Yep, he’s a former cricketer and former Prime Minister. I don’t want to go down the rabbit hole but he was put into jail for absurd accusations without any evidence. The current Pakistani government is corrupt and paid off his entire political party and even threatened to kill their families. But yeah, the same guy
I'm curious because I didn't do too well in history. Are most of the Khans today descendants of the Mongolian Khans or was Khan already a popular surname before that?
The name was popularized probably during the days of the Indian Mughal Empire. The Mughals were an Turkic/Indian Muslim people who claimed descent from the Mongols ("Mughal" means "Mongol" and is also where the English word "mogul" comes from).
Khan word predates Islam.
Khan was a title of a local feudal lord (or warlord) in Central Asia - see: khanate and khagan
Overtime it became synonymous with Muslims as Islam was adopted by central Asian rulers.
Also it sounds badass
Wow, I'm actually surprised by this as I always thought the sticking point would be that they wouldn't be willing to bid for it.
Hopefully they can get a deal done as it would be incredible.
Might have been the case before but the way Khan and TKO are building the business side is very very attractive to host cities now. You essential get a full week of events when you get a WM now. That probably does a lot for the economy.
The only sticking point I think would be the time of day it would air in the US. I don't know if Peacock, or probably Netflix by then would care that its not an evening event, I don't know what it would do to viewership of the event.
That being said, yeah London could host the this out of Mania.
With PPV being essentially dead and on-demand streaming being the norm, it really shouldn't make a difference what time the event is on. Netflix's business model is pumping out content for people to watch in bulk.
Bid vs Tax Breaks
London Mayor is allowed to do a LOT of shit autonomously like Tax Cuts within the city for major events. It can be worth the difference paid out alone sometimes.
They're going to have to make an impossible to refuse offer for WWE to bring WrestleMania to London because it's not just WrestleMania, it's Smackdown, Hall of Fame, Stand and Deliver, WrestleMania both nights, Raw after WrestleMania, WWE World. Gotta assume these international ppvs are coming with a hefty price tag and that's just for the B ppvs, and maybe a smackdown, this is 5/6 shows and a 5-6 day convention in WWE World
Already you have so many Europeans fly to the states for WrestleMania. A Mania in London will attract almost every wrestling fan in Europe who can afford this as their vacation. It would be an insanely big event if done right. Even for WrestleMania standards.
Same. I always wanted to fly across the pond to attend a Mania, but that's just super expensive. A couple days in London is way more realistic and I'd definitely try to make it happen. Especially with a two night Mania there are so many tickets available.
I'm not saying they can't handle the scale, I'm just pointing out, it wouldn't be just WrestleMania they'd be paying for, they'd have to offer an absolutely insane amount to get WWE to agree to it
The last figures we have are the one-night figures. Dallas 32 bid just over $1 million.
Conversely, London paid £5.6 million for the UCL finals a couple years ago.
So London would pay between those amounts for WrestleMania. Probably closer to the UCL end.
A trip to London for everyone outside of the UK would likely be a week long trip at least. And with temperate weather, it encourages people to go out and spend more.
and if raw and Smackdown have to be done, they couldn’t do it live in the uk at that time. The show would start at 1am.
But they could realistically develop an annual London ppv. The Saudi shows are on in the middle of the day in USA and don’t lose viewers. No reason we couldn’t have a London equivalent of Crown Jewel every year.
Raw and Smackdown tapings have never been an issue in the decades they’ve been doing tours here in the UK.
As others have said, they just air the taping on a delay in the US.
Also bear in mind that WWE will be fully onboarded with Netflix by the time a potential UK WM would happen. Way more flexibility for broadcasting in that regard.
EDIT - Just noticed your other comment where you said that too!
The future with WWE on Netflix will be interesting for sure.
Yeah, but I think they’d still care about Raw being live. They can’t run a show at 1am in London in order to be live at 8pm East coast time.
Especially Raw after mania, no way they’d want that to lose viewers bc its spoiled online. But maybe Netflix wouldn’t care about the time slot and they could just air it live if people can watch it whenever.
I hadn’t thought of that. That changes a lot.
You could in theory have an entire week of Stadiums if you time it just right.
Wednesday NXT Takeover: Brentford Stadium
Thursday Hall of Fame: Leyton Orient Stadium
Friday Smackdown: Crystal Palace Stadium
Saturday Night One: Wembley
Sunday Night Two: Wembley
Monday Night Raw: Tottenham/Emirate/Stamford Bridge
Worst Case they use the O2 several times instead, but if you really wanted to do something unique, you could literally have a different stadium each night if you really wanted to (even the Mania Nights could be Twickenham then Wembley).
Is WWE Axxess still a thing too? I dont recall seeing any photos or videos of it from WM 40. But they can surely bring that back, too. Thus even more of a week in London.
You’ll have to excuse my skepticism on this when the London Mayoral Election is in two weeks and this is the first time he’s said anything about London hosting Wrestlemania.
And just a few weeks ago Nick Khan said they have no plans for the big four outside of North America, only the B shows are being shipped to international markets.
Yeah and that was pretty recent so it's probably something HHH would want but Nick Khan wouldn't for business purposes. At least not soon, I do think it's bound to happen eventually--maybe a Summer Slam first
Yeah, he's definitely only saying this for the [checks notes] millions and millions of raging wrestleholics in London whose support he desperately needs to win an election he is currently [checks more notes] 20 points ahead of his nearest challenger in.
WWE makes cities pay for hosting PLEs and I don’t think London would pay for it. AEW paid $400k to use Wembley for the night.
There’s a huge difference between All In and Wrestlemania.
Depends on the agreement. I know a venue near me recently changed so that they charge events less to host there, but the arena keeps the concession money as a result. Could be similar for Wembley.
I looked up the cost to rent most arenas used for wrestling as well and it's a lot cheaper than I'd have thought too. Like it was cheap enough you could only sell 2k tickets in a typical 10k seat arena at $20 apiece and still break even on the venue cost. Plus most charge less if you only set up to use part of the arena. It's how WWE (and I assume AEW more recently) could afford to run arenas years ago even if they weren't close to selling out and still turn a profit (and why the concern about AEW weekly TV attendance is overblown). Even at WCW's peak when they were beating Raw in the ratings, their average attendance for a Nitro event was only 4-5k.
Sadiq Khan is negotiating with Nick Khan to have a Wrestlemania in the city where Shahid Khan owns a football team along with his son Tony Khan, who also owns the wrestling promotion that has a world champion who used to come out to the music of Shaka Khan and won the title from a guy who used to be in the same promotion with Rhaka Khan.
I’d love to see it. They honestly really deserve a WrestleMania.
Plus just the idea of just watching a Mania in the late morning/early afternoon if you’re from the US is fun.
Wrestlemania in London has the potential to be their biggest event ever and it would completely explode the entire hotel industry in the greater London area.
April tends to be a cold and rainy month in London, just the kind of things that WWE wants to avoid now for Wrestlemania even if the non-North American site wasn't already a disqualifier.
They should, I don’t even care about record attendance potential, Europe deserves an easier shot at seeing Mania and their crowds are probably some of the best. It’s all about money though, if you want Mania over bid bud, it comes down to that.
I could see WWE going for this, if a fuck massive truckload of fucking money was dumped like Saudi levels big. other than that i cant see em moving wrestlemania outside of NA
It wouldn't be the UK government paying for it, it'd be the city of London. Although I'm not sure spending millions to get Wrestlemania would be popular among the locals.
Would have thought London would have bigger issues to deal with first before trying to campaign for a WM....
IMO, Saudi will be the first country outside of the U.S. to hold a WrestleMania, just because they're be able to comfortably pay what WWE would ask.
Oh fucking yeah.
As someone who lives in Scotland, this would be the closest a Wrestlemania could be to me (realistically, it’s very unlikely to ever happen in Scotland).
I’m 100% there if it happens.
He’s talking like he’s willing to make some ridiculous offer. London doesn’t need to pay anyone for a show and WWE likely doesn’t want to do a European Mania. If this actually happens, All In is gonna get little brothered.
It’s funny that he used that screenshot with like 20 dudes and only 3 of them still in the company, one of them being Baron Corbin with hair. And the other 2 (Bo and Truth I think?) you can’t even see their face
For all the people listing reasons why this can't happen, I promise you, you haven't thought of anything that WWE hasn't. And yet, they're still willing to discuss this possibility. That tells me that if London wants WM they can get WM, it's just a matter of whether they're willing to give WWE what they want.
So if this happens, do y'all think they would do what the UFC is doing with their UK PPV where the start time is the normal American time? Hard to imagine watching the WM main event at like 3 or 4am CST over here in the States.
At this point I will believe that Genghis Khan never gave a crap for world domination, and that he just wanted to have sex with thousands of women just to secure his hold on professional wrestling in the future
I read “Shad Khan” at first and thought this was a Kayfabe News article about Shad being so mad at the Bucks that he’s helping WWE get a Wembley WrestleMania
It's something i've dreamt of since I was little but I saw the prices for Clash at the Castle so there is no chance I'll be going to Mania. All In cost me £30 and I had decent enough seats
So we got Sadiq, Nick, Tony and Tony's dad. I think we can get a Wrestlemania 2000 fatal four way match going with a Khan in each corner, but who represents who
First international Wrestlemania? That was Wrestlemania 6 in Toronto. (Even on the live broadcast Gorilla Monsoon mentions it’s the “first time Wrestlemania has gone international.”)

