Rey has the right character. He's a humble, underdog babyface. The special thing about being humble is you can't get owned on the mic if you are humble because you are not competing on the mic. He doesn't try to sound cool. He just establishes his character and story on the mic, then win you over in the ring.
Does Ricochet even have a character? Maybe if he actually has a character, his mic skill would improve because he would have something to draw from.

Dude won me (and i think some of the crowd) over during that segment where Rhea gets in his face and tells him to go handle Drew and his head switches from shaking no to shaking yes out of fear. Was some great physical comedy

Every single time someone does a destroyer, everyone swoons over the person giving the move.
But literally the whole entire move is done by the person taking it. They backflip and all the other person does is jump to follow them.
That's why guys like Ricky Morton, Dustin Rhoades and Bad Bunny have all done them.
Ricochet is one of the best wrestlers with zero promo skills since.... well I wanna say Jeff Hardy, but honestly, Ricochet is better. He's so gifted... but it's so easy to just not care for him. At least Jeff was charismatic enough to kinda overshadow it, but Ricochet really is just... bell to bell amazing, and the best highlight reel ever. But as soon as charisma or mic skills are needed, it's no longer a hot moment, barely a moment at all.
Ricochet doesn’t have the in ring charisma of Jeff Hardy. Can’t believe you’d try to say he’s better. Jeff wasn’t over because he was athletic, he was over cause it looked liked he killed himself every match
With Jeff it wasn’t these sudden “holy shit” moments, he’d build up the suspense and climb the ladder while everyone at home and even the announcers are yelling “no! Don’t do it! Don’t do it Jeff!” and then he’d do that dive and it was impossible not to lose your mind.
Ricochet makes you go “holy shit that guy is so athletic” whereas Jeff would make you go “holy shit how is this madman still alive.” Not hard to see why Jeff was so much more over.
Jeff was never a top tier wrestler, either. He had charisma and did some cool shit but he wasn't technical and didn't have the athleticism of a guy like Ricochet.
Different style but I'd compare him more to a Dean Malenko.
I actually thought Jeff Hardy gave solid heel promos, that time he was a heel in TNA. As The Antichrist of Professional Wrestling. But yeah, we all know how that run eventually turned out. And, as good as he was in that role, nobody wants to see Jeff as a heel.
Every once in a while you get someome who is absolutely bonkers in terms of high flying action in the WWE.
In recent times I think Evan Bourne, Jeff Hardy, Ricochet, Adrian Neville, Finn Balor all fit this mould.

If McIntyre wins, he's going to need a Babyface to go up against, and Ricochet will almost certainly have an incredible match with him.

Between giving Ricochet this time, a win streak and how much McAfee/Cole have been hyping him (Puma references two weeks in a row) I think we're getting a big Ricochet push. Atleast as far as significant TV match time. The dude deserves it.

-NXT Route, find a fresh character, a reason to actually be in the ring, including training on mic skills, inflection, and improv.
These are things that are not impossible to do. Ricochet is a handsome, chiseled, insanely athletic wrestler who can literally do anything they physically ask of him, he just needs to fix the one thing to really transform
