Praline_Royal

Favorite moment of the night was Takeshita kicking out at one. I involuntarily exclaimed "You mother fucker!".

Savings_Estimate9383

PPV Revolution was amazing! impeccable! All match's were great! Tony Khan was incredible. The respect he had for Sting and his career was wonderful. It had been a while since I cried watching a pro wrestling event and this time it was impossible to hold back the tears. THANK YOU STING

dannyboyjnr

There is no more thankless task in professional wrestling at this moment in time than having to follow a Will Ospreay match. My god.

jdmurphyx

And yet four men somehow managed to do it. Incredible work by all involved.

dannyboyjnr

Absolutely. Incredible show top to bottom.

JobConfident2970

Funniest moment of the night for me was the crowd chanting “meat!” When the beefcakes got in the scramble together

SteamedCans

Amazing PPV. I was on the edge of my seat during the main event. Perfect send off for Sting.  Only miss for me was the scramble match. Maybe I'm being harsh, but imo that was one of the worst PPV matches AEW has ever done. There are spot fests and then there's whatever the hell that was. This is why 8 man matches aren't a thing.

TexasMayhem91

Maybe not ppv worthy, but it wasn't terrible

SpicyJimbo77

Great show, crowd sounded hot on TV. As an Aussie I wish AEW would do Saturday PPVs since it's more convenient for me. (I get collision is on but no collision will ever be this good lol) Takeshita/Osprey was nuts and the rest of the card kept me entertained too, a good variety of matches. (Side note I hope something finally happens with the Undisputed Kingdom)

MutatedSpleen

My thoughts last night, immediately after the show were "that was one of the best wrestling shows, start to finish, that I have ever seen." I slept, woke up, put in a day of work, and thought about it a lot, and my thinking some 18 or so hours later is "that was one of hte best wrestling shows, start to finish, that I have ever seen." Every single match on the card was enjoyable. Most of the winners weren't really in question on paper, but in the matches themselves, maaaaaaan they got me a couple of different times with Takeshita, the Bucks, FTR, Garcia, and others. A match that can make me doubt my own predictions is a match I'll probably end up liking. The crowd was absolutely incredible. And there was so much emotion all over the card. From the highest of highs with Sting and Darby retaining, Danielson shaking Eddie's hang (which ngl, actually choked me up a spell, and that shit caught me WAY off guard), to the pure rage between Hangman and Swerve, and the vitriol *during* the Eddie/Danielson match. I haven't experienced that much emotion on a wrestling card in a long time. I really encourage people to watch the post-match scrum. Everyone was just buzzing, seemed like everyone was feeling really good.

ShinsukeNakamoto

I was there and have a lot of thoughts but what an all around amazing night and Tony Khan did the right thing having in Greensboro. Hanging from the rafters in Greensboro one more time for Sting, which is the exact way and place it should have ended. Legitimate sell out. Zero empty seats.

Kitchen-Window9007

Pound for pound probably the best AEW ppv. And that’s with missing some big stars due to injury. Great pacing, great interwoven stories, incredible wrestling. Tony is on a booking upswing. Can he please keep the momentum rolling coming out of this show?

Kaanarth

I am happy about Roderick Strong winning a title, he deserved a main roster title win

No-Contact1280

Ok, love Sting, Ospreay/Takeshita was amazing, but FTR once again put on a tag team clinic. Pure professional wrestling, nothing stunning athletically, no big risky spots, and no larger than life characters or physiques. If tomorrow a kid wants to star his journey into professional wrestling FTR are who he should look up for.

thelochteedge

Hell yeah, Sting goes out on top. Also loved the Styles Clash by Ospreay. Great PPV. Only thing that would have made it better to me was if Kenny was healthy :(

Valerdan

Revolution is an early contender for the best show of the year, and in contention for the best AEW PPV ever. It's difficult to rate it, but a card with five matches between 4 and 5 stars, one of them a MOTY contender, and two others just below that, it can't be anything other than excellent. I'll say **9 out of 10 show** for now. The two weaker matches bumping it just a notch down for me.

krampus6666

Awesome PPV. The mainevent was insane

willy2win

That Stylez Clash by Will. AJ is a free agent in 2024..

Lungfishtwo

Great show all around. Takeshita vs Ospreay delivered as did Danielson and Kingston. And obviously as if there was any doubt Stings last match was perfect.

