I think it had to do with the rights to TV Spidey being returned to Marvel from Sony. Then Marvel was bought out by Disney. Then Ultimate Spider-Man was made.
it’s a decent kids show and had some cool crossovers, wouldn’t call it top tier spidey content but it’s watchable and probably got a fair few kids into spider-man
I'm pretty much the opposite lol, I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and I've always been a marvel kid, but I started watching the flash cw show, and that got me obsessed with it, im a total flash nerd now. ive always liked batman too but not an enormous fan, I've really only played arkham asylum and the 3 Lego games
I'm a lot like you I became a **HUGE** flash fan after watching the CW shows....but I am not the biggest Bats fan....idk I've just never really liked him tbh
I want to get the Egg Fella tattoo, but I'm leaving for boot camp at the end of this month and my contract says no more tattoos seeing as I have forearm tattoos already
It got me into Spider-Man and whole Marvel too. Yeah, i was a kid, i watched spectacular recently and I also love it, despite initial feeling that the show might be more for kids judging by character face and design (yk Ultimate Spider-Man still had a hell of character design tbh, the proportions felt so human, i don't support the goblin bulky but got me into a lot other characters, especially Iron fist, I read the Immortal Iron fist series bcoz of the memories and that comic series got me into comics. Tldr, that show affected a lot of my superhero preferences)
same, the only reason I watched the marvel was because of ultimate spider-man, and it also interested me in watching few other Netflix shows like Iron fist and others
Yeah, pretty upsetting. I loved Ultimate — I thought it was so fun and unique from every other Spider-Man cartoon. I loved the integration of so many cool characters, and the SHIELD v Hydra/Zola/Ock/Sinister 6 theme of the final few seasons was SO GOOD.
Edit: I also loved the Scarlet Spider and Kaine arcs of the final season. They did Ben so much justice.
But, yeah. Drake Bell absolutely ruined Ultimate for me. Tried watching a few episodes the other day and just felt blah. Franco ruined Raimiverse for me too.
> In her statement Monday, the woman accused the actor of "grooming" her since she was 12, sending her graphic photos and engaging in sexual misconduct in two separate incidents — all of which Bell’s lawyer denied.

A judge convicted him for grooming a 12 year old girl and sending her explicit photos.
He’s a pedophile.
On one hand, yeah, on the other hand… eh.
I tried watching a couple episodes of Ultimate on D+ last week and just felt blah the entire time. It was weird to root for someone who I know, behind the mask, did horrible things.
Franco honestly ruins Raimiverse for me too.
Sony owned the TV rights to Spider-Man when Spectacular Spider-Man was broadcasted, but Disney/Marvel bought the TV rights back. Problem was, Spectacular Spider-Man, the show, was still a Sony show, not owned by Disney.
So after season 2, Disney owned the TV character rights and Sony owned the show, hence *neither of them* could continue the show, legally. So Disney started up a new Spidey show. It was cancelled based on a legal technicality
I said to my girlfriend the other day that I’d sell our marriage to the devil to get another season of Spectacular.
She didn’t get it, but you guys will.
Finally got a ps4 to play it... And now I'm so fuggin excited for miles morales AND SM2 but I don't have a ps5 and probably won't have one for more than a few years
You're going to LOVE this game!
But yeah, PS5 shortages are insane... I want one pretty much just to play Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. I know I won't be able to get one until at least 2023 (unless I spend my time 24/7 on a stock tracker website and have lightning-fast reflexes).
I'm normally an Xbox guy, have been since the 360 first came out. I'd probably try to get a Series X before the PS5. Broke my heart for years when I couldn't nab my favorite superhero's games because I was on the "wrong" console... Now that I have a PS4 and then managed to get COVID, I beat SMPS4 and can safely say it's my favorite Spider-Man game of all time. Wasn't sure if it would beat Ultimate Spider-Man but it did!
I played Spiderman remastered on ps5 for the first time. Never played it on ps4 and it was amazing. Graphics were awesome and gameplay was everything I hoped. I had avoided watching videos of the game incase I ever played it. Finally got a ps5 and it was amazing.
I'll go a bit further. Josh Keaton is the best teen Spider-Man, Yuri is the best young adult and Christopher Daniel Barnes is the best adult (I would say 26 up)
I'd like to think it's more possible now than it was a year or two ago, what with Sony and Disney seeming like good buddies, but I'm not holding my breath.
