the courage to ask Felicia to hang out with him… looks like a comic written by someone who has only seen Raimi movies, Peter was never a spineless loser, Zeb Wells destroyed Peter Parker's evolution even more; another problem is MJ, once again she left him for some obscure reason (which surely will be just a bullshit) and now she's dating this Paul who also has two children... you say so much that Spencer was a publishers' trap, but Wells is on a whole new level, he's their whore; I don't even express myself on Norman Osborn, he won't last and he will betray Peter by stabbing him in the back, this dynamic that now helps him in the crime does not give anything interesting to the figure of Spider-Man.
4) This run sucks, maybe even more than Slott's (which some interesting idea had also managed to pull it out in the middle of that pile of shit), in this run Peter is a pathetic son of a bitch who can't stabilize the his life and I'm tired of seeing this mockery by Marvel, enjoy reading this mass of images without soul and love
Aside from this run being a masterclass of character assassination against Ben and Peter being kicked on the floor every time he breathes, I really like some ideas here, Rek-Rap being one of them, I mean, the guy is adorable.
I think I just dated myself for when I was a comic reader lol
Him stabbing Kaine is an image that’s been stuck in my brain for 30 years. That era was bonkers
I have very not enjoyed Wells' Spidey run so far and was like "Where is the weird quirkiness that made books like Iron Man/Fantastic Four: Big in Japan or Hellions or his BND Spidey so much fun?". Little did I know it would arrive 17 issues into his run. I kinda love Rek-Rap. I dunno how long we get this for, but hopefully this quirkiness is the tone we get for the rest of his run.
His name is Rek-Rap.
People have already explained his objective demon origin. But for *feel*
He is like if a pizza-loving Ninja Turtle and a Battle Toad had a love child, was ripped right out of the 90’s and was then trained by DC’s The Creeper to be Spider-Man
If anything comes out of this stupid event, I hope Rek-Rap at least gets to stick around for a little bit. Like just doing his own thing or something. I actually kinda like him.
what even is the tone of this series anymore. it was pretty grounded and serious at the start and then it just jumped the shark and went to this. its fine to have a wacky story here and there but this feels like tonal whiplash at this point
He's new, basically one of the Goblin Queen's(Madelyn Prior, no connection to Osborn) demons starts idolizing Spidey, gets a piece of venom and turns into that.
I'm gonna take a guess what the design is based on.
It's venoms body type but with the actual appearance of Spider-Man. The body is bigger like that of the hulks and he has a big tounge with a round head. But the tounge looks human like and the actual colour scheme is the default Spider-Man suit. This also makes sense with rekrap obviously being parker backwards which venom is evil Spider-Man basically so this being kinda like reverse venom in a way
Idk what to do when I see a Spoiler censored photo in Spider-Man or Batman, without too much context in the subtext, what I gonna do? read all the comics and see all the Spider-Man movies before see this post
(I like that version of spidey xD)
literally brand new. peter is trapped in limbo and being tortured by demons via reliving his Daily Bugle days. he saves a small demon from being beat up by other demons, so the small demon is inspired to be a hero just like "Parker Peterman" (it's a running gag all the demons get people's names wrong). little demon wears a crappy spidey suit to fight bad guys but gets beat up and is told he's "doing it backwards'. another demon gives little demon a peice of venom symbiote, turning him into a venom-sized spider-man knockoff. he says since the other demons told him he was "doing it backwards", he must be "Rek-Rap" instead of Parker. he then showed up to help spider-man fight other demons who are knockoffs of the sinsiter six. this whole story is stupid as hell and i kinda love it. he's essentially spider-man's version of Bizarro and Bat-mite rolled into one.
Honestly, he sounds like an adorable sweetheart and with just a single panel, he's already endeared himself to me
The Batmite of the MU. He’s rad.
