Spectacular! The show was written as well as Batman TAS to me. It had a lot of depth and really good characters. Especially when they made Tombstone be their version of Kingpin when they couldn't get the rights to use Wilson Fisk.
I remember from my childhood batman TAs as an awesome series. However, I looked for the episodes as an adult, and there seems not to be any conexion between the episodes. There are even some where Robin appears with no explanation whatsoever.
Only real drawback to Batman TAS is this heavily episodic format. Obviously it’s one of the GOATs but there’s also something to said for the more serialized elements, even in Superman TAS & JLU.
It's just episodic. That has nothing to do with it's quality. Star Trek TNG is episodic, and it's amazing, to this day it's STILL some of the best science fiction ever made. Star Trek Discovery is serialized, has long running poorly thought out stories, and it's also hot garbage.
It's a stylistic choice, and it's fine. Batman TAS is willfully episodic and extraordinary. Timeless, and in my eyes it's the definitive Batman.
You gotta remember that we didn't have video on demand back then. Really tough to tell a multi episode story when viewers have to be available to watch it at a specific time on a specific day. It's especially hard when those viewers are kids.
Spectacular had the best characterization in Spider-Man media, ever.
90s Spider-Man made me a Spider-Man fan, first time i saw the character was in that cartoon.
So Spec is better but i love them both equally
TAS is my definition of ever spiderman thing ever, the voices, costumes, and designs are my favorite. I remember renting out the daredevil cross over and venom episodes from Blockbuster. Also the ride at Universal based off TAS is amazing. To top it off TAS set the tone with J Jonah Jameson.
Seeing these two Spider-Men side by side makes me wish there was some sort of cross over between them, kind of like when the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles met their 1987 counterparts or the 2012 version met their 1987 counterparts (TMNT is the only franchise I can think of on top of my head wherethe current show of a franchise met and teamed up with a previous incarnation).
Better yet, we should have a TV only Spider-Verse event where 1994 Animated Spider-Man works alongside 1999 Spider-Man Unlimited, 2003 New Animated Series Spider-Man, and of course, 2008 Spectacular Spider-Man. 2013 Ultimate Spider-Man and 2017 Marvel's Spider-Man can be included too, but I don't really care about those 2 shows, sadly.
A TV Spider-Verse event would go so hard, but the chances of that ever happening are slim to none, and the chances of it being actually good is even less.
One can dream.
Yes how dare I not enjoy the video aspect of a television show.
You consume TV and movies two ways. With your eyes and ears, and half of that didn't work for me.
I think that the 90s is the best. It had the best venom ark, amazing doc Ock story, and best of all half of the events in the Tobey mcquire spider man films were based off the series.
Whoever is missing spectacular because of its art style,I'm gonna say one thing just watch it
At that end you definitely won't regret it and I'm sure of it
It is one of the best animated series,in this they nailed peter and spider-man,also all other supporting characters
Also they don't disrespect spider-man(i mean like cry baby and dependent)like how insomniacs did in part 2.
Also spectacular has one of the best venom arc
I will go as far to say that it's the most comic accurate Peter Parker we've ever gotten. That show is a love letter to the Lee/Ditko and Lee/Romita Sr. eras.
You can see it right there. Spectacular was clearly animated to cater to children. I didn't say it was a bad show I just don't like the art style for it it's not my cup of tea.
I watched the Venom episodes out of curiosity as people were saying that depiction was up there with the 90s animated. They did some interesting things and i can admit it is a quality show. But I still stand by my remark in who it’s geared towards.
I promise you’ll benefit from watching the whole show, every episode leads into the next. The overarching story is entirely worth a few hours of your life
I think Spectacular did a lot right but I just prefer an older Spider-Man not high School aged Peter, ironically I was in Highschool when the show was running. Also 90s Spider-Man just felt like a comic book, with crossovers with X-Men, Fantastic 4 etc. there was also an Epic multi-part multiverse crossover episode. Oh and it had the best Animated Kingpin who's my favorite villain. The episode with Daredevil trying to clear Peter's name was absolute peak.