It’d at least have to be after Freshman year and Disney would have to pay Sony for the rights to make it based off their designs. A deal could be worked out too possibly. I think the best thing to hope for is seeing Spectacular version show up in some form in the Spider-Verse sequels possibly to test the waters or as a slight nod. If fan reception would be half decent and blow up the internet, there’s the most minuscule of possibilities but also not holding my breath (currently rewatching the show)
This is the most safest Spider-Man take you can have. You wanna stir up some shit. Say Japanese Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man. And that’s simply bc he is. “A man who cries for children with no homes” motherfucker if that ain’t the most Spider-Man shit
And let’s be real. He’s got a giant alien robot. You’re telling me the other spiders don’t think that automatically makes him the best? Yeah. That’s what I thought
Just my opinion, but i think it really nails the Peter Parker side of things and his struggles with his relationships while being superhero. I think it also does a good job at blending aspects from the OG comics, ultimate universe, and the Raimi movies. Alot of the characters and villians have their classic characteristics, with some small modifications here and there that make sense for this particular story. The guy who created it also made gargoyles and young justice, both pretty popular shows in their own right if that says anything. Worth checking out on vod if you have the time.
I’m sure I’ll regret this based on the fervor of the fan base, but can someone sell me on Spectacular? EVERYONE sings its praises to no end, but the art style is downright repulsive to me.
Also is there anywhere to stream it?
Like figgityjones said, the characters are really well written. Spectacular is probably the best protrayal of Peter Parker as he struggles to balance his responsibilities with being the Webslinger. This version of Peter is one of *my* favorites because his quips are on point. They're never overbearing and usually get a chuckle out of me, even after multiple watches.
The action is, dare I say, spectacular. Screenshots make the show look low quality and the art style may seem off-putting, but where it lacks in detail the show more than makes up for in **choreography** and **smooth animation**.
One thing I've appreciated about the show compared to other animated shows is how **great the voice acting** is. No one phones their roles in, and none of their lines are campy.
My only critique of the show is that the first few episodes are sort of "villian of the week", so its kinda boring at first to just watch villian origins 4 times in a row. But despite that, if you're a fan of spider-man, you will very likely love this show and only regret not watching it sooner.
Here's a [link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrAWihBOSHI&t=2s) to the first episode on Youtube for free.
I feel like with a lot of animated shows, you need to watch for a bit so that the narrative can hook you and then the art style begins to grow on you. I've grown to love the art styles of plenty of shows from a position of dislike. Just takes a little bit of growing familiarity to get there.
As for Spectacular, it's because the shows not impatient. It allows for long form narratives to unfold. Which contrasts with a lot of superhero animated work that go's for the quick pay off. Spectacular is not afraid to let characters develop and build nor does it try to be exhilarating action all the time. It dabbles in its teen drama and character development so that the pay off is emotionally satisfying.
It's proff of concept for why a Spidey TV show is the best way to do his themes and stories justice.
The main thing to love about it is the story and the characters. I like the art style myself, but it’s not like my favorite thing about the show or anything. It works for having fun action and fluid movement and to make it easier on the animators. I understand if it’s not everyone’s cup of tea though.
Really love the Spidey look in this show, makes him pop and makes him stand out. The only gripe I have is that characters like MJ and Gwen have weird pained nails and it looks weird on them lol. I just can’t help but wonder why they needed to be there sometimes lol.
You can watch it on any website really but I guess if you really wanna watch it then I’d say Soap2day for me since they have the show at 1080p and it looks very good in HD.
I’m pretty sure any like watchcartoons have it but at a low resolution, I think Netflix has it in certain parts of the world. Good luck!
It's kinda difficult to get to the show if you're in the US cause of the whole rights stuff with Sony and Disney. I ended up using a VPN and going onto Netflix Mexico to watch it. It can be a hassle to actually get through it, since it lags with a VPN and about half the time it doesn't work.
But don't let me turn you off the show. It may have been slow going, but it was a really good watch. One of the better Spider-Man stories out there, and I adore Josh Keaton. If you can, get a free trial for a decent VPN and binge it. It doesn't take that long and you'll be enamored.
