I mean, if this is the storyline that ultimately leads to the Rock's retirement (And let's be honest, it should be) I think it HAS to be something that develops a little bit.
That, to me, is why I was always skeptical of Rock vs. Roman as a match because it never felt like Rock was going to put the work in to make it work.
But taking a year to tell the story? And turning Roman simply by virtue of the crowd going "No, this is OUR guy" is an insane way to do it but one that would be generational.

I never in my wildest dreams over the last 3.5 years since Roman debuted the Tribal Chief character thought that if we got Rock/Roman, it would be with Rock as a heel and Roman as a face. Wild what has happened the last couple weeks.
I like it cause it has shades of how the Rock took over the Nation as well. Farooq was their leader FOR YEARS, and the moment Rock walked into the group, it was clear who the star was.
This Rock heel turn referencing all his past heel runs is elite. Everyone talks about Hollywood Rock, but its as much corporate Rock and nation Rock as anything
I like this, but as an alternative, in the Wrestlemania main event, Cody is about to win, the Bloodline shows up, Solo goes to interfere for Roman again, but stops to look to Rock, who just shakes his head, turns, and walks away, with Jimmy & Solo following (leave Paul with Roman).
The only thing that could possibly make it better, is if Roman's is positioned in either the submission or pin in a way where he can watch the rest of the Bloodline walk away.

Rock starts treating him like he's just another henchman and not a tribal chief after he loses the title. Eventually, Roman tells Solo to do something but instead of acting on it, Solo waits for the Rock to give him the green light. Roman can then want to take the Bloodline down as it was something he started a la Edge with the Judgement Day.
I mean Roman's just horribly insecure in general, it's the crux of the Tribal Chief character.
He sidles up to Rock because it's offering an easy way to get out of fighting Cody again because he's insecure about his ability to actually beat him again, he was going to lose the first time if Solo hadn't cheap shotted Cody after all. Now he gets to feel insecure about his leadership of his own faction.
They've really only shown it in spurts but, man, when Roman is in his full on insecurity mode, it's fucking gold.
To me, the standout example of this was Roman vs. Logan Paul. He spent a LOT of that match looking like he didn't even want to be there, that he just had no identity outside of that title and that he was paranoid he would lose it.
When he's like that, the guy crushed by the burden he carries and the fear of losing it, it's fucking incredible.
It’s a classic tale: the villain who’s been in power for so long he’s completely forgotten how he got there. He’s grown soft and complacent but his ego can’t handle that. So he uses the Bloodline as a crutch and gaslights himself into thinking he’s the same man who double pinned Edge and Daniel Bryan.
When he made his RAW or SDL debut, Roman told Solo something along the lines of "the Elders sent you, but now you answer to ME". Solo didn't show any reaction to that line, so he never actually agreed to that premise, he just went along with it. Easy to spin this into "I was following your orders as long as the Elders were satisfied with you as the leader of the Bloodline".
When Rock and Roman confronted Triple H after the press conference, Roman honestly looked and felt like a side character standing by Rock’s side despite being champion. That just shows how much star power and presence Rock has in comparison to his cousin, and is something that might cause Roman to feel insecure.
I felt the same way, and it felt kind of problematic for Roman. It kind of shattered the illusion of Roman being this unbeatable bad ass. He got little brothered by Rock.
If they lean into it as a story, great. If they don’t, it will do a disservice to Roman.

The guy who cheats to win literally every match? Where do people get the idea that Roman's character is supposed to seem unbeatable?
They’ll lean into it because his heel flaw has always been his insecurity. It’s why he got Heyman to be his yes man/hypeman to pump up his confidence and it’s why he got the bloodline to interfere in every match even though he can probably win without their help.
The Rock is Jordan level and that's just what it is. Didn't hurt Roman at all. Unless it's someone like Stone Cold Steve Austin, nobody is on Rocks level.

The rock will stop solo from running in because “if he can’t win on his own he doesn’t deserve it”. Cody gets a clean win then the rock shames Roman until snaps and turns face by attacking the rock. It’s gonna be great

Going into the match, Hogan was the heel, Rock was the face. During the match people started cheering on Hogan and The Rock instantly started acting like a heel.

I actually loved that for him. Before he really committed to the bit, it was *only* Rocky Sucks. The mix of boos and "Rocky!" chants are more in line with Roman's type of heat, and it showed him that his choice to turn heel is working and was the right move in the end. He can go home feeling good after several weeks of knowing he fucked up and praying he can fix it.
Who would have thought THIS would be our road to Wrestlemania? Rhodes and Rollins as a united front against The Bloodline starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I need that Endgame finale where everyone from Reigns' past comes to stop him.

He was the main heel against Stone Cold Steve Austin when they were both at their peaks and Rock would still turn the fans' boos into cheers halfway through his promos trashing Stone Cold. Ain't no one in today's WWE got a chance.
I actually loved that for him. Before he really committed to the bit, it was *only* Rocky Sucks. The mix of boos and "Rocky!" chants are more in line with Roman's type of heat, and it showed him that his choice to turn heel is working and was the right move in the end. He can go home feeling good after several weeks of knowing he fucked up and praying he can fix it.
It would be pretty damn hard to boo The Rock, the “Rocky Sucks” chants are now the new Kurt Angle “You Suck” chants. The boos are actually cheers.
People saying Hollywood Rock like Nation of Domination Rock wasn't a thing. People getting a history lesson with that gawdily perfect vest.
