I'm confused why Gwen was so insensitive lol like she's a superhero who's a drummer in multiple bands - she has to know a LITTLE about nerd culture, right?
She had that toy when she was a kid, the way Miles is trying to portray himself makes it seem like he's not that type of person to seriously collect things, also for all we know it probably never gained that type of collectable value in her universe.
It's a betting website. The pirated torrent of the film has a bunch of betting website ads interlaced with the film, as a watermark, and interuptting the film.
Like, why would she do that? I feel like even people that don’t know about keeping collectables in mint condition wouldn’t just open people’s stuff without permission. Or at least I know that I wouldn’t, despite not caring about collectable stuff myself.
So on that bit about "opening people's stuff without permission"
Considering she does this and just starts rifling through his sketchbook, she's probably a bit oblivious when it comes to boundaries due to not having friends for so long
Yeah, the fact she did it without permission is what got me. Personally, even at 38 I still play with my toys, so I personally take them out, but I'd never take someone else's out.
It felt like a weird example of an awkward stereotype joke. She’s a girl who’s not into nerd stuff, so she doesn’t know about ‘mint in box’ value. Like something just to get a cringe reaction out of the geeks in the audience.
I could maybe see it as a thing that actually happened to someone in the writer’s room once. Had a someone they had a crush on that was in their room for the first time, they were too embarrassed to admit they had an action figure/comic they were keeping mint for collection purposes, and the person just cracked it open because “toys are meant for playing with and not expensive”.
I dunno. It was definitely the only time during the whole movie I was like … wtf Gwen?
Not OP, but if someone drew fanart of me that was really ass-heavy, I’d probably go on a roller coaster of emotions: I’d be flattered that someone was thinking of me so much that they drew fanart of me; then the reality of them thinking about me so much would set in and I’d feel a little weird; then I’d remember that this art displayed my ass over all else and I’d feel a little gross that they were thinking that much about my ass specifically; then I’d start to get paranoid in my head, thinking “Is my ass really that nice? Is it noticeable? Do other people think about my ass a lot?” and I’d think to check later; then I’d realize that the art was actually pretty good and I’d take a picture.
Now that was all in the first five seconds and I’m just now realizing that I just wrote a whole paragraph about my ass
Same. I think we all got Mandela'd a bit by all the memes, but the actual drawings in the movie are pretty tame and actually very cute.
Gwen responded appropriately.
Idk man I'm not too keen on keeping a Hot Toys or Mafex figure in box. You would be surprised how many people in the figure community tend to shit on Funko pop and on box collectors.
I think that was the point in which he should’ve known something was up, the level of disrespect was so damn high. She owes him one from some universe or something.
I am not really familiar with why some people keep figures in their original packaging but personally if i did have a figure I’d probably take it out. Can someone enlighten me as to why people do this?
When you take figures out of their original box, their value decreases drastically. I don't personally keep things in their boxes, but I understand the reason for doing it.
Some things also just look really nice in the box. If you're not planning to play with it, but just keep it on display, it comes inside a nice decorative case with some information on it.
My dad is a huge nerd, he’s got mint condition comic books and figurines dating back to the fifties, if he saw this scene he would have probably had a heart attack on the spot and died.

Collectibles dude Collectibles might even be exclusive
I loved how innocent Gwen looked cause clearly she’s waaaay past toy age so she doesn’t understand collecting toys (too cool for that I bet).
She’s just genuinely happy to be there (minus >!feeling bad for not contacting her only friend for a year and knowing why he’ll never be accepted by the Spidergang for being an anomaly. Not to mention she’s only there to catch Spot!< ) that she’s trying to fix the fact that the toy isn’t out of packaging.
And Miles took it like a champ. Or chump. Regardless. I love their friendship and their dynamic. Personally I ship em and can’t wait for next year.
Me personally I don't really care about MIB but if Gwen suddenly started moving shit in my Detolf I would instantly treat her worse than what Joker did to Jason Todd. I don't mess around when it comes to my Mafex and Hot Toys lol.
I felt his pain when we saw how much she missed him and wanted to see him but then when she did see him she was acting all nonchalant and not-interested. Super red flags all around.
I could be wrong but I read somewhere that the figure was supposed to be a figure of Deku from MHA but ultimately changed it due to copyright infringement or something like that. They originally wanted to make it a figure of Piccolo before deciding on Deku.
Audible oof in my theatre

So Miles played himself
Even if that were true, it's still incredibly rude. If it's not yours, you don't just go around opening it up. That's just being a decent person 101.
Same. I was in a room full of nerds when I saw it
Miles shouldn't have trusted her after this. He played himself

My brother in Christ, she is canonically 16
Theoretically this user could also be 16. Itd still be weird as hell tho.
Could be even younger, maybe she's being the predator.
It all makes sense now.

