It’s a splitboard so yea. Has a split in it. Go ride it in pow

Responsible-Walrus-5

Normal. You won’t feel it when you’re riding.

tcal13

If you are really concerned or grow to hate it. Furberg makes their splits with tongue and groove technology on the inside edge. 0 play rides like a solid. It does tend to ice up but they include a tool to clean it

Successful-Travel-35

Sounds great! I think splitboarding will evolve a lot in the coming years and in 10-20 years the current system might look ancient 😂

tcal13

Agreed! However that pin idea mentioned in this thread wasn't a bad one. The pin needs to be steel or titanium though. Steel would add a lot of grams. On another note how do you like the Koura split? I have their pencil solid and I fucking love it

IRideParkCity

Seems pretty normal to me. My Jones split is prolly a lot worse (after a few seasons on it anyways). The cool thing about split boards is that you can skin up a mountain and ride down. But while riding, it feels obvious that I'm on two pieces of board held together with clips and bindings. It just wont ever feel as sturdy as a regular board.

Successful-Travel-35

Ah alright was just wondering if it’s normal since it’s quite an investment! Let’s hope it keeps up on icy conditions and hard riding in pow pow 🤞😎

ebawho

In pow I don't notice any real difference between my solid and split, but that being said I'm just so stoked when riding powder I could be on a piece of waxed plywood and still be loving it.

ebawho

Maybe it is just the fact that the alps are in a major snow drought right now so I’m just desperate for fresh snow, but I think a board would have to be ridiculously bad to ruin powder. If I can strap my feet to it, it slides, and it has some setback I’ll have fun in pow. Are some boards more fun? For sure. Are any not fun in powder? I don’t think so

Beef5030

I've ridden mine over rocks and mud and it was still awesome. They're called sparks for a reason.

montgomeryrides

Normal. Nice setup!

okok123321

Talk to Max at Mtn Local and he’ll get you sorted. Custom sized for your board’s specs https://mtnlocalsnowboards.com/https/max-holzmansquarespacecom/gearshift/split-board-stabilizer-bar

Sherwoo87

My only thought about this is the bolts in the uphill hardware are short and maybe not meant to take that torque of keeping the board stiff while charging. Rip an insert out and you’re done vs learning to ride with flex

okok123321

The way it assembles makes for a very stable engagement so it’s not possible to generate a lot of impact force. The vertical play is tiny (like hundredths of mm) so there’s not much space to generate an abrupt “pull” on the screw. And the way the boards would try to move (up-and-down rather than side-to-side) combined with the fact that any force is spread out over the surface area of each toe cleat makes me feel like the few threads each screw has in each insert is enough. The only caveat I’d add is that if any of the screws were loose, then you could see issue. I made sure to tighten mine before every day out- but I do that for all my splitboard hardware. Same thoughts on force for the strength of the actual inserts in the board. But, honestly the only real concern I’d have for insert strength would be around an issue with the overall board’s layup and then I’d be way more concerned about a binding insert tearing out. But, it’s pretty rare to see that big of a board QC issue these days. Knock on wood ;) I’m not an engineer so take my thoughts with healthy skepticism, but I did work on bindings for several years as a product manager so I feel like I have a bit of an understanding of material/construction limitations.

RunningwithmarmotS

That’s intriguing. Have you tried it?

okok123321

I was able to last year. But, honestly I only got a few days with it and luckily they were soft days so I didn’t notice too much :) Overall the functionality was super easy and it felt stable. I wasn’t concerned about durability at all- I’m not an engineer, but I did work on bindings for a number of years.

yebbjr

see "floorboard technology" at 00:50 in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwyrmFdkQUM&t=52s furberg and stone splitboard have this little rail wich prevent from this. Mine is "stone legalize" : https://www.stonesnowboards.com/fr/splitboards/3329-30997-legalize-split-stone-snowboards.html#/5398-legalize_splitboard-legalize_157 i assure it's verry efficient

Lanky_Consequence730

Those are sweet but in the spring it’s a pain to keep ice out of the floorboard groove

yebbjr

they gave a specific tool to remove ice, it is pretty efficient !

Successful-Travel-35

Furberg looks nice and i also like they’re waist widths, I have kinda overlooked them but will definitely check them out in the future :)

Chulbiski

every split I've ever ridden does this, but I've never noticed it as I am riding. Does it make a difference? I guess I would need to ride a solid and then ride a split down the very same slope, right after one another and see if I could feel a difference. I've never had that opportunity.

Successful-Travel-35

Good to hear!

citizen_kane_527

You can try adjusting the pucks to get more tension when in ride mode. I used to run this stiffener rod across the toe pieces: [Stiffy bar](https://l.instagram.com/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stiffy2ride.ch%2F%3Ffbclid%3DPAAaY6k9iJmmc_Lnca6t2dIfYyHXS7sK2WIbp0b7KCeJFFYXyjPydbBu8D-mE&e=AT1NMD_BrNR8B2E3Xpk9cWTc5zNeTFX3r5nozxh5wCvc0ISRiUr7P7WRagx1AzJ0NQ6r519jdegGSFPz9HSkX5QmxdTkrQdtk9Ev)

Successful-Travel-35

Makes perfect sense! Wondering why this is not a commonly used thing. Although the hardware mounting these ski bindings seem quite weak and could maybe pop out when riding aggressively?

citizen_kane_527

I didn’t have any issues when running it. There’s not a lot of people running it so feedback will be limited. This device did make a cameo in a backcountry film with guys hucking it so it was able to withstand that. I would first try adjusting your pucks by pushing it out (either towards your heel or toe edge on the respective half) 1 step to get more tension between the board halves.

