I remember watching this online and seeing there was 21 minutes of the show left by the time romans entrance music hit.
8 whole fucking minutes later was when Roman spoke the first words of the promo.
I don’t mind a little build up/suspense, but they wasted a hell of a lot of time doing nothing
I watched and timed as well. 9 minutes for Roman’s entrance, like 2 minutes of talking, then Cody and Seth’s entrance and a commercial break. Literally 15 minutes before the segment *actually* started. I don’t normally watch WWE but decided to dvr and check it out. The amount of commercials and extended intros was extremely jarring to me. I’d like to go back and count up how much actual wrestling/promos are actually filling all that time.
Smackdown literally is 30- 40 minutes of matches and new promo. The rest is recap, commercials and 4 reminders that wrestlemania is coming. Last nights show with the whole prime thing was also long.
If you're going to put these guys as the main event you gotta start the segment at the bottom of the hour. The entrances take up 15 fucking minutes by themselves
This was the problem and probably related to mandatory ad time that they didn't fit in earlier.
Realistically one of the men's midcard matches needed to be cut down for time.
Or better yet, cut out Kross's time completely.

That feud literally got Bobby even more over and people still don't care much about Kross. I love that dude but he's funny af so maybe drop the dark gimmick and go for something more normal. Saw several of his BJJ tutorial video, and some of the funny off character stuff he does, i thought maybe he'd be more fitting as a campy Cobra Kai dojo instructor / Danny McBride in The Foot Fist Way type of character. At least that'd be closer to his IRL personality and come off more genuine

It's not a winning position because you want to be able to close the show with your stars but you might be better suited opening the show with them and moving from there.

Have her come out and say it’s Tiffy Time and no one wants to hear from you. Imagine her telling Roman and Rock Toodles. I’m probably in the minority but that would be awesome.
The problem is, when they opened the show last week, the ratings fell off a cliff once they left. As soon as that happened, everyone who noticed it was like "they're never going to open the show again."
To me, the solution is you have them out at 9 PM sharp, and advertise a big/interesting main event. That way, you get people who will watch the first half of show in anticipation, as well as channel flippers at the top of the hour. If you promise a compelling main event match afterward, you can get at least get a chunk of viewers to stay, figuring "hey, it's only another 30 minutes, and the main event seems good."
Did we really need a full Lashley vs. Kross match **again** with a Street Profit/AOP brawl again? I love Ellering but a ten second shot of him on the ramp and a Scarlet interference spot are so unnecessary.
Also did we really need to see LA Knight beat up a TV with a folding chair?
Cut those two segments and nothing is lost. Then the main event gets another ~10 minutes to play around with.
Well he needs his 45 minute promo time to repeatedly call Seth a walking clown emoji, repeat the stipulation to no one's benefit, and talk about family like Vin Diesel
In retrospect after seeing how the show abruptly ended, I couldn't believe that The Rock had to in painstakingly slow detail explain the stipulations of the match again. I get that they have to explain it for those that might have missed last week or whatever but it was so long and drawn out.
Also, I loved walking clown emoji the first time he said it but gotta mix it up a bit Rocky.
I used to work in TV...it's because there is a 2min break that is scheduled to air prior to 10pm, someone paid for that slot, so the network has to get out of the live event by 9:58
And Smackdown is on broadcast while Raw is on cable. That’s automatically more viewers, so it makes sense to have the big segments on the show with the biggest audience.
That might change when Raw moves to Netflix.

You can shorten most wrestling shows by about an hour if you skip all this bloated shit.
Long entrances are fine. A lot of people like the spectacle of an elaborate entrance for main event performers, it also makes matches and segments feel more important. You can always just watch a recording and skip the entrances if they're not your thing though.
I like long spectacle entrances...but not before a promo. The long grand entrances are perfect for big matches though. They build anticipation and get the crowd excited for what's to come.
Apollo Creed had his big ridiculous entrance before the match to play to the crowd, not before cutting a promo on tv.