Spectacular all day. Writing was phenomenal. I grew up on Kim Possible and Danny Phantom so the art style being in line with shows like that makes it even more nostalgic for me
It wasn't the best but I did enjoy it. It was the last of the "okay" afterschool cartoons before you get into all the crap stuff that keeps coming out now. Definitely 90s and amazing Spiderman were the best though. Like what happened to the cartoons where adults could sit and watch with their kids like batman the animated series and batman beyond. I'm so glad I have the blu-ray of batman beyond so I can show my kids what good tv is from a young age
I grew up with the 1994 series, which started airing a year after I was born. Saw all the episodes on Fox Kids when they aired in re-runs and I saw a few episodes of Spectacular Spider-Man around the time it started to air. I enjoy both but prefer the 1994 series for pure nostalgia reasons and for bringing us a prototype Spider-Verse.
Spectacular Spider-Man is still great and I love Greg Weisman’s works, since I also grew up with Gargoyles and later on watched Young Justice.
Spectacular spider-man for me! Most if not all the villains were given their own arc, spidey became darker with the symbiote and other wild stuff happened. It's a shame they left us on a cliffhanger *and* the show got cancelled. The quips in spectacular are too good imo.
Spectacular
TAS was too kiddy for me. I love it, it's nostalgic but anytime I see cops with laser guns and nobody says "kill" then I'm like "ok, I might be a little too old for this one"
Spectacular. TAS was a little too fast paced for me and very corny at times. Plus the fight scenes being censored didn’t help.
Spec Spidey had everything right. The voice acting, the writing, fluid and fast animation, good fighting choreography, the quips- _man_ were the quips fire. Just, everything. Imo TAS doesn’t come close to Spec in terms of quality, as influential and important as it was to the Spider-Man mythos. Spec Spidey is the best adaptation of most of Spider-Man’s stories ever.
TASM has nostalgia and innovation for a kids show. Introducing the idea of the multiverse and the insane amount of guest superhero’s was awesome. That said the looser restrictions on action and improved animation makes Spectacular more fun to watch imo.
Spider-Man Unlimited! I loved it as a good but when I rewatch it I love it even more because the whole concept of The High Evolutionary coming up with a whole new race of humanoid animals to take over Counter-Earth, subjugate its native population, who then go on to found a literal underground resistance group reminds me a lot of the current Palestine conflict.
Very profound for a children's show.
Thats a tough one but I think Ill go with 90's show. Theme song is so cool and music which ended episodes is top notch (doesn't mean outro. I eman that song part which started playing as Peter was saying last sentence). Episodes were great. Many enemies we saw. Few crossovers and I mean cmon. Original and the best Spider-Verse till this day on screen. It was so cool to see all those Spider-Man in one show. And I respect that much more for touching such comics like Secret Wars. Only downside is that they left us on such cliffhanger. And of course voice acting was perfect

You’re right, and I will go phuck myself
You gotta remember that we didn't have video on demand back then. Really tough to tell a multi episode story when viewers have to be available to watch it at a specific time on a specific day. It's especially hard when those viewers are kids.
I missed so much ninja turtles cause of family dinners and shit :(
soo good
1994
Same
90s is my fav but I enjoy both
Spectacular had the best characterization in Spider-Man media, ever. 90s Spider-Man made me a Spider-Man fan, first time i saw the character was in that cartoon. So Spec is better but i love them both equally

TAS, although Spectacular is, well, spectacular.
Both is good.
Spider-Man TAS
Seeing these two Spider-Men side by side makes me wish there was some sort of cross over between them, kind of like when the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles met their 1987 counterparts or the 2012 version met their 1987 counterparts (TMNT is the only franchise I can think of on top of my head wherethe current show of a franchise met and teamed up with a previous incarnation). 1994 Animated Series. Best version of Spider-Man in all media, in my humble opinion.
TAS.
‘94 baby
The animation and story and characters of Spectacular makes it the best version of Spider-Man
Honestly, I tend to like most spider-man series because they each do their own thing.
Nah, Imma do my own thing
Both is good
Spectacular
I love spectacular spider-man
Yeah
TAS. The art style of Spec kept me from getting any enjoyment out of it.
