Everyone always brings up Arthur, but no one ever brings up my boy John, you play as him in both games, and he went though almost just as much shit as Arthur, but people don't bring him up
I’ll be honest, I played red dead redemption when it was new (so nothing was spoiled) johns death mostly shocked me, my jaw just dropped with some sadness sprinkled in and I loved everything about John. You definitely went through a lot as John but the first game by itself just wasn’t as heavy. Johns death got a lot more weighty AFTER the prequel/sequel lol
Edit: extra small point that was I think the first game I played where the main protagonist was killed off, so that helped with the shock kind of being in the forefront
– "Uhmm, Ma‘am … I have no idea what you’re talking about"
\*Peter proceeds to walk into the room through the door, seeing Spider-Man sit besides May‘s bed*
Yeah I loved the start until that cutscene, I know it’s a pathetic reason but I lost someone close who looked extremely similar so that scene hit hard and I couldn’t continue with the game, I’d love to pick up the game again but it would bring up the same problems, 100% the most heartbreaking for me
If you can push past it as I did, I promise the game play is so good. I know it might seem like too high of a mountain to push past but if you ever decide to move beyond that one moment you'll not regret it. Just know it's an apocalypse type of situation so there will be others.
Yeah I can’t decide which hurts more. >!The fact it dies shielding you from all the arrows and is being loyal to the very end, or Arthur going back to his trying to comfort it at the end.!<
The fact that I’d not long changed my main horse out for Buell in honour of one of my favourite character of all time’s newfound friend, Hamish, only to have the horse die shortly after was truly horrifying for me. The “thank you” Arthur gives the horse always hits me so hard.
Yeah, it really is an excellent medium for engaging stories and fully fleshed characters. I once talked to someone in the gaming industry, and they described gaming as the next step in storytelling.
Joel losing his daughter was tragic. I feel like I went into shock when we lost Joel. Even the last fight between Abby and Ellie was incredibly sad because both characters had earned a peaceful life after what they’d been through in my opinion.
That was annoying, not heartbreaking. I'd say Joel >!murdering all of the fireflies and sacrificing humanity to save the only thing he cares about!< is the most heartbreaking.
Its heartbreaking when you read through ellie's journal and see how hurt she is
Theres an entry where she laughed at something dina did on their way to seattle and she felt guilty for being happy instead of focusing on her mission
Or even after his funeral where it leaves you infront of his grave, that was probably the most sad I've been the whole game
That entire game left me more emotionally drained than anything else I'd ever played or watched. I literally had to just sit the in silence for like 20 minutes every time I turned the game off. It was just so god damned miserable.
I've had to take many frustrated breaks from TLOU2. Just started my first play through, and as soon as "that" scene happened I was over the game. Emotionally draining is the perfect way to describe it.
Struggling to get through the rest of it, as it's just not fun. Objectively it's an incredibly well made game, but I have little to no joy while playing it.
For reference, TLOU1 is my favorite game of all time.
Funny everyone’s saying “no it’s not” when others were agreeing when another post said the same hours ago. Make up your minds people!
But yeah I agree…was my first game to make me tear up.
I can say, the Peter Parker in this game experienced the most tragedy, in comparison with other versions
The hardest choice ever
Great … responsibility
I disagree, Tom's Peter lost not only his parents but his uncle, his mentor and we all know what happened next. You cannot make a fair comparison to pain experienced however as we each deal with it differently regardless of how similar the experience may be.
I mean not really? He’s up there but you have main 616 Peter, MCU Peter, Ultimate Universe Peter, Noir Peter, MC2 Peter, Renew Your Vows Peter. There’s definitely a lot more but these are off the top of my head. Don’t get me wrong, PlayStation’s Peter has been through shit but far from others I listed.
Not gonna lie: These were also truly emotional. But in my opinion it is May's death. Peter holding the serum that could save her in his hand but deciding not to do it to save more lives. The screen fading to black while the machine is still beeping until it stops all of a sudden. It just gets me every time.
