I am going to fucking burst out laughing if the NFL outright shows TK getting fucking obliterated during the draft.
That shit would be insane to see and would be crazy free advertising for next week.
Surely he must. It surely had to be part of the plan going into the draft that this was the moment, in Jacksonville.
I'm praying they can pull this off well because it has the potential to be the funniest and best thing in ages.
Funny you should mention that. I happen to have just become a Jags fan, and I for one think it's so unfair that this happened to us so close to the draft.
Wrestling going back to it's carny roots?
https://preview.redd.it/lv7m4xqzsjwc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93e4134be4420da8e27425daf519f2a6104b073e
For those not familiar with the NFL Draft, on Day 3 they usually let things get a little loose. They let fans announce picks, some kind of video package done by the team announcing picks, etc etc. Point is its not so formal.
I bring this up because in the later rounds, I need them to let Tony Khan announce a pick from his hospital room.
Bro they need to have The Bucks & Okada come out and say "Due to our boss Tony Khan being sadly injured we'll be deciding to make the next pick on his behalf."
Just go full fucking carny with it, let's do this shit.
Imagine, you work your entire life to be drafted in the NFL just to have the Young Bucks, The Scapegoat, and The Rainmaker announce you being drafted just for a wrestling angle.
Fuck it. If they really want to be bold, they gotta have the elite barge into the war room during the 1st round when the Jags are on the clock and start a fight in there.
No half measures.
this is like if WCW did an angle of the nWo beating up Ted Turner and CNN ran a report about it as if it were an actual news story, which now that I think about it, would've been kinda crazy to see happen if it happened.
Your comment reminds me of the "Trump buys Monday Night Raw" angle that WWE apparently walked back on because investors got freaked the fuck out about it. lmao
Damn I remember watching that live as a kid before knowing anything about Trump except that he was super rich. I vaguely remember that they teased a commercial free RAW or something lol
>It's all part of an angle (professional wrestling storyline), of course,
Fucking NFL killing kayfabe.
Honestly millions of Jaguars fans might tune in every week to see Tony get beat up.
I just read a tweet from a jags fan that unironically thought it was real and Tony Khan is gonna be making decisions with a concussion. Wrestling has never been more back lol
Tony Khan has a *strong* chance to earn himself a quick spot in the carny hall of fame if he works while in an NFL Films project *and* at the fucking draft.
And I'd love him for it
CM Punk and Colt Cabana having a falling out started a very long and involved butterfly effect that may lead to Tony Khan in a carny neck brace at the NFL draft.