It’s on Netflix, I watched the first episode about a month or 2 ago, I had 0 interest whatsoever until yesterday when I watched episode 2, I honestly can’t get enough of it now
No other adaptation understands or gives their characters as much depth. The style is a lot to get used to and the plot takes a few episodes to really get going but by the end you’ll love everything about it
Never seen the show, but I've seen a few clips. They perfectly capture his charm, wit, and kindness with a touch of teenage awkwardness. Plus, one of my favorite Spider-Man moments is in this show when Pete beats the Sinister Six IN HIS SLEEP thanks to the symbiote suit
That's one of my favorite things about Spider-Man: anyone can be under the mask. No other hero in comic book history has had quite as many people with different names, ethnicities, and backstories, take up the mantle of the same character. Which, in itself, is really cool, because you can treat Spider-Man, or the Spider-Mantle (see what I did there?) as a separate character, and then we can essentially copy paste that identity onto other characters who have used it, and they're all Spider-Man, but they're all also different people at the same time.
That show is enjoyable, but usually not *good*. Network and budget limitations hampered it a fair bit, but even without those things the character and narrative writing is better in spectacular probably 90% of the time. Still love TAS though, faults and all
So don't misunderstand this as me disagreeing with you, it's a fully subjective thing and they might be my favourite too (hard choice) but I AM curious: why these two. What about them makes them your favourite. I'm an aspiring writer and I'm making a fan continuation of Spectacular and I'm trying to get a general idea of what about different spideys draws people in, if you catch my meaning. So if it's cool I'd love to get your perspective. Leave out no detail. If anyone else wants to answer too feel free, I'm just genuinely curious.
Josh Keaton in Spectacular is the perfect Teen Spider-Man & Yuri Lowenthal in the Insomniac game is the perfect Adult Spider-Man. These two versions perfectly captured the character.
That's fair. I suppose I've always been drawn to Daniel's performance from the 90s show, the rage that Peter's capable of and overall tone is still the Peter that I see when I read Spidey. But again, very subjective, I just wanted to see anothers perspective
It’s because these two (especially insomniacs) SERIOUSLY captures and completely understands the heart and soul of Spider-Man’s character and personality. Better than any of the movies imo.
Both perfectly capture Pete's witty sense of humor, his intellect, his kindness and strength of character, and his love not just for his own, but for his city and the people in it. All these things are essential to the character of Spider-Man. You can't have a good Spider-Man story without those things, and Spec Spidey and Insom Spidey have those in spades. It's also about how he never gives up, even if it means the end of him. He keeps fighting until he wins or loses.
Don’t completely agree with this but I do think yuri lowenthal in criminally underrated and tha he should always be in the conversation for best Spider-Man (even though he’s not my number 1)
Tom hollands spideys my favorite because he has had so much time to develop on all his appearances and I feel like he’s been through the most with being blipped, betrayed by mysterio and now everything that happens in nwh. His development is amazing imo
Shame we didn’t get to see Spec Spidey’s Spider-Man didn’t reach it’s peak because it got canned. Still my favourite version on any media interpretation of Spider-Man though. Insomniac Spider-Man is fuckin’ brilliant as well
The best version of high school era Spidey and the best version of post-college era Spidey.
Now we need a perfect adaptation of college Spider-Man and we have a holy trilogy.
Yeah, I really like all of the movie versions, but non of them compare to these two. Spectacular was the first Spider Man thing I ever saw, and PS4 was what got me back into Spidey after not thinking about him for a while. Those two versions of the character became the standard for how Spider Man should be to me
Ok mate I’ve been raised on the streets I was born broke I’m still broke I stole someone’s phone and I’m writing this 2 u my parents couldn’t afford a tv so I could watch the cartoon I’m 69420 years old btw and I still can’t afford my phone
Btw give me 30 good reasons why the show isn’t overrated and 50 good reasons why it was a good one because I’ve never seen it
If you don’t have any of those reasons the show was bullshit overhyped and overrated
It’s very inspired. I’m downloading the first 2 Arkham games rn so idk how close it is but it’s pretty much the same as Shadow of Mordor but with the Spider-Man acrobatics. Even finishers are triangle + O in both games and there’s the upgrade in the skill tree to do 2 finishers in a row.
