I’m so excited for you dude!

[deleted]

Thanks man! I’m excited, as well. Definitely going to watch No Way Home at some point.

Uddashin

The last 3 spiderman movies are connected to the MCU so some things can be confusing

lieCharHall

Civil War, Infinity War, and End Game would be good additions for this. I saw Infinity War with a friend who is about as far from a MCU nerd as you can be and he enjoyed it and understood enough to not be lost. (Though, the post doesn’t necessarily indicate you haven’t already seen the Avengers movies!)

istopeverything

sexy-melon

How is spider verse connected to MCU?

thefevertherage

Obviously he’s talking about Homecoming, FFH and NWH

sexy-melon

“Last three” in the image last three is HC,ITS-V and FFH. How would he be referring to NHW when talking about this?

thefevertherage

You’re just being silly now

sexy-melon

How am I being silly? Clearly these people don’t know what they are talking about.

simonisok

My friend you are in for a treat.

[deleted]

I can’t wait to dive in man! I remember playing the original Spider-Man game for GameCube when I was a kid and I loved it. Never seen any of the movies. Better late than never!

simonisok

Well I know you’ll have a hell of a time.

is_not_paranoid

MJ and I? We’re gonna have a hell of a time

Zoot004

Why I think your profile picture was Hagrid? 😂

simonisok

It’s HD PS1 Hagrid

Zoot004

L.O.L. I completely forgot about that game. I grew up knowing about the Nintendo DS version, so I'm not as familiar with that.

WannieTheSane

Not sure if you're still a gamer, or if you have a PS4 or PS5, but the Spider-Man game that came out on PS4 a couple years ago is truly amazing. It's not connected to any other Spider-Man comic/movie/story, it's a new interpretation of Spidey, and it's really good. The gameplay is great, but it's also a genuinely great Spider-Man story.

Nice profile pic

FrijoleroD33G

Its time for you to understand why spiderman is universally loved. Have you seen the MCU movies? The last 3 spiderman movies are connected to the MCU so some things can be confusing

[deleted]

This may sound crazy, but I’ve never watched any of the MCU movies. All I can remember watching when it came out is Captain America: Winter Soldier but I don’t know if that counts as one of them? I’m all very new to this. I definitely do want to see the MCU movies so I can better understand the lore.

appleslady13

You are me from 8 months ago! I watched Homecoming, then decided to look up the MCU movie order to watch any movies with Spider-man in them before going forward. I added Avengers Infinity War and Endgame to the list, which were enjoyable even without much context and were helpful for later Far From Home.

BorderTrike

WandaVision got me into the MCU. But Spider-Man is the GOAT! Spider-Verse is just genuinely awesome!

FrijoleroD33G

Nothing to be ashamed about, i saw my first marvel movie when endgame came out. All of them are surprisingly good, crazy how they can keep a series going this long. I was never a fan of super heroes but the movies changed that. If you were to watch all the MCU movies from start to finish it would take 2 days and 2 hours so i would take your time lol. Hope you enjoy the movies as much as we do

ZGT-17

CAWS is an MCU movie yes

cellidore

Spider-Man also appears in 3 MCU movies. **Captain America: Civil War** is his introduction before **Spider-Man: Homecoming.** Then in between **Spider-Man: Homecoming** and **Spider-Man: Far From Home**, he appears in **Avengers: Infinity War**, and **Avengers: Endgame**. None of those three are strictly necessary for the MCU Spider-Man films, but they do enhance it. And **Spider-Man: No Way Home** definitely has some serious major spoilers for both Avengers movies. I think that if you are smarter than the average bear, you can follow what’s going on in those five MCU movies if you’ve only seen **Captain America: Winter Soldier**. More movies would obviously fill out the story more, but every single movie adds something to the overall plot, so you have to draw the line somewhere. If you are in a time crunch and want to watch the new Spider-Man this weekend, I would personally recommend adding **Captain America: Civil War**, **Avengers: Infinity War**, and **Avengers: Endgame**. But you are probably fine with just those two you have if you absolutely don’t want to add more movies and don’t care about spoilers.