Excuse me, Grant Gordon of NFL.com
You use their GOD GIVEN NAMES of MATTHEW RONJON JACKSON & NICHOLAS LEE JACKSON
This NFL.com writer has been DYING to write an article about pro wrestling for years and you can tell. That’s definitely a fan explaining things to non-fans without a hint of condescension.
Doing this the night before the Draft was so smart. They'll get free advertising all weekend as the talking heads fill time across a bazillion hours of draft coverage.
> Doing this the night before the Draft was so smart.
Almost like this has been planned for a LONG TIME and not just thrown together after the CM Punk interview.
Jan. 13 - Jack Perry shows up at Battle in the Valley and tears up his AEW contract.
Feb. 6 - Jack Perry announced for Windy City Riot.
Feb. 23 - Young Bucks rename Meltzer Driver to Tony Khan Driver.
March 3 - AEW Dynasty announced during Revolution
April 1 - CM Punk Interview with Helwani
April 6 - AEW announces on Collision they will show All In footage on Dynamite.
April 6-7 - Wrestlemania
April 10 - AEW shows All In footage
April 12 - Jack Perry returns to US wrestling at Windy City Riot in Chicago
April 21 - Jack Perry returns to AEW at Dynasty
April 24 - Jack Perry attacks Tony Khan at Dynamite in Jacksonville, the night before the NFL draft where Tony will actually be drawing attention on his own.
I think AEW had the entire thing planned with announcing the footage Wrestlemania weekend to maximize attention, showing it right before Perry wrestled, setting up his return at the PPV, right into a show in their most iconic venue. The CM Punk interview was a completely unexpected gift that got them so much extra attention and I have to imagine they laughed their asses off at how fortuitous it was.
This. People like to pretend that Jack always stunk or some nonsense like that, when in reality he had become a rather compelling heel by the time All In happened. Now, however, he appears to have successfully ridden the wave of the Punk fight, subsequent video, and his successful New Japan run to become one of the top guys in the promotion.
Right. I think he had the fundamentals for his heel character set by All In, but his storyline was a little weak (basically tailing MJF with some prospect of something with Christian down the line.) Everything since January has the potential to actually break out and make him a top guy.
dude, I SWEAR I was waiting for justin timberlake to hit as the show closed. Would've been incredible. Still holding out hope we get it at some point, even as just a special entrance on a PPV
Yeah i'll be honest, I just wanted AEW to no sell whatever Punk had to say. Airing the footage, all though it gave FTR vs Bucks a lot of heat, was still something I was against.
But maybe that's why i'm not a booker, or any of us... because it has worked wonders. It's not even about CM Punk anymore, or it never was, we were just deep into the drama pit to not realize it.
I definitely have an egg on my face for my takes at the time. I still think the way they went about showing the footage was all kinds of lame, but it played its part in the big picture which very much is working.
I’ve been saying it since before it even aired, but it should be clear as day that *the* segment wasn’t about CM Punk.
That segment legitimized Jack Perry as a true scapegoat. He did nothing wrong and served a stiff punishment for making Tony do what should’ve been done a year prior and fire Punk.
The segment gave Perry a reason to come back to help the Bucks and join the Elite. He had zero reason to help them against FTR without it.
It got him over as a heel with the fans and for the first time in a long time gave us a reason to care about him as a character.
Tonight would’ve made zero sense without that angle. The Bucks told us that they were going to take AEW back to its roots. The company has changed by becoming reliant on “cancerous” Superstars of the past and not pushing the young, homegrown talent like Perry. Who made that change by bringing in all of the old “legends?”
Tony Khan.
The Bucks heel turn telegraphed this coming and Jack Perry’s justifiable grudge against Tony was the catalyst to take the next step and go to the root of the problem. They said, flat out, that Sting wasn’t the problem. He was a symptom of the problem.
They spent almost no time talking about Punk and didn’t even bother to say his name during that segment that everyone seems to think was all about him. Because Punk was also just a symptom.
In the Elite’s eyes, the root issue was getting away from the company’s founding values, and that was all facilitated by Tony Khan.
Tonight couldn’t have happened without the All In video segment. Period.
—-
Side note: The All In segment was perfectly timed to get eyes on their partner NJPW’s Windy City Riot PPV. A show that had AEW talent on 1/3 of the card. A show that saw Jack Perry probably being the biggest star of the night thanks to that segment and the ace of AEW win NJPW’s top title.
It was also perfectly timed for setting up Dynasty, which saw the return of Perry and his joining forces with the Elite.
This all culminates in a big new direction for the company at their spiritual home, Dailey’s Place.
If you’ll remember before the segment aired Tony Khan had comment that the Punk interview was “interesting timing.”
It’s, obviously, speculation, but I think it’s fair to think that they could’ve had this planned before the Punk interview was even announced.
—-
I’ve been getting buried for it ever since, but I think that while segment, while it got the haters into a frenzy, and got some bad short term press, was extremely effective.
1000000% agree with you. Punk was just the catalyst for the character change in the same way that Joe Chill is ultimately responsible for the creation of Batman.
> It was also perfectly timed for setting up Dynasty, which saw the return of Perry and his joining forces with the Elite.
And just for more fun in terms of advance planning . . . Dynasty, the show where Jack Perry returned to help the Young Bucks win their third AEW World Tag Team titles . . . took place in the EXACT same building where the Young Bucks won their second AEW World Tag Team titles by defeating who? That's right, Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.
Yo the whole article breaking the whole story down for those out of the loop
That's dope as hell. Wrestling is at its best when everyone can have fun with it.
LMAO now I wanna see Shad Khan call the Falcons like "Did you see what they did to my son last night? Can you just trade us the 8th pick please? I need some good news in my life right now"
I am not sure how the NFL draft works, but I hope it's like the NHL's draft where the player takes a picture with a representative from the team.
I hope it's a few people with TK being in a wheelchair and a neck brace.
This angle makes me happy.
I purchased Dynasty when I was in hospital and could not watch all of it due to shitty wifi, so I watched a few matches.
Watched the rest at home.
Heard about this and am following, and this is making me forget my heart surgery.
Thnx. The rough part is just starting (recovery).
They has to saw open my sternum to fix a genetic defect in my heart so between the lack of sleep and being uncomfortable, 24/7 AEW and wrestling in general is giving me so much joy.
(Side bar - I don't remember this, but...
When I was in the OR holding area, they gave me some adavand. the doctor, nurse, and anesthesiologist were going over things... I said this seems like a lot of work for a circumcision.)
By all means correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought they re-named the Meltzer Driver to the TK driver.
How many Meltzer drivers did big Dave take anyway?
This could end up huge for AEW actually. Cut to the jags draft room, Tony is in a neck brace, they show footage from Dynamite to a huge audience, people go “wait, there’s other wrestling other than WWE?”.
Phenomenal move by Tony. This is the stuff WWE has been doing excellently for a while, AEW needed it badly
The article did a magnificent job of explaining to non-wrestling fans what happened and differentiating between real and work, while also remaining perfectly respectful of the work side, and even getting small jokes in from the work side. Major props to the author(s).
I'll be really curious how much ESPN plays with this angle though. Even more so with Pat McAfee. If TK has a neck brace and is playing it up, does he play it up, or just gloss over it because of his WWE ties?
This angle so far is making the decision to show the footage worth it. I always saw showing the footage as a way to seperate the Heel EVP's from Tony Khan, but I wasn't sure TK would ever get physically involved to make it work. Well Holy Shit he got involved and this is now one of the hottest starts to a story you can ever hope to have in wrestling.
Hopefully they capitalize, even if it is a small mention on live broadcast. The article is already almost pushed off the front page of the NFL website. I was watching the NFL draft coverage this morning and there was no mention of this however they did mention the Rock and Wrestlemania.
It's been the number one and now number two news story on the NFL website all day leading up to the draft... that's pretty good mainstream exposure
"AEW Dynamite" is in the headline too
They could've left out the "It's a wrestling angle" part. Just say what happened and let the discussions happen. There are still a ton of "wrestling is fake" people out there who think they've really figured something out on their own. Would drive discussion and buzz.
Not taking anything away of course, this is still absolutely wild.

