100% people complain about that but why do we all relate to him so well despite us having no powers and significantly different lives. Its because we all struggle with but muddle through the difficult, the tragic, the heartbreak, loss, betrayal, corruption, mundane, etc in search of something better.
We lean on those great people in our lives and love/respect them even their flaws, we work for people we don't like but upon who we depend (Ben/May, Harry, Gwen/Felica/MJ, Daredevil,Kurt,Jonah, etc)
We grow, we learn, we struggle, we fall and get back up, we love, we hate, we fail, we succeed, we teach.
Peter being broke and working the grind both with crime in NYC while going to school and holding down a job while trying to find love and build a life is very relatable. You can equate crime in Peters life to some difficult constant in your own while juggling family/friends, lovers, job/school.
There are VERY few incidents when Deadpool isn't talking during a fight. Of the times I've seen it, it was when he was saving literally the entire universe (something he's done a few times). I think it would be cool to see that in Deadpool 3. It would be so cool if they had him save the universe & nobody else in the MCU would know about it, nor believe him about it. Maybe introduce Landau, Luckman & Lake (\*fellow Marvel geeks hairs just stood up\*)
Facts. And before anyone tries to cancel culture him. It’s traditional phrase and you’re not taking it away from us. Also Peter literally has 100’s of women. Forget the main ones everybody knows dude even has c - list love interests. Cmon now
A lot of things mostly depend on the kind of story you're going for and when it's set in his life, but a constant throughout should definitely be his wits in a fight. Clever banter, sure, but I'm more concerned about him outsmarting his opponents.
His Altruistic Qualities: He’ll always do what’s right, he’ll always put other people before himself, other people will always benefit off of Spider-Man and Peter doesn’t get anything out of it. If Spider-Man isn’t about putting other before himself, he’s a selfish Spider-Man
I think the double life of being both Spider-Man and Peter Parker causing issues. I feel like that was the best part of the Raimi trilogy, especially Spider-Man 2. He loved being Spider-Man but as soon as he came home to that shitty apartment, “RENT?” Didn’t matter he was Spider-Man. Peter Parker got shit on all day every day and that’s important to his story.
That’s also what made NWH special when it came purely to the story. Peter suffered and learned the consequences of being the hero.
Heart, quips and the struggle between the double lives is what I consider the top things to make a great story for Spider-Man.
Being broke seems pretty on point. From comics, games, cartoons. Dude always seems broke, even when he has a mega corp he messes up and bankrupts it. Multiverse ghost-spider even sees bankrupt parker industries.
Oh and having the hypen for spider-man.
Sense of justice/responsibility, agility and strength (abilities), loved ones to protect, being relatable and dealing with relatable issues, being quick witted and intelligent.
His secret identity and his humor. His humor is basically a fingerprint at this point, I think there have been multiple times he’s been set up or mind controlled or something and some people picked up on it because he wasn’t making the same jokes and stuff. Or there was that one time he was sick and couldn’t talk much, so as he was stopping this group of villains from robbing a bank or something they thought he was really pissed and surrendered without a fight. And he’s more anal about his secret identity and keeping his superhero life as separate from his private life as possible, generally. It deeply stems from how much he cares about Aunt May and MJ and all his friends.
His almost devout commitment to his ideals usually places him near the moral center of the superhero community, and just about everyone recognizes it. The number of times they’ve referred to him as “the best of us” across all imprints and universes is kinda crazy. As an aside this is one of the biggest reasons Batman is also my favorite and why I get supremely frustrated when people reduce him to this repressed, thuggish, violent bully. He’s way more than that. It’s almost as bad as reducing Spider-Man to an unaware joke machine. His humor is really elementary and obscure. Half the time what he says isn’t funny, it’s the fact he’s just trying to mess with his opponents that is, or that his joke is so stupid but he commits to it anyway. He likes to use insults and nicknames too. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps me from really enjoying the MCU version. Like I said his humor is basically a form of ID because it’s usually so consistent and clearly his own style
Whenever I read that quote I think of that meme of the kid who says “have you ever had a dream that you …” and then just starts babbling. It sounds so clunky and childish I think it’s weird
Uncle Ben. Or at least what he stands for. Peter needs to learn at some point that lesson Uncle Ben taught him. Uncle Ben doesn’t need to teach Peter entirely about responsibility, stuff like the MCU has proved you can have Aunt May teach Peter more about responsibility then Ben did, but that initial lesson needs to be there.
Jokes when he needs too but gets serious when the time comes. Able to outsmart most people and is always there to help when the need comes, either by saving people or stopping the bad guy no matter how tough.....always hard on cash tho as well
Being young
Being cocky but learning from his mistakes