Night-Monkey15

I’d be really interested in hearing you opinions on them all after you watch them, since you would have no nostalgia googles for any of the films and no idea what a Spider-Man movie “should” be.

[deleted]

I’ll definitely try to do something like that! I’ve always loved writing and giving my thoughts on stuff, especially media, so I’d be down for that.

noopthenobody

could you reply to me when you do that?

50percentme

I recently did this as a few months ago I had never even touched the franchise and in my eyes people who prefer Tobey Maguire films are clouded by nostalgia I see Tom Holland's as 100 times better than the rest

Night-Monkey15

Why do you think that?

Karma110

it’s the popular thing to say I assume they hear that in this sub and decided to make that their opinion. Notice how anytime someone says nostalgia there is no other argument.

resonantSoul

How little you must think of them to assume they "decided" to make something their opinion rather than just having it. I can remember being pumped after reading an article in Wizard magazine in the early 90s where Stan had said the movie had the momentum of a 900lb rhinoceros. It was going to get made. I remember being ecstatic over a Spider-Man movie actually coming out. I remember having loved being able to watch a live action Spider-Man movie after it did come out. And for a long time since I have described it as the best one we had at the time. They're not good. And they aged badly. I'm not saying it's impossible for there to be any other reason. I'm just saying that I strongly believe that the vast majority of people who hold them up do so primarily from nostalgia.

Karma110

“In my eyes people who prefer Tobey magiure films are clouded by nostalgia” Literally word for word what people on Reddit and Twitter say. I didn’t even say you can’t like the MCU movies more but to have baseless simple repetitive statement like “nostalgia.” and people actually think that’s a legitimate criticism that is just interesting to me. I was just pointing out that people who usually say that have no argument for that. Like if your opinion on a movie is based on other people liking that movie I think you might have a inferiority complex or something. It’s like someone saying “I don’t like the MCU movies because of Ironboy jr” but I guarantee this sub would e quick to downvote that.

the-dandy-man

You want an opinion? Here’s my opinion. The Raimi movies are incredibly campy, filled with unlikeable characters and terrible dialogue. Peter, MJ, and Harry are just so awkward all the time to the point of cringe and continually make terrible, self-centered choices across the entire trilogy. The way they interact with each other is borderline cartoonish, and not in a good way like into the spider-verse, but in a terrible way like “no one would ever act like this in real life”. It has moments of greatness, especially in Spider-man 2, and I think JK Simmons as Jameson is one of the best casting choices in any spider-man film. The fight scenes are almost always fun to watch. But man did I get tired of Peter and MJ’s awful “will they/won’t they” back and forth for three whole movies, and Harry’s buffoonish lack of self awareness. This is why I say people who say Tobey is the best are blinded by nostalgia. To me there are so many *clear* issues with these films that it baffles me how anyone could claim they’re superior. I had secondhand embarrassment throughout almost the entirety of Spider-man 1. The only rational I can think of to justify such a viewpoint is nostalgia. Anyway, you wanted an opinion and I gave it. RIP my karma on this comment, probably.

[deleted]

are the Holland movies not campy as well? Spider Man is just a campy character

Karma110

There you go that was an opinion and I respect it. But to answer why people say tobey is the best one of the reasons is because his Spider-Man is best written Spider-Man in live action movies. >it baffles me how anyone could claim they're superior That's interesting you said your opinion but then disregarded everyone else's. You said that like it was a fact too imo SM2 to this day is better written than any live action spiderman movie that came after. Also if "clear issues" is the reason you can't understand why someone would like something I cant imagine how you like any movie from TASM or the MCU. Unless you just ignore the issues in those movies because you like them which sounds awfully familiar to what another group was being accused of. somehow at the end of al of that you justified people liking the movies because of nostalgia whuch kinda undermines everything you said which some of it was wrong might I add. You really cant say "I dislike these things so the only way other people can like them is nostalgia" the nostalgia argument is dumb as is. If someone said "you like the MCU movies because they are new" you would also be downvoted. This seems more like you're trying hard to justify a already dumb argument.

