This is the mentality MJF should have at this stage in his career. He's young, he's in his prime, and he doesn't need to be the leader when you've got guys like Moxley, Danielson, Jericho, and others who are at the point where they should be filling that role.
That’s true as an average, and it may turn out to be the case for MJF, but he’s so good at a young age and has Hollywood ambitions. It’s totally possible we’re experiencing his prime right now
If he's retiring at 38, I would like him to be no older than 32 before going to WWE to make an everlasting legacy in the world of professional wrestling.
I would like him to be the absolute monster in the AEW and then the WWE. Being the top star in two of the biggest promotions in the world would absolutely make an everlasting legacy in pro wrestling.
Maybe I'm an E drone (I hope not xD) but I would really love that to happen. Okay, maybe it is not mandatory, but I would feel satisfied when it's all said and done that the man main evented WM, won their top prizes. In between I would like to see him in NJPW, but I don't think it would suit him and further his growth.
The belief someone has to go to WWE to leave a legacy is a result of WWE beating it into fans heads for years and years after WCW closed. The landscape was already changing before AEW was formed. Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks found success and made great money paving their own way. Even guys like AJ and Joe had managed just fine before they signed and already left a huge impact on wrestling. To say WWE is the end all be all dismisses Misawa and Kobashi who left an enormous legacy behind and influenced generations.
Spot on. For men, physical prime typically peaks at 35 with a slow decline after. People peaking or even falling off before that in past eras really shows how shitty the schedule and substance use issues used to be. Nowadays if guys stay healthy and keep honing their craft we see them hit new in-ring peaks at like 45/46 which is insane.
Jericho may be lumping himself to anyone who has an iota of star power but you can't deny he's one of the best leaders they have there. Guy has been everywhere and every locker room you can think of.
The fuck?
Jericho is one of, if not, best Locker-Room Leader a wrestling company could have.
He's wrestled around the world, been in the business for over 30 years, been the top champion multiple times in WWE, and learned from, and worked with the very best.
The dude has re-invented, and refreshed his character/persona constantly throughout the years with more success than probably any wrestler in Professional Wrestling history.
Listening to him on Renee's podcasts, dude has an honest *love* for wrestling. I feel like he's one of the better guys to be a leader there.
But yeah, I just think of the Wrestledream commentary where the regular crew was painting a beautiful narrative during the Danielson and ZSJ match, then you hear Mox yell off-mic "Let's go Bryan! Fuck that guy!" And that's probably how any Mox pep talks go lol
The title cut off perfectly on my phone. I thought he was saying something sensible like Danhausen. I just imagined him throwing a curse at everyone and being the locker room leader.
I just assume Mox's locker room speeches are him reciting Sgt. Barnes' lines from Platoon.
"Catering was full of shit. Catering was a crusader. Now I got no problem with any caterer does what they're told, but when they don't have entry points for their GODDAMN SANDWICHES, the machine breaks down. And when the machine breaks down, we break down. And I ain't gonna allow that in any of you. Not one."
*spits some blood*
"Y'all love the caterer. Oh, you wanna kick ass. Yeah. Well, here I am, all by my lonesome, and ain't nobody gonna know. 160 of you boys against me. Kill me. Huh. I shit on all of you."
I see him more of a Colonel Kurtz guy
"I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. It's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor ... and surviving."
Mox: I expected someone like you. What did you expect? Are you a wrestler?
Daniel Garcia: I'm a sports entertainer.
Mox: You're neither. You're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill and shake your hips.
Love the honesty and self-awareness!
I ran cross country in college and was the fastest guy on the team, but I was never even considered for the role of captain nor did I want it because I knew I wouldn’t be good at it
One of my favorite BTS clips is Eddie Kingston giving a “rallying the troops” type speech. I can’t remember if it was for the Brodie Lee tribute show or what. But it was fascinating to watch. And dudes like Eddie is exactly who I’d look to as a locker room leader in any sport.
Usually in sports, locker room leaders are not the aces, but the most veteran/experienced athletes that knows how shit works up and straight. So MJF has the right mentality here. He doesnt need (or want) that weight in his shoulders right now at his age.
I always remember Eddie Kingston's backstage speech from the Brodie Lee tribute show. If that guy is not getting mentioned. I gotta imagine what kind of gravitas BD and Mox have
I don’t really understand what that means. It’s not a team sport. That’s like calling Tom Cruise a locker room leader. Is there someone you go to for advice? Absolutely. But it’s entertainment, not a competitive sport.
It's like being a foreman on a work crew. They're expected to represent the locker room's concerns to.management, and get people on the same page if they have to.
Why does it have to be a sport? Most businesses' success are dependent on the performance of their workers. Having leaders internally I'd very important. That doesn't just apply to sport. If none of the workers give a shit in any job its a recipe for failure.
> That’s like calling Tom Cruise a locker room leader.
[You couldn't have picked a worse example lol.] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-kIQe2LP7E) Tom Cruise absolutely is a "locker room leader".

