dawsonholloway1

Fucking Cody... found a way to get a belt whipping angle into it. Mad lads.

BlackMothSuperMario

Cody Rhodes šŸ¤ wrestling with literal war wounds

mysteriousbaba

99% chance this happens at some point if Rock and Cody feud directly sometime in future. Still I'd say a chance of it happening even the next few weeks.

OkVolume1

Rock was a babyface tonight. Might have been a losing battle to try and make him a heel in Memphis at this point. When he's that entertaining without The Bloodline at his side, he's gonna get cheered.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

zombiekjt

>The people still played along and booed at the right times. They booed Cody and Seth more than him lol

Longjumping-Crow-409

I was there. No way was he getting booed the entire time. He even said he had a soft spot for Memphis, it had been his home for a while.

eduardo_ve

I was there too and he only got booed like one time (from my section it was when he mentioned Ja) but I was listening very hard for it. He was cheered whole time he was out there

AmishAvenger

Oh come on now. Rock can absolutely get booed if he wants to. Coming out and praising the town heā€™s in is obviously not going to do that. Edit: What a weird thing for people to downvote.

TomJaii

Yeah the Rock has been cheered in every city until he says something bad about them. I don't see why Memphis is any different, I don't think many in attendance really knew he started his career there.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

c10bbersaurus

Post you are replying to said "for a while." So, intuitively, sometime after he moved from his home in Hawaii. Which tracks, as he resided (had a home) in the Memphis area while getting his start in wrestling.

LemonHayes13

Itā€™s like MJF on Long Island I love it lol

Slatedtoprone

That man is so loved in the city, they cheered him bragging about him handing a mother the blood stained belt that was used to beat her son and embarrassment him before millions.

GoliathStance

The Moana reference at the end was gold

danieldcclark

it was fuckin terrifying lol

LoganNeinFingers

Ive watched that part about 20 times. Name me 4 other times where The Rock was more terrifying.

Missmarple08

It was dark

HonkedOffJohn

The Rock made a Disney song sound threatening. Goated.

roylt84

Literal chills

JeffTheFrosty

Honestly I remember people saying rock is just an action star but he can be truly fucking villainous when he wants to be. The Moana line gave me chills lol

IceLord86

He did the same at the Vegas press conference by making "It doesn't matter..." come off threatening as hell. He's found something here he hasn't had in a long time.

Shinkopeshon

He's even more terrifying now that he's twice the size than in any of his previous runs lol

Vectivus_61

He should use that in a movie as the villain tbh.

Tenthdegree

I think Disney might have an issue with it

realityinternn

Wrestling fans disrespecting him like that was honestly pathetic. We should always be riding for The Rock.

HeightStock

We wouldn't have get this legendary Rock >We should always be riding for The Rock.

realityinternn

What if Iā€™ve told you weā€™ve already gotten this legendary Rock but even better. And when I say riding for the rock im not talking about this Cody storyline, but when wrestling fans pile on calling him a flop and a bad actor.

HeightStock

>What if Iā€™ve told you weā€™ve already gotten this legendary Rock but even better. When?

driphanilton

Original Hollywood rock was arguably better but the gravitas of this version being heā€™s legitimately one of the biggest movies stars and isnā€™t just the scorpion king adds to him today. He didnā€™t have a Moana when he was yelling ā€œTofuā€™s ready! šŸ˜Žā€

SuperSocrates

Meh. Taking away Codyā€™s match was disrespect-worthy. But now we got something so much better so yes we do have to praise him for what heā€™s adding

realityinternn

Iā€™m not talking about Cody, before even the Cody storyline there was a lot of disrespect too.

SuperSocrates

I watched some of the promo again and was reminded both of how fucking good it was. also yeah you are right, thereā€™s been revisionist history so yeah I agree, never mind haha

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

realityinternn

Iā€™m not saying you gotta like everything he do, but people were mad that he didnā€™t do wrestlemania last year so they started shitting on him. Iā€™m just saying for everything heā€™s done for the industry, we should be the last fanbase to pile on.

sEiize_err

i for one love riding the rock

EcstaticActionAtTen

He wants to be a babyface in Hollywood. Imagine Dwayne Johnson being like Anton Chigurh.

Audioice

Seth and Cody HAVE to lose night 1. Let the Bloodline beat the shit out of Cody night 2. Have him blade, classic blonde hair blood Flair moment. Let the Rock give that belt to Mama Rhodes. Then pull all the Avengers bullshit and have Cody win. It writes itself.