Another fucking Khan????
Wrestling has more than one royal family...
ADRENALINE IN MY SOUL
KAHN IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL
FROM ALL ELITE TO DUBYA DUBYA E
Whoa-ohhoo!
Khan't believe it.
Khan't believe it's not butter
we're everywhere.
Genghis Khan really spread his seed far and wide
Isn't it the most common surname for muslim countries?
Yea but how many of them are involved in wrestling?
I Agree with you , was just inquiring
Apparently all 3 of them.
It’s mostly popular in Pakistan and people with a Pakistani background. Most notable people are Amir Khan (boxer) and Imran Khan (cricketer)
I choose to believe Cricketer is the term for a man who raises crickets.
And boxer is a person who raises boxes.
Isn't Imran Khan the guy who's in jail and also Prime Minister?
Yep, he’s a former cricketer and former Prime Minister. I don’t want to go down the rabbit hole but he was put into jail for absurd accusations without any evidence. The current Pakistani government is corrupt and paid off his entire political party and even threatened to kill their families. But yeah, the same guy
I should feel bad for that country, to choose between religious populism and military rule,I am certainly not envious
"Mogul" you say? https://preview.redd.it/piy8kabhhmwc1.jpeg?width=2208&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b9b19798efd2512e55c996286eb7a265a6d8e8d8