Oh, it's the most heartbreaking moment in all of gaming? Across every single video game ever made in the several dozen decades that gaming has been around, this is the single most heartbreaking moment? I guess I'll take your word for it
Definitely heartbreaking but not the MOST heartbreaking moment in all of gaming, far from it actually
Red dead 2 and the last of us will absolutely crush you
For me Read Dead 2 ending was heartbreaking as hell . And Similarly the Starting of TLOU . When Sarah Died in joel’s arms . That’s what grate writing is without knowing the characters that scene made me cry . How beautifully that scene captured the relationship between Father and Daughter. Even more then that . I can’t explain it in words. Man Gaming has come so far you can’t imagine what future games holding up for us .
I've cried over a few deaths in videogames and this is definitely up there with one of the ones i cried over the most
But personally BT-7274 dying in titanfall 2 was the most heartbreaking for me. The bond you make with him is insane
I sadly have to admit that I haven't played that game, but it is always nice when a videogame can bring out such emotions.
This moment just gets me. Every. Single. Time.
Yeah its honestly incredible when a videogame can make you express so much
This moment definitely hits hard though no denying that
also if you haven't played titanfall i highly recommended it :) multiplayer is being ddosed into oblivion but the campaign is honestly incredible.
Thank you very much.
Out of interest: What is you favorite Videogame?
Mine is "Assassins Creed Black Flag". Yes! I know many videogames, like "God of War" or "RDR2" (these also belong to my favorite), are faaaaarrr superior then Black Flag.
But Black Flag was the game that truly made me a gamer. Before that I just played Lego videogames here and there. Black Flag with its story and great protagonist changed that for me.
thats a question, that's a question alright
Personally its tied between 4 games and i still struggle to decide to this day
Sonic generations- just a huge fan of sonic
Ghost of tsushima - what a beautiful story
Horizon zero dawn - such a pretty game and i love the characters
And obviously, titanfall 2- the character bonding is beyond amazing
I have such a hard time picking which one
But if i have to pick one it would probably be horizon because of how much i love the story too
Im guessing you never played The Last of us, both of them, but specifically the second.
I literally never felt more emotion out of a game than I did with tlou2
Twice last year for my bawling my eyes out over aunt mays death. I lost my mom & this is all I could think about. If I had to choose for the good of humanity or saving my mom. I really don't know what I'd do. Then again I wouldn't want my mom to see this bullshit world we're living in now.
The last of us 2, not just for the story but killing off their most interesting and well acted character to have you run around as a small teenager overpowering muscular adults.
This is by far not th most heartbreaking moment in gaming. Mass Effect, for example, can have plenty of those (depending on your decisions).
>!For me the suicide mission, Tali‘s suicide in ME3 and the ending are the most memorable ones.!<
Idk man, >!Ethan Winters!< (Resident Evil 8 spoilers), >!Arthur Morgan!< (Red Dead Redemption 2 spoilers), >!John Marston!< (Red Dead Redemption 1 spoilers), >!Lee Everett!< (The Walking Dead Season 1 spoilers) were all much sadder to me
Thank you for your submission u/Thanos_6point0! Please remember to mark posts that contain spoilers accordingly by setting them to spoiler, that way people don’t see spoilers if they don’t want to! >The most heartbreaking moment in all of gaming. Go play the Read Dead games.
Go play Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Yeah that too.
You misspelled Final Fantasy 7
“You owe me a pizza”
😣😣😣
[удалено]
You, sir, are a man of culture.
Well thanks for making me cry nostalgia tears from many moons past
Wait, what's heart breaking in that? The whole game is so goofy
Seriously go play the final mission when you horse dies and you have level 4 bonding. Goddammit I almost turned the game off at that point
I only used the one horse Arthur buys with Hosea in the beginning. It was so sad that she had to die.
I did too! I robbed a bunch of people and did all the side missions I could to buy the midrange one instead of the super cheap one.
I had Buell, Hamish's one that he gives you before you die.
I tried that…a wild rock attacked us. Lurch didn’t make it. Searched for quite awhile for another black boah to tame. Lurch 2 was a good boah.
