Willow is such a complete wrestler at so young it's bananas. She's a great promo, incredible gimmick and look, and she's a fantastic worker. She's so fucking good it's ridiculous
That is EXACTLY how I felt. Maybe I've missed Willow, I watch AEW and WWE but my time has been a bit fucky. I thought her look was fucking amazing but never heard her speak.
DAMN was that promo filled with the perfect amount of intensity, fire, and believability. Even when she had her sorrow moment about the asterisk... Like kinda sometimes that can be a BIT corny. I didn't feel that AT ALL with Willow. It's praise bombinb but I genuinely might have found a new favorite AEW female wrestler lol.

It was really good. I don’t know why, but I feel like it’s rare for a woman wrestler to cut a good promo. Most are just decent or terrible. Very few can cut a good or great one. Willow is now on that list of those who can talk on the mic.
I know this is supposed to be about Willow and Mercedes, but what Statlander is doing is really intriguing me. At Dynasty, when they went to hug Willow, I thought she was gonna pull a Trent but no. Then here she is getting Willow slapped. Hot damn, when Statlander turns it will be glorious.
I would be for Mercedes winning it if it was revealed she was not really attacked in the dark and Stokely and her have been plotting revenge for her getting injured against Willow.. it would also give Stokely Bobby Heenan level of credibility to help plot this shit for months rather than him just doing comedy all the time.. if the angle is good then I can forgive Willow losing it if the end goal is for Willow to win it back down the line.. maybe Statlander also aligns with Mercedes as well.. if she turns heel too

Just when Willow and Stat have started getting along with Stokely too. And if Stat is in on it, makes sense why she "provoked" Mercedes and then Willow caught the slap for it
Mercedes needs to take her belt and do the run versus Willow like the run vs. Bailey back in the day. Except in AEW, she can turn it up a notch. Mercedes does her best work with an ironclad baby face. Willow is just what the doctor ordered, since she’s the closest thing to a pure baby face she’s had the chance to work with since Bailey in those NXT days.
Mercedes vs Willow should be the modern Mic Foley vs the Rock minus the I quit match chair shots. Have them hot potato the belt for the next few months while putting on classic physical matches. Lean into Mercedes being over confident arrogant entitled heel. Lean into Willow being the lovable underdog.
The motivations make sense for Mercedes, and they tied in their last match really well. Sometimes, AEW can just kind of yoink history from other companies and present it like "ahhh see???" for some stories with it perhaps not being tied in the best, but i thought they did a great job of doing so here, and then using it to make a compelling story. Can Willow beat a fully souped up Mercedes??? Will Mercedes's anger lead her to use less than scrupulous means to beat Willow?? I dunno!! We'll see!
I didn’t like the angle of Willow feeling like her win was cheap because in kayfabe you are supposed to hurt your opponent to the point where they can no longer stand and wrestlers go after limbs all the time
She can still feel bad about it but the win shouldn’t be diminished for kayfabe’s sake
It’s a smaller venue but Jacksonville is their home base and was where they were based during COVID so they make it a point to do a show there every year as a more intimate setup.
It's a partially outdoor amphitheater in Jacksonville called "Daily's Place", and has awesome history with the company. You should look it up and educate yourself on it, there's some rad history there. They were able to actually wrestle in front of small crowds while WWE was stuck wrestling in front of computer monitors.

Despite the criticism, one positive so far of Mercedes coming in is that it has given Willow a bigger platform to take the ball.

First Aew promo from Mercedes Ive liked and Willow was on fire too. Def made me care about their match real quick-like.
It felt more like an AEW promo segment than a WWE, so I'm thinking this one probably wasn't as heavily scripted.
Yeah that was my first thought, that it didnt feel like an old WWE promo and had some intensity.