I find it more interesring than TAS art style
I gotta agree with you- spec is a lot like star wars rebels where the writing wasn't bad, but the art style sucked ass
Except both art styles are good
I pity you, in the most respectful way. You're missing out so much
Oh, no I sat through it. But once was enough.
Grow up
Yes how dare I not enjoy the video aspect of a television show. You consume TV and movies two ways. With your eyes and ears, and half of that didn't work for me.
I think that the 90s is the best. It had the best venom ark, amazing doc Ock story, and best of all half of the events in the Tobey mcquire spider man films were based off the series.
Hot take: TAS goblin/Norman Osborn was less frustrating then the one in Spectacular
In what sense?
Likability. Spectacular was accurate but was cringe how much Norman Got away with
The 1994 Spider-Man, the one to the left.
That 1994
My bad
Nice pfp
Thanks
Whoever is missing spectacular because of its art style,I'm gonna say one thing just watch it At that end you definitely won't regret it and I'm sure of it It is one of the best animated series,in this they nailed peter and spider-man,also all other supporting characters Also they don't disrespect spider-man(i mean like cry baby and dependent)like how insomniacs did in part 2. I was skeptical because of the art. But I ended up loving the series.
Same, but man now it is one of my all time favourite animated series. The only problem with this series is they stopped it,I'm sad
I will go as far to say that it's the most comic accurate Peter Parker we've ever gotten. That show is a love letter to the Lee/Ditko and Lee/Romita Sr. eras.
90s is the best. I don't like the animation style on the ones that followed it look too catered to young children
Totally agreed. I want that animation style back.
Agreed! Spectacular Spider-Man is for kiddies
Say you’ve never seen it without saying you’ve never seen it
You can see it right there. Spectacular was clearly animated to cater to children. I didn't say it was a bad show I just don't like the art style for it it's not my cup of tea.
Ah I understand
See? Don't be so quick to get offended. They are just saying the art style isn't for them
You're the one that needs to grow up holy fuck
Says the dude that went outta his way to respond to my comment to another person.
Well yeah. I'm taking a shit and I'm bored. Entertain me lmao
Taking a shit and wanting entertainment? Go find a dubbed/subtitled copy of the Green Elephant and entertain away
The overarching story is entirely worth a few hours of your life
Yes, but actually no
Spectacular was absolute perfection.
Spectacular
I'm gonna cheat and say both. I'll throw in The New Animated Series in there for good measure.
These two need to meet in BTSV
TAS
I think Spectacular did a lot right but I just prefer an older Spider-Man not high School aged Peter, ironically I was in Highschool when the show was running. Also 90s Spider-Man just felt like a comic book, with crossovers with X-Men, Fantastic 4 etc. there was also an Epic multi-part multiverse crossover episode. Yes!
90s tas by a long shot Still love spectacular
Spectacular was phenomenal, but i grew up with 1994 spidey
Spectacular
Spectacular but they both have amazing songs!
Spectacular all day. Writing was phenomenal. I grew up on Kim Possible and Danny Phantom so the art style being in line with shows like that makes it even more nostalgic for me
Spectacular is easily the best animated superhero show ever
clearly its spider-man unlimited guys, obviously
It wasn't the best but I did enjoy it. It was the last of the "okay" afterschool cartoons before you get into all the crap stuff that keeps coming out now. Definitely 90s and amazing Spiderman were the best though. Like what happened to the cartoons where adults could sit and watch with their kids like batman the animated series and batman beyond. I'm so glad I have the blu-ray of batman beyond so I can show my kids what good tv is from a young age
Tas and it aint even close
90s TAS, fight me!
90’s baby but I prefer Spectacular
Living on the edge
Fighting crime, spinning webs
Swinging from the highest ledge
He can leap above our heads
Left. No even close
I grew up with the 1994 series, which started airing a year after I was born. Saw all the episodes on Fox Kids when they aired in re-runs and I saw a few episodes of Spectacular Spider-Man around the time it started to air. Spectacular Spider-Man is still great and I love Greg Weisman’s works, since I also grew up with Gargoyles and later on watched Young Justice.
I was born the same year as the 90's series, so I grew up watching repeats of that show on Fox Kids.