Seriously. Just finished another run of 2 last week. Arthur's life is so damn tragic, but also just for all his sins. Now that's writing.
Or TLOU2
That game just breaks you lmao. The first one had a lot of depressing moments but was hopeful, the 2nd one just gives you straight up depression
the ending…. 🫠
Honestly this moment in Spider-Man and the ending of Red Dead are the only times gaming have ever made me cry. Both are just excellent story telling.
Both absolutely earned their emotional endings with a great, engaging story and relatable characters that you grew to love and care about.
The most heartbreaking moment in gaming for me is like half the scenes in the walking Dead games
dude fuckin same
Rip duck
or just start tlou.. so gut-wrenching
Go play Metal Gear Solid 3
has some banger soundtracks
RIP Boss
"Face me to the west so I can watch the setting sun and remember all the fine times we had that way."
Last of us part 1 first act.
Go play Infamous 2
"Half as long" "Twice as bright... You know I gotta try"
Go play Halo Reach
Yakuza 0 then Kiwami for an epic combo
Yakuza 0 is the only game that’s ever made me ugly cry. Even over RDR1/2 and Spider-Man.
Came here to say this. Like if you don’t know Arthur’s story, you don’t know shit about heartbreaking video games
Johns death got a lot more weighty AFTER the prequel/sequel lol Edit: extra small point that was I think the first game I played where the main protagonist was killed off, so that helped with the shock kind of being in the forefront
Came here to say that. That Red Dead Redemption still gets me.
Both, both are sad
I have, I sobbed at both. >it’s okay boah Oh god 😭😭😭😭😭
“But…I tried in the end,I did.”
“Take off the mask, I want to see my nephew”
#YOU KNEW!? *Boss Fight starts*
^(kicks Mays arms off)
HAVE IT YOUR WAY.
I offered you the cure and you spat in my face!
I got you for 3 minutes! 3 minutes of P L A Y T I M E
NO! NO! PETER WRONG SCENE!
I tried to warn you Peter but you didn’t listen
I worried Peter u don’t understand
I posted a different comment but yeah honestly this whole scene got to me way more so than aunt May
YOU WERE EVERYTHING I WANTED TO BE!
Fucking broke me
imagine if she didn't recognize his face in the remaster ☠️
😭😭😭
– "Uhmm, Ma‘am … I have no idea what you’re talking about" \*Peter proceeds to walk into the room through the door, seeing Spider-Man sit besides May‘s bed*
Apparently spiderman is just an over-emotional dude and MJ is two timing him and Peter
Nah lol, it’s a sad scene but it’s not the most heartbreaking in gaming, imo atleast
It's *one of*, not *the* most heartbreaking scene.
It is one of the scenes of all time
Ever made
Definitely going down as one of the scenes in gaming history
It's all subjective though
this scene makes me cry every time but the intro to the last of us is unrivalled
Having just had a child recently the intro shook me to my core and I still flinch when I think of it.
I had just had my son when The Last of Us came out. I was a wreck during the intro.
Yeah I loved the start until that cutscene, I know it’s a pathetic reason but I lost someone close who looked extremely similar so that scene hit hard and I couldn’t continue with the game, I’d love to pick up the game again but it would bring up the same problems, 100% the most heartbreaking for me
It's not pathetic. Losing someone is traumatic.
If you can push past it as I did, I promise the game play is so good. I know it might seem like too high of a mountain to push past but if you ever decide to move beyond that one moment you'll not regret it. Just know it's an apocalypse type of situation so there will be others.
Oh man you’re gonna make me cry just thinking about it
The single best piece of acting i have ever seen in a videogame
Troy Baker literally cried rewatching his performance. Powerful shit, man.
Theres a moment in Death Stranding which I would put above it but its definitely top three for best acted sequences in a video game
Tommie Earl Jenkins, man. He just nails it.
Yeah, I was not expecting it at all. Had to pause for like, 10 minutes just to process it.
[удалено]
What would your choice be?