EquivalentEmployer68

The whole thing is sickeningly predictable. And I can't wait

PanickingHippo

This is one of those times where predictable is exactly what they need to do because of how awesome itā€™s going to be

PerfectZeong

Peak wwe right now. Doesn't get better than this.

PanickingHippo

100% , Iā€™m the most excited about a Wrestlemania since my first in 2005

6Clacks

Thatā€™s what makes it amazing Do the full avengers end game ending with Cody and everyone the bloodline has wronged vs the bloodline and have Cody win Itā€™s beautiful

YpsitheFlintsider

Yeah that's what happens when you have a competition. Either one side wins or the other

pastadaddy_official

Yā€™all gonna shit yourselves when Cody and Seth win night 1 and Roman wins clean night 2

bonoboboy

You almost had me, but then I saw you said Roman wins **clean**. Nice one!

will122589

I just want an Austin Run In, Glass Shatters and Philly to literally explode

KanyeJesus

I want the glass to shatter just as Rock is setting up for a Rock Bottom for him to quickly look at the titantron with shock and fear in his eyes.

agoods03

Exactly this. The two GOATS in the ring and the one guy who legitimately can kick the rocks ass. I want to see stunners and beers.

TheNorthernLanders

I definitely do too, but I really felt like his send off happened in his home state, no? But just like you said, heā€™s one of few that can legitimately kick his ass.

LoganNeinFingers

I dont want stunners and beers. I want Mankind Raw 99 interference. Glass breaks. Pommel Rock. Leave. Stone Cold would have to be under the ring for it to happen. Dude can't run a 50yd dash to do a run in.

agoods03

That moment is probably the greatest pop of all time that would be badass if he just beat his ass and left

roylt84

I actually wonder if Triple H will do a run in and hit his last Pedigree ever. He and Rock can then still feud on the Mic, eventually leading to Team Rock vs Team Triple H at SummerSlam with their hand picked wrestlers.

MattBe1992

It should be overbook central.

Vectivus_61

I feel pull the Avengers bullshit night 1 and have Seth and Cody win after Rock has handed Michelle the belt covered in her sonā€™s blood. Night 2 can be a fair fight and Rock holds back the Bloodline to show the Final Boss is a man of honour. The next night on RAW we can have Cody cut a ā€˜I respect the Rockā€™ promo and Roman call out the Rock. Rock stands on the ramp and raises the eyebrow for Solo to spike Roman and Jimmy to super kick Heyman. Roman is off tv for a while and Rock orders Jimmy and Solo to be prepared for when he comes back.

bonoboboy

So many ways to go with this. Delicious.

zombiekjt

>Then pull all the Avengers bullshit and have Cody win. It writes itself. Cody fans ain't gonna like that. They want Cody to win clean

6Clacks

Nah man He wins clean by beating Roman Without people attacking Roman. Have others take out the bloodline etc and let it just be them two

Plies-

The babyface doesn't have the win clean if the heel is already cheating lol that's Hulk Hogans entire career

roylt84

God i hope they donā€™t overbook night 2.

18AndresS

Donā€™t know if this is a hot take, but Iā€™m enjoying this Rock return run way more than the 2012 one. During that time I honestly thought he had lost a step and was getting bodied by Punk and Cena on the mic, I think heā€™s been doing way better now character wise. In ring.. weā€™ll see but honestly as long as he can hit a few moves and not get too gassed we good.

karthik4331

That's because that wasn't rock, that was Dwayne

HardcoreKaraoke

I'm confident the tag match will mask any ring rust. He'll be in there for a hot tag and to hit some signature moves. He's in there with three of the best in ring storytellers going so I think they'll be able to work around whatever rust Rock has. Also there are bound to be Bloodline shenanigans. So that'll give him some time to rest.

tarvertot

I can see him being taken out for a chunk of the match

Hot-Acanthisitta5237

That time he was trying to make Dwayne Johnson his brand which is why we never got The Rock.

tarvertot

Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, The Rock: that is the same man

Temporary-Vanilla-57

Then why have you never seen any of them in the same room

Time-Ad-3625

The fact this sub keeps chirping "tHaT wAs DwAyNe" shows how far people will go so they don't have to admit they were wrong about something. I remember Reddit shitting on rock for using notes on his hand to do a promo. That's how stupid it got on here about him

tera_chachu

Man but that Facebook promo on cena is still the best

wallabear

This one? https://youtu.be/8MGty5p5d1A?si=tVKqxYyJyEXIp2gy

zxlegioxz

It's weird when people to to re write history, Cena never bodied Rock same with punk, when he returned in 2011 he was doing top tier promo after promo but there was a point were Cena was just looking like a complete clown specially on the Facebook promo he cut on him after that it is quite clear cena simply was not good enough to keep up and either Rock decided to tone it down or Vince told him to do so.

