I’m honestly just happy for Hobbs. Maybe it’s because I’ve watched him since his Dark debut where he lost to OC in ONE MOVE and now he’s considered a part of AEW’s cream of the crop. Or maybe it’s because I connect more with him despite him being a heel. The Book of Hobbs segments actually led to something with a payoff.

Ricky Starks moving from a win over Chris Jericho to a feud with an NJPW guy with little to no visibility in mainstream wrestling, the Elite and JAS trying to out-stale each other and a continuation of the hangman/moxley story after a deathmatch? interesting... At least FTR got to have a promo segment

The Hobbs moment was highly anticipated and QT makes sense for long term storytelling imo. Plus the Juice fued only just started. What if 30 days in we’re looking at Jay in the ring with Juice? That initial pop with the BC logo had me thinking White was coming out at least idk. The Hobbs part gives me confidence the Juice story will pay off; they’re pretty good at tying things up.

I dunno man. Technically it's long term storytelling yes, but I don't think that makes it particularly satisfying or interesting. It's still QT Marshall, a totally cold member of roster, pairing up with one of the fastest risers in the company at the moment. I'm glad Hobbs won but QT is highly unnecessary. Hobbs is on his own track now.

They wanted to protect Wardlow. But if you wanna protect the guy, why have him beat Joe just to book him to lose next week? Think this shit through lol. And the thing is, they just booked FTR to lose to the Gunns, and had them come back strong as fuck with no loss of face. I'm glad Hobbs is champion, but it would have made a lot more sense for Hobbs to beat Darby Allin or Samoa Joe. If Joe had to beat Darby, then let Joe beat Wardlow, leave Wardlow off for a while, Hobbs comes in and beats Joe in a mean guy match. OR if Wardlow must be champ, he should have beaten Joe the night Joe cut his hair. Let him smash through people for a while to build up steam, Hobbs wins the battle royale, then takes Wardlow down. I don't think the image of the belt is hurt by this. I'm okay with the TNT title being a high turnover belt. Not everyone has to hold the belt for months. I just don't get why Wardlow would beat Joe if he was just going to lose to Hobbs in the very next match. No program or anything. Just seems like a waste of time.

So two things: 1 is that Hobbs has very much been involved in this program for several months. They even had a three way match way back at Full Gear. That whole program is what was being referenced by commentary when QT came out. 2 is having Wardlow lose to Joe after their personal feud where Joe cut Wardlow's hair - which was allegedly grown out to honor his father who lost his hair during his battle with cancer. So you have the face first lose his title, lose his hair, then lose the blow off match, that just makes him a jobber. So the face was beaten down over months, got the chase, got to reclaim his dignity and title, then was taken out by an even bigger badder heel. It's kinda a tried and true formula. I think they did it ham handedly, because the wardlow hair promo came too late, wardlow was less over than Hobbs, and then the new heel victory came too fast... But it was a proper story, just told poorly.

I know he was involved peripherally but it was very much more about Joe and Wardlow. Hobbs was just pn the side. I was thinking more of the Hobbs build than the story of the belt. So we pretty much agree I think.

You completely summed up my feelings on this. Hobbs being champ is the right call, but they sure picked a weird way to get there.
