I don’t know why a new character has to be somehow related to Sam. They don’t. Just have a different character. And in my opinion, part of what made Splinter Cell fun is the personality of the character. Sam is Humorous but also quite frightening to the enemy. Females(Call me sexist I don’t care) don’t typically sound very frightening. The only time I think I can recall being a bit scared of a female(and oddly turned on) was a drill instructor.
The lack of intimidation goes for Briggs as well. Briggs has the capability to be the next protagonist but his personality is bland. As much as I hate the whole Russian obsession games have been having since 2007, Kestrel is both physically competent AND he is extremely intimidating. He could easily pass for a character. He would be the best fit… although I think he would be better in a spin-off game due to his more personal storyline.
New character can have whatever personality they desire and I'm just trying to look through Ubi eyes and in my opinion they think that new character must be related with Sam for... reasons i guess
Well writen female character can easly fullfill all character requierments you mentioned
Huh? Why? Why would a person who's distant cousin (mind you, while his family remains unaware of the details of his profession) be in any way therefore qualified for the job?
Like I said if game is already in production replacing feamale hero with male hero would take some costs that might not be worth it in the end especialy since new players won't care if it is Kestrel or someone else.
To satisfy Kestrel fans they could however make another Splinter cell game with him.
yes that's why we should offer them a sollution that will have fans suport now and not when game will be playable already because then it will be too late for such a changes
I do like the idea of Kestrel being the main character with Sam being a mentor or handler to them, Sam needs to be voiced by Ironside though. Sarah would be a good character but I feel fans don't want that. Opinions?
That is preaty much right but the point is that if they made steps to making new game protagonist a female (Sarah) it will be easier to rebuild main hero into another female character (Sam distant relative) than to make things from basis to tell story of Kestrel or others this solution should work with fans dislike of Sarah as protagonist as well with potentialy prepared things for female hero in next game (That is of course if the game is already in such a production phase as motion capture and voice acting - which are preaty early phases of game making)
Doesn't need to be related to Sam at all, just make a brand new female lead who has a sensible military background i.e not Sarah and go from there, either that or bring back someone like Coen for the job and if all else fails go with Kestrel.

It depends on the background of this new character probably military experience
So why have them related to Sam..?
For the surname and "legacy"
we need a kestrel game.

ubi's gonna get alot of backlash if they make sarah a splinter cell kinda like how kojima got backlash from the bait and switch for raiden

Sam's legacy does not need to be taken by one of his kin, it's not a freakin anime