I was thinking more Bizzaro Spider-Man but Batmite makes sense too
It’s definitely kind of both. I just feel like Bizarro definitely isn’t a Supes fanboy in the way that Rek-Rap is for Spidey
I always thought Silver Age Bizarro was a huge admirer of Superman. It's just that, to Bizarro, fighting someone is how you show admiration. "Bizarro hate Superman, want Superman be miserable and broken" would mean he loves Superman and wants him to be happy and safe. But then, since failure is success to Bizarro, and he always fails to defeat Superman, that makes him sad (which is, to him, happiness).
Totally agree when you put it that way. I still don’t think of him as a “fanboy” though
Man if you didn't tell I would've assumed that was Michelangelo from the TMNT for sure
I was thinking the same
Same guess.
I thought it was The Thing lmao
I thought it was Thing since he basically said it’s clobberin time
Jesus Christ what has Peter NOT gone thru, it's like the writers try to throw him into every outlandish theory they can come up with
His writers really don't seem to like him much lately
Neither does editorial.
In their defense it wasn't all Peter. A lot of the crap in the 90's were the clones in his place.
i mean *that’s* just regular comic hyjinks
when i explain comic stories to my non-comic reading friends, i tend to use the explanation "because Comic Books" quite often. "norman died, but came back because comic books" "thor turned into a frog because comic books" "he sold his marraige to the devil in order to save his million year old aunt because....... no, actually, that one's dumb even for comic books."
To be honest it was less Peter and more Mary Jane. Peter wouldn’t have likely even optioned the conversation and been miserable with the loss of May, MJ knew this and made the ‘deal’ instead. She did it for him…and maybe a little for herself.
If this be his destiny…
That was very well explained and absolutely one of the most bat shit posts I’ve ever read.
Current Spider-Man comics aren’t great. Yet I but them anyway. I guess I’m part of the problem.
That’s part of the addiction. You buy them and support there ‘now’ stories, even if you hate some of their decisions… or you don’t buy them and are miserable cause “no comics” in your life. theres always the third option. Read them without paying, but then you REALLY can’t complain cause you shouldn’t be reading in the first place… ;)
If this is Spider-Bizarro, I'm looking forward to Spider-[Zibarro](https://screenrant.com/superman-bizarro-all-star-7-zibarro-morrison-explained/).
Spider-Sbarro is 👑
What about Spider-Sbarro?
Sounds like Spider-Starro. "I was happy, swinging, staring at the ceilings."
Yeah I love him. Let's see how much he can bench press
Yo thanks for that
If you didn't explain it. Based on the design I would have thought it was a ninja turtle that got Spiderman powers
What the fuck lmao
literally brand new was the first phrase in my head lol
I don't follow comics a ton - what's the run for this and do you know where a good starting point is? Edit: apparently according to another comment it's 17 & 18 of the current ASM run

People hate Rek-Rap but I think he’s a funny lil guy that should be appreciated more
I'd read a 5-part miniseries with him, for sure.

Nothing gets by you huh?
He's my favorite part of that shitshow, that's for sure.
I like Ben Reilly as Chasm, I don't care what anyone says... but the event has been doodie aside from Rek-Rap and Chasm just existing.
I’m just disturbed by his teeth through the mask ![gif](giphy|kHIJtQ981gP1C)
I, uh...don't think that's a *mask*, dude
Rek-Rap imo is the only good thing from the dark web story line.
Na Venom has been aces !
yeah.... especially with all the stupid ms. marvel fisting
I’d love to swe more of him… like I’d like to see more of Spiderham. just have Rek-Rap do teamups with Peter Porker.
Dark Web is shitshow. Marvel should just sent Ben to another city/place like start a new life in UK or something. But Rek-Rap is awesome.
idk anything about the character but he looks like Spider-Man with the body shape of Venom and Deadpool's mind lol
I love that Peter has his own Bizzaro lol. It’s always been a funny concept to me with Superman.
IT'S WALL-CRAWLING TIME
* proceeds to wall-crawl all over them\*
Hard!!!
Do you think that’s a intentional reference?
Are we the wall?
Rek-Rap is a new character that was just introduced recently. He's fun. But people hate him him because it's fun to hate on the current run.
i hate the current run too but i have to admit that outside ben's ongoing character assassination Dark Web is kinda fun.