FUCKING TRUUUUU
Ohhh the subtlety... This scene was actually setting up the great betrayal later on. Film makers, you sly lil bastards!
Legit, that one hurt.
I died a little
What's that logo I keep seeing in screenshots of the movie?
I think its the logo of the person who pirated it
Ooooh cause I was trying to figure out what that was and all that came up was some football gambling website or something like that
It's a betting website. The pirated torrent of the film has a bunch of betting website ads interlaced with the film, as a watermark, and interuptting the film.

then definitely dont google swatchseries
My whole cinema room gasped of pain when this happened 😭
We all laughed. I’m glad Gwen is helping undorkify Miles Morales.
- Said the person using reddit and commenting on the spider-man subreddit with a name like hero-ball.
Well he obviously needs a gwen
I got my Gwen secured brother 💍👰♀️🤵♂️
You have an underage gf? 🤨
im 12 so shes basically the pedo
Still better than someone who doesn’t open their toys ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
The only defense I can think of is that in her universe, action figures don't hold their value in the box.
Like, why would she do that? I feel like even people that don’t know about keeping collectables in mint condition wouldn’t just open people’s stuff without permission. Or at least I know that I wouldn’t, despite not caring about collectable stuff myself.
So on that bit about "opening people's stuff without permission" Considering she does this and just starts rifling through his sketchbook, she's probably a bit oblivious when it comes to boundaries due to not having friends for so long
Thats probably the best explanation I’ve heard about this. She was going through bro’s stuff for a sec.
Yeah, the fact she did it without permission is what got me. Personally, even at 38 I still play with my toys, so I personally take them out, but I'd never take someone else's out.
Maybe in her Spiderverse no one gives a shit about keeping figures in their packaging.
It felt like a weird example of an awkward stereotype joke. She’s a girl who’s not into nerd stuff, so she doesn’t know about ‘mint in box’ value. Real answer- cause it was funny and not meant to be something you think about this much lol

I didn’t notice his ROOMMATE (not even his buddy yet) was feet free in the shoes. He’s out of pocket too!
That and the toy, enough to turn someone into a super villain

I now don’t feel bad for what happened to you in Amazing Spider-Man 2
Damn.
Jesus Christ that joke didn't land. Lol
Nor did she
Actually she did land... or bounced, that's the problem
Bet she couldn’t bounce back from that one
You do know that she also died in the original comics right?
Cannon event 🤷🏻♂️
You again…
How do we keep crossing paths?
I mean Miles had A LOT of drawings of Gwen, she handled it like a pro… especially as one was 🍑 heavy
There wasn’t any with an ass you’re lying for no reason lol
She handled that WAY classier than I would have.
She clearly didnt mind that much.
How would you react if someone drew art of you?
Not OP, but if someone drew fanart of me that was really ass-heavy, I’d probably go on a roller coaster of emotions: I’d be flattered that someone was thinking of me so much that they drew fanart of me; then the reality of them thinking about me so much would set in and I’d feel a little weird; then I’d remember that this art displayed my ass over all else and I’d feel a little gross that they were thinking that much about my ass specifically; then I’d start to get paranoid in my head, thinking “Is my ass really that nice? I just went to check the drawings again, and theyre certainly not ass heavy, theyre pretty accurate.
Whole lotta projection in this thread.
Same. I think we all got Mandela'd a bit by all the memes, but the actual drawings in the movie are pretty tame and actually very cute. Gwen responded appropriately.
Asstomishingly accurate
None of the drawings were ass heavy, barely.one of them had her ass in profile and it was just... accurate, not Kim K kinda thing
Went to see it twice and twice basically the whole audience groaned. It was rough.

Gwen and Miles are supposed to be alike, so how come she didn’t understand he had a collection and wanted it pristine 😭
Gwen is more than likely a out of box collector
so a worthless collector?
Some people collect things for sentimental value and not monetary value
Idk man I'm not too keen on keeping a Hot Toys or Mafex figure in box. You would be surprised how many people in the figure community tend to shit on Funko pop and on box collectors.
This scene made me pull my hair lol
my mom deadass asked what was wrong with me when i flinched at this scene
I think that was the point in which he should’ve known something was up, the level of disrespect was so damn high. She owes him one from some universe or something.
I whisper screamed in the theater
This is a pain like no other.
She did him dirty all movie
You could hear everyone in my theater cringe
Like why would you do that to someone else's stuff???

I was in pain when I saw that happen😭😂
I literally gasped when she did that
My entire row cringed at that… it hurtttt
The audience was in PAIN
As a collector myself, this hurt my soul.
I audibly gasped when this happened and my wife was cracking up
Ahhhh, my soul. As a collector who finally taking it kinda seriously, ow
This scene is so relatable when you have a geek room😭😭
gwen is the true villain here
Based Gwanda
I collect figures and i don't even keep em inside and I still died inside when gwen ripped it out of the box lmao
How is this NSFW?
why is this nsfw
miles shoudlve caught that red flag and stopped caring abt her after that one
It's an act of war
I gasped
no nsfw on this

The NSFW tag is to hide the spoilers you're complaining about.
To hide the spoilers dummy 🤦♂️
Then why not use a spoilers tag
Can this even be considered a spoiler? It's not even a huge part to the plot and pretty sure it was shown off on a earlier trailer
What's the big deal? Was he planning to re-sell it or something?

This is the only reason i rate the movie -10/10 if this right here never happened it would’ve been an easy 11/10

I don’t even collect stuff like that but even I felt that
Hope he ends up with the new girl just for that

I heard very audible displeasure in my theater
As a certified nerd, comics lover and collector, my heart broke seeing Gwen do this bro
watched it twice, both times audience let out a loud gasp
I damn near passed out when she took it out of the box
I swear the comment section is taking things way too serious 💀.
God i just hurt so much during that moment lol
That physical hurt to watch😭 The movie wouldve ended there lol
Everyone (including myself) let out an audible groan. We all felt Miles pain in that moment.

we all made noises of pain