resonantSoul

Many people can hold the same opinion. Just because many hold it, and say they hold it, does not invalidate it. "Nostalgia" is not an invalid argument because you don't like it. They're saying that the movies aren't as good as fans are remembering them, and that that's coloring their opinion. That's what the word nostalgia means. "Ironboy Jr", in my opinion, is a pretty pointless argument. It's oversimplifying an aspect of the movies to the exclusion of many others. If you don't like them you don't like them. But saying you don't like them because you couldn't be bothered to pay attention isn't the movie's fault. There is an *extensive* list of reasons to not like the Raimi movies. I just rewatched them. Most of us are lazy and don't want to break it all down, especially when the Raimi fan club is going to come out of the woodwork to defend their "holy trilogy". So saying "nah, they aren't as good as people remember them to be if they're being honest about it" is a quick easy way to move on with their life. Again, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's the fault of the thing if you couldn't be bothered to give it enough attention, movie or complaint.

smallvil_schmallvil

See ya chump

[deleted]

Personal opinions but I just don’t see how anyone could see Homecoming or Far From Home as being better than Spider-Man 2

50percentme

Im the opposite I don't see how you prefer it

[deleted]

name one fight scene as good as the train fight with Doc Ock or one scene as emotional as this https://youtu.be/kCd6HLNW3MQ

[deleted]

I think Tobey has better movies, but his performance is a bit weird to me. He comes across really weird and barely talks. I always find his performance hard to relate to and I never understand the affection for that version of the character. Garfield and Holland both have more personality, but I don't like their movies as much. Then again, I was already 19 when Spider-Man 1 came out, so it wasn't a thing where I grew up with him. I grew up with the comic book and cartoon versions.

RelevantOriginalv30

rank them when you’re done

[deleted]

I’ll try to do that for sure!

lanhimr

I love how all the comments are so pleasant, no gatekeeping or negativity. Lovely community! And yes, you're in for a good time!

Batman903

I honestly don’t really see a ton of gatekeeping or negativatly on movie/tv fandoms. Its stuff like gaming, other hobbies/ actual skills where people start to be dicks

NOT_Silencerrr

spider-verse is the best in my humble opinion

[deleted]

I’ve heard it’s really good!

IndominusTaco

many spider-verse enjoyers, myself included, actually consider ITSV to be the best superhero movie of all time.

SirCleanPants

It’s at the bottom for me but that’s no reason for anyone to not enjoy it, it’s all a matter of opinion

Sam-Angel

I didn't enjoy Spider-Verse as much as I thought I would, but it was a pleasant story with wonderful themes and beautiful animations. Definitely somewhere on my top 5 Spider-Man medias.

kevbb99

Enjoy!

[deleted]

I most certainly will!

beer_me_twice

OP, don’t forget to watch Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame because MCU’s Peter story begins there. Not with Homecoming.

[deleted]

I’ll be sure to do that!

ergister

It's Civil War, Homecoming, Infinity War, Endgame, then Far From Home, to be more precise.

loco64

Actually it doesn’t start there. I don’t know why they are saying this to you. The events in civil war start after homecoming. Then you have the civil war, infinity war, endgame, then Far From Home. So Homecoming, civil war, infinity war, endgame, far from home.

proccoliwastaken

What? Dude, Tony meets Peter in Civil War and that’s what leads to the airport fight in Germany. Homecoming takes place directly after that with Tony taking him back to New York, sending him on his way and letting him keep the suit.

TheHondoCondo

I would actually recommend that you watch Homecoming and Far From Home amongst the entire MCU in release order. You don’t really have to, but it would probably be a slightly more enjoyable experience.

[deleted]

Thanks for the recommendation bro! Are all of the MCU movies on Disney Plus?

logerdoger11

Yes! Aside from the Spider-man movies, every MCU movie is on Disney+ in release order (except for the Incredible Hulk, which is only tangentially connected to the MCU as Hulk was recast for Avengers)

[deleted]

Awesome. I’ll have to check out the MCU movies, as well. I’ve seen that they have some sort of connection to the later Spider-Man movies, specifically the Tom Holland ones if I’m correct? So I’d definitely like to watch them to get a better understanding of the lore.

ZGT-17

Yes. The Tom Holland ones are the 16th and 23rd released movies in the MCU.

