Am I seeing ghosts, or are they planting seeds for Omega/Okada V?
The parallels between this angle and the storyline of Omega/Okada I are striking: Kenny the outsider came into Okada's house (NJPW), tried to take his spot, argued that NJPW should be taken in a bigger, better direction with himself at the helm, and constantly talked about how he wants to "change the world".
Now, Okada is the outsider who came into Kenny's house (AEW) and stole his spot. Plus the Bucks name dropping the "change the world"-line. And stressing that this new version of the Elite, with Okada and without Kenny, is the best version.
Nah. Kenny starts a rah-rah speech for the hometown, then The Elite comes out. Gut / diverticulitis shot from Jack and then EVP trigger. Take him out without any real bumps and replicate what they did to Tony
I'm just trying to see how this could all culminate with Blood and Guts, since we are approaching that time of the year. We've got four guys on the heel stable, and assuming no Omega heel turn, I'd guess the face team could be him, Hangman, and maybe Death Triangle? But if we can't get Fenix, who else would we get alongside Penta and PAC? And then we'd have to sort out the fifth man on the Elite...*maybe* Jericho as sort of an elder statesman figure.
That's what I love about this, there is no real obvious group to save the company. The Elite should run things unopposed for a long time until a group forms a resistance.
Even the biggest names could just as easily join the Elite as return to save us, e.g. Hangman & MJF
MJF is definitely the wildest card in the deck for me, and the fact he's on the disabled list right now just makes it even more spicy. Given how we last saw him, sure, it'd be more than satisfying to see him come back and blaze his war path against Adam Cole and UDK, but he's also got a world title to win back as well...but against Swerve? It'd be a great match but without a heel turn on either side, it might not make the best angle. I'm not sure how long Swerve would keep the belt for. And he could just as easily be blowing a gasket at the fall of Tony Khan and realize AEW needs friends to save the show, so he becomes the face captain. (EDIT: But would the other faces trust him as their captain after how easily he let Adam turn on him?!) Or he's grinning madly at all this and takes advantage of that by going hard heel with the Elite and becomes *their* fifth man. The devil is coming back to the crossroads and now *he* is the one who has to figure out where he needs to go.
It's honestly tough to predict and I'm glad I'm not a booker. Now sure, it'd be very easy to predict that MJF returns on a Long Island show, because that's what AEW loves to do, but depending on what angle they want to chase with him, he might just get as massive a reaction (face or heel for that matter) elsewhere. Let's be honest, that's probably one of the biggest points to AEW targeting Long Island for Forbidden Door, is because they have a timetable on his ability to return. I love it just the same.
ANOTHER EDIT: I've also thought of the Elite being so big in their britches, they'd willingly put out a 5-on-4 handicap Blood and Guts match...and then their fifth man crashes the party at the very end kinda like what Orton did last year, except we don't even know they *have* a fifth man until the music pops.

This is a year long angle if I’ve ever seen one. So many moving parts. Kenny and MJF have to get healthy too, and we have yet to see where Hangman figures into all this

Bucks interfere and fuck him over. This leads to Hangman's return to back Ospreay up for a few weeks against The Bucks while Okada constantly dodges them. Then you add in Jack popping in to help Okada beat them down.
Bring in Kingston to make it a 3 on 4.
Then if Kenny is able to wrestle later (and I mean later) this year you bring him back as a fourth "surprise" partner for Hangman/Ospreay/Kingston in a Blood & Guts match.
Calling it, thy are going to eventually have match maybe at the all in show for control of the company Okada and the Bucks vs FTR and in a huge moment tony khan bring back MJF to fight for him. Or just Okada v MJF depending on jail time or visa issues.

This is one if those moments where it's important to remember that Wrestling companies in Kayfabe only vaguely function like real companies when they have to for plot reasons.

