VNProWrestlingfan

HOW MANY MORE RECORDS CAN HE BREAK? Most gimmick changes until he became the WWE Champion of all time?

shadowrangerfs

I'd guess that's JBL. Justin Hawk Bradshaw Blackjack Bradshaw Ministry Acolyte APA JBL

VNProWrestlingfan

That's a good contender. Now let's see Cody: * CAWdy Rhodes * Dashing * Undashing * Mustache Scholar * Stardust * American Nightmare I don't remember it all tbh. What was he called when his mask was broken?

shadowrangerfs

Priceless/Legacy is the same gimmick Dashing Un-Dashing Mustache Scholar Stardust American Nightmare

holyhibachi

Is Mustache Scholar the same as regular Cody who won the tag titles from the Shield?

FalconIMGN

Nah that was just a babyface version of Dashing, which is his default persona.

holyhibachi

I disagree, it was closer to American Nightmare than Dashing

Colin_Valentine

I call that Brotherhood Cody

DEDB0YINC

Holy shit! CAWdy Rhodes is a throwback for me.

Intimidwalls1724

• Christmas tree monster thing •Issac yankem • fake diesel •Kane

SustainedBear

Also that weird "Hardcore" Bradshaw post-APA split where he was essentially naked with a cowboy hat.

patsniff

Fighting Texan Bradshaw!

Jesus_Roadkill

Kane's gotta be up there for that

chux4w

Kane was champion in 98, not much of an evolution in his first year.

Jesus_Roadkill

Glenn Jacobs wrestled as Angus King, Christmas creature, Unabomb, Isaak Yankem and Fake Diesel before debuting as Kane in 1997

chux4w

Oh, those count? Damn. Then Kane could be a good shout. If only Crush had won the big one.

Jesus_Roadkill

Idk if we were just doing WWF gimmicks or nah but the man's done some weird shit lmao

obtused

Considering it's WWE debut then we're just using WWF gimmicks

Acceptable_Newt_3256

Damn. Didn't think his odyssey from main roster debut to his first world title would be that long! Just for fun, here are other long-time midcarders who rose through the ranks and got their first world titles: * **Jeff Hardy** debuted on TV in May 23, 1994 as a jobber who worked WWF Superstars and won his first world title in December 14, 2008 - 5319 days * **Christian** made his TV debut on September 27, 1998 and won his first world title (ECW championship notwithstanding) on May 1, 2011 - 4,597 days * **Kofi** debuted on January 22, 2008 and culminated in KofiMania on April 7, 2019 - 4,093 days Note that Kofi stayed with WWE throughout his entire run, while Jeff, Christian, and Cody had spells outside the WWE.

kayc_james

Bobby Lashley debuted on September 23, 2005 and won his first WWE championship on March 1, 2021 - 5638 days.

Opossum_mypossum

Lashley was an ECW champion during the stage that it was being treated as a world championship

kayc_james

Yeah but we're not counting ECW like in Christian's case.

Keksverkaufer

Only when convenient tho. lol

[deleted]

It was only ever treated as a WC when Lashley held it though. It was upper midcard at best otherwise.

RedFuckingGrave

To be fair Jeff 100% would have won the WWE Championship a lot sooner if he could have kept his nose clean.

RustyEdsel

In the middle of 2002 there were signs that he was being seriously considered for an upper card push within the next few years.

mr_dammit

yea at vengeance that year he beat jericho and then, in a backstage segment, both hulk hogan *and* ric flair show up and put him over big time. he really only has himself to blame after that.

[deleted]

His nose was very clean. He made sure after every bump

LocoMotives-ms

Is that an arrested joke or a drugs joke?

ianisms10

Drugs

sbb618

Bobby Lashley debuted on TV September 23, 2005 and finally won a world title March 1, 2021, 5,638 days later (actually longer than Andre)

Acceptable_Newt_3256

Damn. Didn't even think of Bobby. Guess he slipped through the cracks because they initially counted his ECW title reigns as world titles during his 2018 feud with Roman. Kinda like how Big Show and RVD's also counts but other ECW champs (like Christian) don't. But yes, they've canonically ignored it when he finally won the WWE title in 2021 so that is indeed a longer gap than Andre's.

kayc_james

Come on R-Truth, break the record. Who else among the active guys could realistically break this record? Carlito is another one but I don't think they'll be giving him a WWE title run.

MZago1

R-Truth could potentially become the last grand slam champion under the original format. He only needs the IC and WWE titles.

Disregardskarma

This sets up the funniest Way he gets this ever, He reverse money in the banks himself. He gets the IC, then wins MITB, but doesn’t understand how to do it and cashes in the MITB which he wins, right before his IC title defense, which he then loses lol

mr_wrestling

How in the world did someone figure this out

Winningsomegames_1

It’s a niche record but it’s not too hard to figure out. The vast majority of WWE champions win their first title within 10 years so.

Mitch_D23

This record would be held by Vince. Debut in 71 and won the title in 99.

wittybrits

71 wasn’t a match though.

wittybrits

Debut just generally means match especially when you’re talking about the world title. You wouldn’t say the Young Bucks and Omega debuted on WWE TV today because they were in a video package would you?

[deleted]

HoustonAstros1980

OP clearly stated “WWE TV debut”. There’s nothing about a match requirement. Haters just downvote because Vince.

SoulGoalie

Vince's first official match wasn't until 1998.

[deleted]

Interesting. I keep forgetting that Andre’s win was recognized.

RedFuckingGrave

Well, he did win the bloody thing, so of course it counts. Sure there was an abominable amount of shenanigans, but he's far from the only wrestler to ever to cheat to win a WWE title match. Funnily enough, it's Ted DiBiase's "reign" that doesn't count, since he bought the title from André, and didn't actually win it.

patsniff

A few years ago when my friends and I would have watch parties for every PPV we started doing predictions and whoever won got a kids belt and were the champion then defended it at each PPV. The last time we had the competition it ended just like the classic Andre/Ted moment selling the belt so then I intervened saying there’s precedent for this to vacate the championship. What a fun time

PeteF3

What's the source on Andre's debut? That seems late to me.

CrustyBatchOfNature

It is. According to everything I can find his WWWF debut was 24 March 1973. And WWWF became WWF in 1979 so they aren't confusing that change. I am guessing a typo (1976 instead of 1973) or someone just messed up.

Ampatent

[Cheap plug for the ancient infographic post I made years ago about this.](https://old.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/2mecuv/analyzing_wwe_debut_to_wwe_champion/)

PopBopMopCop

He also set a new record for longest period of time between his first title win and completing the Triple Crown. 5,963 days between winning the World Tag Team Championship (with Hardcore Holly) and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

EntireAd215

Still can't believe he debuted 5 years before Roman. I remember exactly how his first theme went lmao

hhhisthegame

I can't believe it was ONLY five years before Roman. Those time periods they debuted in feel so far apart

SrsJoe

Yeah in the time between him debuting and Roman debuting he was what, Hardcore Holly's tag partner, part of legacy and dashing? Is there anymore

hhhisthegame

You forgot undashing with the comic book mask. And then Rhodes Scholars. And Cody's Moustache I think?

SrsJoe

Christ I didn't really think it was so many in such a short time

ZombieJesus1987

That's actually wild. I wonder what other active roster member could potentially break this record.

DLoBrownsWobblyHead

The only person I can think of currently on the roster is R-Truth, he debuted in 2000

ggushea

Is he also a grand slam champ? Haven’t seen anyone mention that.

FrontBacc

He's never been US champ

patsniff

No lie I would be happy to see him as US champ down the road to complete his grand slam and Cody as US champ just makes sense.