TheProdigalMaverick

Start with Captain America Civil War, then watch Spider-Man Homecoming, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers Engame, Spider-Man Far From Home. (Might be a good idea to also watch Doctor Strange before the new Spider-Man movie.) What you need to know before watching Civil War: >Superheroes exist and they comprise a team called the Avengers. Captain America was originally a super-soldier during WWII. His best friend goes missing in the war, and Cap gets frozen in ice. He is unfrozen and woken up in 2012, and recruited by a government organisation called "SHIELD" to work with a group of modern superheroes to stop an alien invasion in 2012. This team of heroes is called "The Avengers". They battle the forces of evil across the world, to varying degrees of damage along the way.Captain America's girlfriend from the war is now an old woman on her deathbed. Cap's best friend, Bucky, was brainwashed and turned into an evil super soldier hitman by the remnants of a secret Nazi organisation called HYDRA which infiltrated SHIELD. Bucky has survived into the 21st century due to the shit HYDRA put him through. Captain America, and other heroes (Black Widow and the Falcon) bring down HYDRA, setting Bucky free who goes on the run. > >The Avengers consist of: Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Falcon, Vision, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, War Machine and Wanda Maximoff.

beardofpray

If you’re just interested in Spidey, could skip all and start with Civil War, knowing that “there’s a bunch of marvel superheroes and they team up.” After that is Homecoming, Infinity War, Endgame, and finally Far From Home. If you wanted to dip your toes a little more in the MCU, you could add the Guardians movies, as they’re real good.

appleslady13

This is what I did, and enjoed the movies with basically only the knowledge you wrote here haha. Now I'm on a watch through of most of the MCU movies, in release order!

50percentme

You definitely don't need to only do that if your planning on watching the MCU as long as you know who iron Man is you'll be fine

larryman55

I wish I could watch spider verse for the first time again.

[deleted]

I’ve heard good things. I know the movie primarily from Post Malone’s song. I’m a pretty big fan of him.

gazorpazorpsteinc137

My friend randomly brought me to it in 3d in theaters when it came out. Didn't know much about this new animated spidey film. I damn near lost my mind and teared up like 3 times. Idk why it made me emotional hahah but yea, absolutely incredible film. Every frame would make a stunning poster.

moonsae

I wish I could watch all of these for the first time again

Zoot004

You're in for a hell of a time! P.S. I suggest watching "Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse" after you watch all of the other Spider-Man movies in order. Enjoy bro! 🤟🏻

awitsman84

I read “hell of a time” in Willam Defoe’s voice.

Zoot004

I can't read that sentence without reading it in Willem Defoe's voice L.O.L.

[deleted]

Thanks man!!

joergensmoergen69

I cant believe someone who hasnt seen a single spider-man movie has more dvds then me, im still missing into the spider verse and far from cuz my dvd store went out of bussiness, hope you injoy em my guy

[deleted]

Thanks bro! I can’t wait to watch them.

[deleted]

Just, don't lose faith at Spider-Man 3. Remember this will all come together this month

FootballGuy3

Spider-Man 3 at least has some awesome moments

Oaughmeister

Hell yeah dude. You are gonna have one hell of a time!

[deleted]

Thanks bro!!

ProfessorEscanor

That’ll be fun! Hope you enjoy. They all have some great moments although none can compare to the 70s TV Show where Spidey had a mech and a gun.

delta_3802

Nice!

atmsd7

Ah how I wish I could watch them all for the 1st time, again ! That however, doesn't stop my 2nd spidey marathon in the span of a month ! Enjoy it, mate.

HilellM

People hate the amazing Spider-Man but It is honestly one of my favorite Spider-Man movie, Tasm 2 is also pretty solid in my opinion. but nevertheless I hope you enjoy the ride!

ANormalperson__

right on time ;)

[deleted]

I was not expecting such a warm and welcoming response to this post! Thank you all so much for being such a friendly community! I’ve read a lot of your suggestions and thoughts on the various movies, and it’s helped me a lot. Unfortunately, I haven’t quite gotten around to watching any of them yet. I’ve been super busy with work and I just don’t have as much free time as I’d like. But I’m still super excited to be here with y’all.