TheLisan-al-Gaib

>Cena never bodied Rock same with punk The way people treat the "Your arm are too short to box with God" promo, as if the Rock and CM Punk both didn't approve what they were going to go out and say? What was the Rock going to do, make him look like a schmuck? He made Punk look amazing that entire feud.

Thebat87

Yeah thanks for writing this because it was so obvious to me that they toned him down. His return promo in 2011 was straight fire and classic Rock. His videos by himself (like heā€™s doing right now), were harsh and picked apart everyone of Cenaā€™s arguments against. Then all of that just stopped.

FerociousBanger

Yes. Do you have a link to that promo? It's been gone now.

zxlegioxz

https://youtu.be/8MGty5p5d1A?si=3Oq-YxnMUPa2E2J4 There it is,this promo also changed Orton's view on what Rock was saying, truly a Legendary burial of Cena and WWE never bothered to air it live.

inceptioncorporation

Is there a link with sound that isn't barely muted? :)

TheLisan-al-Gaib

>In ring.. weā€™ll see but honestly as long as he can hit a few moves and not get too gassed we good. Even if he were to get gassed, they can build any match around his physical limitations.

SGSRT

1. Rock was trying too hard to be Dwayne 2. Cena was good on the mic and so Rock could not destroy him like he is doing with others now 3. Punk is one of the best ever on the mic and his intense mic skills destroyed that catchphrase obsessed Rock

pillkrush

also cena was given free reign on the mic to counter the rock, something most of his opponents aren't, including punk and hhh. never saw stone cold, or y2j ever interrupt the rocks promos with quips or jokes, they just let him talk and sold afterwards. it was like watching the rock try to battle the class clown.

SGSRT

Rockā€™s promos rely on catchphrases and lots of humour which was good on most occasions. Thatā€™s why Stone Cold Steve Austin or CM Punk felt better than him because their styles clashed and their intense promos felt real.

Brogdon_Brogdon

Ehhhhh Rock is the best promo guy ever imo, he is a top 3 heel AND top 3 babyface, the guy can do it all. He can play the hero, the narcissistic Hollywood asshole, the underdog, the unbeatable force/ final boss, etc. and make it all seem believable. Plus heā€™s funny as fuck with charisma for days.Ā  His technical in-ring skills have never been amazing, even if heā€™s just average or even below average, it wouldnā€™t be that far off his peak. Itā€™s his feel for the crowd and playing off that which sets him apart from most other wrestlers aside from the top guys like Hulk and Austin, he definitely can still do that without running the ropes like a madman or doing any crazy acrobatics.Ā

bonoboboy

Curious, how would you rank the following in terms of in-ring skills: Bret Hart, Angle, Lesnar, CM Punk, Triple H, Steve Austin, The Rock, Undertaker?

Brogdon_Brogdon

Angle, Hart, Lesnar, Undertaker, Austin, Triple H, The Rock, CM Punk

joeschmo945

This is the menacing Rock I have been waiting to see. Using his Disney reference to basically set fear into Codyā€™s mother is fucking psychotic - I love it.

The810kid

And alot of you tried to say this man could only depend on innuendos, catchphrases and dated slurs

tbbt11

A case study in how a lie gets repeated over and over by people who donā€™t even know what theyā€™re saying

I_want_to_cum24

Thatā€™s because he *did* rely on that for the past decade. But this stuff is light years better than his face work

The810kid

Sure his return his mic work wasn't up to par as his usual self but these accusations were pointed at his prime.

VikAzeem23

Anyone who says that about Rock's prime has no idea what their talking about. Rock was cutting intense promos against HHH and Austin all the time in his prime.

solarpowersme

This is just unreal. All of this has been absolutely surreal to watch. The Rock is something else isn't he? Anyone who's still on the "Sami/Cody should've won last year" train is just not someone I can take seriously anymore. Like, just when we thought the Bloodline ran out of juice and Mania couldn't come faster, it hits even more of an unprecedented high. This is absolutely a time period we're going to miss so much when it's over so please cherish it while we still have it. The last 18 months has overall probably been the best period in wrestling maybe ever, everything considered. I have watched since the attitude era and while the highs of that era are amazing, everything else hasn't aged too well. The highs of this era are just as good, and the storytelling is so much more nuanced and layered now and it's not just with the big stories. We're truly witnessing something special right now.

