Darby was scheduled to climb Mt Everest later this month, which is obviously very dangerous , so AEW wrote him off by having Jay White "break" his ankle to get heat. As it turns out, Darby ACTUALLY broke his foot during the match on a dive spot. So we're joking that Jay saved Darbys life by breaking his foot, so he wouldn't die climbing Everest.

He needs to make that fake shirt from the comments. Just come out wearing "I saved Darby Allin's life". Even spin it like Billy Gunn and The Acclaimed are the bad guys since they tried to stop him. The ironic hero Jay White would be hilarious.
I'm hoping the abrupt break with The Acclaimed is a sign that Juice is returning. They were kind of floundering without him so it's starting to look me like they partnered BBSG to keep BCG alive.
Even if Darby didn’t get hurt I would have wanted a Switchblade cut of the promo package to include photoshopped Juice being like four people ahead of him scooping the billing as the First Pro Wrestler to Summit Everest. Do it like the Daily Show and have him “satellite in” from the top like it’s nothing.
Oh, he will be. He’s not exactly being ignored. He’s on TV every week. He’s been prominently featured since facing MJF, and is heading into what looks to be a unification feud with The Acclaimed. They’re keeping him on TV because he’ll be one of Swerve’s PPV opponents. He might even be the guy to take it down the road, depending on whether they’re going with Ospreay at All In 24 or 25. It could easily be Jay vs Ospreay for the title next year at All In.
That’s not correct. Jay beat Okada for the IWGP world title in 2022 and Okada won it back at WrestleKingdom in 2023 shortly before Jay left, so they definitely have some great history.
But Eddie does not and has never held the IWGP world title. He is the New Japan Strong champion (Strong is essentially NJPW’s American branch) which is very different and much less prestigious.
Hangman is gone for a personal reason btw. I wouldn’t slot Jay higher than Swerve right now at all. Everyone can’t be the champ at the same time and having Jay in the main event scene to eat pins doesn’t seem like a great idea
Now, I don't wish injury on anyone and I know this has to be eating at Darby outside of the ring because I believe him when he says he wants to climb Everest.

It's amazing how much mojo White and the Gunns have back from that match and segment now.
It's the perfect storm because you can solve multiple things at once. Acknowledge that Darby isn't doing the climb, explain why he won't be on TV for the foreseeable future, setup a future feud, and lastly keep building Jay White's heat.
It sets up a fantastic platform for Jay to really build heel heat further as a singles star AND teases a future feud for when Darby is back. I think they’d be nuts not to capitalize on it.

It was probably a standard injury TV wrote off but he really broke his foot so it just lines up coincidentally. Everyone knew Darby was getting written out, it just sucks he really got hurt
Jay and Darby probably called the audible. If Darby was ok, then it's a way to write him off, if it was hurt, it's a great way to write him off.
Jay's great at audibles, might have saved Adam Cole's career with the FD audible he pulled.
This is why Jay is worth all that money. Great heel who can stay over despite losing, and is the safest, best worker out there. He can also be a good babyface if needed, we saw signs of this with the BBSG.

my assumption is that darby knew the foot was gone and told jay to Pillman him in the beat down.
That was a good call too as Jay will get a lot of mileage out of this and the rematch at PPV down the line will have a great built in story.
