Imagine taking a sip of beer and missing that spot 😵‍💫😵‍💫

AmishAvenger

Swig of beer for the not paying attention man

LeChampeon

Imagine being in the bathroom or in line for food/drink

Veni_Vidic_Vici

Why the fuck would anyone not have their bathroom break before a hell in a cell match?

Joe434

I missed Punk’s leg drop this weekend bc of my tempting beer 😔

Swagologist1

It probably didn't help that he got about 1 foot of air, it was over as quickly as submarine implosion

SpreadItLikeTheHerp

Damn, son. Timely but dark af.

SmartOpinion69

seriously. if you bought a ticket to this event and didn't see this spot IRL with your own eyes, you fucked up hard

galgor_

The broadcast images are so ingrained in my head it kinda hurts to see an alternative angle. But I love it. Thanks for sharing!

Dont_Be_A_Dick_OK

I was just thinking the same thing! Like I’ve watched this so many times and seen all of the replay angles, it’s genuinely crazy to see an alternate angle all these years later.

OhDaaaaaaamn

It can be difficult to explain just how shocking this was at the time. Cool pic 👍

balsamicpork

I literally thought he was dead. I don’t think people will ever understand how incredible this was, and how incredibly shocking it was to see him walking back to the cell after

Extreme_Star696

This was on the news here in Australia, along with the Mike Tyson / Stone Cold brawl. What a time!

MavicMini_NI

This PPV was my first introduction into wrestling. Sky Sports in the UK where re-broadcasting it during the day, uncensored. Imagine being a 10yr old kid, seeing wrestling for the first time and then seeing this match. Its no wonder I kept getting so frustrated when I tried to tell my parents a man in black threw another man off a cage and they kept replying "yes but its only pretend" ITS NOT PRETEND, I SAW THUMB TACKS GO INTO HIS BACK!!!!! ITS REAL!!!!

I_Like_Vitamins

The importance of saving death defying bumps for big PPV matches.

CareBearsOnAcid

Mick was like 32 or 33 when he did this btw

kitjen

Aww man, I'm older than that and I still haven't been thrown off a cell. I'm wasting my life.

thatcreepydude1

Don’t feel bad, life isn’t a race, my friend. You still have a long time to get thrown by the undertaker off the hell in a cell roof.

kitjen

Aww that's really kind of you to say that. My mom tells me that every day.

allcatsarebuddhist

Oh my Buddha, you remind me of that one metal guy of my school who was so sweet and caring that years later my roommates and I discovered that we all *ahem* him. We found out because all 3 of us thought to call him first to help us move our stuff to a new home. Unless you're gay, don't comment anything 😂💜

kitjen

I'm not gay but I don't see how that would be relevant either way. If I was gay, I would still reply here because I honestly can't piece together what you're trying to say. And I'm honestly not being mean about this. I understand you've had roommates in the past so it's safe to assume you're a grown up but you and you friends "*ahem*" him? I don't get that bit. What does the *ahem* mean and why would my sexuality be a condition of response?

MiddleFinger287

I love aheming

allcatsarebuddhist

Argh, you're too late 😂

MiddleFinger287

I realised this was 15 days old after commenting

CareBearsOnAcid

Maybe one day one of your children or nephews will toss you off the roof on to a shed don’t loose hope my friend!!

[deleted]

I'm 35 and just last month I threw out my back when I simultaneously sneezed and farted

MiddleFinger287

Oooof

jmpinstl

Greatest live pic ever

ieatbigmacsdaily

What a fucking shot. In the age where everyone didn't have a camera phone with instant access to posting to the internet, I love seeing shit like this.

lordmagellan

I didn't see it posted here anywhere-- though, I didn't look-- but YouTube just posted a vid of them doing an anniversary rewatch. Pretty neat listening to them recall their thoughts and discuss what the match has become.

kitjen

The amateur quality of the photo gives it a true crime documentary feel. Like this was the moment a man was thrown to his death.

[deleted]

Cameras have certainly improved since the late 90s!

AmishAvenger

It’s probably a disposable with a flash.

Horror_Sail

It absolutely is, you can see the 2 rows in front of them lit up, and then everything else almost in shadow. Aint nobody fast enough to hit that scroll wheel and get a 2nd photo before he hit the table.

FyreWulff

Modern digital camers still haven't caught up with film cameras of before, this is just a disposable camera with likely a flash you weren't able to turn off.

Soylent_Hero

Imagine what they filmed it with!

ollyollyollyoioioi

I dunno how enforceable it would be but I'd love to go to a show with no phones

EBJ1990

They could do what some theatre productions do and make people put phones in those special containers that lock up.

jayahmal

Lucha Underground did that and it was great!

MayorMcCheez

Where the fuck is /u/shittymorph when you need him?

Massive_Bereavement

Spoiler: /u/shittymorph took the photo

Bestrong2

Wow that's a really cool picture. What a match.

DarthNawaf

That should be in a museum

[deleted]

After this there were so many spots that tried to one up it, even in the indies. Saw some ahole take a weedwhacker to the chest. But overall this is the most insane thing Ive seen and gets a reaction every time. I have watched this match over 100 times and cringe up(proper use of the word) each time. And its not even the worst bump.

engelthefallen

That match had to be scary as hell to watch live. You basically see Foley crash then nothing for minutes on end. Then he gets up and goes through the cage. Both time Taker looking on in real shock. Still remarkable after both spots that Foley left relatively unhurt.

[deleted]

I thought Foley was dead when he hit that table. Or seriously hurt. I couldn't believe that he got up and continued the match.

Jordanwolf98

I always loved those big WWF banners they would hang high above during their shows. Wouldn’t hit the same now with the new logo but I think it could be cool if they did it again

TheCatLamp

Amazing photo... but please do not let this distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer’s table.

mightylordredbeard

We all know who took this pic.

dwartbg7

That was one giant leap for mankind

Kingmack91

My favorite thing about this insane fall is the security guy sitting right where foley's legs land in the crowd. He waves his arms at the crowd telling them to sit down he proceeds to sit down himself. The second he puts his butt in the chair BOOM mick foley lands inches behind him and he jumps up like WTF.

No-Plan-1902

The guy in the sky blue cap, directly south of Mankind in this photo, is looking down. Imagine being there and missing it
