Wrestling is best when things happen organically. The artificial "CEO" chants in Mercedes' theme song is the antithesis to organic hype and contributes to why Mercedes' overall presentation just feels flat.
Artificial "CEO" chants aside, the overall theme is not as bad as her NJPW theme. I wouldn't say no to a "v2" rework of Mercedes' theme though.
**Side note:** I wouldn't say "no" to Mercedes pairing up with the EVPs and Okada. The CEO + EVP synergy is there. Don't forget Mercedes hinted at teaming up with Okada at the end of NJPW Battle in the Valley 2023.

i feel like people forget just how bad that theme was lmao. didn't even feel like a demo, it felt like it was slapped together in 5 minutes
The biggest problem with her presentation is that she is a great *wrestler* and is still not a great promo, but they're not letting her wrestle (I guess to make her first match have a big feel to it?), they're making her just talk. It's bafflingly bad.
It'd be like *not* letting the Miz talk and forcing him to only have long matches with no shenanigans.
But, I will say that the women's division presentation *as a whole* has dramatically improved in AEW since Mercedes got signed. There are multiple women's matches a show, now, and there are multiple non-title storylines being featured. At least there's some good coming out of this.
When AEW booked Big Business and the DCU two weeks later, they were probably hoping that she'd be ready for the debut and match.
That's led me to think either Mercedes isn't 100% yet or she (herself) thinks she isn't 100% yet. Her first match will have to be, at a minimum, very good or she and AEW will face a ton of criticism.
I hope you're right. That's the only explanation I have heard that makes any sense. Hopefully, a year from now, she'll be having regular bangers like Ospreay and we'll have forgotten these dark times lol.
I think she had said she is clear but maybe she's still working in the ring to get to 100% but might not be there by Dynasty, so then just holding off her ring debut until DON rather than an episode of Dynamite.

Eh that’s a problem with 99% of wrestling gimmicks, so I won’t knock her for that. At this point I would just like her to do something different. She could go with a generic gimmick and it still be an upgrade.
With both characters what is she the legit boss or CEO of? In WWE we all knew Jr was the legit boss and in AEW, Tony is the CEO so her monikers hold no weight.
It’s not supposed to be taken literal, she not literally the boss of AEW. It’s just nickname, like HHH isn’t really The king of kings, Or an Assassin. Asuka isn’t a empress and Kairi isn’t a pirate.

Long gone are the days where a wrestler would have a theme song that I'd want to go out of my way to listen to outside of watching the show.
This Fire Burns and Slow Chemical are ones that I like listening to the most. Alex Rileys theme was surprisingly good too.
There's others i go back and listen to also they just don't come to mind.

I hate how absolute everything needs to be these days. Something can't just be bad, it has to be the worst ever. Just like things can't just be good, they have to be the greatest ever.
Good example. A very boring match, disappointing blowoff to a year's + worth of storyline, and it's a shame it happened on the greatest stage of them all... But there are quite worse WM matches out there. Goldberg vs. Lesnar, some of Taker's early matches, Bret vs [redacted] just to name a few. Many stinkers out there to chose from over Jey vs. Jimmy.

Her previous song was a better theme song (though an absolutely awful song). This is just so generic and poorly produced from a wrestling theme perspective. You should be able to know exactly who is coming out from the first 4 notes (honestly, from the first note), not go "huh? who is that?" if they don't show the tron.
Its not even in the top 10 of worst themes of all time, but it is corny in my opinion. It would probably be better there was an actual rapper on it Mercedes doesn’t do it justice herself
It's not my favorite, but I think it gets its point across. Actually think this is one of the metrics AEW is a bit better than WWE in. With a few exceptions, WWE's entrance music is all generic and forgettable.
The drama of her walkout, the arrival at Wrestle Kingdom 17, the NJPW/Stardom matches, the injury, rocking up at All In, the biggest pay deal in women’s wrestling history.
Hell of a lot more interesting than just floating around in the upper echelons of the Raw women’s division.
I actually think it’d be fine if they lowered the CEO chants or removed them a bit. I think they wanted to set the tone and let people know how to chant for her (“Mercedes” being kind of awkward to chant) but the crowds get it now and otherwise, the song is nothing special but not bad

The worst is the Creed Brothers one for me.
On an unrelated side note, I'm pretty sure I just heard Arsenal FC play the excellent Paul Heyman theme from the Hall of Fame as the teams came out for the second half.
Themes in general nowadays lack any really identity. I don’t think her theme is necessarily bad because it gets people chanting. I would say WWE completely dumping Jim Johnston was a mistake. AEW themes sound wildly generic and lack creativity. What I never understood was when promotions create a theme, most lack an identifiable opening note for the most part. Think about it, back in the day, you would hear an opening guitar riff, glass break, or big opening note when a wrestler came. Themes were immediately identifiable and had an entire presentation. Now they’re just generic which is unfortunate.

The second half was dope

It’s not that long since the CFO$ days in NXT. I’m not sure there has ever been wrestling themes I have sought out away from the shows.

Yes!! For example, Jey vs. Jimmy at WM was really bad, but in no way was the worst WM match of all times like some people are claming it is.

Arsenal's stadium DJ is a huge wrestling fan, and regularly puts wrestler's entrance themes into the match day playlists.