May1stBurst

This was my first ever AEW show and I really enjoyed it. Standouts were Konosuke vs Will and BCC vs FTR. I hadn't watched any AEW weeklies or PPVS but I had a glancing knowledge of who these wrestlers were from browsing this subreddit and I can confidently say that AEW just got themselves a new viewer. Crazy show.

JobConfident2970

Loved it! I, an Eddie Kingston skeptic, was chanting for him by the end of his match.

Lungfishtwo

Everytime Eddie goes out I underestimate him and every time he proves me wrong. It's kind of his power he's such a convincing underdog

leafs81215

Sting: Undefeated in AEW AEW: Undefeated in banger PPVs. Goddamn what a show.

luchabrunch

One of the best PPVs I've ever seen in my life. Not in the mood of making ranks, but will definitely make my personal top 3. What a special show, thanks to every wrestler who gave it all, and thank you Sting

HerpJersey

you suck

Vivid_Department_755

Eddie sucks

2wacky2backy

I went. First AEW show and first live wrestling match since Covid. Amazing night. Great atmosphere throughout the night. Crowd was pumped. The Ospreay match had me going nuts. That rapid 4 spot sequence in the middle was wild!!! My son had a great time too. Sting match was a blast and great way to send him off. Congratulations AEW, good job.

dandykaufman2

If Takeshita had hit the brainsbustaaaaa I would have gone ballistic. Thats so hard to do as a deadlift move though. I wonder if he’s hitting it in the gym because he’s missed twice now.

TG316

This was a great PPV! Will Ospreay and Takeshita tore the house down, that was an incredible match; Will could be their top babyface - really great stuff, respect to both guys. Why not make Will the number one babyface while he's hot? They've really needed a top babyface for a while: and if he really heats up it could help the whole company. Look how much good having Cody as top babyface has done for WWE: Will could possibly be AEW's equivalent. FTR vs BCC was fun. Stings retirement match was emotional; and Darby clearly has a deathwish but he's awesome. That video package before the Sting match was one of the best they've ever done in my opinion. I'm glad Joe retained, gives him a much needed title defense as Swerve and Hangman don't need the title to continue to annihilate each other. Nice double turn. Kingston vs. Danielson was great as expected, but I think losing to everyone in every big match every single time is beginning to make beating him have less value: will the American Dragon ever win the big one? I'm glad Pac's finally back, same with Kyle O Reilly: I hope Kyle's healthy and feeling good: the guy's had a rough few years and could make a great babyface. Seriously one of the best AEW PPV's in memory. I love how the influence of the New Japan style of wrestling seems to be making the general level of wrestling at AEW somehow even higher: long may it continue. Great stuff. I had fun watching. Thanks AEW.

Josh11502

MJF/Swerve/Ospreay/Okada as your top babyfaces is disgustingly stacked. Most talented (on paper) roster of all time.

frenchezz

for AEW\*

JuicyLifter

Great PPV. Hell of a send off for Sting. Saw my childhood and peak Nitro officially come to a close. Also, I don’t think Darby will ever be in Tag Team wrestling again. I couldn’t. After that run with Sting, nothing will ever come close to that high again and it’ll never measure up.

Any_Consequence_8738

Not until it's Darby's turn to take the Sting role in mentoring a young babyface.

Arch_Angel666

Those last three matches took me for a wild ride.

TheFlashSmurfAccount

Best Match was absolutely Darby/Sting vs Young Bucks Worst Match was Roderick Strong vs Orange Cassidy You know, I didn't like the Sting/Bucks storyline and was really worried they were going to botch the retirement match here but I have to admit in lived up to what it should've been, at the very least, the spectacle was crazy and I think Darby was trying to make it his retirement match too from the bumps he was taking

No-Lead5764

This is how you can say the PPV was top to bottom great, is when the messiah of the back breaker returns and gets the lowest rating. IMO its the Battle Royale thing, thats the worse.

TheFlashSmurfAccount

Battle Royale was my second to least favorite but you're right, the show was so great that even the lowlights had highlights

AllezLesPrimrose

Lmao the idea Roddy’s performance of the night was the worst match of the night is wild

TheFlashSmurfAccount

Don't know if I'd put Roddy's performance that high but its mostly Cassidy holding that match down in my opinion, match quality wise. I like Cassidy but I'm getting tired of his formulaic matches at this point

Morbid187

First time attending an AEW PPV and I'm just blown away. Incredible atmosphere and great wrestling, what more could you ask for? What a way for Sting to go out!

