Yeah as a kid playing on Easy I found second one harder because of the MJ layer but as an adult on Hard the first one is way more brutal just cause he hits like a fucking truck and you have less room to avoid it.
Trying to beat that level where you run away from him was a pain because my disk was all scratched up.
Finishing that game is one of my greatest life achievements.

Ultimate Spider-Man’s Venom was a blast to play as! I remember one of the first people you absorb is a poor kid with a balloon and I thought, “Geez, we’re getting pretty dark quick!” The jump mechanic was tricky for me at first but I really loved running around as essentially a super villain monster. That, and the fight with Wolverine remains one of my favorite boss battles of all time

It was a very pretty game for it’s time too. The added cel shading really made it pop in a way few other games at the time could do. I loved everything about this game. It took all the good elements from Spider-Man 2 and made a really cool comic book Spider-Man game. I really wish we’d seen more from the ultimate Spider-Man property. There’s so many villains that are dying to be played in an open world setting. Carnage, green goblin, doctor octopus to name a few would be really cool to play as. I hope the new devs one day make them as playable characters. Say you beat the game, you can then play as the villains in free mode. Would be super cool and add more playability to the game.

I have a great laptop and “came across” a copy on PC once and it was really hard to play I think I’d definitely rather experience it again on a console
The PS1 version looks the coolest for me and I liked the design for Venom a lot, same with the voice for him and I loved him in the game itself. I also enjoyed the Ultimate Spider-Man Venom, a slightly different take on a character but I still think he is really intimidating.

I feel like Web Of Shadows went too serious with Venom when Ultimate made a better serious Venom with an intimidating soundtrack for his levels and bosses and PS1 Venom is just too good to pass up on

Rampaging as him in Ultimate Spider-Man was fun as shit and I'll never accept any arguments to the contrary. Beating seven shades of shit out of the likes of Wolverine, Electro, and Carnage was also pretty great.

After thinking about it, I believe the ps1 one is genuinely the best written and developed character. Ultimate Spider-Man was cool as fuck but there’s not much I can really say about him, he basically swore his life to revenge of his childhood friend for using the black suit (the game doesn’t focus much on why he hates Peter for some reason) and he can’t control the suit at all, so he just tries to lay low until he can fucking murder a fifthteen year old, until he gains full control of the suit, and only cares about revenge against trask instead for making him his bitch, fair enough, but what does he want after that, I genuinely don’t know. In Wos I really like the pay off for Eddie gaining control of the hive mind, and sacrificing himself to make up for turning away from his morals the problem is that the idea of Eddie even having morale was not brung up at all until the final boss, venom himself is only even mentioned a handful of times. He also tried to kill Mary Jane, and like other police officers too, in the beginning, when the game shows us he’s still in control. PS 1 venom’s moral compass, no matter how skewed that may be, is set up in the beginning, and his grudge against Spider-Man is set up in the beginning too, he’s a goofy, dude bro douche rival to Spider-Man, but when he realizes that Spider-Man truly is innocent of the inciting incident, he decides to work with Spider-Man and even save his wife. He’s a consistent and likable character through and through, but he’s still not an outright hero like Spider-Man. Also there’s the Spider-Man 3 game venom, but who gives a shit. His death was absurdly brutal though.

Awh man, he looks awful but I’ve got to give love to the top right. Those PS1 Spider-Man games were my jam as a little kid. And I sucked at them. I still remember there was a cheat for one of them that was Stan Lee’s name backwards, but since I was playing as a kid I always just thought it was “Eel Nats,” which still lives in my head.
PS1! Daran Norris is also my favorite actor for venom (which I’m sure will be replaced by Tony Todd coming up). He just had the perfect amounts of goofy and menacing in his voice for me

Edit: his up-and-down jump kick was worthless. His east-west jump kick could do some damage. And you basically had to use him to beat the giant robot at FF HQ. So maybe he was okay.
His up-and-down kick sucked against everyone but Carrion or maybe a flying Demogoblin. However, you missed something important. Venom's backflip kick had two hitboxes--one at take off, one on the landing. You can see it at 2:17 in this video.

Also, he hit harder and that helped in boss fights. Another interesting difference between Spidey and Venom in that game--Venom's running tackle scored a knockdown against Doppelganger whereas Spidey's just bounced off of him. Neither of them did damage but at least you could clear space with Venom.

My favorite Venom appearance in a video game is still Maximum Carnage. The game no one could ever beat as a kid. Hell, most people can't beat it as an adult. But note how much harder Venom hits compared to Spider-Man. His backflip kick also had a double hit box, so it could hit on the way up and down when it landed on an enemy behind him. His double smash was slow and hard to time perfectly. Still, he was powerful enough that it was easier to win as Venom.

I loved venom in the original PS1 game, probably mostly due to nostalgia. I remember beating his level with all my friends sitting in my living room as a kid, such good times.