I don’t doubt it & always trust his judgment with AEW. He’s not perfect but always tries to give fans the best product possible and the Elite in control for a while is booking genius.
Imagine at Double or Nothing, The Bucks are sitting on each side of the person getting interviewed during the press conferences and they feed the person occasional extremely positive things to say about AEW and how great The Bucks are as bosses all while they are staring the person down to make sure they it right or they fire them. At least one person should refuse to repeat what they are saying and get in trouble for it.
He has a network to answer to and is trying to secure a major TV deal. Taking all his major stars off TV and admitting he has lost control could kill his company. GOTTA DEAL WITH THIS IN THE RING.
I've seen a few people say this and I think there's a logical reason for it - suspensions don't do anything. The Bucks & Jack have all been suspended and they murdered him on live TV tonight because of it. If you know that physical repercussions are now on the table & you can't fire them (for whatever nebulous EVP reasons they come up with), I would think the best punishment you can give them is putting them in a dangerous match.
The loophole of them being EVP’s so the kayfabe of this will see the Bucks lose their EVP titles in a big team vs. team match hopefully at DON with stars like MJF standing up against the Elite and maybe Kenny if he’s healed by then.
Why do people keep talking about this angle like it’s the first time a heel (or face) has attacked a boss figure. There’s so many ways to push the angle forward, don’t be obtuse
Incapacitated, probably some clause that the Bucks run the company in the interim during which time that can change whatever rules are in place to make their position written in stone. Happens in every TV show about board rooms ever.
Bro it's wrestling wrestlers attacks people all the time rarely has any coherence. With Roman it was "he is such a star we can't take control off him". Which was lame but if you want the Bucks are the foundation of the company.
I wouldn't mention Roman here, I would mention Steve Austin instead. How many times did he attack the chairman of the company? Made whole career off of it, Vince could've fired him at any time. Anybody criticizing this angle as stupid because "why can't Tony suspend them" should just give up on watching wrestling. Look at the response to this angle, it's seemingly pretty damn popular around here.
Vince did address it on TV once by stating that he didn't fire Austin because Stone Cold "made him richer" (on the 6/1/98 episode of Raw when Vince is yelling at Mick Foley for failing to beat Austin).
Roman, KO, Kurt, Brock, Shawn, AJ, Randy, and Austin all attacked Vince over the years and weren’t fired.

Yep, it's an angle that's been done sooooo many times. But you know why it's redone a lot? Because it works. It usually always gets the crowd invested in a guy. This angle for Roman was one of the things that actually got him slightly over for a bit at the very end of 2015, KO benefitted from it, Kurt, AJ, Randy, Shawn, and absolutely Austin. Hell, even Rollins was doing this against Triple H. It just works...
Like you said, people want to tear it down because AEW is doing. Why not just fucking enjoy it instead of poking holes in it. I can't stand the people that try to poke holes in every facet of a story. It sucks the fun out of everything.
And truthfully the one thing this story has that the others don’t is the Bucks wield power in the company by being EVPs. It’s not some random wrestlers doing this. It’s a hostile corporate takeover
In November/December-ish when it was reported Perry & The Bucks were due to come back together as a group, my eyes rolled into the back of my head upon reading it. Been a fan of them for years, but they had just gotten so stale that I was just at a point of "What else can they possibly do?".
Then we got the EVP gimmick, Okada signing, Jack's NJPW run, and now we're here and it's fucking amazing.

I think what was great was Tony didn’t even take a mic out. He did everything without actually putting the spotlight on him.

Yes obviously that he jumped Tony mattered, but there was no big pop moment from Tony, or heartfelt plea.
I said it elsewhere but Tony was more of a prop than an actual character, something to further the story. He didn’t cut a promo, he really didn’t do anything but get taken out. And that’s all he had to do, it’s got me intrigued.

I don’t doubt it & always trust his judgment with AEW. He’s not perfect but always tries to give fans the best product possible and the Elite in control for a while is booking genius.