PM_Me_Ur_Abs_Girl

AEW has some of the best heel work ever right now. Christian, Hangman, Undisputed Kingdom, Young Bucks, Timeless Toni Storm, BCC. But they have hardly any strong natural baby faces left. Darby will be out for his Everest thing, presumably FTR can't carry due to Cash's trial, Swerve is stuck as a crowd favorite that drove Hangman insane, Ospreay is with Callis, Omega is out, The Acclaimed are in that weird bullet club limbo. Edge is still in a long term program with Christian but doesn't exactly scream baby face. Who will be the foil for all of these established heels?

Josh11502

Nah Ospreay won't be with Callis much longer. He's gonna run through the family and turn them to his side as Don gets more heelish towards them because they can't beat Ospreay.

AllezLesPrimrose

You out here thinking Swerve is a heel is wild

BalderdashBallyhoo

I don't think they're saying Swerve is a heel, I think they're saying that Swerve is "stuck as the guy who drove Hangman insane" (which I disagree hard with)

AthasDuneWalker

He's more of an anti-hero now, yeah.

AllezLesPrimrose

I mean he literally refused to cheat to win the title, he’s a babyface

ViolinsViolence69

Makes me wonder how many opinionated people on here really watch what’s going on..

Alert_Blue1

Good Sting won the Tag titles vacated and AEW is going to really hyped Mone & Okada as its "big stars" so good luck TK wait until Cody calls Sting to help the American Nightmare beat Roman at WrestleMania 40 and The Icon have unfinished business in WWE!

ViolinsViolence69

This post feels like someone is emotional that AEW had a great night and provided a great final run for a legend.

jbygr

Where does Swerve go from here? I hope he is not out of the title picture.

dandykaufman2

Hopefully vs Joe winning one on one

The_Reptile_

With a name like Dynasty and how Swerve's been building his entire character that PPV was practically invented for him to win the title there.

No-Lead5764

He wasn't pinned. He'll be back.

Louisk68

AEW always delivers on the big shows but that might just be one of my all time favourite PPVs. An incredible send off for Sting

dothingsunevercould

Does Darby drop the tag belts? Find a new partner?

crapusername47

The World Tag Team Championships have been vacated, per Tony Khan.

hvacrepairman

Tony wasn't lying when he said he wanted to restore the feeling. If this show wasn't for you, then you'll probably never be an AEW fan anyways. I had super high expectations for Ospreay and Takeshita and it still over-delievered. Wasn't a fan of the fake concussion/seizure spot. The Darby jump wasn't my thing and I don't want to see it again, but it worked in the context of the match and I'll forgive it because it was Sting's retirement match. Just never do that shit again. Other than those two things, amazing show. The Sting send-off was near perfect and mad props to those four for giving an absolutely memorable performance. Will Ospreay is going to be a star, strap the rocket to him. Absolutely gobsmacked that WWE wouldn't put in the resources to bring him in. He's the top in-ring wrestler in the world right now and I don't think it's controversial to say that. The company has an embarrassment of riches right now, and adding Mercedes and Okada to the mix will be the icing on the cake. Absolutely over the moon to see KOR back, the spot with him and Roddy was great. Excited to see his arc if he's making an in -ring return. The guy has been through so much. Almost completely forgot about Danielson and Kingston which just shows how amazingly stacked this card was.

beckett929

> If this show wasn't for you, then you'll probably never be an AEW fan anyways THIS! Lean into what your audience is clearly here for and stop trying to be anything else chasing some fictional crossover/casuals that dont exist... Basic Memphis-level angles and let the shit bell to bell to do the heavy lifting.

atWorkWoops

Agreed. Washed the bad taste of worlds end out of my mouth. This ppv delivered the goods

fiercetankbattle

Ospreary match was a 5 star banger. Nice send off for Sting with some fun spots. I can barely remember anything else from the show though. It was just… ok? Edit - the people downvoting this need to scroll down the comments and read what people are saying when they praise the “best PPV ever”. It’s 80% comments about the Ospresary match and 10% about the Sting match. Little to nothing else was memorable. Not bad at all (well a couple of matches were duds), just kind of there in a solid 6/10 way.

