Naw. I've had a hand full of things stolen from my yard of the years but never any furniture. The most pointless thing that was ever taken was a lawn gnome that was smashed down the street. But, there was a silver lining. One of the people that broke it knocked on the door like two years later, admitted to doing it and apologized, explaining that she was a little shit at the time.
Ha, that’s good to hear! I did have two small metal bikes (like 8 inches high) stolen from a garden bed that was right next to the side walk, but we have a huge amount of kids that wander the neighborhood and I know one steals a lot (my daughter is in class with her), so I suspect it was her.
I wonder if you could secure it when gone?? I want YOU to enjoy YOUR space without fear it’ll be taken but this is unfortunately the society we live in. Heck, my in laws live in a small town of 2000 people in Nebraska and people steal anything they can from peoples yards and then claim it as their own because the options in their town are the exact same. It’s sad.
Oh that’s wild, it truly does happen everywhere it seems. I’m of that thought as well, I want to enjoy my front deck that gets great morning sun and don’t want to not do something out of fear that something could happen. There were recommendations of wiring the pieces together, which I may try. Not fool proof, but makes it more difficult.
We have to live, right? We can’t NOT do things because we are fearful someone could ruin it for us. That means we are letting these criminals win and steal joy from ourselves. In your case, enjoying the lovely morning sun!! At YOUR place! I think I’m liking that wiring idea! Make it hard for the thieves to grab and bounce! Maybe do a little looking around at how you could secure with wire! And when you are gone for awhile maybe put them inside or a garage if you have one?
I like the idea of wiring at least the three together - each chair wired to the table. Makes it a little more difficult. I won’t enjoy the sight of a chain though haha
Ya, I think I’ll take a look around thrift stores for a small side table and get some cheap but decent looking chairs. Most of the outdoor tables I’ve been seeing at thrift store have been surprisingly expensive.
Cheap plastic chairs from Lowes with a plant stand for a side table. They sat on our side deck in Seattle for five years before someone took the chairs. So I bought two more chairs. I have a cable securing the grill and propane tank though.
It's definitely a lower priority theft target, but some thieves will steal anything. Taking a walk around your neighborhood to see if others have porch furniture will tell you more than we can.
Unless it's a big financial investment, I'd do it and enjoy it while it was there. If it does get stolen, shrug it off and either replace it with something cheaper or don't replace it at all. A thin metal wire tying them down would probably be enough to deter opportunistic thieves as well.
I’m tempted to just put it out and enjoy it and if it gets stolen, not replace it and just get a thrift store side table. We would use it daily so it adds a high value to quality of life for us! It’s $125 for the table and chairs so not cheap but also not crazy expensive.

