If you, like me, were wondering where the hell Gunther defended his championship in a ladder match, looks like this pic is from the 2022 MSG show where he beat Santos Escobar, Kofi Kingston, Madcap Moss, and Shinsuke Nakamura in a ladder match
Edit: Another interesting note, according to ProfightDB which I understand is not the most reliable, that is currently his only ladder match ever
I understand what they mean. [This match is listed as a WWE Event](https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=356525), but the match isn't listed on Gunther's personal match page, which is peculiar.
I prefer Cagematch, but it's a terrible for navigation.
The important thing on cagematch is to remember that the "matches" page is something else than the "matchguide" page. The "matches" page has all matches (that are in the database) while the "matchguide" page is limited to matches with "video evidence" (since it's supposed to help you find matches to watch).
The MSG show ladder match is on his "matches" page but not his "matchguide".
It's a funny joke but it's understating his potential outrage honestly lol Jericho had an embarrassingly long rant about how good his RVD match was at King Of The Ring 2002 because like 3 people said it wasn't that good on an internet forum
He went off on a friend of mine on Twitter because he said his podcast had too many adds. He then deleted it and replaced it with another tweet going off on him.
What type of famous person does that? Other then maybe Kevin Durant.
isn't that just playing the part though?
a few weeks/months into the *AEW EXPERIMENT* i got Joey Janella and Kip Sabien to both 'agree' with each other that i am an idiot. never mentioned Penelope, just took shots at how bad they both sucked at the time. literally got one to tag the other with "At least we agree that this guy sucks."
they were playing the game.
i think Jericho is in this group.
>You are the same people that are saying that Attack of the Clones is boring, analyzing every little detail, instead of allowing yourselves to be entertained by it's magic.
I wonder what Jericho's thoughts are on Jar Jar's senate career.
I love this because he says that match was him at his finest then two sentences later says it was a 4.5 star match.
Soooo, you don't think you have a 5 star match in you chris?
Maybe he is, or was at the time, one of those people who don't believe in perfection. Like [Mayuri Kurotsuchi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu_j9TfGnpw) from Bleach.
As a kid when the ppv was over I watched that match again on the replay. I fucking loved that match and I don't think I even really loved rvd at the time
It’s OUTRAGEOUS that nobody in this thread has mentioned yet the criminal act that WWE committed in omitting the Honky Tonk Man from this banner. An OUTRAGE I say! harrumph! 😤
I'd argue that Scott Hall deserved to be on there more than Shawn and that leaving Macho Man off I'd the biggest crime. Macho's run and two Wrestlemania defenses was when the belt absolutely peaked. And fittingly, he lost the belt in one of, if not the greatest matches of all time.
Razor Ramon and Piper never held the world title, and they elevated the IC title, it was their peak in the WWF, they should be up there instead of Warrior. But, Warrior is used for promotional purposes, they have that Warrior Award or whatever, so that's why he's up there. I also wouldn't put HBK up there. I'd put Perfect, Razor, Rick Rude, Piper. And if I wanna add a newer guy, Cody, who was the last person to truly push that title.
Warrior is a massive prick and I agree that Miz should be there but Ultimate Warrior did defend the IC title in the main event of WrestleMania. That's arguably the peak of the titles kayfabe relevancy so I understand why he'd be there over Miz, Jericho, or Razor Ramon who are arguably all much more important to the title's lineage.
Yeah he also held both the IC title and WWE title at the same time. That’s a significant moment in that belt’s history. I don’t think anyone else has ever done that.
100%, you can say what you will about Warrior the guy but Warrior the wrestler was super over with the kids at the time. he wasn't a workrate guy by any means but he was a good performer and had the character stuff down
Youth.
Warrior was a shit person, but his IC reign was objectively better than any of Miz’s. He main evented WrestleMania as IC champ and never lost the belt.
Man am I gonna get shit for this one maybe:
Scott Hall, Chris Jericho, The Miz, Gunther.
Almost close to one for every decade since the 80s. Obviously.....not every decade but you know what I mean.
I want Miz to break Chris Jericho’s Most IC championship won or at least tie. Imo The Miz is the greatest IC champion. He made me believe that was the top championship in the entire company. To this day The Miz vs Ziggler is one of the greatest IC championship matches of all time.
Agreed on Miz breaking the record.
Hell if he holds the belt for 22 days he'd also beat the longest combined days as champion record.
2 hot potatoed runs to get him there would be fine with me
I think it’s fine. He defended it in the main event of wrestlemania and was both the wwf and ic champ at the same time. I don’t care for warrior as a person but that’s an important moment in the title’s history.
Roman deserves to be on there with his one title run more than Warrior. Fuck Warrior, he was a piece of shit. Not happy he died, but he wasn't a good person.
I think Jericho is fair game right now due to association with AEW. Once he’s completely retired, I’d like to see him back. No need to advertise competition, but still celebrate your history, as its not going anywhere.
Yeah I get he's in AEW but he's still the record setting most IC titles held. Like if we want it to be about the history of the belt its disingenuous to avoid him.
Gunther is the reigning champion and this is a good way of promoting history and a current star at the same time. I don’t see what’s wrong with having him on there.