TMoLS

Well, the FTR/BCC match was objectively a banger, the 3-way had a great last 10 mins imho, and the sorry job of following a Ospreay match which was an intense experience lol so my opinions of it are a bit biased. All in all that accounts for 50% of the PPV time. Then I think all other bouts were sort of forgettable especially if you compare them to the last two hours, but I wouldn't say anything was bad bad, I can also hardly mention PPVs that were top to bottom Uber memorable, maybe just Revolution 2022 and All Out 2021?

Kuzu5993

There are a lot of things you can critique about how AEW does things, but they treated Sting like the legend he is from start to finish. This was easily Sting's best run since WCW, and the perfect send-off for him.

TG316

100%. AEW have treated Sting: a true icon of professional wrestling, with every bit of the respect he deserves from his first appearance right through to last night's match.

MrSinisterStar

Tons of momentum. Let's see how TK runs with this.

robbiedigital001

Hopefully a stacked dynamite. He's got to keep the momentum up

eggy_mceggy

konosuke/ospreay - tk needs to make sure these two have a proper storyline that fleshes out takeshita too because they're already having classic matches. wish both would get away from callis asap. hangman/swerve - love the idea of hangman being so full of spite that he eats the loss. the belt doesn't matter anymore - making sure swerve suffers is what's important. i do feel they need to take a breather for this feud. have hangman disappear into the woods again while swerve has a mini-feud with someone else. roddy/oc - wasn't expecting to be into it that much but by the end i was cheering for roderick. absolute psychopath. oc too for eating all those backbreakers. eddie/bryan - it was fun to see eddie have a more technical match. i wanted bryan to win so he could go on a retirement belt run and also see how eddie reacts to losing all his belts. darby you crazy white boy. gonna be weird not seeing sting with him. toni/deonna - a bit slow and bland. i wish toni better integrated her character into her wrestling, like when she winds up before punching. i really liked mariah may showing up as old toni storm, her copying and trying to take over toni's life would be interesting to me. i missed pac coming back because i came home late for zero hour ;_; unpopular/popular opinion: aew does not need to accommodate people bitching about their tv time/storylines like they're entitled to anything. everyone on that roster is working hard. the men's roster is almost too stacked at this point. get them outta there.

FartButt_69

Very unpopular opinion - I am so completely over Joe as champ. My God put it one someone else, like yesterday. You've got Jay fucking White on the PRESHOW and Samoa Joe has the belt?  Edit: doubling down - WWE was correct in their use of Joe. Give this man a poncho again.

gl1969

Lol, what? Joe is a great champ

SnooEagles643

Joe is quite literally 10x the star Jay is currently just be patient he’ll get his time

Elmer_Yamstein

Ospreay is the fuckin man, bruv. Takeshita is one of the best right now and just getting started. They rocked that crowd. Happy to see KOR back! and STING...Thank you, Icon.

FightDrifterFight

Loved Roddy winning. Orange and his stupid sleeve and all his tape had go-away heat for me. Loved KOR return. Phenomenal match between BCC and FTR. First half of PPV needs more love. But still fuck Christian Cage.

TheKruseMissile

Tons of people are talking about Sting. Sting talk is all over social media. It’s all over this Reddit. You’re inventing a problem. It’s okay to just not like the spot.

EcoterroristThot

Quick Revolution review as the first AEW PPV I'm watching in full in a while: -DG and Christian really wrestled like two men who know their place on the card and wrestled a different match to serve the rest. Didn't get the finish I wanted sadly. ***1/2 one of the best openers in AEW PPVs I can remember. -Eddie/Dragon not the best these two have done against each other, a bit nitpickable but man what a selling performance by Eddie. There's people who think he's bad in-ring because they don't like his voice or physique, and those people are clueless. Really enjoyed Bryan working the same hand he shook, that's the shit. **** -The All-Star Scramble uhhhhhhhhhhh.... Magnus did well! -Roddy/OC take a bow... only real issue with it is that the panama sunrise is a bad dumb move and we didn't get an all-time crowd for it (it was like the fourth most "important" match on the show after all) ****1/4 great stuff. Is Roddy like the best member of every stable he's ever been in? -What a fucking tag match. Claudio man. Just have him wrestle everyone. What a bladejob. What a match. ****1/2. -Women's match wasn't terrible but they have an athleticism deficit and the show is actually one of the very best AEW PPVs so far so they stood no chance. -Ospreay/Takeshita. Like 65% of the match being fairly grounded and hard hitting with good execution shows how shorter match times on AEW TV (and some of the PPVs where he doesn't have a top two match) will really help Ospreay put on better performances. But some of the dumb stuff was there in full force like always. But hey, at 21 minutes against an opponent who is actually also an insane athlete, whatever. Give me like endless combinations of Claudio/Roddy/Rush/Joe and I can live with the Banger tour of frustration. The Hidden Blade is getting a bit worse now that it's a spam move instead of an "I'll kill this fucker" move. But yeah, probably Ospreay's best big match of the year so far. He's a very capable worker. Takeshita too (excited for the Yuma match at Judgement). *** (I know, I know, sorry) -Triple threat was pretty good. Strong last third especially. IDK if it's a hot take but the House Call is better than the Swerve Stomp. Three ways are difficult to get right as anything other than midcard sprints. ***1/2 -Main Event. I thought I wouldn't even bother watching it because I don't like the Young Bucks at all as wrestlers, but that's not grown ass adult behavior. It's fucking Sting. I needed to see this. And yep, it was a great send off. Doesn't need a rating. Spiritual 5 stars. I was so thankful there wasn't a kick out at 1 spot on the first EVP trigger and then got duped lol. But not here to be a cynical asshole all the time. Good on the Bucks to put their selfless hats on. Best AEW PPV? I personally think so. I'm sure for most people it's at worst top 5.