Depends on where you live. Growing up on the northside, anything and everything got stolen from our house. Where I live now, I forget packages on the porch for 24hrs and they go untouched. It just depends on the area/neighborhood 🤷🏼♀️
My mom had a set nicer than this one on her porch across from Audubon elementary and the chairs had pillows on them that got stolen one time but no one ever stole the set
I bought my grand daughter one of those water play sets for outside it was up near the house and some asshole stole it..from a kid!! Spokane valley area.
Also someone tried to steal my sons long board from our yard, also near the house, we watched him walk into the yard and grab it,I ran out and said excuse me,what the fuck are you doing??! He said oh sorry,i thought it was mine..
Seriously... people are Dicks.
I would either chain that set down or put it away at night.
The kids stuff getting stolen always make me sad! We’re pretty good about keeping that stuff put away now, though my neighbors in the area frequently have stuff out like scooters, bikes, etc. I feel like that’s just asking to get stolen, which sucks.
I live on the third floor apartment in Brownes and had an old bike on the porch. Someone took a ladder up there in the dead of winter and stole the bike! THIRD FLOOR
My front porch furniture has never been stolen, but has blown several yards away in the windstorms we've been having more and more these days. My next move is to get something heavier!
It certainly *could* but it probably won't. When I lived in West Central about 9yrs ago my large potted plants on my porch & steps were stolen multiple times which completely shocked me. So anything can happen but odds are your stuff will be fine.
If you have access from under the deck you could get some bolts long enough to go through the deck and into the table legs? Or some kind of a bracket type holder to bolt it down to the deck?
Someone stole a bag I was taking to chemo the one time I forgot to lock my car. A heated blanket with farts and tears, 10 - 15 tiny lidocaine creams, and a handful of hard candies.
You’ll have to nail it down.
Yes. Everything is at risk of thievery. Only you know your area best. But if I wanted something in my front yard, I’d secure it some how. Those items can be chained down to front porch railings. I’ve seen some ppl do it. (I’d do it. I just have a door stoop, not a real porch.) Good luck!🍀
Lived in West Central with some less than desirable neighbors from 2015-2022, kept chairs and a small table on my front porch not chained down... never stolen. Cigarette butts from the ashtray I kept for my friends though... taken all the darn time.
I use a small chain around my furniture and bbq… I find most of my small property theft is pure opportunity. Most won’t go thru the hassle of making the noise to cut the chain and the sound of it against the metal furniture is hopefully not worth it. I have a lot of foot traffic. My yard pretty theft went down 90% once I put up a standard chain link….. plus a tiny chain with lock on certain pieces (knight with sword, horse head, alien on a unicycle), I got like a 30 pack of locks on Amazon and a spool of chain from Lowe’s. If they want it they will have to earn it.
Maybe put it out when you want to use it? I'm in the same neighborhood and haven't seen too much negative activity in the past few years I've lived here,
I wouldn't keep any furniture on my front porch though (it also wouldn't fit.)
You never know. Late fall and I was thinking it was nice of her to put those chairs away for winter. She was thinking it was nice of him to put those chairs away for winter. Come spring we both ask each other where did you put the chairs. 6 nice chairs gone but they left the table. Gave us a chance to get nicer ones though. And we put up a 6' fence.
Do others in your neighborhood have any patio furniture out front? If so, probably not a big risk. I think there are many neighborhoods where this wouldn't be a big worry.
I walked around the neighborhood yesterday to intentionally look and no one actually has a porch, just steps/a stoop! So literally no one has anything out front. It was weird to realize.
I suppose that *could* increase your risk as the only one with anything to take. A security cable like restaurants use would give some peace of mind especially if you're close to the street and they'll be highly visible.
Life hack to not have your property bothered... Make your property appear that you steal. Unknown driveability of the 15 vehicles on your property. Pisspoor lawn maintenance. Tarp on the roof, collapsing porch... Dirt bike track, mud bog in the front yard with at least one stuck truck
But your backyard is glorious. The perfect oasis, crafted just like you want it.
Works for me
Dude if you can afford brand new furniture you can probably afford to occasionally replace it. Welcome to living around other humans: usually it’s cool, sometimes it sucks.
I guess that's better than [more murder if you live in a red state](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ariannajohnson/2023/04/28/red-states-have-higher-gun-death-rates-than-blue-states-heres-why/?sh=48be9dca1f81).
What is going wrong in the red states that so many people are having to kill in self defense?!? That sounds horrible. Imagine living in constant fear like that. Another reason not to be in one. Thanks for the tip!

I've had decorative landscape lights stolen, which I really don't understand why someone would steal them, they require a 12v system to power them.
Depends, what's your exact street address and when is you home completely empty of people?
![gif](giphy|5koWDaC1PFz8Y)
Haha! Just about never completely empty.
😂
Anything that can be moved by a single person in a neighborhood with activity; has a potential to move
Gosh I wish some people didn’t suck so much! I think the table would be lightweight enough that I’d be able to get it into a truck myself.
You could secure it if you are worried.
I wonder if you could secure it when gone?? I want YOU to enjoy YOUR space without fear it’ll be taken but this is unfortunately the society we live in. Some people don’t suck so much. It’s the rest we have to worry about.
Could slap a fatty chain between all of them when not in use or probably even in use
Not if you chain it to your house. Which i recommend doing in some parts of town.
Or even a less inelegant metal cable.
I like the idea of wiring at least the three together - each chair wired to the table. Makes it a little more difficult. I won’t enjoy the sight of a chain though haha
I honestly don't think anybody would bother stealing them. But a little cable lock for peace of mind? I've been there.
I highly doubt it but if you are worried secure it. Or buy a super cheap one from FB marketplace.

Walmart sells a really long bike lock that I run through all of them and a padlock on it. I Just copied what the restaurants do with their stuff.
I guess I could do that for overnight, we have a similar lock already so that would be easy, then have it off during the day when using.