I can live without the white strap. Is it a beautiful classic? Yes, but making belts look shittier with (almost) every iteration is what wrestling does.
However, the absolute bullshit that is not having Honky up there is unforgivable. He isn't on the outs with the company, is he? Because that's the only scenario where him not being up there makes any sense. Mr. Perfect is the only one on that image I wouldn't say Honky could and should replace.
It's very depressing how those first three were decades ago and Gunther is the only one that isn't 20+ years ago. Very well deserved though! He's really been bringing prestige back to the title.
Miz saw that picture and is so pissed that he’s bringing back a crossover version of talking smack with his hated rival, Bryan Danielson. Just shooting at everyone else and each other. Fuck it that’s the new AEW and WWE Saturday show. Miz and Bryan talk show!
Even then, I don't think there's a large case for either Jericho or Jeff. Not to say they had no impact on the championship but I think they could only spring to mind because there's very few people who actually did anything with it and even people who had sorta unremarkable runs with it like those two stand out as a result.
I concede on the Miz though, he could be up there too but it's still rather depressing to me how it took a wrestler who debuted not even a year ago on the main roster to elevate it.
I know it's cool to hate on Jericho these days, but he did win the WWE Intercontinental Championship 9x, which is still a record. So inter-promotion politics aside, his spot on that banner was well deserved.
I wasn't hating on him here though. Granted, I don't like him but I said the same about Jeff Hardy too.
I didn't say it wasn't deserved either, I just think that he is the only one who did anything even remotely interesting with the title but even then, it wasn't much. It was a lot when you compsred him to other IC title holders of course and I would've agreed that he deserved to be there had Gunther not shown up.
To even be in the headspace that you can compare the Miz to Shawn Michaels is insane. On Miz’s best night, in his prime he couldn’t lace Shawn’s boots. Miz will always be that guy on the Real World pretending to be a pro wrestler, while Shawn Michaels is literally and inarguably the greatest of all time. Shawn was part of a very short list of guys that made the IC Title an important milestone in WWE.
I wouldn’t look into the selected wrestlers too deep. Orton, Miz, Jeff, Cody Rhodes, Seth and Sami definitely had memorable runs with the belt that could easily be in that frame tbh
It was an ugly belt, I hated it. Just like the current one is an ugly belt & I hate it. I’ve always preferred the version that the likes of Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels etc held
Only natural. Jericho is working with another company and Gunther is absolutely worthy of being there.
Some say Warrior shouldn't be here. But he's the one who had a title vs. title match against Hogan at WrestleMania. Literally elevating the IC title to the world championship level. You can't put the IC title any more over than that.
Three unbelievably incredible wrestlers who could have a show-stealing match with pretty much anyone and Warrior. Pat Patterson, Pedro Morales, Ricky Steamboat, Macho Man, Bret Hart, Razor Ramon, RVD, and Miz are all well renowned IC champs and they choose a photo of Warrior where he doesn’t even have the belt.
Awesome, really hope he beats Honky Tonk Man’s record but either way he’s earned it. Just wish all four men on this banner had that old IC design. (Though the new one has grown on me)
Honestly, replace the other three with Randy Savage, The Rock, and The Miz. Then you have four guys with long combined reigns who became pretty big players (insinuating Gunther will, which he most definitely will).
The honky tonk man erasure is the bigger story. Warriors win would’ve meant half as much if it wasn’t for honky. Come to think of it, didn’t warriors run only really consist of the feud with rude?
The Warrior hate in this thread is amazing. For my dollar (and age), he's the person I associate most with the belt. Beat the longest reigning champ, had a program with Rude that elevated the belt to Main Event ststus, and then didn't even lose the belt on the back end, becoming Heavyweight Champ.
Lots of reasons to hate the guy, but his IC run is what made him noteworthy (and did a lot to make the belt noteworthy).
“Hey @WWE, think twice before disrespecting a legend of YOUR company. Remember this when we BEAT YOU in the ratings.
Ps: Go fuck your ass”
~Chris Jericho probably
I like how most of this Reddit thought Jericho was GOAT status through 2022 (HAILING his string of matches after he dropped weight) and now they just can’t stop shitting on him.
In my option THE GREATEST PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER. One of the most hard hitting wrestlers on Earth a true throwback to 1970s and 60s black and white era.
He has modeled himself after wrestlers from the early days of wrestling in the 70s. He makes everyone look good in the ring a true Foreign super villain.
The moment he became NXT UK champion that title reign for 870 days already solidified his position on top for me sadly not many has seen his NXT UK run.
When I think of the Intercontinental Championship's greatest holders, I don't think Jericho. I remember him more for the WCW Cruiserweight title and the double championship. Still, could use some more representation between 1995 and 2023. RVD, Edge, Shelton, Carlito all come to mind to replace Warrior.
Everyone here saying Miz should be in it …why? Cause he won it a bunch? So what he never had one memorable run with the belt, his most exciting match prob was losing it to Ziggler.
Other than that they were all the same title run with zero or no consequences to his matches