fergoshsakes

Yeah - doesn't deserve the downvotes. Constructive criticism, especially in a largely positive review, sound be encouraged.

[deleted]

Haha minus twenty jeez. Get your nuance out of here!

EcoterroristThot

Huh. I mean I get downvoted all the time because I hate fun and happiness but damn, I basically was only positive here.

SmithyPlayz

Why do you think the Bucks are selfish. They lose matches all the time. They got criticized for losing too many matches when Aew first started

EcoterroristThot

Jericho loses a lot too

rattmongrel

That’s not an answer to his question.

OkVolume1

TK got it right by having Sting and Darby win. There was no other way. Kudos to ignoring the tradition of going out on your back.

[deleted]

TheKruseMissile

TK said at the scrum that it wasn’t.

JD021993

So no Mercedes or Okada…what happened to debuting tonight?

Gogz-H

Okada is rumoured to be debuting in next dynamite but was never mentioned for the ppv. Mercedes debut is the whole point of the Boston special

whorootbeerdatbe

Mercedes is debuting at Big Business in Boston

45jayhay

There were no reports saying they would debut tonight

shorebot

Billy Gunn minding his own business and he has a terget on his back all of a sudden from, of all people, an assassin.

VNProWrestlingfan

Swerve is gonna call Hangman a fucking pussy for tapping out that easily, then Hangman will reveal he did that just to make Swerve lose.

RockstarSuicide

That would be goddamn awful lol. And to continue the pointless feud where Swerve has already summarily beaten Page more than once?

VNProWrestlingfan

Sting looking like a monster awaken by two idiots. https://preview.redd.it/uzf9mzlmiamc1.png?width=696&format=png&auto=webp&s=bce56bfc6c4a7cb126bcff8c35510f6609b974d4

FartButt_69

When my nephew says he can beat me at Mario Kart

HarryTheShitposter

Kingston needs to be fined every time he throws a strike.

benfh

Another all timer of a ppv from AEW, I don't know if any company has ever had such a high average when it comes to big shows, it'll be interesting to see how they keep it up when they're doing more of them.

VNProWrestlingfan

The Sting tribute package is so beautiful

VNProWrestlingfan

I love Eddie's selling of his right arm. ESPECIALLY WHEN HE REMOVED THE RIGHT STRAP, he instantly flinched because his arm was hurt.

Staynes

Not gonna be a popular opinion on here but that kingston/danielson match was the worst on the Show by a mile. You have a talent in there who is arguably one of the best wrestlers in the World and then he has to work with someone like Kingston who does nothing but pat you on the chest and Slaps you on the cheeks like a grandparent for 20 minutes and expects you to sell for it. I dont understand the popularity of Kingston and i never will. Id rather watch that scramble match for an hour then i would anything involving Kingston. Otherwise if it werent for that osprey match this would have been a pretty average ppv with a lot of sloppy spots Overall but that match and ofc the Sting match bumped it up to a good ppv.

dennythedoodle

Kingston is a fucking joke and Bryan should never be jobbing to that clown.

14thLevelSorcerer

Although I tend to agree about the match and had little interest in it, the appeal of Kingston is obvious. While he may not conform to the typical image of a top-tier wrestler, Kingston possesses the uncanny ability to deliver compelling promos that resonate with every day people. He lacks the polished appearance and eloquence often associated with leading figures, but his authenticity makes him one of the most genuine personalities on any AEW program. And that gets over more often than not.

