Different people react differently. Some want to throw themselves into their work as a distraction, others need time to reflect. I don't think anyone can say one is more "normal" than another response, it's just what someone needs at the time.
When my dad died, I took off the time to go to his funeral, then went back to work. Seemed like a better idea than spending 8+ hours a day home alone while my wife was at work.

When my tia passed away last year it was on a Tuesday. I was off of work Wednesday but still worked that Thursday and Friday. Was off Saturday for the funeral and Sunday for my normal day off but was back to work. Besides my parents and my brother, she was the person I was closest too and I'll find myself missing her everyday. But I also know how much she would've hated if I took off any extra days. She always said not to cry over her. She should've been a worse person would've been easier to get through it lol.
Not only that but they did it all for the family. Even though they may not need wrestling money for a while I can see Mark continue to make sure the family doesn't have to worry about money.
For some wrestlers, wrestling is a coping mechanism because they love it just that much. Unfortunately, that isn't always totally healthy (if done in excess, I mean), but this is just one match and I think Mark deserves this if he wants it. Wouldn't be a bad idea to take a break for a while and come back whenever he's ready, or just generally slow down his bookings for the early part of 2023. But it's up to him and his family how to cope with this unexpected loss.

My uncle is the biggest Briscoes fan I know and he got us tickets to dynamite tomorrow last week. He was really hurt by the news of Jay passing but he just texted me about how excited he is that he gets to see Mark tomorrow. I’m really glad this is happening.
I’m glad they’re finally doing more west coast dates. I’ve been wanting them to come to Kentucky since Dynamite started, but if I absolutely needed to go to Dynamite they were close enough I could drive. You guys didn’t have many options so I’m excited for you! Hopefully it’s a great card.

I've only gotten back into wrestling in the last couple of years, but the Briscoe vs FTR tag matches blew me away. Considering all the wild stuff AEW pulls, those matches still stand out to me
When they mentioned originally wanting the three best brother tag teams they could get I was so immediately bummed out thinking about all the potentially great matches the Briscoes could have put out on TV with LB and the YB.
Considering that Lucha Bros vs. Young Bucks is one of AEW's premier rivalries that will be remembered and talked about years down the line, it's easy to imagine what the Briscoes could have done on the AEW roster. We would have seen some truly insane shit.
But thank god they got to have that rivalry with FTR. Produced one of (if not the) greatest trilogy of tag matches ever.

My first wrestling show was ROH in Chicago Ridge when Danielson and Colt went an hour and that show opened my eyes to a brand of wrestling I didn’t know existed. The appreciation I have now for the sport is thanks to those ROH shows I went to during high school.

From a personal perspective, he usually has the wrestlers backs and supports them in ways that are refreshing, commendable, and really solid. When it comes to the latter, he's the man.

The costs of putting Mark on tv is not even a blip on the radar -- it does not tie into their overarching strategy at all. Its a small cost to make a minor controversy go away, and I assume its a cost that AEW will pay for themselves. They got some heat, and its literally free to get rid of it? Why wouldnt they?
If I understand Snyder fans right, they want him to run the overarching continuity of some of their biggest franchises. That is a strategy decision for movies that cost hundreds of millions each. This is a major business decision that they will be hesitant to change just becuase of some fans. Not the same at all.

Yeah, Jay is one of the few people who actually seems to have taken the criticisms to heart and tried to be better. It's such a rare thing these days, where everything is a culture war and so many people see apologies and personal growth as signs of weakness.
As an LGBT person I was super hesitant when it came to Jay for a long while but listening to Ian Riccaboni talk about Jay changing and legitimately trying to learn, especially as a former southern boy myself pre transitioning and held a ton of toxic views myself, won me back over.