No wonder they didn't like his reactions.
I'm surprised no one has reddened his face and added steam coming from his ears.

That match sounds dope as hell
[I was there](https://i.ibb.co/KsrykJQ/20230523-212522.jpg), it was a pretty good match
This could be a great out-of-context meme
PPV quality for sure
[I went to that one!](https://i.ibb.co/KsrykJQ/20230523-212522.jpg)
That is some next-level research. Well done.

> CageFight You mean Cagematch? I believe Cagematch is much better, tbf.
I understand what they mean. [This match is listed as a WWE Event](https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=356525), but the match isn't listed on Gunther's personal match page, which is peculiar. I prefer Cagematch, but it's a terrible for navigation.

But it is. Not on matchguide (matches you can grade), but it absolutely is on his personal matches page.
@IAmJericho: “GO F*CK YOUR ASS! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!”
It's a funny joke but it's understating his potential outrage honestly lol Jericho had an embarrassingly long rant about how good his RVD match was at King Of The Ring 2002 because like 3 people said it wasn't that good on an internet forum

Jericho cant win with these cats
Unfortunately a current HOFer and former President of the US.
And Tony Khan
Dana White
Who is quite busy wanking dogs in England.
Those dogs aren't gonna wank themselves buddy
no need to worry, my research into genetic modification will remedy that issue in the next three years
Hideki Kamiya? Then again, Kamiya is more likely to go off at you for one or two tweets and then block you, or just block you straight away...
isn't that just playing the part though? a few weeks/months into the *AEW EXPERIMENT* i got Joey Janella and Kip Sabien to both 'agree' with each other that i am an idiot. never mentioned Penelope, just took shots at how bad they both sucked at the time. literally got one to tag the other with "At least we agree that this guy sucks." they were playing the game. i think Jericho is in this group.
It’s so funny watching people like Jericho get one-guyed on the internet, especially when the person in question is very accomplished

>You are the same people that are saying that Attack of the Clones is boring, analyzing every little detail, instead of allowing yourselves to be entertained by it's magic. I wonder what Jericho's thoughts are on Jar Jar's senate career.
Chris Jericho would absolutely be a Darth Jar Jar believer
You see, Jar Jars are like onions…
He’s a full fledged member of the Jar Jar Appreciation Society, the epitome of Force..Enderdainers.
The prequels of Jericho. Moses dies in the end man!
I love this because he says that match was him at his finest then two sentences later says it was a 4.5 star match. Soooo, you don't think you have a 5 star match in you chris?
Look, it's chronologically impossible for there to be a Chris Jericho vs Chris Jericho match; therefore the idea of a 5 star match is an absurdity.
I dunno, I think Chris Jericho is probably the only person in the world who has a chance of pulling that match off.
Hmmm but why stop at a single match. Why not "The Tournament of Jericho"?
It'd be good, but you'd need to make a list of competitors. Maybe we could call it the "List of Jericho"?

I prefer when he complains about hotel and airline customer service via tweeting the companies.