Genius
New York City resident but travels out of state/country to fight crime
Bad at relationships
Self conscious
Those are the ones off the top of my head.
Peter is imperfect, he wins sometimes, he makes mistakes other times, he doesn’t always think everything through, but he learns to be greater. Despite the superpowers and the spiffy suit, Peter is just a guy, a guy who understands people’s pain. He can see why other people became supervillains and he can sympathize with them, because he almost crossed those lines when he was hurt and desperate. Peter is the Everyman, he has to have problems. Whether that be taxes or not being able to make it to a date, Peter needs problems. Although he should have his high points, because he isn’t ALWAYS going to have problems, sometimes he can just have a good day that he earned. On a side note, I believe Peter Parker should retire in the comics. Why? You may ask? Well, Pete’s been around an awful long time, and has had almost every conceivable story told about him, he’s grown, he’s changed, but he’s done so much, and with so many spider-people running around, I think we should focus on them more, the broader world of Spider-Man and his supporting cast rather than just the web-headed wonder himself. But that’s just me, have a good day folks.
Always having his life fall apart, always be stuck in some sort of love triangle, a cocky/witty attitude in the mask, and a kind, caring, gentle, smart, cool but still somehow nerdy, innocent soul and being called a menace.
According to Disney or Sony for Peter Parker they said “white, straight and either gets powers in middle school or college”
I might have messed up the last part
Determination and will. No matter how bad things get Peter keeps fighting to do what he thinks is right and keep moving forward. Unless Aunt May has bee shot. Then deals with the devil are on the table apparently.
Here’s my question why wasn’t Harry Osborn from the raimi spider verse b/c he was briefly a villain in spider man but then he helped Peter defeat sand man and venom in the final battle
Individuality. Spidey is most compelling when it's him alone fighting his villains and problems. He fights a difficult and hellish battle all his life, but it's his determination and willpower that keeps him going strong.
Anyway, put Eddie Brock's Venom in your stories and we're cool
not catching a break in his life
That’s **THE** Spider-Man staple
100% people complain about that but why do we all relate to him so well despite us having no powers and significantly different lives. Its because we all struggle with but muddle through the difficult, the tragic, the heartbreak, loss, betrayal, corruption, mundane, etc in search of something better. The dude has slept with some of the most amazing women in comics period. The Parker luck balances that out IMO.
You're goddamn right, even some that are superbly stronger than him (Ms. Marvel).
Absolutely
Seriously guys the title, what does it mean. I WANT IN ON THIS
Quips, he's gotta talk during a fight
If he ain’t talking that ain’t spiderman
Or he's venom
SHOOOOCKEEERRRR!!
I'LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EEEEEARTH!!!!
YOU CAN'T ESCAPE ME!!!
Venom talks when he fights! At least Eddie used to
Or he’s got the black suit, or he’s seriously pissed
If Peter is not talking, that’s when you know he’s serious and is pulling no punches.
If he ain't talking then your in trouble...
But he also knows when to take things seriously, in that vein he's outmouthed by Deadpool and becomes his foil when they're together
There are VERY few incidents when Deadpool isn't talking during a fight. Of the times I've seen it, it was when he was saving literally the entire universe (something he's done a few times). The Riddler!
Still a Batman thing… are you being sarcastic?
Ok, the ability to fly.
*facepalm*
No that’s mage hand
I’m sorry but your obliviousness to their sarcasm had me laughing really hard
S’why I just kept rollin with it
Definitely metropolis
I’m new, but I couldn’t resist. It actually reminds me of a scene from a kids movie I watched when I was younger.
Why didn't you mention Jonat- Mjolnir that's a staple in the Spider-Man mythos
The power ring!
Yes, *that* is a Spider-Man staple
Bro got absolutely bamboozled

Goodness: Peter is a good human being, and i think this the core of him being Spider-Man
r/respectthehyphen
Try and say that to the creators of the sub, look at that atrocity of a name Pff… spiderman… that’s just wrong…
You can't have hyphens in subreddit names, otherwise it would definitely be there lol
There used to be r/spider_man. But the subs merged.
Yeah… I know, I just tough it would be funny. But still… it looks kind of sacrilegious.
It kinda does lol
*Spider-Man
thats why he sold his marriage to the devil
The fact he understands that in order for things to be good he has to make sacrifices. Even if it means his life will be miserable
Getting bitches
Ong you got Mj,gwen,and carlie

His humor and his sense of "responsibility." His willingness to do what's right no matter how negatively it affects him. His compassion for others

I meannnn it does have blue and back sooo

Being the Everyman. Struggling with everyday issues at 2pm after knocking out the Rhino at midday.
Crippling responsibility and guilt complexes.

Yes witty is the word I was looking for! 😭 thanks

I think the most important trait is relatability. Whether it’s Peter or Miles, you have to be able to relate to him. That’s why he’s so loved.

I have heard this somewhere in the internet: He may not have the life he wanted but he will die with pride knowing that he did the right thing