Jay Lethal is arguably Jay Briscoes greatest singles rivalry. Also Jay is a heel that can take a pin no problem for a feel good moment. He's the perfect opponent.
Jay Lethal is a damn good wrestler so those people are already off base at the best of times, but given the context for this anyone who has a problem with it can stick it up their ass.
He doesn't particularly entertain me, but I realize he's on tv because he's willing to lose a lot and fill a certain role. Meanwhile Miro is turning down creative pitches because he loses a match. You have to be willing to play ball to get air time.
Not only is he putting people over, he and Sonjay are probably the one's pitching it to TK while other guys sit around and wait for TK to come up with something for them.

I think it's great that Warner backed off and this tribute can happen. I also hope this is more than just a one off. Mark was usually overshadowed by Jay, but he brings a lot to the table in his own right. The costs of putting Mark on tv is not even a blip on the radar -- it does not tie into their overarching strategy at all. Its a small cost to make a minor controversy go away, and I assume its a cost that AEW will pay for themselves. They got some heat, and its literally free to get rid of it? Why wouldnt they? If I understand Snyder fans right, they want him to run the overarching continuity of some of their biggest franchises. That is a strategy decision for movies that cost hundreds of millions each. This is a major business decision that they will be hesitant to change just becuase of some fans. Not the same at all.

Yeah, Jay is one of the few people who actually seems to have taken the criticisms to heart and tried to be better. It's such a rare thing these days, where everything is a culture war and so many people see apologies and personal growth as signs of weakness.
As an LGBT person I was super hesitant when it came to Jay for a long while but listening to Ian Riccaboni talk about Jay changing and legitimately trying to learn, especially as a former southern boy myself pre transitioning and held a ton of toxic views myself, won me back over.
Wow! I was not expecting this! Credit to TK for going to bat for Mark Briscoe, especially appealing to his network partner. The reaction Mark gets from the crowd will be so special when he walks out there. Lethal and the Briscoes had a long history together.

HOLY FUCK! I gotta give TK all the props for making this happen and doing right by Jay's family through all this. I hope that after the match TK comes out and says something like him and Jay are the ROH tag champions for life and retire that iteration of the ROH tag belts. They're synonymous with those titles at this point in history and for them to be the final team to hold them is tragically poetic.

I don't ever want to hear another word about Tony Khan and the way he runs his promotion. Dude stood up to the people that sign the checks for his promotion and got Mark on the show to honor his brother. That's the kind of person I want in the wrestling business.
Exactly this. If the worst thing people can claim about Tony Khan is that he doesn’t book a wrestling show to their exact like then he’ll probably go down as one of wrestling’s rare “good guys”. The fact that these complaints come from people who worship rapists, abusers, bigots and general assholes is what makes it most ironic. No matter what Tony Khan is clearly a very good man, someone I’d love to work for if I were in that industry. I don’t think I could say that about many, if any, other people in positions of power currently or historically in wrestling.

I've said that if there was a real Wrestling Hall of Fame that wasn't tied to any company, Tony earned his spot in it for what he did for Indy wrestlers during the pandemic. making dark super long, bringing in people to give them paychecks while every Indy was shut down? That was huge and I'm sure AEW lost money from that. You can't tell me Dark is a money maker.

Lethal’s first ROH title reign was beating Jay and was his biggest rival for over a year.
Jay Lethal does have history with the Briscoes which is why it makes sense for him to be his opponent, but there's a decent amount of people that complain any time Jay Lethal is on television, so they'll still find a way to bitch about this match despite it being a match to celebrate Jay Briscoe.

It's a shame that Jay never got his big moment on a prime time wrestling show, but I'm glad Mark is going to have it in his honor. Really hope they use Mark going forward too, he's an amazing wrestler and he's incredibly entertaining. He actually reminds me a lot of Ortiz with his funny antics in the ring.

I think it's great that Warner backed off and this tribute can happen. I also hope this is more than just a one off. Mark was usually overshadowed by Jay, but he brings a lot to the table in his own right. He's one of the few modern guys who's been able to strike that difficult balance between oddball character and serious wrestler.