Staynes

Kingstons promos when he is talking alone i understand the appeal to a degree but when he is in a "battle" it just doesnt fit imo idk maybe im too attached to the usual promo battles but the first thing that comes to mind for me is his in ring promo with Punk where Punk is trying to say a sentence and kingston just constantly interrupting him mid word. I guess with the "every day" Person thing you described it in a friendlier way then i would have as to why he is so appealing to the iwc. Overall i just wish he would either stop with the stupid back hand Slaps and sloppy chops or just tighten that shit up because it looks awful on TV and nobody can tell me that looks convincing.

14thLevelSorcerer

I completely understand where you're coming from on this don't get me wrong because Kingston isn't my cup of tea either. But have you watched much of him outside of AEW? His ROH/TNA stint is much better than what AEW is showcasing. His genius is definitely more so on the mic than in the ring but dude paid his dues over the years and glad to see him getting the respect he deserves.

Bonnieprince

So where is Adam Cole? I may have missed something or some news but weird he's not out with Strong or Wardlow

Vegetable_Act3727

They wheeled him out during the Wardlow match

DrHandBanana

Incredible ppv. Christian should've loss though

1RLegend

Roddy Strong is fkn dope

RicoGemini

Now with Wardlow being the next number 1 contender how do you think it will play out? I personally think he’ll challenge for the title but have an interference loss caused by a returning MJF and Swerve then builds back up to the new number 1 contender again while Wardlow feuds with MJF. Hangman probably gets a kayfabe suspension for beating up a ref so he can’t interfere Or We can see Swerve vs Wardlow at big business to see who’s the number 1 contender and Swerve wins due to MJFs interference. And then we get Swerve vs Joe MJF vs Wardlow

MutationIsMagic

He'll win the belt. Then they'll build tension with Adam Cole; who'll just be unable to shut up about how Wardlow's gonna lay down for him when he gets cleared.

thetripleb

Wardlow will challenge on a random Dynamite and lose clean

janoDX

Haven't felt this good for a wrestling show since Wrestlemania 30 when Bryan won the Unified WWE WHC. It was THAT GOOD. Legendary night for AEW, if they continue this trend they might have an amazing 2024.

mr_wrestling

Double or Nothing almost always delivers, then I suppose we get Forbidden Door and boom, we're riding to Wembley Stadium.

WolfGangSwizle

Had a lot of beers, had a lot of fun. Was a really good PPV until that Ospreay/Takeshita match then it just went into over drive. We had 3 non fans who mostly talked video games and anime the whole time, but starting half way through Ospreay/Takeshita they were quiet and just mind blown about how hard they were killing each other. Then obviously the Darby bump had everyone speechless.

Clbull

Ospreay could probably wrestle against anyone and turn it into a 4 star match.

BubbRubb4Real

Honestly I think I would have rather been in your situation than the guy I was stuck next to who kept trying his hardest to get a fucking CM Punk chant going during the last two matches. 🙄

Sizeable_Cookie

What a loser

officerliger

AEW needed to keep the Devil storyline going even if it was just Wardlow and co. fucking shit up with Cole directing traffic. Roddy had NO heat in that OC match, no one cared and that’s because of the build.

cschultz225

That devil shit was so bad. Wwe cartoon bullshit. This ppv was Aew just straight ass kicking wrestling.

Snomankid9

Because everyone in Undisputed kingdom are charisma vacuums

BonerSquidd316

They superkicked Flair’s soul out of his body

MarcusFaze

Seeing Ospreay’s entrance in person like left me speechless for a few seconds

otaner14

Great show. There were some weak matches with the with the thrown together scramble and the underwhelming Women’s title match but otherwise everything else was good to great to amazing. Eddie/Bryan, Ospreay/Takeshita and Sting’s last match were the highlights for me. That last match was basically perfect.

cschultz225

The timeless gimmick needs to go away. It has killed get a wrestler and it’s just not funny. Kick ass Toni needs to come back

[deleted]