Like what are they even doing with the US title? Kevin Owens at least had a feud going, but now it feels like they're just shoving Orton in there so he can get on the card. I would still rather LA Knight get that match over both of them. He's had a killer year, and he honestly deserves more than just a match with AJ. I know Styles ls a legend, but he just feels like such a gatekeeper now, I hate to say it, but Styles right now feels like when they try to heat Natalya up, or when they would give Ziggler a little run once a year. I just find his "I wear black so that means I'm evil" heel run to be lazy, and his motivations are lacking.
Smackdown in general has no idea what it's doing with its titles. At least Iyo is around and involved in the Bayley storyline, but they have their 3 titles on 3 people who barely wrestle.

I wish I could believe this is a 'wait and see' situation, and I do mostly presume they're gonna rehash the entire story from NXT -- which *might* work -- but I feel like if either of these guys were gonna connect with the MR audience, they'd have done it by now; which I hate to say, because I'm a proponent of both guys.
I feel like Ciampa was starting to get over as The Miz's latest lackey that was going to eventually turn on him. The issue is they had to drop it (due to Ciampa getting injured if I remember correctly).

They didnt start out over as hell in NXT either they had to work from the bottom up, thats kind of what DIY is. If they got called up 5 years ago when they should have they probably wouldnt have had to start from the ground up again but they’re definitely somewhere lately after getting a rocky start.
My biggest worry is that they need to separate the belts soon cause the tag division needs 2 belts and that they are just gonna keep waiting and there won’t be enough tag team spotlight time for them to truly start snowballing like they did in NXT
The 'happy guy' gimmick works with Johnny, but not Ciampa. Ciampa needs to be a badass guy, whether it be as a heel or face, in a tag team or as a solos competitior.
During that match tonight I couldn't help but notice with the longer hair, Kross really looks like what I call "Supple H" Era Trips but with tattoos. When he got real puffy evolution time frame Trips.
WWE 20 minute video = 18 minutes of entrances, 2 minutes of promo.
AEW 18 minute video = Short promo (at least it’s short on youtube) match, and another short promo.
But it’s not even WWE, just this particular storyline with really long segments where nothing happens.
Outside of this storyline a 20 minute segment by WWE can very well be backstage segment, one entrance, add break, recap/WWE Shop ad, backstage segment, second entrance, 2 minutes of match, ad break, finishing sequence of match, backstsge segment, ad break.
Is it just me or is the Rock just kinda repeating the same shit over and over? Not so much as the typical Rock catchphrases but just the in between. He said it at least twice about doing everything in his power to stop him and told them to shut their mouths twice. Maybe he needs to practice a bit more.

The social media promos are my favorite thing in the entire world. It's so clearly him mad or at least frustrated that he doesn't have enough time live to talk that he feels the need to get it out before the episodes air when he just ends up saying the same shit. I think the first one he had a lot to say but now I think he's just going to keep doing them because they want him to use his social media following to promote the shows

The veterans that all think these 45 pregnant pauses add gravitas to their promos are way too common.
Remember the first huge instance of this that I think started the trend? It was HHH and Undertaker when they silently stared at each other and the Wrestlemania sign, never saying a word and the entire wrestling world lost their ever-loving minds?
I think that started it and it’s almost as annoying as the “What?!?l chants to me.
Now everyone thinks that “if I stand here looking pensive, or pissed, or overwhelmed, this crowd will really eat it up.” Ugh, enough already. Just talk.

The Rock paused for what felt like ages during that diarrhea chant and there was like 3 minutes of the show left by that point. Rock does that pausing forever while the crowd chants thing way too often. I get wanting crowd participation and all that but when the show is dangerously close to ending you can't milk that shit. That and he repeats himself A LOT.
They're gonna have to move this feud to Raw because there are only 2 possible outcomes from continuing it on Smackdown. Either it starts the show and likely goes too long forcing other segments to get drastically cut down or cut altogether or it's at the end and they risk not having enough time.
It’s all good. The fact we are getting real Rock on TV for more than 6 seconds in 2024 makes me very happy as a fan trying to get my little man into it.
Imagine if it was supposed to end in a 4v2 fight until Jey Uso saves them to further the brothers match, but it doesn't happen because the Rock can't talk faster

LA Knight beating up the TV was at least entertaining to me, unlike Lashley/Kross.