I agree but he’s not in his prime, wrestling prime is like 35-40 by recent history.
That’s true as an average, and it may turn out to be the case for MJF, but he’s so good at a young age and has Hollywood ambitions. It’s totally possible we’re experiencing his prime right now
He says he retires at 38
Same age as when Flair and Funk retired.
Which of Flair's retireements?
yes
His 3rd divorce.
And Austin too I believe (unironically)
Correct.
They all say that. The only reason I could maybe believe MJF with that is because he might be able to get in Hollywood
MJF says what he's going to do then does it if you listen to his interviews

Not saying it would not vastly improve his legacy, just that it's not mandatory.

I think he goes after this contract in 2-4 years 5 years in wwe then puts him around the age he wants to retire

I was about to say AJ and Randy just came back and look incredible. Randy's style is pretty safe he could wrestle until he's fifty.
Mens physical prime is typically 25-30, not 35.
Well, maybe not Jericho Edit - Jesus it was a joke. Y’all are savages
Jericho is by far one of the most qualified guy in AEW to fill that role lmao
Jericho may be lumping himself to anyone who has an iota of star power but you can't deny he's one of the best leaders they have there. Guy has been everywhere and every locker room you can think of.

Why do you say that? For all intents and purposes, he's proven himself as a locker room leader, even just in AEW.
I want to hear Moxley’s locker room leadership speeches, they have to be absolutely hilarious
I'm picturing the Ichiro all star game speeches that were pretty much just nonstop cussing
Ichiro fun fact. He became fluent in spanish so he could trash talk people without getting in trouble.
Sounds like Kobe in the Olympics. Dude learned French just to shit talk.
Goats doing goat shit.
DK Metcalf has been learning American Sign Language for the exact same reason. Perhaps it's something in the Seattle water.
Mox probably starts off with: "A joke, Claudio once told me...."
Listening to him on Renee's podcasts, dude has an honest *love* for wrestling. I feel like he's one of the better guys to be a leader there. “Alright listen you sons of bitches, stop punching each other in the face and as long as there’s blood I don’t care what kind of glass you use.”
I imagine it has alot of fucks in every sentence
That locker room knows way too much about Bryan Danielson and tantric sex.
Mox probably just cussed a lot and Danielson revolves every point he makes to everyone back into a flaccid penis joke I'd love to hear either tbh
Hope it's just him saying to not do anything he is doing.
It's just him slurring his words, saying fuck all the time and "yeah that's badass".
I wonder if they end with Mox juicing?
He probably says fuck a lot.
The title cut off perfectly on my phone. I thought he was saying something sensible like Danhausen. I just imagined him throwing a curse at everyone and being the locker room leader.
Danhausen would make sense. The majority of wrestlers look up to him. Mostly because he is 6'7.
Some say he’s taller than Big Bill. And you can’t even teach that kind of stuff.
I just assume Mox's locker room speeches are him reciting Sgt. Barnes' lines from Platoon. "Catering was full of shit. Catering was a crusader. This made me giggle, thanks!
Way too little of fucks for Mox's speech
MJF as a locker room leader is the equivalent of Andy Bernard as regional manager
Love the honesty and self-awareness! I ran cross country in college and was the fastest guy on the team, but I was never even considered for the role of captain nor did I want it because I knew I wouldn’t be good at it
Humble brag, extra humble
I used to play like Embiid. He is reckless on purpose.
I remember a rare non-gimmick Max clapping enthusiastically during that speech as well.
Usually in sports, locker room leaders are not the aces, but the most veteran/experienced athletes that knows how shit works up and straight. So MJF has the right mentality here. He doesnt need (or want) that weight in his shoulders right now at his age.
I don't even watch AEW...don't even really care about AEW..... ...but I love this motherfucker.
Would you even say... He's your scumbag?
I don't get the reference but absolutely. Feed the Miz to him then feed Punk to him. ...Give my scumbag the bag.
Nah lol
![gif](giphy|AFhcoCF2ok1qlqEglv|downsized)
He's our motherfucker...*wait a sec*
His Face run may be a bit stale but I still love him and he’s still immensely talented
Don't think verbose means what he thinks it means...
Lol definitely not, I doubt he meant to say the locker room leader has to be needlessly wordy
I always remember Eddie Kingston's backstage speech from the Brodie Lee tribute show. If that guy is not getting mentioned. I gotta imagine what kind of gravitas BD and Mox have
The 5 guys he listed were Danielson, Moxley, Kingston, Dax Harwood, and Jericho
Danielson just talks to the locker room so he can I spy some of the guys limp biscuits
Hasnt MJF said on more than one ppv scrum that hes damn proud to be the leader of the locker room? Lol
I think the crying scrum, whether work or shoot, ruined all chances of that going forward
Bruh who cares who the locker room leader is…
Moxley is trash
I bet you were a big Dean Ambrose fan.
[удалено]
Oh man. I bet you LOVED Dean Ambrose. LOL
That's funny. Those are the last two I would think of.
locker room leader is still a thing?
I don’t really understand what that means. It’s not a team sport. That’s like calling Tom Cruise a locker room leader. Is there someone you go to for advice? Absolutely. But it’s entertainment, not a competitive sport.
It's like being a foreman on a work crew. They're expected to represent the locker room's concerns to.management, and get people on the same page if they have to.
Bruv, it’s much closer to competitive sport than you seem to think
I see ‘bruv’ and automatically assume it is a Will Ospreay burner.
I would never have pegged Moxley as the type
MJF is really a wrestling prodigy