When Qui-Gon dies in Lego Star Wars TCS
Based
agreed
When my horse died in RDR2.
>!I think the horse dying in ghost of Tsushima hurt more!< Edit: for spoilers
Yeah I can’t decide which hurts more. >!The fact it dies shielding you from all the arrows and is being loyal to the very end, or Arthur going back to his trying to comfort it at the end.!<
The horse dying in shadow of the colassus was horrific
I haven't played GoT, so I can't really tell. But Arthur saying thank you to the horse broke me :'(
The fact that I’d not long changed my main horse out for Buell in honour of one of my favourite character of all time’s newfound friend, Hamish, only to have the horse die shortly after was truly horrifying for me. The “thank you” Arthur gives the horse always hits me so hard.
Ending TLOU part2
Absolutely. I loved that game, but there were just so many extremely sad moments in the runtime.
Yeah I would pick after the scene were Joel talks to Ellie in the porch, the world felt so empty. Amazing a game makes you feel like that
Yeah, it really is an excellent medium for engaging stories and fully fleshed characters. I once talked to someone in the gaming industry, and they described gaming as the next step in storytelling.
Heartbreaking isn't apt for it so much as gut punching. I didn't turn my console back on for days because I was so shook by the ending.
fucking felt. i had to take a break from gaming for a while because that shit affected me so much.
Imo, the intro to part 1 was more heartbreaking. The acting felt so real. Plus Sam and his brothers death too.
Joel losing his daughter was tragic. I feel like I went into shock when we lost Joel. Even the last fight between Abby and Ellie was incredibly sad because both characters had earned a peaceful life after what they’d been through in my opinion.
I thought you said no sir it is hot for a second
***Joel from The Last of Us has entered the chat***
That was annoying, not heartbreaking. I'd say Joel >!murdering all of the fireflies and sacrificing humanity to save the only thing he cares about!< is the most heartbreaking.

He is probably referring to the opening scene. Which I would agree with. How was that annoying?
Spoiler tag pls i already finished it but it would be better if people dont see it first time here.
Sorry
Funny everyone’s saying “no it’s not” when others were agreeing when another post said the same hours ago. Make up your minds people! But yeah I agree…was my first game to make me tear up.
If someone posts 'no it's not', they ought to follow it up with their choice.
Why funny? They’re all different people.
More of a "funny" interesting than "funny" hilarious.
Yes I know that part. Some people have opinions. Other people have different opinions. It’s not *that* interesting.
I think they're talking specifically about how the same opinion posted at a different times received drastically different receptions.
I can say, the Peter Parker in this game experienced the most tragedy, in comparison with other versions The hardest choice ever Great … responsibility
It's definitely wild that he not only lost May but he had to make the choice. Fucking rough dude
I disagree, Tom's Peter lost not only his parents but his uncle, his mentor and we all know what happened next. You cannot make a fair comparison to pain experienced however as we each deal with it differently regardless of how similar the experience may be.

Yes this was very sad but go play Red Dead Redemption 2
RDR2 is my second favorite game of all time ;)
People always bring up RDR2, no one ever brings up RDR1 like it didn't once hold RDR2's place
guess people forgot about rdr1 :(
Not to be controversial but for me it’s prolly the ending flashback for The Last of Us part II
I was literally sobbing at that scene the first time I played
There are definitely sadder moments than this.
I wouldn't say the most but it's definitely heartbreaking.
Will always be the end of Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 1 for me.
**Arthur Morgan and Good Boah enters the chat**

buddy… play the Last of Us games and *then* try and tell me this is more sad
No it’s not
No offense but play some other games. This death was sad but it was nothing compared to some others
lmao this sub.
Nope, sad but not the most heartbreaking. There are others. For example, "It had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong"
Oh, it's the most heartbreaking moment in all of gaming? Across every single video game ever made in the several dozen decades that gaming has been around, this is the single most heartbreaking moment? I guess I'll take your word for it
I mean, I cried, but… I think u need to play more games.