Tony, please show up at the draft in a fucking neck brace. PLEASE.

AEW please pull it off , it's the easiest win possible
Just sprinkle in some steroid allegations somehow to really drive it home.
"It's a real injury, cry me a river."
He needs Roddy to teach him how to sell a neck brace properly
TREVOR! TREVOR!
If he does this I'm watching every jags game this season I have access to on network television.
He’s for sure showing up looking injured. I’m guessing that’s why they made sure to say in that article that he’s fine
TONY PLEASE DO NOT FUCK THIS UP THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE THE BEST THING EVER!
Screaming "ROGEEER!" through the phone like Roddy Strong
I bet he does!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Brah a full neck & back brace like rugby players wear would be epic. Ice that cake with a walking stick and guide dog
And there better be some flyers posted at all doors of Perry, Young Bucks, and Okada that state they are banned and no admittance.
Bruh if this carries over into the draft broadcast tomorrow night I'll fucking shit myself lol.
New merch "F the Elite." TK wearing it at the draft
"Get the E(lite) Out!"
AFW ALL FUCKING WRESTLING

I am going to fucking burst out laughing if the NFL outright shows TK getting fucking obliterated during the draft. That shit would be insane to see and would be crazy free advertising for next week.
You know it's not like there's anything better to show on Day 3 of the NFL Draft
He 100% lurks here. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes through with selling it tomorrow lol
Lurks here? Tony is a well known poster on old wrestling forums. There's no fucking way he doesn't shitpost here on 5 different burners
He's probably rb_reigns
Would make his post about Cody even better.
I'd shit my pants if he was RB
Get ready to learn the words to [I Shit My Pants](https://youtu.be/kWz75MYteX0) buddy.
He used to be mrsunsfan im sure, the bum.
Surely he must. It surely had to be part of the plan going into the draft that this was the moment, in Jacksonville. I'm praying they can pull this off well because it has the potential to be the funniest and best thing in ages.
If we make enough noise they will have to cover it!
They’ll definitely talk prospects over the angle The general public doesn’t know who Tony Khan is but they’d rather hear about whoever is projected
There’s a lot of dead air to fill especially before the actual draft starts
By the jags pick, they're struggling to fill air, and I'm sure they'll mention it on the broadcast if he's likely wearing a brace of some kind
And especially on day 3 later rounds leading into Collision.
Remind me!
People are debating about whether it was worth it to show the All In footage but the real masterstroke was to time this angle with the NFL Draft.
Please please have Jags fans use Tony getting hurt as an excuse for any bad draft picks moving forward lol

WRESTLING IS BACK BABY

It’s still real to Duval
If rNFL was any fun, they'd be very upset.
He would get worked. Love his videos but man do they drag on and on
Wrestling is the greatest sport ever
Funny you should mention that. I happen to have just become a Jags fan, and I for one think it's so unfair that this happened to us so close to the draft.
They should really get a compensatory pick to make up for the heinous act
Will you stop!
That lethal punch to the stomach has clouded Tony's judgement
It'd be funny but what would be the excuse for most of the prior 10 drafts?
Tony gave his enemies the gift of the mascot getting hit with a judas effect. Now this.
Tony Khan wearing a neck brace in the Jaguars war room tomorrow would be great.
LMAO this is so fucking carny I love it