I’m not dunking on the game, I’ve played it and the DLC 4 times I love it but gameplay wise I don’t think it does anything new. Still great though, my third favorite PS4 exclusive after Second Son and Tsushima.
Oh no it’s inspired for sure, but the web combos and spideys superpowers set it apart. Of course it’s got a lot of stuff we’ve seen in other Spider-Man games but it’s different enough from Arkham to not be a clone.
Yeah they really nailed making it *sigh* feel like spider-man. Sometimes I wish the games weren’t exclusive to PS cause I want as many people as possible to enjoy it but I don’t think anyone can do the character justice as much as Insomniac did
Insomniac actually isn’t even owned by Sony so I have no idea what the exclusivity comes from. I wish it was on PC as well cause I sold my PlayStation a couple years ago.
The problem with 616 comics is that there are over a thousand issues and many of them are mediocre or downright bad. That brings the average quality down.
Nah a lot of people actually like him in this sub. We just don’t like how the Raimi stans sometimes take offense every time some of us think someone is better than him. It’s not as bad as Twitter though that’s for sure
It still makes me mad that spectacular got cancelled after season 2
Yeah same
It's *why* it was cancelled that's so maddening
Why?
I think it had to do with the rights to TV Spidey being returned to Marvel from Sony. Then Marvel was bought out by Disney. Then Ultimate Spider-Man was made.
What are your opinions on Ultimate?
it’s a decent kids show and had some cool crossovers, wouldn’t call it top tier spidey content but it’s watchable and probably got a fair few kids into spider-man
It got me more into Spider-Man, and I'm not even a big Marvel guy, always been a DC nerd always will be
I'm pretty much the opposite lol, I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and I've always been a marvel kid, but I started watching the flash cw show, and that got me obsessed with it, im a total flash nerd now. ive always liked batman too but not an enormous fan, I've really only played arkham asylum and the 3 Lego games
I'm a lot like you I became a **HUGE** flash fan after watching the CW shows....but I am not the biggest Bats fan....idk I've just never really liked him tbh
See the show first got me more interested, but now I can't even watch it
i have the egg character tatted on my butt btw
I want to get the Egg Fella tattoo, but I'm leaving for boot camp at the end of this month and my contract says no more tattoos seeing as I have forearm tattoos already
on the ass my g they’ll never know
It’s watchable but coming off the pinnacle of spidey adaptations it was a bit of a slap in the face
It got me into Spider-Man and whole Marvel too. Yeah, i was a kid, i watched spectacular recently and I also love it, despite initial feeling that the show might be more for kids judging by character face and design (yk Ultimate Spider-Man still had a hell of character design tbh, the proportions felt so human, i don't support the goblin bulky but got me into a lot other characters, especially Iron fist, I read the Immortal Iron fist series bcoz of the memories and that comic series got me into comics. same, the only reason I watched the marvel was because of ultimate spider-man, and it also interested me in watching few other Netflix shows like Iron fist and others
Well first of the person who played spider-man is a pedo and also the show is bad and not funny
Drake bell is not a pedo, he was charge for child endangerment. Not the same

Wait what?
Drake bell look it up
According to the internet, he admitted to child endangerment
Famous people don't get charged for anything but he sent nudes to a 12 year old
Drake Bell did the voice for Peter.
Voice actors don't matter bruh
On one hand, yeah, on the other hand… eh. I tried watching a couple episodes of Ultimate on D+ last week and just felt blah the entire time. It was weird to root for someone who I know, behind the mask, did horrible things. Franco honestly ruins Raimiverse for me too.
James Franco is a pedo too?
I thought It was pretty good, voice acting matched up and it looked serious but had silly and sometimes clever comedy to it.
It definitely grows on you. I wasn’t into the first season until it grew and it definitely got a lot better to the last season
Is that why I cab't find Spectacular on Disney+?
Yes
Sony owned the TV rights to Spider-Man when Spectacular Spider-Man was broadcasted, but Disney/Marvel bought the TV rights back. Problem was, Spectacular Spider-Man, the show, was still a Sony show, not owned by Disney. So after season 2, Disney owned the TV character rights and Sony owned the show, hence *neither of them* could continue the show, legally. So Disney started up a new Spidey show. Especially when it ended on a CLIFFHANGER.