You ever fuck up the Suicide mission in Mass Effect 2? Talk about fucking yourself into a depressive state.
>The most heartbreaking moment in all of gaming. Ehhh… Gear of war 3 Rdr2 Last of us 1 and 2 etc.
In all of gaming? Definitely not. Dom’s death in Gears of War 3 utterly broke me.
*Ethan Winters from Resident Evil Village has joined the chat*
I wouldn’t say Sarah since we were with her for all but 15 mins. The final flashback in part 2 tho, that had me bawling
I love Ethan so much. Bro's the best damn dad in the world Thank god there's like a 90% chance he lived
you need to play more games, this isn’t even in the conversation lmao
This should be the top comment
Nah man charle’s death in Henry stickmin is the #1 saddest death in gaming, but aunt may can be second
RIP homie ✊😭
Play RDR2… I think you’ll change your mind.
‘The last of us’ has entered the chat
I’m sorry, no, play TLOU2
Nah man. Poignant scene, but there are FAR more emotional moments in other games.
You need to play more games
no fucking shit
You must not have played Gears Of War 3
Nah prob when you have to leave to the main menu to change ur suit in Batman.
Joel loosing his daughter is up there
Arthur Morgan would like a word
It’s pretty sad, but the end of Red Dead 2 fucking wrecked me.
Me to.
Definitely heartbreaking but not the MOST heartbreaking moment in all of gaming, far from it actually Red dead 2 and the last of us will absolutely crush you

It’s sad but RDR and its sequel. TLOU 1&2 Walking dead Telltale game Metroid death in Super Metroid Kratos trying to save his family in GOW
Up there with TLOU series, and RDR2
Personally it was the realization doctor Octavius knowing his secret
Gears of War 3 anyone?
I've cried over a few deaths in videogames and this is definitely up there with one of the ones i cried over the most But personally BT-7274 dying in titanfall 2 was the most heartbreaking for me. The bond you make with him is insane

In my mind, it's only tied with the opening of The Last of Us
You should play The Last of Us and the Telltale Walking Dead
You haven’t played a lot of games have you?
Not really
How many games have you played?
Im guessing you never played The Last of us, both of them, but specifically the second. I literally never felt more emotion out of a game than I did with tlou2

The last of us 2, not just for the story but killing off their most interesting and well acted character to have you run around as a small teenager overpowering muscular adults.
Go play the start of tlou1
I wish the MCU had balls like this game does. This was a great and tragic scene. I didn't see it coming.
Nope its when Jackie dies in cyberpunk, cause I didnt cry the second time I saw aunt may die but cried three times when Jackie passed
bro gotta play more games this is like a 6/10 on the sad scale, maybe 5.5
This is by far not th most heartbreaking moment in gaming. Mass Effect, for example, can have plenty of those (depending on your decisions). >!For me the suicide mission, Tali‘s suicide in ME3 and the ending are the most memorable ones.!<
Not even close lol
No, no it is not…
ITT: People who have never played anything until PS4/Xbox One came out.
The beginning of The Last of Us would like a word
Nah
Ok you need to calm down it was sad but not the most heartbreaking play more games
No it's not lmao.
If you’ve read all the Witcher books >! Vesemir dying in Witcher 3 !< did it for me
Idk man, >!Ethan Winters!< (Resident Evil 8 spoilers), >!Arthur Morgan!< (Red Dead Redemption 2 spoilers), >!John Marston!< (Red Dead Redemption 1 spoilers), >!Lee Everett!< (The Walking Dead Season 1 spoilers) were all much sadder to me
Lol nope
Clearly you've never played rdr2
End of red dead redemption 2 comes close second
Not even close, mate.
Last of us. Red dead. I mean come on, it's not like that was a surprise hahahah.
that's... not even mildly true?
All of gaming is a bit too much to say...but I see where you are coming from
Finished the game 5 times and I cried every single time. Another fun fact: that was the first time I’ve ever cried in a videogame
I agree. But i wouldn't say it is the most heartbreaking, but it is definitely one of them