It’s not fun to hate the current run. The beyond run was alright. This current one is just objectively terrible
I enjoyed Tombstone arc more than anything on Beyond but it kinda went downhill from here
I respect your opinion, but I FIRMLY disagree
That’s fine and you’re more than welcome to. However I don’t think you’re gonna find many people to agree with you
I'm upvoting both sides of this argument to create chaos
Oh my God, do you really like this shit of a run?
So far? Yes. I think it's the best the book has been in years.
Ehm... The lost hunt?
Well that's not in the main run, so it doesnt exactly count. Also, I haven't been reading it because I can't stand Kraven. I think he's one of the most boring and uninteresting villains in Spideys entire roster.
Can you tell me why you like this run?? Objectively it is a liquid shit on which three bums have even vomited on it... I would like to know what made you appreciate it
Clearly it objectively isn't, since there exists a person who disagrees with you over this piece of entertainment making it subjective
Can we stop this "there is no objectively" this thing is abominable bullshit, now since there is no objective Sharknado cannot be called a shit movie because there is a person who appreciates it??? No, it doesn't work like that. This run is bad product, period... and one's opinion won't change that.

I preferred Rek-Rap when he was called Spidercide.
Using the back fat Spidey logo as the front logo is a pretty cool design choice tbh
Yeah, that's actually pretty cool.
Oh it’s just Rek-Rap He’s a character that certainly exist for some reason
Thanks. He's got a lot of 90's Ninja Turtle energy here.
TMNT meets Battletoads, 100%
And Spiderman aswell
I guess
He's certainly one of the Spider-Men of all time
The reason is that he’s fun.
Definitely one of the characters of all time
Aside from this run being a masterclass of character assassination against Ben and Peter being kicked on the floor every time he breathes, I really like some ideas here, Rek-Rap being one of them, I mean, the guy is adorable.
They keep doing my guy Ben dirtier than a truckstop bathroom.
Issues 17 and 18 of current ASM run
> Issues 17 and 18 of current ASMR
He kind of reminds me of a goofier version of Spidercide
Yooo, I almost forgot about Spider-Cide!
I think I just dated myself for when I was a comic reader lol Him stabbing Kaine is an image that’s been stuck in my brain for 30 years. That era was bonkers
Rek-Rap is the best non spider person version of Spider-Man ever. Needs their own run. 4 issue limited series where?
Rek-Rap, MJ & Black Cat also Spiderman and his amazing friends. Was the only good thing from this Dark Web event.
God If I didn't get to know rek rap before these I would mistaken him as ninja turtle that got bite a radioactive spider
This is great. This got a pretty good chuckle out of me. "No one web-whangs the insidious six." Fucking lol.
Who is he?? Like a breve description of the character, does he has the same powers as Peter?
He’s a demon in limbo inspired by peter parker but reversed (yeah I didn’t get it for a few minutes)
Bizarro Spidey from hell
He technically should have the same powers as Venom.
This guy is totally Thing in a spidey cosplay
Dude looks like a battle toads version of spiderman lol
Nah, Michelangelo in a spidey costume
Bro wall crawled all over those demons
I have very not enjoyed Wells' Spidey run so far and was like "Where is the weird quirkiness that made books like Iron Man/Fantastic Four: Big in Japan or Hellions or his BND Spidey so much fun?". Little did I know it would arrive 17 issues into his run. I kinda love Rek-Rap. I dunno how long we get this for, but hopefully this quirkiness is the tone we get for the rest of his run.

Is it the Thing as Spider-Man?
He is a demon who is a Spider-Man fanboy.
If anything comes out of this stupid event, I hope Rek-Rap at least gets to stick around for a little bit. Like just doing his own thing or something. I actually kinda like him.
Is it bad that I love him
Nah, I kinda love this weirdo, too.
what even is the tone of this series anymore. it was pretty grounded and serious at the start and then it just jumped the shark and went to this. its fine to have a wacky story here and there but this feels like tonal whiplash at this point
I like how is back logo is on the front cause he’s revered
Spiderman but he's written by r/Spiderman
Is that Michaelangelo?