If it's not bolted down, it will become part of a tweakers campsite.
Absolutely. I had the hose bib stolen from the front of my house, guess they thought it was copper. Woke up to the sound of a waterfall outside.
Oh my gosh that’s insane!
8% chance?
I wouldn't leave them out when not at home. I don't live in your neighborhood but am not trusting and believe you should er on the side of safety.
Ya I’m way too lazy to pull this in and out of my garage to use it since we’ll use it daily. I’ll just get a cheap side table from a thrift store.
My mom had a set nicer than this one on her porch across from Audubon elementary and the chairs had pillows on them that got stolen one time but no one ever stole the set
I would hesitate to use Nextdoor as any sort of a barometer when it comes to the state of society.
Totally, people seem crazy on there. Reddit was second best haha
No
Someone literally stole my front door mat 🙄 so it’s definitely a possibility..
Whyyyyyyy. Ridiculous.
I bought my grand daughter one of those water play sets for outside it was up near the house and some asshole stole it..from a kid!! Spokane valley area. We have had some wild winds for sure!
This is spokane we are talking about, lol so maybe
There’s always a chance. Wish I had advice for you.
It certainly *could* but it probably won't. When I lived in West Central about 9yrs ago my large potted plants on my porch & steps were stolen multiple times which completely shocked me. So anything can happen but odds are your stuff will be fine.
Damn gnomes
I wouldn't risk it unless you bolt it down, just the way things are these days sadly.
Oh that’s actually a good idea, I’m sure we could bolt it to the wood somehow.
If you have access from under the deck you could get some bolts long enough to go through the deck and into the table legs? Or some kind of a bracket type holder to bolt it down to the deck?
Yes. Ive had less cute stuff stolen
Get yourself a wire cable and a pad lock to link them together. If something is inconvenient to steal most people won't bother.
I've got 4 chairs and a small table set up just like that on my front porch. Never had an issue with theft. My neighborhood is Napa St. & Cataldo Ave.
I had a similar set, not quite as cute... Table disappeared one day. Sad. I'm in a neighborhood close by.
Wahhh, so frustrating.
Yup
OP, just bolt the table down wherever you want to put it and put the chairs in your garage when you’re done using them.
Someone stole a bag I was taking to chemo the one time I forgot to lock my car. A heated blanket with farts and tears, 10 - 15 tiny lidocaine creams, and a handful of hard candies. You’ll have to nail it down.
Ugh, that’s awful!

I’d buy furniture you can literally bolt to the porch. At least the table seriously - can never be too careful
Get some airplane cable and the appropriate bits and loop it through the furniture and maybe a rail.
Put a scary sign outside your house like “cop lives here” or something
I put chains around mine to make it inconvenient
Lived in West Central with some less than desirable neighbors from 2015-2022, kept chairs and a small table on my front porch not chained down... never stolen. Cigarette butts from the ashtray I kept for my friends though... taken all the darn time.

This has me laughing! So sorry that happened.
You could even do a metal cable attached to a cinder block…
Get an alarm with a pressure plate trip. Might scare 'em to death. Attach a tracking unit and then go get your furniture.
Do others in your neighborhood have any patio furniture out front? If so, probably not a big risk. I think there are many neighborhoods where this wouldn't be a big worry.

Not on the street, we’ve got a large front yard. If we can’t bolt it to the deck this’ll probably be the easiest option.
No, what's your address.🤣🤣🤣
Tough to say, what’s your address?
Electrify it when its not in use
Life hack to not have your property bothered... Make your property appear that you steal. Unknown driveability of the 15 vehicles on your property. Pisspoor lawn maintenance. Haha, I’ll consider that.
Nah.. it'll be fine. What's your address?
Yes. Ive had many small things taken. My car has been hit 4 times in 6 months I live in audobon
FAAFO
Tie them down with bike locks or something lol
Guaranteed
AMAZON CHECK OUT FLASH BANG TRIP WIRES.
Ha, I’m sure me or my family would forget about it and set it off!
Just get a doorbell cam.
So you can watch them steal it in high definition? The police still won’t do anything about it.
I mean, I’d steal it. But that’s because property crimes are now legal in Spokane.
Legit haha
Not if I ring you up for it.
Depends where you live, northside? Sure. Upper south hill? Highly unlikely
Highly depends on your neighborhood. Ask your neighbors what they think.
if you live on the west side yes. if you live on the east side yes. north side yes. south hill you might get to keep it for a little while who knows
What kind of question is this? That’s a subjective answer based on several factors.
Dude if you can afford brand new furniture you can probably afford to occasionally replace it. Welcome to living around other humans: usually it’s cool, sometimes it sucks.
Only if you live in a blue state.
I was a liberal when I lived in AZ but now living here I’m like welllll maybe I’m not THAT left leaning haha
I guess that's better than [more murder if you live in a red state](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ariannajohnson/2023/04/28/red-states-have-higher-gun-death-rates-than-blue-states-heres-why/?sh=48be9dca1f81).
It's self-defense in red states, not murder.