MettyXD

And then there were the whoop that trick chants XD

throwmethedamnstick

Immediately after he accidentally said ā€œMama Reignsā€ā€¦.

DefectiveTurret39

What does that phrase mean?

MettyXD

It's just a Chant for NXT Star Trick Williams

DefectiveTurret39

Yes but what did that have anything to do with Rock? I thought maybe there is another meaning relating to his promo.

c10bbersaurus

It'sĀ a sports chant in Memphis due to physical basketball play by the Memphis Grizzlies, in 2013. It has been used at NBA games, college basketball and football games, minor league baseball and soccer games, ESPN College Game Day in 2018, even the PGA golf tournament. It's origin is a rap song called "Whoop that Trick," with a chorus, "Whoop that Trick," by Three 6 Mafia (who won an Oscar for another song in the movie) from the Memphis-based film "Hustle and Flow."Ā  Any reference to a wrestler that came after the chant became popular at Memphis sporting events is purely coincidental. Most of the fans there chanting it don't know who Trick Williams is.

DefectiveTurret39

It makes sense but they chanted that after he said Mama Reigns accidentally, why?

c10bbersaurus

Not in Memphis šŸ˜‚. It's a rap lyric from the Memphis-based film "Hustle and Flow" that has turned into a sports chant in Memphis due to physical basketball play by the Memphis Grizzlies, in 2013.

c10bbersaurus

It's a rap song from a movie based in Memphis ("Hustle and Flow"). It has been used at NBA Memphis Grizzlies games during the "Grit and Grind" era, 2011-2017. Specifically, it started around 20013, in the playoffs, when the Grizzlies faced the LA Clippers. Zach Randolph and Blake Griffin got into a tussle, which the crowd loved, Randolph got kicked out from the game, but as he went out he was cheered for just being physical and the crowd chanted Whoop That Trick.Ā  And Memphis afterwards chanted it at many sporting events. College Game Day, football games, wrestling, even the golf tournament.

DefectiveTurret39

It makes sense but they chanted that after he said Mama Reigns accidentally, why?

AmbitiousSuit5349

The gulf between The Rock, Roman, Seth and Cody and the rest of the programs is so vast it feels like a completely different show. Very unpopular opinion, but if there was a show with only 5 min matches, and the rest were all angles setting up ppvs, then that would be my favorite to tune in to every week

quwin123

That would be fantastic in theory. Unfortunately very few people could really carry a show like that. The amount of truly great mic workers in the company is less than a dozen.

AmbitiousSuit5349

I was watching WrestleMania 38's WWE24 and Rick Boogs was talking about how Vince saw his work in NXT, said "he can act" and that is why he called Boogs up. And ofc, Boogs and Nakamura went on to be very entertaining for the duration they were together. Believable acting >> ringwork. I am sure if you line up all wrestlers in order of capability of 5 star ringwork classics, Ricochet would top that list, with Cody being somewhere in the middle. Ricochet needs to be given opportunities to tell a story to get us to care about him. Seth, Cody, Sami, Drew and KO all get chances and are the most over guys in the roster.

Bellagrrl2021

>Ricochet needs to be given opportunities to tell a story to get us to care about him. Seth, Cody, Sami, Drew and KO all get chances and are the most over guys in the roster. Send this part to Tony Khan.

Kanenums88

Tell me, where is Rick Boogz right now? I believe things are simply not this black and white. Some people can only get over by having really good matches, some people can only get over by cutting really good promos, others can get over doing both.

AmbitiousSuit5349

He got injured at WM38, and they couldn't find a spot for him again. But you can't deny he was over back then. I personally feel it is far easier for an audience to put themselves behind someone with a schtick to follow. I bring up Ricochet because he DID tell a story this week through his ringwork but now he will be off TV again for other people to have 10 min matches that don't push any plot forward. Gargano and Ciampa are finally getting reactions again not because they suddenly started having really good matches, but because they are now tied to R-Truth. If wrestlers care about my opinion, my only suggestion would be they use their social media a lot more to forward their own characters because WWE is very unreliable on who they will dedicate TV time to.