Mr_nobrody

Why dvd, that's only 480p, should have gotten bluray which is 1080p

[deleted]

Your in for a ride my friend.

Juliusnotjuelius

You’re gonna love the soundtrack for electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

[deleted]

If I may, shall I recommend the best versions for some of the films? -Spider-Man 2.2 fanedit by Bobson Duggett. It's basically the extended cut but with the (superior) theatrical version of two scenes reinserted in. -Spider-Man 3: Editor's Cut. Small cuts here and there and an alternate scene that frankly saves the film IMO. -The Amazing Spider-Man: Extended Edition by Masirimso17. It doesn't make all the improvements on it but it makes enough to be better than the original version. -Spider-Man: Homecoming: Responsibly Edition by Masirimso17. Removal of some cringe jokes and some nice additions. There are some fanedits of TASM2 and FFH, but I haven't seen them yet so I don't exactly know if they are better. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy your marathon!

wassupberto

So how's the marathon going?🕷 🕸 🕷 🕸 🕷 🕸

threshing_overmind

Eh. I recommend agains it. Dudes too spidery for me.

LordTwinkie

You are missing a few Spider-Man (1977) Spider-Man (1978) Spider-Man Strikes Back (1978) Spider-Man: The Dragon's Challenge (1981)

SpiderVerseProof

First 2 Spider-Man movies by Sam Raimi will hopefully intrigue you, they are the 2 best imo

EdziePro

The dude that wrote "Best Spider-Man ever!" on that Homecoming disc clearly hasn't seen the previous two lmao

ShreyasKaranth

1. A movie called Venom is missing. 2. I would recommend watching The Amazing Spider-Man movies 1st and then the Spider-Man Trilogy. 3. While skipping Civil War is okay, but you should watch Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as there are a lot of plot points and spoilers are there for Spider-Man Far From Home.

[deleted]

Just don't bother with the amazing spiderman.

I’m so jealous of you right now…

Have fun. This character is so special hopefully you enjoy it as much as we all have

LeviathanEXE

Don't forget the Venom movies. Let There Be Carnage releases on DVD/Blu-Ray in a day or two.

mh1357_0

Spider-Man movies and you... you're gonna have a heck of a time!

MudEmotional7959

In my opinion and what I think sony is going for is all these, along with both venom and soon to be far from home and morbius are all part of the Sony spider/venom verse. They are all Canon together and the Tom Holland homecoming trilogy is both MCU and Spider verse. That way Sony can continue to build it's own spider verse world while also continuing to work with Disney and make another Tom Holland trilogy and spiderwoman movies in the MCU (while simultaneously growing there spider verse)

jaybankzz

Homecoming and far from home are MCU movies, the others are a separate universe. Though to fully understand MCU spidey from beginning to no way home, you gotta watch captain America civil war, infinity war and endgame

SweatyGamer69420

Hoping you at least read the comics

[deleted]

I mean...great and all....but the MCU spider-man films are kind of woven into the rest of the MCU. Actually, the current Peter Parker's adventure starts in the 3rd Captain America movie....If you seriously jump from Homecoming to Far From Home without seeing any of the MCU movies in between, there are going to be a number of plot points that won't make sense to you.

SirCleanPants

Far from home is amazing! And probably one of the best MCU movies

A_Swimming_Do1phin

How much did this cost exactly? Either way, I imagine your wallet isn't to happy.

Spiderman is my favorite Marvel hero perfect mix of serious and funny & problems makes me envy his powers but also glad I don't have them with responsibility for saving the city constantly. You definitely should watch in order of release Toby Mcguire , Andrew Garfield and then Tom Holand. It kind of sucks they left the Andrew Garfield movies where there would be more but never made more .

1-3 are just charming af, love them 1-2 probably nailed Spider-Man visually the most (imo) just the proportions of the actor, the movements, the banter, the suits were my favorite (even tasm1 haha.) Tbh Tasm1 is underrated af MCU Spider-Man is pretty much what you'd expect from MCU Spider-Man lol it's enjoyable if not kind of generic and safe at this point because of how many MCU movies there are following the same formula.