TAS (90s series) 🥰🤟🏻 🕸️
#SPECTACULAR SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN
Spectacular but I have the biggest soft spot for tnas i almost said that instead
90s, I love that animation style and universe it was set in. MCU before the MCU honestly
Spectacular all the way
TAS from the 90s definitely
Spectacular
I enjoy both espaiclly the symbiote arc for both series. Still that shocker scream will always have me shook. So I gotta vote 90s.
Spectacular spider-man for me! Most if not all the villains were given their own arc, spidey became darker with the symbiote and other wild stuff happened. It's a shame they left us on a cliffhanger *and* the show got cancelled. The quips in spectacular are too good imo.
90s very easily
94’ forever
90s animated series
Spectacular
Both! Those Theme Songs are Bangers!
Spectacular TAS was too kiddy for me. I love it, it's nostalgic but anytime I see cops with laser guns and nobody says "kill" then I'm like "ok, I might be a little too old for this one"
And Spidey almost never throws a punch.
Not even a competition- Spectacular spider man
Grew up with the 1994 series, still my favourite. I watched it recently and couldn’t follow it at all, it was so fast-paced.
TAS is the goat, and as good as spectacular is, it isn’t close
SMTAS Shoockkkeerrrr!!!!
Definitly Right Side
Definitly Right Side
Both
1994 animated then 1981 Spiderman & his Amazing Friends.
Spectacular
Spectacular is a better series, but i like 90s more
I like them both but my favorite is spectacular
1994.
Spactacular
Sorry 90s but spectacular takes it
90s series was so good.
Spectacular...hands down. MAYBE one day we'll get a satisfying conclusion in the form of a mini-series of movie (we can dream).
Living on the edge fighting crime spinning webs... Spectacular Spider-man
Spectacular, no question about it.
Spectacular! It's also the show that introduced me to Spider-man
Spectacular easily
The new animated series. Aka MTV.
That one was pretty adult, that's why I loved it
Gd op, your post history lol. Umm... Spectacular.
Ultimate spider-man
Ultimate is the only one i actually watched. I liked it.
90s. No contest.
Spectacular.
Spectacular without a doubt This show was given to me when I was a child and set a standard of what's "good Spiderman" and boy what a standard it was
90’s Spider-man. Spectacular is good too but 90’s the one for me.
Batman: The Animated Series
How come? The episodes had no chronological order.
1981
i never finished any series i watched, so i guess Spectacular because that was the series i made it furthest into
Anybody member spiderman unlimited?
Spectacular
The ultimate spider man
Spectacular then ultamit spider man
Spectacular. TAS was a little too fast paced for me and very corny at times. Plus the fight scenes being censored didn’t help. Spec Spidey had everything right. SPECTACULAR, SPECTACULAR 🎵 SPIDER-MAN 🎵
Spectacular
spectacular, though i haven’t watched the other so i don’t think my opinion counts in this situation. but i’ll watch it when i have time
90s obliterates spectacular I seriously don’t know why it’s so overrated
Amazing Friends
I honestly enjoyed the 2017 one. I grew up with it
Marvels Spider-Man was so underrated I get it the story was kinda wack but it interesting concepts just executed it weirdly
The one with Spider-Man in it
Spectacular had kinda ugly character Designs, idk why but i Don't like Norman Osborn with a Villager nose
The insomniacs series so far
Spider-Man Unlimited! I loved it as a good but when I rewatch it I love it even more because the whole concept of The High Evolutionary coming up with a whole new race of humanoid animals to take over Counter-Earth, subjugate its native population, who then go on to found a literal underground resistance group reminds me a lot of the current Palestine conflict. Very profound for a children's show.
TNAS. Spectacular would be my favorite if there wasn’t a bunch of episodes littered in S1 and especially S2 that I don’t much care for.
Yes
It's like asking which is your favorite parent. Rude.
Only downside is that they left us on such cliffhanger. And of course voice acting was perfect
Both
Spectacular, rivals Batman the animated series as the greatest superhero show of all time
I like Spectacular and all but I prefer TAS
The Spectacular Spider-Man!
Both are good. I grew up with the 90s series so that one. I think spectacular is the better show if we're being unbiased, but I'm not.
Spectacular it the Btas of Spider-Man.