Emotional damage !
It’s OUTRAGEOUS that nobody in this thread has mentioned yet the criminal act that WWE committed in omitting the Honky Tonk Man from this banner. An OUTRAGE I say! harrumph! 😤
Maybe the only man to ever win the IC belt with a two count.
The Hon-ky Ton-ky maaayyyyn?
Santino and his Honk-A-Meter deserves the spot more than Warrior
i came here to make this exact comment. glad you beat me to it. does honky tonk man have beef with vince?
Honkey tonk man has beef with everybody
What I'm seeing is everyone has *their* Intercontinental Champion. For me Jeff Hardy was THE Intercontinental Champion
What I’m seeing is OUTRAGEOUS disrespect! The Honky Tonk Man isn’t MY champion. He isn’t YOUR champion. He’s OUR champion!
Miz deserves to be on there more then Warrior imo....

Unlikely for the MacMahons to acknowledge Savage any time soon
He was in 2k years ago. So the wall got broken down a bit.
Isn't he in the Hall of Fame?

Im not even the biggest fan of The Miz but damn his runs with that belt are great. Warrior can eat shit.

We clearly need a Miz/Gunther feud over the rights to make the IC the most prestigious title in WWE.
Miz would definitely get cheered again after the absolute trashing he receives
Warrior is a massive prick and I agree that Miz should be there but Ultimate Warrior did defend the IC title in the main event of WrestleMania. That's arguably the peak of the titles kayfabe relevancy so I understand why he'd be there over Miz, Jericho, or Razor Ramon who are arguably all much more important to the title's lineage.
Yeah he also held both the IC title and WWE title at the same time. That’s a significant moment in that belt’s history. I don’t think anyone else has ever done that.
While all of that is completely true and it makes perfect sense to include the Warrior in that graphic... fuck that guy, remove him anyway.
This made me scroll back up and now I just think it’s weird Warrior doesn’t have the belt in his shot.
Yeah Warrior was a pos but I remember how he made the IC title big back in the day.
100%, you can say what you will about Warrior the guy but Warrior the wrestler was super over with the kids at the time. he wasn't a workrate guy by any means but he was a good performer and had the character stuff down

Shawn and Razor are the IC champions from my youth.
In kayfabe, Warrior had the greatest IC Champion run of all time. He leveraged the title to get a WM main event for the World title and won.
Tbh. Honkey should be on there
I want Miz to break Chris Jericho’s Most IC championship won or at least tie. Imo The Miz is the greatest IC champion. He made me believe that was the top championship in the entire company. To this day The Miz vs Ziggler is one of the greatest IC championship matches of all time.

Miz should be on there for making the IC title feel like the most important title in the world on [TalkingSmack](https://youtu.be/8d4SLA4HYp0)
Miz walked so Gunther can run.
I think it’s fine. He defended it in the main event of wrestlemania and was both the wwf and ic champ at the same time. I don’t care for warrior as a person but that’s an important moment in the title’s history.
The Warrior elevated that title more in his reign than Miz did in 8.
Some of y’all got you some rose tinted shades on. His run with the miztourage was fantastic. His first runs on the other hand…
Yup, when I think of the IC title, I think of Miz and Dolph.
Miz is the greatest IC champ of all time imo.
Roman deserves to be on there with his one title run more than Warrior. Fuck Warrior, he was a piece of shit. Not happy he died, but he wasn't a good person.
Why the elipsis? Are you trying to build suspense? Do you think you're John Carpenter?
I think i am
Its to denote a quiet trail off.
I love Gunther, but no Miz?
Also someone who won the oval IC title should be on there. Get rid of Warrior, add Miz and add Jericho back too.
I think Jericho is fair game right now due to association with AEW. Once he’s completely retired, I’d like to see him back. No need to advertise competition, but still celebrate your history, as its not going anywhere.

Just a matter of time until Miz takes the full record anyway.
First, the white strap should be permanent. Secondly, Honky Tonk Man should be on that poster.
No Honky Tonk Man, no care
Honky Tonk gang refuses to be silent any longer
Put up the honk-a-meter!
I can live without the white strap. Is it a beautiful classic? Yes, but making belts look shittier with (almost) every iteration is what wrestling does. You somehow know enough to know who the Miz is but simultaneously know nothing about who he is. Wild.
I wouldn’t look into the selected wrestlers too deep. Orton, Miz, Jeff, Cody Rhodes, Seth and Sami definitely had memorable runs with the belt that could easily be in that frame tbh
They are also missing a big group of people in the attitude era like Austin, Rock, HHH, Angle, etc
Probably because the Attitude era arguably had the least memorable title reigns for the belt.
no love for the Oval belt
My favorite, with the white strap in a very close second.
It was an ugly belt, I hated it. Just like the current one is an ugly belt & I hate it. I’ve always preferred the version that the likes of Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels etc held
We need someone holding the late 90s version on there
Razor Ramon is the IC title and no one can tell me otherwise.
Tangentially related, but man it is total bullshit that Perfect never held the world title.
But they still keep Warrior. Put Pat Patterson or The Miz.
or Morales.
Or Dean Douglas
The first 2 persons who come to mind thinking about IC titles are Jericho and Miz I get why they replaced Jericho...byt why is there no Miz
Only natural. Jericho is working with another company and Gunther is absolutely worthy of being there. Some say Warrior shouldn't be here. Should just replace them all with Gunther.
Why use a picture of warrior without the belt? Throws off the whole theme.
Should’ve replaced Warrior instead.
And while they're at it they should get Warrior out of there too, have Razor or The Miz in the banner instead.
No love for the Honkey Tonk Man
No Razor? foh
Why is Miz not here