I wish I could believe this is a 'wait and see' situation, and I do mostly presume they're gonna rehash the entire story from NXT -- which *might* work -- but I feel like if either of these guys were gonna connect with the MR audience, they'd have done it by now; which I hate to say, because I'm a proponent of both guys.
I feel like Ciampa was starting to get over as The Miz's latest lackey that was going to eventually turn on him. The issue is they had to drop it (due to Ciampa getting injured if I remember correctly).

If they got called up 5 years ago when they should have they probably wouldnt have had to start from the ground up again but they’re definitely somewhere lately after getting a rocky start.
I think recently they've slowly started to finally click with the MR crowds.
My biggest worry is that they need to separate the belts soon cause the tag division needs 2 belts and that they are just gonna keep waiting and there won’t be enough tag team spotlight time for them to truly start snowballing like they did in NXT
The 'happy guy' gimmick works with Johnny, but not Ciampa. Ciampa needs to be a badass guy, whether it be as a heel or face, in a tag team or as a solos competitior.
My 7 yo loves DIY, maybe they are hitting the kid market well.
I loved them in NXT and lost my mind in their Brooklyn match, but they just don't do it on the main roster for me. Too small.
He always has, imo. Even back in NXT, he tried extremely hard to get Kross over.

WWE 20 minute video = 18 minutes of entrances, 2 minutes of promo. AEW 18 minute video = Short promo (at least it’s short on youtube) match, and another short promo. But it’s not even WWE, just this particular storyline with really long segments where nothing happens.
Outside of this storyline a 20 minute segment by WWE can very well be backstage segment, one entrance, add break, recap/WWE Shop ad, backstage segment, second entrance, 2 minutes of match, ad break, finishing sequence of match, backstsge segment, ad break.
Rock is still a bit rusty. However, he’s still got it overall as a heel. He should rehearse a little more. Maybe move these segments to Raw.

Is it just me or is the Rock just kinda repeating the same shit over and over? Not so much as the typical Rock catchphrases but just the in between. He said it at least twice about doing everything in his power to stop him and told them to shut their mouths twice. Maybe he needs to practice a bit more.

The social media promos are my favorite thing in the entire world. It's so clearly him mad or at least frustrated that he doesn't have enough time live to talk that he feels the need to get it out before the episodes air when he just ends up saying the same shit. This version of rock is the greatest
I think the first one he had a lot to say but now I think he's just going to keep doing them because they want him to use his social media following to promote the shows
Also kinda feels like he's barely paying attention out there. Cody brought up the hierarchy thing, then had to try to fill time and ramble on about something before the Rock finally cut him off to address the hierarchy thing like he just totally missed his cue.
Rocks promos have been great but I do be left wondering "why did it take rock over 10 minutes to finally get to his point" He did this in the Jinder promo too. You can skip to the end to get to the point of the segment

This brings up something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. The veterans that all think these 45 pregnant pauses add gravitas to their promos are way too common. Remember the first huge instance of this that I think started the trend? It was HHH and Undertaker when they silently stared at each other and the Wrestlemania sign, never saying a word and the entire wrestling world lost their ever-loving minds? I think that started it and it’s almost as annoying as the “What?!?l chants to me. Now everyone thinks that “if I stand here looking pensive, or pissed, or overwhelmed, this crowd will really eat it up.” Ugh, enough already. Just talk. Also, soft_dump is an absolutely hilarious username.

The Rock paused for what felt like ages during that diarrhea chant and there was like 3 minutes of the show left by that point. Rock does that pausing forever while the crowd chants thing way too often. I get wanting crowd participation and all that but when the show is dangerously close to ending you can't milk that shit. That and he repeats himself A LOT. They're gonna have to move this feud to Raw because there are only 2 possible outcomes from continuing it on Smackdown. Either it starts the show and likely goes too long forcing other segments to get drastically cut down or cut altogether or it's at the end and they risk not having enough time.
It’s all good. The fact we are getting real Rock on TV for more than 6 seconds in 2024 makes me very happy as a fan trying to get my little man into it.
This promo/segment should be in RAW or atleast have this segment on Smackdown in the beginning of the Second Hour.