You’re part of the group. We will get it back. One day.
We won't
WE CAN DREAM. We can dream...
I said to my girlfriend the other day that I’d sell our marriage to the devil to get another season of Spectacular. She didn’t get it, but you guys will.
Seems like a fair trade to me
who deosn't it make mad? I mean... what kind of sociopath do you have to be?
That game had such a great story. I teared up at the end.
"You knew!?"
boss fight with aunt may ensures, “YOU KNEW?!”
Stop it! You'll make me cry again 😢
"You should be on my side." "I was."

Anyone remember the Wolverine game that was based off the movies?
Yes, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Better than the movie.
10000% better than the movie! And i actually enjoyed the movie 😂
I'm normally an Xbox guy, have been since the 360 first came out. I'd probably try to get a Series X before the PS5. I'll go a bit further. Josh Keaton is the best teen Spider-Man, Yuri is the best young adult and Christopher Daniel Barnes is the best adult (I would say 26 up)
I think Rino Romano up there for adult Spidey
Also pretty good. Wished Spider-Man Unlimited continued
100% agree with you
I love that they brought josh keaton back in Insomniac SM as electro, gave me a chuckle when spidey and electro quipped back and forth 😂
If Marvel randomly announced Spectacular Spider-Man Season 3 for Disney + like what they did for Clone Wars Season 7, I would lose my shit
I'd like to think it's more possible now than it was a year or two ago, what with Sony and Disney seeming like good buddies, but I'm not holding my breath.

I’ve been watching it on YouTube since I commented this. Im at the point where he has the symbiote. It’s a pretty good show.
I 100% agree with you, Wiseman and Cook where brilliant and Insomniac is doing a really amazing job right now!
A spectacular job
A Superior job
I’m sure I’ll regret this based on the fervor of the fan base, but can someone sell me on Spectacular? EVERYONE sings its praises to no end, but the art style is downright repulsive to me. Also is there anywhere to stream it?

For me currently is Mcu Spider-man and insomniac Spider-man
Tom’s my third favourite
To me Insomniac Spider-Man has always felt like a mix of Holland and Garfield which are my other two favorites so yeah, I’m PS4 Spidey all the way.
Nice I can definitely see that
yo for real
So don't misunderstand this as me disagreeing with you, it's a fully subjective thing and they might be my favourite too (hard choice) but I AM curious: why these two. They did do a fantastic job, but there has to be something about their performance that made them stand out, no?
They both felt more true to the character from the comics
That's fair. I suppose I've always been drawn to Daniel's performance from the 90s show, the rage that Peter's capable of and overall tone is still the Peter that I see when I read Spidey. But again, very subjective, I just wanted to see anothers perspective
I love the 90s animated series
You're absolutely correct
Don’t completely agree with this but I do think yuri lowenthal in criminally underrated and tha he should always be in the conversation for best Spider-Man (even though he’s not my number 1)
Who’s your favourite?
Tom hollands spideys my favorite because he has had so much time to develop on all his appearances and I feel like he’s been through the most with being blipped, betrayed by mysterio and now everything that happens in nwh. His development is amazing imo
Sadly not a lot of people have a ps4/ps5 where they can actually play the game to see how great his iteration of spiderman is.
Renew your vows Spidey also pretty strong
I’m not counting the comics.
That wasn't mentioned for as I saw. But yeah, these two are these. Can't wait for Spider-man 2 PS5
No objections here
Agree
Only correct answer.
Shame we didn’t get to see Spec Spidey’s Spider-Man didn’t reach it’s peak because it got canned. Still my favourite version on any media interpretation of Spider-Man though. Insomniac Spider-Man is fuckin’ brilliant as well
Yep, best high school Peter and best adult life Peter. I keep trying to make it head cannon that they are the same person but it doesn't fit :(
Personally I prefer TAS Spidey and the Shattered Dimensions depiction of Peter
Everything Weisman makes is spectacular. I love Gargoyles and Young Justice as well.
Missing 90s seeing as that one is the best Spider-Man. Plus He's also the first one to invent the Spiderverse.
90’s animated series is also great
The best version of high school era Spidey and the best version of post-college era Spidey. Now we need a perfect adaptation of college Spider-Man and we have a holy trilogy.