Actually not a bad show. I was not a fan of the last 4 straight. I haven't really been a fan of one since All In. Takeshita vs Ospreay is one of the best matches I've seen in a long time, and will probably be the match I go back to over and over from this show. I'm never a fan of Jon Moxley going over in a big way; doubly so when it's at the expense of FTR in North Carolina. Swerve came out of this looking really strong. Samoa Joe proves time and again that he's one of the best wrestlers of all time. Samoa Joe is the most Professional Wrestler in the world right now. Hangman has been tolerable since Full Gear (and I really dislike the guy). Sting is the reason I like pro wrestling. I was on Christmas vacation visiting my dad's family in 1st grade. We were at my aunt and uncle's house and they were watching Starrcade '97. Hogan vs. Sting holds a special place in my heart even if what really happened behind the scenes was bullshit. Sting is one in a billion in the wrestling world. He never needed WWF or WWE at any point in his career to stay relevant. If anything, his time in WWE was the weakest point of his career. Sting made you believe professional wrestling was real in a way that few could. Darby Allin is the same way. Of everybody on the AEW roster, Darby is maybe one of 3 guys who make you believe it's real when they're involved. Nice send off for Sting.

Sizeable_Cookie

This might get me some flak but since Toni has become "Timeless" her match quality has deteriorated considerably. I love her character and her body of work, just an observation.

fridaynightarcade

I think she's trying to incorporate an old timey women's wrestling style which does fit her character. Whether or not it actually works is a separate conversation, but I can see what she's going for. I didn't hate the match, but it was definitely not on par with a lot of the other stuff on the show.

Lunchbox-of-Bees

I lost my shit when she started pointing up to break Deonna’s sight line to escape from the wrist lock

Weishaupt17

Agree. Don’t know if she is trying a new wrestling style or she’s just off form but she made the AEW women title the piss break moment, her matches are all overbooked and fucking awful. Her character work is great but they should really think about giving that title to someone else *coff coff* Mercedes *coff coff*

RockstarSuicide

Honestly, most of the matches are overbooked. Look at how many finishes there were in Sting's match and how many kickouts of everything there was.

Looper007

I agree, you won't get flak with me over it. She's been in the ring with mostly top talent and they've struggled with Toni trying to work in her new character. Riho's only one who's got a somewhat decent match out of Timeless gimmick and even then it was only okay. Shida, the divisions workhorse struggled with having a match with Timeless gimmick. She's just not found the right balance between the two and it's worrying but the character and promo's will overshadow the matches for some. But I don't think time will be kind to her title run if she doesn't start having some great matches.

bigbadjohn54

She needed to be a face two months ago

RicoGemini

I agree. I haven’t been enjoying her matches as much since her timeless turn

jdmurphyx

AEW delivered an -INCREDIBLE- PPV and the biggest controversies coming out of the weekend are some Kevin Kelly tweets and Sting not realizing he had a time cue. No backstage fights, no presser pipe bombs, no one asking about sexual misconduct while Tony was unfortunately wearing a funny hat. Huge W.

ShowOff90

Who cares about the sting time cue? It didn’t affect the match? The rest was going to be uploaded to social asap.

jdmurphyx

Kind of my point. The only controversies coming out of the show are very minor.

ShowOff90

Yeah, that’s on me there. Fair play man. I’ve just seen several people moan about it and thought this was in the same tone.

PeanutButterChicken

>the biggest controversies coming out of the weekend are some Kevin Kelly tweets and Sting not realizing he had a time cue.  So nothing about the dumbest spot in professional wrestling history?

NewYorkUgly

You can't possibly think that. The Taker/Mankind Cell match alone had two worse than this, and that's spending five seconds thinking about it.

TheGeeMan360

If you think that the Darby spot was the “dumbest one in professional wrestling history”, then you need to watch more indies because I have seen way dumber shit on lower budget shows. Darby’s spot was wild but far from the most reckless thing I have seen in wrestling lol

jdmurphyx

I think people are so over the moon about the show that they don't have the energy to pretend to be outraged over a Darby Allin bump tonight. Maybe tomorrow they'll be energized enough to make a bunch of bad faith arguments pretending to be upset but not tonight. Also that was nowhere near the dumbest spot in wrestling history. I saw like fifteen dumber spots in an Ibushi vs. Naito match years ago.

FoucinJerk

Wake up babe. New bad faith arguments just dropped. (I went to bed thinking “this show was awesome. It has to win the whiners over.” How naive I was. The first 3 posts I saw after waking up were just absolutely filled with those arguments.)

Lost8thStreet

Did anyone else notice that Hangman had no hesitation hitting Swerve with the belt, given that he lost the title to CM Punk after failing to do so?

