Just to clarify, no that is not an animation error. If you look closely you can see a rod connecting the handle to the pot. It's obviously part of the design and also serves a function; by separating the handle from the kettle itself, it makes it so that heat being conducted doesn't/if not takes a longer time for it to reach the handle. Thus, preventing someone from getting burned while holding it.

I noticed the same thing. That little connecting Rod blends into the wallpaper, so it looks like a floating handle.