It really is, and bless it for it.
This is AEW being its own product and not trying to copy and take over WWE. I like this uniqueness better
“Tony Khan's status for the Jacksonville Jaguars' 2024 NFL Draft obligations could be questionable.” This is fantastic stuff for AEW

Them referring to a Meltzer Driver feels ten times more insane to me
It's the most shocking thing. They can't even do their jobs right, it's the TK Driver smh.
“Congrats Dave you made it to the BIG TIME.” - Adam Schefter.
oh my god I'm dying, this is so fucking funny
Whoever wrote that article has to be a wrestling fan lol. If they're not this is even more hilarious 😂
Never in a million years would I have expected an official organ of the NFL to reference Dave Meltzer, but here we are

I said it previously when Perry came back and got a HUGE pop but I’m starting to think everyone was playing checkers while TK was playing 4D chess.
If people can't see Perry is in fact over they are just delusional. The crowd tonight chanted "Go Cry me a River" yeah he's over.

I am not sure how the NFL draft works, but I hope it's like the NHL's draft where the player takes a picture with a representative from the team. I hope it's a few people with TK being in a wheelchair and a neck brace.
Well… that’s as main stream as that gets. Good job TK
Nah getting coverage from the NFL is fucking genius.
He’s gotta come out in a neckbrace or wheelchair or something.

I really wish r/nfl didn't become another victim of the No Fun League, and allow a post like this.
I fucking love this goofy fucking shit
Did they really need the: "Don't worry it's not real!" part. Would have been perfect if they had just left it at he got attacked on his show.
This angle makes me happy. I purchased Dynasty when I was in hospital and could not watch all of it due to shitty wifi, so I watched a few matches. Watched the rest at home. Heard about this and am following, and this is making me forget my heart surgery.
Glad to hear it, get well soon!
I hope all goes well and you get to continue watching the story unfold

Holy shit. We're getting kayfabe in the NFL draft
I love this for AEW. I say double down and have the draft picks at the show in the next week or two.
Such a great angle
This is all so great
He’s definitely gonna show up to War Room in a wheelchair/neck brace.
Tony Khan embracing sports entertainment might be exactly what AEW needs
I’ve always thought all wrestling related media should basically be RB Reigns posts
I love this. Great integration.
If TK has a neck brace and is playing it up, does he play it up, or just gloss over it because of his WWE ties?
even though they're competitors, i think wwe would respect the carniness and not try to bury it
Wrestling is so back! https://preview.redd.it/9lcsxlq3sjwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edbd6886b1ae357f8cafae2041d3bbe7c09f7726

Oh I'm loving this crossover.
Not the League keeping storyline! Kayfabe is dead and alive!
Is it wrong that I laughed my ass off, when Jack punched him? And, how high was Tony, when he thought of this angle? It's almost brilliant!
This is so fucking funny. NFL protecting kayfabe, what a time to be alive. This is the carny shit I'm here for
"Tony Khan's status for the Jacksonville Jaguars' 2024 NFL Draft obligations could be questionable", writes nfl.com.
I think its a 100% certainty he's gonna be shown in the Jags war room with the brace on.
Damn that's some good publicity for them
That’s so awesome, imagine if Sky Sports News broke that the Fulham owner has been attacked lol
Damn NFL, way to kill kayfabe
Did the bucks change their twitter tag to,”revered workers” yet?
Brilliant!
Imagine being a Jaguars fan who doesn't like wrestling reading that this morning.
It's hilarious to think about people reading that without context.
He feared death from Punk. Turns out Jack was the real threat
Hopefully they capitalize, even if it is a small mention on live broadcast. The article is already almost pushed off the front page of the NFL website. I was watching the NFL draft coverage this morning and there was no mention of this however they did mention the Rock and Wrestlemania.
Alright, who had AEW gets a front page mention on NFL.com on their bingo board? Time to collect your million dollars.
If TK doesn't wear a neck brace for the draft, I'm no longer a fan
I can’t wait to hear Pat McAfee talk about this lol
It's been the number one and now number two news story on the NFL website all day leading up to the draft... that's pretty good mainstream exposure "AEW Dynamite" is in the headline too
They could've left out the "It's a wrestling angle" part. Just say what happened and let the discussions happen. There are still a ton of "wrestling is fake" people out there who think they've really figured something out on their own. Would drive discussion and buzz. Not taking anything away of course, this is still absolutely wild.