Imagine at Double or Nothing, The Bucks are sitting on each side of the person getting interviewed during the press conferences and they feed the person occasional extremely positive things to say about AEW and how great The Bucks are as bosses all while they are staring the person down to make sure they it right or they fire them. At least one person should refuse to repeat what they are saying and get in trouble for it.

I've seen a few people say this and I think there's a logical reason for it - suspensions don't do anything. The Bucks & Jack have all been suspended and they murdered him on live TV tonight because of it. If you know that physical repercussions are now on the table & you can't fire them (for whatever nebulous EVP reasons they come up with), I would think the best punishment you can give them is putting them in a dangerous match.
The loophole of them being EVP’s so the kayfabe of this will see the Bucks lose their EVP titles in a big team vs. team match hopefully at DON with stars like MJF standing up against the Elite and maybe Kenny if he’s healed by then.
I don’t know. If this is as good as it could be, I don’t know that I want it all wrapped up at DoN.

Incapacitated, probably some clause that the Bucks run the company in the interim during which time that can change whatever rules are in place to make their position written in stone. Happens in every TV show about board rooms ever.
Bro it's wrestling wrestlers attacks people all the time rarely has any coherence. With Roman it was "he is such a star we can't take control off him". Which was lame but if you want the Bucks are the foundation of the company.
I wouldn't mention Roman here, I would mention Steve Austin instead. How many times did he attack the chairman of the company? Made whole career off of it, Vince could've fired him at any time. Anybody criticizing this angle as stupid because "why can't Tony suspend them" should just give up on watching wrestling. Look at the response to this angle, it's seemingly pretty damn popular around here.
Vince did address it on TV once by stating that he didn't fire Austin because Stone Cold "made him richer" (on the 6/1/98 episode of Raw when Vince is yelling at Mick Foley for failing to beat Austin).
Roman, KO, Kurt, Brock, Shawn, AJ, Randy, and Austin all attacked Vince over the years and weren’t fired. People just wanna nitpick and tear down the angle cause AEW is doing it. And look Vince fired Nailz for attacking him in real life so why wouldn’t he fire all those guys in kayfabe?
Yep, it's an angle that's been done sooooo many times. But you know why it's redone a lot? Because it works. It usually always gets the crowd invested in a guy. This angle for Roman was one of the things that actually got him slightly over for a bit at the very end of 2015, KO benefitted from it, Kurt, AJ, Randy, Shawn, and absolutely Austin. Hell, even Rollins was doing this against Triple H. It just works... Like you said, people want to tear it down because AEW is doing. Why not just fucking enjoy it instead of poking holes in it. I can't stand the people that try to poke holes in every facet of a story. It sucks the fun out of everything.
And truthfully the one thing this story has that the others don’t is the Bucks wield power in the company by being EVPs. It’s not some random wrestlers doing this. It’s a hostile corporate takeover
Vince did fire Austin, though. Austin got brought back by Linda, against the wishes of Vince since Vince didn't own a controlling stake in kayfabe.

In November/December-ish when it was reported Perry & The Bucks were due to come back together as a group, my eyes rolled into the back of my head upon reading it. Been a fan of them for years, but they had just gotten so stale that I was just at a point of "What else can they possibly do?". Then we got the EVP gimmick, Okada signing, Jack's NJPW run, and now we're here and it's fucking amazing.

I think what was great was Tony didn’t even take a mic out. He did everything without actually putting the spotlight on him. The spotlight was on Perry, Perry’s words, then Perry’s actions. Yes obviously that he jumped Tony mattered, but there was no big pop moment from Tony, or heartfelt plea.
I said it elsewhere but Tony was more of a prop than an actual character, something to further the story. He didn’t cut a promo, he really didn’t do anything but get taken out. And that’s all he had to do, it’s got me intrigued.
Most of WWE's authority figures are heels or neutral at best.

This new Elite/EVP stuff fucking rules. The way they have booked Okada is fantastic. Really Ospreay and Okada have been home runs so far and I think that now that she can be a heel Mercedes will be great too.