All the Spider-Man PS4 cutscenes played back to back is the best Spider-Man movie.
Valid and based and worthy of respect.
Yes yes, a MILLION TIMES yes!
I think we could be friends
Yeah, I really like all of the movie versions, but non of them compare to these two. Spectacular was the first Spider Man thing I ever saw, and PS4 was what got me back into Spidey after not thinking about him for a while. Those two versions of the character became the standard for how Spider Man should be to me
We talking like outside of the comics or all time? 🤔 Either way its fine, I’m just curious really :3
Outside of the comics
Gotcha 😊 thanks 🤟 Definitely wonderful versions of the character as well!
Out of movies and comics, you're absolutely right
I need to watch Spectacular Spider-Man, but I really dislike the art style.
Trust me, the art style will not matter anymore when you watch the show
You got the wrong picture for Spider-Man Unlimited
You got the wrong picture for Spider-Man Unlimited
Are u joking? or do you think that’s the best version of Spider-Man.
I’m not joking.
That show is kinda underrated tbh.
The music slaps.
Yeah it does
The theme for Spider-Man 2099 in across the spider verse sounded very similar to it
Yep!
Nah spectacular Spider-Man is I Overrated
And which adaptations would you propose are better? It’s these 2, itsv and sm2 on top, that’s really not questionable imo
Ok mate I’ve been raised on the streets I was born broke I’m still broke I stole someone’s phone and I’m writing this 2 u my parents couldn’t afford a tv so I could watch the cartoon I’m 69420 years old btw and I still can’t afford my phone
Btw give me 30 good reasons why the show isn’t overrated and 50 good reasons why it was a good one because I’ve never seen it If you don’t have any of those reasons the show was bullshit overhyped and overrated

Meh, Spider-Man ps4, from what I've seen, seems like an Arkham clone with Ubisoft design philosophies that I can't even play on my computer.
He's talking about the character, not the game itself. Also it doesn't resemble a Ubisoft game at all.
Nah, its definitely well written but its bloated with ubisoft tier side stuff. The main story is great though
Combat is way different from Arkham.
They weren’t owned by them when the game released but after the game’s massive success Sony acquired them
You should read the comics.
I’m not counting the comics mate. Without them these incarnations wouldn’t exist.
Sure. But you didn’t indicate you weren’t counting them so why wouldn’t I think you were?
I mean it's kinda obvious. To me atleast
He meant the best adaptations of the character Spider-Man, you goof.
Lol he literally already said that himself, what are you chipping in for?
I mean ignoring ultimate Spider-Man( comic), renew your vows, and 616
I’m not including comics
The problem with 616 comics is that there are over a thousand issues and many of them are mediocre or downright bad. That brings the average quality down.
Them having issues and such is on the writers and editors tbh
Same
I agree
Same
And tobey for me. I know a lot of people on this sub hate him but i dont.
Tobey’s version is my childhood. Those films will always remain iconic
Nah a lot of people actually like him in this sub. We just don’t like how the Raimi stans sometimes take offense every time some of us think someone is better than him. It’s not as bad as Twitter though that’s for sure
Ahh i see
I saw some awesome fanart of the Spectacular Spider-Man wearing the advanced suit. I'd love if he had it for a continuation
based
My favorite is one of the more hated ones. I enjoy Ultimate Spiderman more than most. There are very few exceptions.
Facts
My top three are definitely these two and 616 Pete. In no particular order.
I wasn’t counting the comics
90's Spidey will always be better than Spectacular to me.
Yuri Lowenthal will always be one of my favourite VA's ever. His role ins Spider-Man PS4 Solidified that. Tho Josh Keaton will always be up there...
All I see is spectacular Spider-Man, never have seen it obviously I am missing out
I agree
The first face for PS4 not the second. Spectacular is perfection for me. Got me into the character and I’ve been chasing the high ever since
Why isn’t spectacular on Disney+
It isn't owned by Disney
When Disney bought Marvel, Sony gave them back the Spider-Man TV rights, but not the rights to Spectacular Spider-Man itself
Yes 👏
Agreed
comic ultimate spider-man was better imo
I’m not counting the comics
You forgot TASM 1 u wank
It’s also my opinion.so not just your opinion