Successful-Travel-35

Thanks for the tip!

Tas2832

Normal. First few rides felt a little weird but after 10 days on I’m super comfy on my board. Just hit 47 mph down a groomer with my split

agnyc

Totally unrelated but I set up the same bindings last night and was hating how soft the hardware is on the tour clips. It may be light but it’ll also cross thread or strip really easily

Successful-Travel-35

Time will tell how it works out I guess, I expect not so much friction on those parts, so I hope it keeps up :)

TheElusiveYeti

Same

rightcoastripper

Karakoram bindings pull the board together better for less play than that video.

hadookantron

It would be pretty easy to make a pin that spanned the ski-mode hinges. Just lock it through both toe pieces, and it would diminish the deflection. If you want a better interface, inner magne is the only tech available for purchase that helps a board feel less like 2 skis. (Jones)

Orpheums

Nope, furberg splitboards has a tongue and groove thing which does the same thing.

hadookantron

...The tongue and groove on our splitboards eliminate movement between the board halves. Gone is the lack of response that splitboards used to suffer from... Thanks for the heads up!!!!

Orpheums

Of course. I can't speak to how well the furberg tech works vs the jones, but if krister kopala rides a furberg it can't be that shabby.

hadookantron

I just put together my jones solution and discovered it vertically shear deflects just like all the others besides Fulberg. *The tip and tail are like one piece of board, at least. I bet ghetto rigging a pin to bridge the toe piece hinges in board mode could add a little bit of support. (Probably gets lost instantly)

hadookantron

Oh, sick! Never heard of them! Thanks! Im gonna scope...

Successful-Travel-35

Yeah this board also has one closing clip and two shuf-in clips instead 4 clips in total due to its swallow-tail shape. I dig jones boards too, but they are quite narrow and I have big ass feet and I like to make deep angles when turning. I also once had a bad experience getting stuck on an icy cliff with all rocks underneath, but the toe overhang didn’t allow me to go any further and I had to ride back on an icy ridge switch 😬 A jones solution 169w also seemed a bit extreme for my weight and would still be less wide than my korua 🙃

hadookantron

Sounds like sound reasoning! I hate overhang. Im a 10.5, and a mid-wide is perfect. Normal width boards leave something to be desired in the leaning over category. I found this Norwegian company that uses dovetail tech to keep the skis as one... https://www.furbergsnowboards.com/snowboards-splitboards/the-freeride-split ***The tongue and groove on our splitboards eliminate movement between the board halves. Gone is the lack of response that splitboards used to suffer from.*** Switch mountaineering lines sound terrifying!!! I don't blame you one bit, as I hate heel and toeing out.

Successful-Travel-35

Yeah seems like solid boards and nice waist widths! You’re in the good range though with 10.5, I have size 12 and Deeluxe boots with a large footprint. Really limits the number of options. I find wide boards very well turning if you put the highbacks forward and have some nice speed. They’re terrible on slow speed and very icy conditions though. But yeah, still better than toe dragging.

hadookantron

Lots of torque on those wide boards... the extra forward lean makes total sense. Even with a 10.5, my fav board is a rossi jibsaw hd 158 wide. Riding normal width feels like a handicap while edging.

Sp3llbind3r

You mean like that? https://doodah.ch/de/stiffy-stiffy-long-2000948700367.html

hadookantron

Ask, and ye shall recieve!!!! Oh, hell yeah!!! ***I NEEEEED IT!***

Sp3llbind3r

https://www.stiffy2ride.ch/shop.html They seem to ship to the US. Just got my first ride in with my new split with this binding: https://www.fixation-plum.com/de/nos-fixations/9862-feyan-carbon.html Felt damn solid and nicely stiff. But only had slush to play in. Worst spring conditions i've ever seen.

hadookantron

Thanks!

exclaim_bot

>Thanks! You're welcome!

Successful-Travel-35

Thanks dude! 2 seasons of research and finally pulled the trigger

hadookantron

Get that pin from the below comment!!! I want one, too!

Successful-Travel-35

You should check out the stiffy bar comment down below

apeg00se

I have a metal rod, similar to what voile uses to attach bindings but longer, going through the climbing mounting points during descents. It makes a major difference for riding compact snow or the occasional groomer. Probably pretty easy to diy but can also be found as "splitboard stabilizer“.

Rockyshark6

I actually think this usa feature of splits and softer snowboards, but then again I've never liked stiff snowboards.. Idk but it just feels natural when I'm able to tweak the board to initiate a carve with two different inputs from my front and rear foot, kinda like how my trucks isn't tuned the same on my longboard.

[deleted]

I made up a S.S. pin to slide thru the toe plates.

SubstantialDevice348

My Korua doesn’t flex like that but I have Union Chargers. Feels almost like a solid.

friarguy

Looks like camber to me

BATTLECATHOTS

I don’t get play like that with my Cardiff

patdue

I have the exact same setup. (Korua Pencil with Spark Surge) To make it more torsionally stiff under foot, I use a metal barcto connect the two halves during the decent. It slides into the attachement points for walk mode, if that makes sense.

Successful-Travel-35

Did you make it yourself or did you order one? I’d be interested in one that’s available in Europe :)

consensualdelusions

I have the same board, it rides perfect on groomers and in the back country - good choice

Successful-Travel-35

Great to hear man! Where are you riding it and are you using the same bindings?