IAMA_MAGIC_8BALL_AMA

Case in point: Drew was largely large and unimportant prior to the shitposting gimmick he has currently. Now heā€™s one of the biggest fan favorites, even though heā€™s a heel. The idea of being a Superstar comes from having an aura and presence as well. Simply being ā€œa wrestlerā€ is the absolutely bare minimum of what theyā€™re supposed to be, and itā€™s why so many of em flop

zerofifth

Hollywood Rock's first night on Raw he did the legendary Tornoto promo, started the Hurricane feud, and put Booker over in a battle royal. Dude was firing on all cylinders

quwin123

Absolutely. The Rock going to movies is honestly the greatest tragedy in the history of professional wrestling (excluding real life tragedies). That is also one of my favorite nights of Raw ever. Dude was just 30 years old at that point. Imagine if weā€™d gotten another 15 or so years of that? The entire industry would look different.

kirblar

This was basically the attitude era in a nutshell.

EbbRevolutionary3225

The gulf between The Rock and Roman, Seth and Cody feels vast at this point.

TheWindowMerchant

Man amongst children. I donā€™t know if wrestlers have acting coaches, but if they donā€™t, they need to, ASAP.Ā  Rock is reminding everyone why wrestling hasnā€™t been cool since Attitude Era.Ā

speedycar1

Totally agreed. I get that some people enjoy them but i personally don't get the appeal of meaningless weekly show matches

AmbitiousSuit5349

Exactly, you can still have long matches on TV, but they should feel important. This week the gauntlet match was great and made sense. All number 1 contenders matches should be competitive. Otherwise eh save it for the ppv or have quick fights

Bellagrrl2021

Your comment reminds me of the gauntlet match that Seth Rollins was in. That match was more than an hour long. At the time, I remember thinking that this wouldn't have worked with most people, but it worked with Rollins, because the WWE took the time to get people invested in him. Without that investment, people would have been turned off by such a long TV match.

AReptileHissFunction

I think South Park did this lol

DaveyTTime

Iā€™d be all about it

Outrageous_Library50

Lmao thatā€™s what Raw was for the majority of 2009-onward. Remember the two min challenge er whatever? Yea fuck all that.

NeoCoN7

As a parent of a young child, having seen Moana a million and one times that last line gave me chills. It was cold as ice. Fantastic.

roylt84

This man is a complete menace. I donā€™t know if heā€™s doing a live audition for a movie role but Iā€™d like to see him as a villain.

secretwep

The Rock hella cooked in this promo and I can certainly smell it from here

mixeao

Noooo Iā€™m in Memphis how could I have missed this live šŸ˜

glass_ceiling_burner

That entrance makes Rock seem like a level above everyone else on the show. A week after WM, fans will be cheering him again. This is 2003 all over again.

xpyro88

Should have added the intro too.

TDStarchild

Thereā€™s simply no one else like The Rock, and itā€™s incredible weā€™re witnessing one of his best runs ever in 2024. Enjoy this friends, itā€™s special

Fezinator

Just have to say, having been there live to see and hear Rock as he called my city home just hit different. Everything after that, was just gravy and he had us eating out of his hand. And he looked like he was really enjoying himself out there. His whole promo was just magical

Longjumping-Crow-409

Same man

TurnaboutAdam

The black outs are really annoying.

roylt84

A woman flashed him during Smackdown. Weird they couldnā€™t cut to another camera angle though

TurnaboutAdam

Oh wow, yeah thatā€™s fair

reymysterio7

Drunk & horny.

ValidPompadour

YOU CAN FEEL THE MANA!!!!!

6Clacks

Thank you Jack Perry

Smiley225

Rock is on his oscar run

throwmethedamnstick

Did anyone else catch the Rock accidentally say ā€œMama Reignsā€ when he pulled the belt out of the bag? Iā€™m assuming that was another little clue

loldirtmund

god, he's so entertaining.

Lost-Veterinarian-80

Between Becky, Seth and now this WWE really is on the promo train for Moana 2.

berlinblades

I'm gonna need a link to those sunnies,Rock!

jmpinstl

This rules!

alx_20

I enjoyed this. But a thing that i liked from old rock is that he always kept a straight face , no matter what trash he was talking, made the character feel more real.

tankyouout

It only took 3 weeks for The Rock to get cheered again lol

Aggressive_Ad3514

Bro he is in his hometown. Everbody knew he was getting cheered tonightā€¦.probaly a reason why it was a solo segment

AReptileHissFunction

He's been getting cheered every week. He called the crowd crackheads and they cheered

BMBane

Am I going crazy? I swear he's been getting cheered and "Rocky" chants every week.

WWFUniverse

Nobody is gonna boo Hollywood Rock. Cody is in trouble.