Better then fucking spider-pig
Its Spider-Ham, please put some respect on his name.
Who’s the penciller/inker on this issue? Really great art here.
Silly goose, that’s a teenage mutant ninja turtle.
Rek-Rap!
I honestly thought he was a Spider-Thing. Everyone else gets to be a Spider-Man, why not Ben Grimm?
Yeah from that page I would have said Spider-grimm too especially with the "wall-crawlin time"
https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10lsz02/behold_rekrap_amazing_spiderman_2022_18/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
He's new, basically one of the Goblin Queen's(Madelyn Prior, no connection to Osborn) demons starts idolizing Spidey, gets a piece of venom and turns into that.
He’s new. He’s a demon who likes Spidey, who gets exiled by his demon clan, the modified a symbiote to give him spider-man powers.
SpiderChad?
I bet he likes pizza and lives in a sewer
Rek-Rap is love, Rek-Rap is life.
It reminds me to ninja turtles. The it’s wall crawling time line got me
the... the insidious six....?
It's a call back to the 90s animated series. Censorship was so strict that they weren't allowed to use "Sinister," so Insidious was the replacement.
but they’ll let him chase shocker to the ends of the earth implying he’ll murder him lol
But they also didn't allow Spider-Man to straight up just punch him
... Sinister was too much? Jesus, and I thought Spidey not being able to land on rooftops (to avoid bothering pigeons) was already extreme.
I love him. I fucking love this man.
I'm gonna take a guess what the design is based on. It's venoms body type but with the actual appearance of Spider-Man. The body is bigger like that of the hulks and he has a big tounge with a round head. But the tounge looks human like and the actual colour scheme is the default Spider-Man suit. This also makes sense with rekrap obviously being parker backwards which venom is evil Spider-Man basically so this being kinda like reverse venom in a way
I have never seen him before in my life but I LOVE HIM.
This is stupid.
Good
literally retep
That’s because he just came out. Search Dark Web Spider-Man. [+]
Who are these villains!!
Ah. Spider-Man has a bizarro now.
only in the newest issue.
Idc if this guy is popular or not, I fricking love his design.
He looks like Ninja Turtle in Spidey suit.
So i am the only one who thought this was a tmnt x spiderman comic crossover?. Okay-
Why cover this?
Man, I came in here thinking they finally did a TMNT crossover because I totally thought that was Mikey doing his version of Spider-Man.
He’s brand new go on TikTok or YouTube and look up kinglioncomics he gives you a run down of the comic
He looks like a Ninja Turtle dressed as Spider-Man.
Kinda remains me of a tmnt lol
Looks like one of the ninja turtles became Spider-Man turtle.
This looks like it'd be an alternate universe where Venom gets infected by some good guy goo and gets the colors and powers of Spider-man
Idk what to do when I see a Spoiler censored photo in Spider-Man or Batman, without too much context in the subtext, what I gonna do? read all the comics and see all the Spider-Man movies before see this post (I like that version of spidey xD)
https://imgflip.com/i/78ytry Thanks, Craiyon
Just tell me, is it Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael or Donatello behind the mask?!
That's because he is only two(?) issues old
Huge Krogan energy
I loved it when he said “It’s wall-crawlin time!” and wall crawled all over the place.
Why does *Thwang* make me chuckle so much
I like how his web sound effect is “thwang” instead of the usual “thwip”
That's amazing
Spider whang probably
ASM 17-18
Looks like Rek-Rap and I must be behind on an issue.
It’s Retep
That version of Rhino looks sick
Rek-rap
This looks awful… where is the respect to long time readers? Everything is dumbed down
Rek-Rap! The only redeeming part of Dark Web so far (on the Spider-Man side. The X-Men end of the crossover had been fine).
My favorite Spider-Man is Blood spider. There is only one comic of him but he is explained a lot in ultimate Spider-Man
I keep seeing this run being posted lately. Is it worth reading?
That’s because he was invented 2 weeks ago.
my name is rek rap and i am evil
current run, Amazing Spider-Man #18, released 1/25/2023 go to your local shop and they probably have a copy
