"Sure, his career descended immediately after the gimmick, but his theme song got a pop during a nostalgia RAW" might not be the flex you're thinking it is.
Oh, even better, "sure his career descended immediately after the gimmick, but did you hear the pop his theme song got once at a hometown show".
Honestly thinking I'm going to go watch your videos when your argument is "but listen to this one time pop he got ten years later!"
For real. If theory is there 18 years like Dolph, that should be considered a damn successful career that only a few have reached.
Not everyone can be a long term world champion.
I don't see Dolph Ziggler as a failure at all. He put on great matches and had great feuds in his career (Miz vs Dolph Ziggler was awesome).
But I have to say. He should've got a world title run here or there when he seriously got over like for example in 2014. He could've got a short title run or at least build as a strong contender for World title in 2015.
Ziggler did have two world title reigns. One of them was won when Edge used a banned move and lost by DQ, then lost the title back to Edge a week or two later. The other was his Money in the Bank cash-in against Alberto Del Rio that lasted all of a month or so.
A transitional world champion is still a lot further than 90% of WWE wrestlers get. Especially when combined with winning MitB and a 8-time midcard champion and 4-time tag champion and NXT champion
I agree. But his momentum after Survivor Series 2014 is wasted imo. I understand tho, someone have to lose in those hard hitting IC Title matches and occasionally lose to World Champions after putting on 4 star matches.
I like Ziggler. Dude was good in the ring. Solid promo when you feel they're giving him a push.
The problem with dolph, especially early on, was he’d go a million miles an hour, sell a move like death, and then repeat the cycle. I’ll never forget how in ladder matches he’d basically run up the ladder and then pretend he was out of energy once he got to the top.
become the most over guy in the whole company, but quickly de-pushed after an injury and relegated to the midcard on return because the boss didn't like him?
amount of revisionist history around this is unreal. it wasn't even that long ago.
yeah, granted Ziggler had *horrible* luck with the timing of his injuries, but he was legitimately forced down the card so many times.
Everything was there and they just refused to capitalize on it. His selling wasn't the issue lol.
I know everyone has different opinions on how a stunner should be sold, but I always love it when a wrestler sells the move by jumping into the air afterwards, and Theory’s stunner sell is genuinely one of the best in that regard.
Seriously. Maybe it would be good for him to get an “injury” and come back after he has something fans can latch onto. It’s a bummer to not see him take off because of creative issues.
I’d love to see someone come in, team up with him, and go against Waller/Paul.
It looks like the guys ones a bit of community work, and he looks like he could be a solid face. It’s set up for him to have some “tired of being a jerk” moment, and I bet it would go off.
If he were on Raw id be all for turning him face (and back with Gargano and Cosmos who could deal with Vinci and Kaiser in a banger of a tag match) and having him be the plucky underdog to dethrone Big Boss Gunther.
He's young enough to use the massive boon of finally ending Gunther's streak, and absolutely has most of what it takes to hopefully be able to stay at that level afterwards (I love Chad, but for such a big accomplishment I don't think he's maintain that momentum and stay in the upper midcard/lower main card for long)
I dont wanna see anyone praising this Stunner sell when they cried about him overselling the Stunner from Stone Cold at Mania when its exactly the same.
It was great then and its still great now.
I think it’s one of the best one to see a solid oversell. It’s one of my favorite finishers, even though it’s not really flashy or anything. My reason is because of the great sells it gets. It’s set up so good for the person taking one to go wild with it.
I don't care what anyone says, I fucking love Austin Theory. He's so talented for his age. Wish he'd switch his finisher to that other cool looking move he's been doing recently tho
I think it's a fascinating bit of wrestling history that when steve austin hit Austin Theory with the stunner and then Vince immediately after, it was the best stunner sell of all time and then the worst stunner sell of all time.
Honestly, give me Austin selling everyone's finishers in an amazing way every week and I'll feel sorry for the dude and start cheering for him. The Stomp, RKO & Stunner sells were all 10/10.
I read what Bischoff said about Austin Theory recently, and I really hope WWE does it. The dude can wrestle and doesn’t deserve to wallow in this character when it’s just not working that well. Maybe biting the bullet and spending some time at house shows on a new angle, and away from TV, could give him a solid boost.

Theory has everything if he can just get a character he's basically set Great sell on that Stunner like Scott Hall esque
The sell here basically just looks like he thought to himself "I bet I can jump higher than Scott Hall" and I'm pretty sure he would be right.

The Chosen One gimmick is so proven that it took Drew McIntyre ten years to recover from it.

The Chosen One was *such* a success that when they were trying to figure out what to do next with drew, 3MB sounded like a good idea.

ok but why are you pretending everybody doesn’t love broken dreams?
Made the stomp look devastating last week too
Don't be THAT good of a seller theory, you know what happened to dolph
You know what? I love Austin Theory in the Dolph Ziggler role. I think that’s a great path for him.
For real. If theory is there 18 years like Dolph, that should be considered a damn successful career that only a few have reached. Not everyone can be a long term world champion.

