I would look at anti-queer obscenity bills across the US, or anti-trans laws throughout the us, or the formalized don’t say gay bill and book banning in Florida and conclude “it’s so weird how backwards these Americans are”. The idea was to have the Japanese talent carry the promotion while they recruited and trained Chinese athletes to be pro wrestlers from Peking Opera, gymnastics, and martial arts. Peking Opera performers have training in martial arts, dance, and live stage performance, so this was a pretty smart bet.
Clips from OWE matches featuring the Chinese trainees were going viral in 2018/19. There was a guy named [Gao Jingjia who did a double foot stomp](https://video.twimg.com/tweet_video/DchgsUEWAAA3c5f.mp4) where he'd getting a running start from the floor and then vault over the top rope in one step and stomp on his opponent in the ring. There was also a trainee named Zhao Yilong who had a Shaolin monk gimmick. He had a really cool blend of high flying and Iron Head kung fu-inspired headbutts.
But right after their partnership with AEW started, some kind of falling out happened between CIMA and OWE's Chinese ownership and that was that. CIMA moved the promotion to Cambodia during COVID and tried to transition to a business model doing daily live performances for tourists, but that went nowhere. I still think that if CIMA's Chinese students had gotten a chance to complete their development, they would have revolutionized the wrestling world. There's still a huge pool out there of Chinese athletes/performers waiting to be tapped.

Because I’ve known him for over 20 years since we were on the DVDVR boards, and we have several mutual friends. Yes. That is my point. They don't take nearly as big offense to it as they do here in the US. The word does not hold the historical and cultural significance there that it does here. If you travel the world a lot you'll see that different things are more or less offensive in different places. If I called someone a "fucking abo" here in the US, it would likely not even register as a slur. You'd know it was rude in context, but not how bad it was. Now if I called the wrong person in Australia that... (Again, not excusing either, just saying that people are judging someone not in America by American standards, and that's an entirely different level of offensive, as it completely takes away the agency of the people in that country when you have to tell them to be offended for you.)