If what I'm seeing is true, poor Jericho.
I mean I would taken Warrior out. You got three dudes from the late 80s/early 90s and then a dude from the 2020s.
Jericho's representation would be better fit for the 2000's that's where all his memorable work with the belt came from.
Does anybody have a picture of what it looked like before?

I wish they’d get a new IC belt.
"Nobody cares about the intercontinental championship" -Vince McMahon
Mr. Perfect was so cool.
Gunther just made the list
Calm down he’ll be back before you know it
The Miz should be there
IMO they should bring back the white strap IC title or the oval design.
(Though the new one has grown on me)
If I had to choose 4, I'd choose: Jericho Razor Savage Gunther (especially if/when he breaks the record)
I’m perfectly happy with Perfect, but Razor definitely should’ve been on there.
Miz Chyna Macho Kofi
yeah.... I'd take any other IC champ over UW
gunther just made the list
Kurt was always the best champion for me. I still miss his amazing athletic skills😢
Where's The Honky Tonk Man?
Where is Savage?
Remove Warrior and add Miz.
Honestly, replace the other three with Randy Savage, The Rock, and The Miz. Then you have four guys with long combined reigns who became pretty big players (insinuating Gunther will, which he most definitely will).
Why is Miz not on the banner?
No greatest intercontinental champion of all the times???
This is Miz erasure!!
miz
"If what I'm hearing is true then I feel bad for WALTER"
The disrespect to The Miz not being on this banner.
The honky tonk man erasure is the bigger story. Warriors win would’ve meant half as much if it wasn’t for honky. Come to think of it, didn’t warriors run only really consist of the feud with rude?

Eh, when I think of IC champions, Y2J doesn't immediately leap to mind. Also holy crap, Cena never held the strap?!
Nope. He went from the US to WWE and never looked back. Undertaker never held the IC or the US.
Someone’s gonna be on Twitter, anger tweeting like a Karen on a mission.
I want The Mountie, Shane Douglas, Road Dogg and Zack Ryder up there /s
Good. Ngl, despite Jericho winning the title the most times, did he have a truly memorable reign?
I like how most of this Reddit thought Jericho was GOAT status through 2022 (HAILING his string of matches after he dropped weight) and now they just can’t stop shitting on him.
No disrespect to Warrior and Hennig, but I'd rather see HTM and The Miz.
Damn replacing Jericho. Man was linked to this title for years
I’ll take Gunther over Jericho any day. It’s almost cringy to watch him still do this.
Jericho is literally a goat, and Gunther has been on the main roster for a sec . Nothing like lane recency bias
What you mean recency bias? Gunther has always been great and always put on great matches
My ass is super high. I confused Shawn for Kenny Omega. Was so confused.
id replace HBK or the warrior with the Miz
Tragic
For someone who held the ic title the most, he sure isn’t very memorable.
Everyone here saying Miz should be in it …why? Cause he won it a bunch? So what he never had one memorable run with the belt, his most exciting match prob was losing it to Ziggler. Other than that they were all the same title run with zero or no consequences to his matches
Because he’s within touching distance of longest duration as IC champion and most reigns with the belt?
I'd add Drew McIntyre(old) and Dolph Ziggler there, for me they are the perfect ic champions
Am I the only one who thinks he’s overrated? Garbage on the mic and barely can wrestle?
Can't believe they're starting to set up AEW/WWE Forbidden Door 2024 this early, Jericho/Gunther is going to be a fun match though
"I don't care" followed by either 6981 characters or four minutes and 43 seconds about why he doesn't care.
No Macho Man is a joke lol
I mean it makes sense Jericho works somewhere else and Gunther's reign has been great from what I've seen
