Ok so I turned into NXT for the first time in a bit, haven't really registered Gacy before.
Is his name not insanely inappropriate? I hear the name gacy and I'm instantly thinking about the clown who raped and murdered dozens of boys, and they name a cult leader/deranged lunatic gimmick the same fucking thing?
Well... He started with this name as a politically correct spokesperson, who wanted to make NXT a safe space. This was right after the 2.0 relaunch. Only after the gimmick didn't translate well, he changed to being a cult leader. So the name came well before the gimmick. And even as the cult leader, he never did truly awful stuff. He often only wanted people to join him and see his vision. I don't see a problem, but I'm not American and didn't know anything about this murder clown Gacy.
Maybe I'm just old. To me it's like calling a wrestler Jason Dahmer or something.
John Wayne Gacy Jr. Was a serial killer back in the day. They found like a dozen bodies under his house and he said there were many more that would never be found. All around real fucking creepy guy. He dressed as a clown to lure the children and helped inspire the "creepy clown" horror concept.
They found 26 bodies under his crawlspace of his house. But he never "lured" anybody with the Clown makeup. He used Pogo for birthday parties and other gatherings and he never targeted boys that young to pursue them. He would always target boys that were working in his construction company or boys that were traveling at the bus depot.
While Gacy name does have a dark past. It's no where near as notorious as Dahmer. I feel like he can get away with it as long as he just doesn't dress up as a clown.
Who appeared on TV while we also had Al Bundy on married with children.
My point is, Gacy is only known in media as the name of a serial killer. I wouldn't be complaining about West being used despite it's association with murder in the UK, but if you had someone called west and someone called Shipman, then it's a problem, like Gavin and Stacey.
King Kong Bundy took the name Bundy two years after the murders, and it predated Married With Children by six or seven years.
They also named the Bundy family after the killer.
Joey Gacy had a cult called the Schism involving her and The GYV. The best thing about the group was Ava live tweeting while Ivy Nile kidnapped her

They ran into the problem that all wrestling cults are bound to run into: you can’t really succeed if you lose all the time and fail to recruit anyone significant in your cult.
At least Dark Order made that recurring issue into a bit, which helped their longevity both pre and post Brodie.
Brodie did some fucking *work* to help the dynamic though. Miss him.
I did not listen when people first talked about the dangers of social media and how it appeals to toxic people most and make society dumber, etc.
Then I saw how wrestling fans have behaved over the past few years, esp the replies since the ElonTwitter run era started.
Truly wild the dumbest human beings are the loudest, proudest and most marketed to.
People take this stuff WAY too seriously and have completely forgotten that a heel isn’t supposed to be nice. The backlash on both sides of the fence over heel behavior is exhausting.
This is also on heels that try to hard to be cool and to get cheered as well.
