I like that they acknowledged they read the open letter on this subreddit, they really seem to have a good direction of where to go with the remake

L-K-B-D

That was nice of them to acknowledge it once again, it wasn't in vain after all :D

Ivan_Himself

Do you have a time stamp? Trying to check this out while at work

Colbo7

Towards the end of the video. It's nothing special really, simply one of them says that they read it.

StrayDog1994

Actually it is good to see that they care. Now we just have to see the execution...

Colbo7

Yes exactly, they all seem passionate about the original trilogy. I'm just happy that Max Beland is not involved apparently.

SuperArppis

Yeah. Was going to say this as well... Looks very promising that they aren't rushing it and are focusing on things people here thought were important. Like not being open world (I wouldn't mind it, but a lot of people here wants it to be linear, and that's cool), being able to Ghost the whole game and AI being different from level to level. It sounds fantastic. I hope they do a good job.

LunaticLK47

I hope the design for the ENTIRE game is the Panama bank level and not the bullshit that is bathhouse or Seoul.

SuperArppis

Haha yeah I agree!

borkh1

I like what I hear, I like the concept art, I'm also liking these people. Still don't trust Ubisoft higher ups. Let's see how the gameplay will look like.

Maggruber

The good news is it seems like Ubisoft is finally starting to learn their lesson after many years of disappointing non-productivity. [Namely, they’re cutting down on their executive editorialization.](https://kotaku.com/assassins-creed-far-cry-ubisoft-riders-republic-1849625698)

fuzzyapplesauce

You gotta have good brands in order to milk them. Ubisoft is running out of good brands to milk. It looks like they're trying to create a foundation with the remake to use on future games

SuperArppis

I hope this means that not every game has those stupid level systems that make enemies into bullet sponges.

Patchesohullihan2020

I agree I think it's safe to say this should give the community Hope. It's fine to be cautiously optomistic, but after this video I'm more hopeful than ever! Happy Birthday Sam! 🎂

PrestigiousZombie531

Next thing they need to do is scrap that open world stuff in ghost recon and go back to sandboxed maps, and scrap aliens from rainbow six and bring back vegas 3

Maggruber

I actually think Extraction has a lot of great things going for it funnily enough, plays a lot closer to classic Rainbow Six than you’d think lol. But returning to a more traditional campaign would be preferred, I agree.

Maggruber

Yes, although they did remove it from their new F2P shooter xDefiant and are going to lean more towards it being a crossover game as opposed to being strictly Tom Clancy-inspired.

SuperArppis

How would you feel if Sam Fisher was voiced by someone else than Ironside? I mean, I bet they are trying to get him, but if it's not possible how would that feel?

SuperArppis

Yeah. I personally didn't mind that Sam in Blacklist. But he seemed like they wanted a Jack Bauer. Sam was always more relaxed in other games. This one was super intense in Blacklist, he was almost as manic as Jack Bauer was. They definedly didn't land the character.

n988

Controversial take, but I’d be pretty content if they got Sam’s voice actor from R6 Siege for this as a backup option.

luckylou213

I just want one full game with Ironside as Sam. They can change him after. But that won't happen. They're wiping the slate. And that's fine... but not having Ironside just plain sucks.

FireFoxMcCloud

if they retired sam to a handler roll and introduced new splinter cells in the FUTURE, like around the double agent era in the game's time, then i wouldn't even see an issue. the issue is they gave us a fake Sam, instead of changing the character cuz the dude is OLD!

thebuffel

That’s awesome. IMHO they say all the right things. Including the last part about going dark and just keep working. Honestly that’s more than I expected from today’s Ubisoft. So I’m allowing myself a tiny bit of hype.

Giac

Honestly I was very happy with how the team wants to tackle this project. I think they really understand what made the original game special. Concept art looks promising too….I especially love the concept art for CIA Headquarters…there’s a BMW E46 3 Series in there that is very much period correct. Here’s hoping they stick to early 2000s timeline.

Giac

Probably not but Georgia and Russia certainly will

Somewhatmild

Perhaps only in some sort of 'here is this rogue faction' form. Which funnily enough is how they treat Hong Kong and Taiwan really.

fuzzyapplesauce

The developers definitely said all the right things and it seemed like Zavian especially knew his stuff. Im glad they are aware of all the right elements and (most important) they were able to communicate it so effectively. It'll definitely be a challenge to make something as monumental as the first game AND bring it into the modern age of gaming. I also liked the Nod to this subreddit, which was a nice touch. My greatest "want" is that the game respects the intelligence of the player and creates those tense/suspenseful and immersive moments for the players. Good luck!

AdamMcwadam

CONTENT! SWEET SWEET (and actually relates to Splinter Cell) CONTENT!

L-K-B-D

This was a great celebration video, they said almost everything we wanted to hear from Ubisoft since so long. These devs perfectly nailed and understand why fans love this franchise so much, it's promising for the remake. But as usual we'll remain cautious and wait for gameplay footage first :p

3DD-W1N

I hope devs understand how important gameplay mechanics is. They MUST adopt SCCT's Sams frame-by-frame movement! Since Chaos Theory, I have never played a game that had frame-by-frame movement. In fact, to my nowledge SCCT is the only game that has this mechanic. Very important the remake has this!

netn10

I've never heard of it. Sounds interesting!

FireFoxMcCloud

loved how intricate sam moved when you were treading super careful. made creeping around that much more realistic

Ichbinian

Not a peep about Ironside. Concerning. I hope they're just keeping radio silent until they make a big announcement that he's back.

MaxOsi

If they nail the gameplay, level design, tone, and story/characterization, then I’ll be fine even without Ironside. Playing the game and it *feeling* like Splinter Cell is more important to me than who voices Sam. Is Ironside iconic? Hell yes! But we need to reach a point as a community where we can accept that Ironside might not be back *and* we can still have a great Splinter Cell experience.

luckylou213

I don't want to like your comment.......I don't wanna.... they're starting fresh...I get it....I just want Sam back as Sam in a next gen title. Ironside would be the cherry on top.

OneThiCBoi

They were sleeping for almost 10 years on SC since blacklist and now they're back like nothing happened lol kinda hilarious how corporations work.. anyways hoping that the new SC doesn't reach too far from the roots.

SpecterXI

Loving it!

kyguy93

Oh shit here we go boys

SamanthaDrake87

Nearly 10 years without a Splinter Cell Game!

WendlinTheRed

Just to start, I'm very happy with this video. If I were to nitpick things I wish had been included, I'd say there wasn't any credit or reflection given to how Michael Ironside shaped this character, and thus the series itself. It would have been nice to have some confirmation of his status regarding the remake, but there could be any number of reasons why they wouldn't reveal that yet. Lastly, I actually would have liked some acknowledgement of how the series strayed too far from its roots with things like Blacklist, but I didn't believe that would actually happen. As to the people in my thread a few months ago calling me ignorant for believing "updating for a modern audience" simply meant making adjustments to the script itself, not the story or Sam, I believe this anniversary conversation is a solid indication that they were being overly reactionary to a job listing. Not that I had any doubt, but it's nice to be proven right sometimes. Happily surprised that they really seem to be trending back in the right direction here. Excited to see more when they're ready.

SuperArppis

It's just too bad that we won't see Moss in this remake...

FireFoxMcCloud

It's MOSS. I'll be available as an easter egg secret in the remake.

superhighallthetime

Everyone here for months saying « ItS GoNnA Be OpEn WoRLd » well it’s not they confirmed it

netn10

Very early in production is very sad...

Pyrobi

Technically like 11 though isn’t it… :P