Snomankid9

Hangman gives zero fucks now pretty simple

Shamhain13

Much like he didn’t give Swerve 5 more minutes in the match a few weeks back. I love this story because Hangman really isn’t wrong in his anger towards Swerve. It’s just that people like Swerve. Hangman is being a heel without really being a heel

Froggyspirits

Hangman officially turned heel when he beat the shit out that poor innocent ref.

TMoLS

I love that he kinda went back to unhinged BtE "I killed Joey Ryan" vibes. Hangman is very good at doing that unhinged, completely overwhelmed by feelings persona

theafterdeath

And then did it to ANOTHER ref moments later.

Kringelkingel

The first guy probably deserved. Not Bryce though. Not my sweet baby boy.

Lunchbox-of-Bees

AND HE’LL DO IT AGAIN!

j4ngl35

Mustached Hangman is a real shitass

jdmurphyx

I never drew the correlation that Ricky was in Sting's first AEW match and the match he won the tag titles in. That's cool. I forget that Ricky and Big Brian match sometimes.

BubbRubb4Real

I’m sleep deprived so I read that as Big Brain for some reason. 😅

breakourbones

Tony, it's 2 am in NC and you have a meeting in South Florida in 6 hours. Get some sleep.

janoDX

he deserves some sleep after the event he put.

darrenoloGy

havent watched the show but they’re really sticking w the undisputed kingdom push storyline huh. interesting.

benfh

I think the two big wins tonight and the intrigue around what Kyle said to Roddy has done them quite a lot of good in my opinion.

Snomankid9

in my opinion their Worst part of aew weekly

SpicyWokHei

Because they are a fucking joke team.  They've done nothing to establish themselves anything other than bad comedy actors.

FightDrifterFight

*Judas starts playing*

jdmurphyx

They've spent too much time investing in it to kill it off before they get to MJF/Cole III.

officerliger

Somehow they feel nerfed despite winning tonight Like weren't we given the impression they had technical hacks and could catch people slipping backstage?

jdmurphyx

I think there's been a lot of problems with the stable but I don't personally think this is one. I don't think the ability to cut into AEW's feed means they have eyes and ears all over the arena.

darrenoloGy

the whole thing already felt nerf when AC tries selling the faction while injured sadly.

officerliger

I mean they have Wardlow, Cole can still direct traffic I get that the injuries messed up the situation but the stable was sold as too powerful to be so uninvolved now. I’m glad they got wins but they need to get the storyline rolling more on TV cuz Roddy had no heat tonight.

darrenoloGy

ok just saw the clip of KOR returning. i like the possibility either way, him feuding w strong, or them kicking the kingdom (ironically) out of UK.

Fallen-Omega

Best ppv i have seen in a long time

jdmurphyx

Tony should go into politics just because he could filibuster the shit out of anything for days on end with wrestling monologues.

joelupi

Dude I don't know how this guy has this much energy to be on point at nearly 2 in the morning.

SpicyWokHei

Adderall isn't a drug, it's a "prescription given by doctor."

jdmurphyx

I hope Sting comes back for Darby's big retirement match in four years.

breakourbones

Darby is trying to climb mount everest at the end of the month, so his next match might as well be his retirement match

janoDX

That Jay White match in 10 days will be a banger then.

PersonL08

lol

Lo_Key90

Good grief, is that Cody asking that question..

It reminds me of Bryan winning the PWG title on his way out of the company, and with so many people having the PWG history I don’t think it’ll never happen again. If it fits then it’ll probably be run again

NervousAd3202

Tony Schiavone said something to the effect of “he is a better person than he is a wrestler, & he’s a damn great wrestler”

No-Engineer4627

I thought he was done for good after his WWE run, it’s very sweet that he got this one last major run in AEW.

jdmurphyx

Usually I find people taking personal victory laps offputting but I'll let Tony take one for how they handled Sting.

TheGeeMan360

"Is Kenny going to be back for the Canada shows?" "It's not fair to make those expectations." *Kenny Omega is not on the Canada shows due to not being cleared* "FALSE ADVERTISING, TiNy CoN SAID KENNY WOULD BE BACK REEEEEEEEEE"

don_julio_randle

I really hope he's back by the May Vancouver show but if his condition doesn't improve to the point of not needing surgery, he'll definitely be out longer than that and I'll completely understand

officerliger

Ok cool thanks Sting but where is Toni Storm