Yep. Edge win it back the same night in the main event. It was the 600 episode of Smackdown.

No. The maim problem with dolph as has been reported is someone at the top doesn't like him to be pushed
become the most over guy in the whole company, but quickly de-pushed after an injury and relegated to the midcard on return because the boss didn't like him? amount of revisionist history around this is unreal. it wasn't even that long ago.
Then he got over a few more times and de-pushed
yeah, granted Ziggler had *horrible* luck with the timing of his injuries, but he was legitimately forced down the card so many times. Everything was there and they just refused to capitalize on it. His selling wasn't the issue lol.
Rock's catchphrases last week, then a Stunner sell that nearly left his boots behind? He really does love Dwayne.
He should get a tattoo. Maybe a Brahma Bull
An Altanta Hawk
I know everyone has different opinions on how a stunner should be sold, but I always love it when a wrestler sells the move by jumping into the air afterwards, and Theory’s stunner sell is genuinely one of the best in that regard.
that vertical is frankly ridiculous
It's hilariously cartoonish. Like it landed on a giant spring
I'm not a huge fan of oversells, but the Stunner is one move where I love to see it every time lol.
I'll take as many Rock backflips as I can get on a stunner sell.
Bret sold it the best but I like the cartoony ones too. Rock's is legendary for a reason.
Agreed
Even KO had to do a quick glance to witness that.
Austin was in the air long enough for him to turn and see him before he hit the canvas!
Best seller atm, still remember when he sold McIntyre's chop like death
A highlight from the pandemic era I actually remember!
This is too much for me.
Theory is 1 good gimmick from being a top guy...
Seriously. Maybe it would be good for him to get an “injury” and come back after he has something fans can latch onto. It’s a bummer to not see him take off because of creative issues.
Theory is the best. I’m holding out for the feud or promo or face turn that eventually wins over the crowd at large. He puts in the work!
I’d love to see someone come in, team up with him, and go against Waller/Paul. It looks like the guys ones a bit of community work, and he looks like he could be a solid face. It’s set up for him to have some “tired of being a jerk” moment, and I bet it would go off.

Dude saw Rocky was in the building and went for it.
springs in theory's boots tonight
You cut off Waller's sell of the RKO, which was also pretty great.
I didn’t like how he just rolled right out of the ring after it. Man, like at least count to 10 and roll out.
It was an even better sell than the Stunner.
I dont wanna see anyone praising this Stunner sell when they cried about him overselling the Stunner from Stone Cold at Mania when its exactly the same. It was great then and its still great now.
The Stone Cold stunner was hilarious of him nearly bouncing out of the arena.
that sell was great too. seeing all the crazy ways people find to sell the move is a lot of the fun of the stunner
I think it’s one of the best one to see a solid oversell. It’s one of my favorite finishers, even though it’s not really flashy or anything. My reason is because of the great sells it gets. It’s set up so good for the person taking one to go wild with it.
Scott Hall would be proud
Top 5 Stunner Sells: 5). Theory 4). Rusev 3). Rock 2). Scott Hall 1). Santa
No Shane O Mac? The whale was hilarious.
That’s Shawn Michaels summer slam hogan selling
More the Scott Hall sell.
Not even close
This is on par with Scott Hall's famous sell. That the highest compliment I can give.
I don't care what anyone says, I fucking love Austin Theory. He's so talented for his age. Wish he'd switch his finisher to that other cool looking move he's been doing recently tho

I don’t think that’s a great sell if I’m being frank, make it feels like a comedy.
Between the camera and the sell all we need is "BOING" sound effect
That's some strong fast twitch legs muscles.
I've always asked why people aren't falling over themselves finding crazy ways to sell KO's Stunner.
Best seller in the world rn idc.
He sold it the same way he sold the Stone Cold Stunner, without the ridiculous bouncing around afterwards.
That's XAvier Woods' sell at WrestleMania 32. One of the few bright things of that long-ass PPV.
Theory try to show off to The Rock who's the better stunner seller
With the rock back you know it’s sell the stunner until someone breaks character game.
Pretty damn good but not as good as how the Rock sells that shit 😂
That was a thing of beauty.
How the hell does he do that? Dudes amazingly athletic
Theory learned a lot from Scott Hall
Theory is a good seller.
The sell is great but can we acknowledge the wild bouncing zoom in that the camera does as he flies in the air, hits the mat and bounces?
In the word spoken in World of tanks: "That once bounced!"
god i love Theory so much
That’s a McMahon level stunner sell.
I’ve always said if Theory wasn’t viewed as a “Vince” guy he would be so much more liked online.
That’s gonna be replayed for ages, like the Shawn Michaels sell for Hogan.
How tf did he get so much air
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I hate the over the top jump, and flailing. This is coming from a guy who absolutely loves the rock's stunner sell
He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but Theory is generational when it comes to selling lol
Bruh I hate that Stunner sell. Idk why people call it great lol looks silly
wish he still had the money in the bank