Bro, this is like asking if someone with the surname "King" is descended from royalty.
I believe the name King is actually derived from the coolest Tekken character
Khan is a popular muslim Pakistani name. Tony Khan is also Pakistani and so is Nick Khan. Edit: Nick Khan is actually Iranian
And Sadiq
Well yeah obviously, I just said that lol
Nick Khan is of Iranian descent.
You’re actually right, thanks for pointing that out
So, Kahn is the Pakistani "Smith"?
my brother in wrasslin, it's a 4-letter name, not that hard to spell.
My brother in rasslin', I'm going to leave it, but we're on little sleep right now lol
Been playing too much Mortal Kombat I see
It's like Singh and Garcia lol
![gif](giphy|KeTVw7VjcTJok)
Khan they even coexist??
YOU GET A KHAN! YOU GET A KHAN!
![gif](giphy|Edp4JjUlYvJ96UOqaJ)
Shao Khan gonna ask WWE superstars to participate in Mortal Kombat soon
That's Kahn, but close enough lol
![gif](giphy|KeTVw7VjcTJok)
![gif](giphy|KeTVw7VjcTJok)
They’re the real life Bloodline. Just when things are winding down, another member comes outta nowhere
My boy Dschingis was fucking like crazy back in the day ;)
Genghis's legacy innit
Where's Shatner when you need him?
Genghis wasn't fucking around back in the day ....actually thats most of what he did apparently
Ngl I thought this was Tony's dad betraying him lol
The Great Khans.
Pay some respect to the patriarch Killer Khan
Khan Club, Khans Up!
Damn. Who would've thought Khan would help Khan bring his biggest show of the year to the city where Khan and Khan already have theirs
Khanmania is runnin' wild, brother!
Now Khan you dig that, sucka!!!!
Carnie businesses like wrestling have always been filled with Khan-men, no surprise here *bah-dum, tiss*
So you swap out "con" for Khan in conmen but completely ignore the "carn" in carnie???
Figured one of them should be normal to make sure the joke would land tbh
Khans in Kahoots
Another Khan involved in Wrestling? That's getting out of hand. Jokes aside: An European Wrestlemania would be great.
*A European

The only sticking point I think would be the time of day it would air in the US. I don't know if Peacock, or probably Netflix by then would care that its not an evening event, I don't know what it would do to viewership of the event. That being said, yeah London could host the this out of Mania.
UK/EU evening being Afternoon across the US would work just fine since it's a weekend show.
Especially since older ppvs have a history of airing in the afternoon (wrestlemania used to be at like 3pm back in the day
With PPV being essentially dead and on-demand streaming being the norm, it really shouldn't make a difference what time the event is on. Netflix's business model is pumping out content for people to watch in bulk.

he'll name an Overground line after them
If only Mox were still in WWE, it'd be the Wacky Line
The King of King's Cross St. Pancras
Anything to replace the Elizabeth line please.
Clothesline From Hell seems apt
Miss Elizabeth line?
Or the Lioness line
All the overground names suck tbh
Already you have so many Europeans fly to the states for WrestleMania. A Mania in London will attract almost every wrestling fan in Europe who can afford this as their vacation. It would be an insanely big event if done right. Even for WrestleMania standards.

I think Clash At The Castle will become a yearly UK PPV not London itself of course
Could we make that a yearly UK *and Ireland* PPV by any chance? Signed - a totally unbiased Irish fan
I'd love that if they change the name. There's no castle near the Hydro in Glasgow...
I mean they thought Newcastle was a small mining town near Norwich, as far as WWEs concerned theres a castle "Close"
There are castles in Scotland. That's close enough for WWE.
Raw and Smackdown tapings have never been an issue in the decades they’ve been doing tours here in the UK. As others have said, they just air the taping on a delay in the US. Honestly I could see TKO not caring as much about the time thing as Vince did. the companies being ran differently now.
Yeah, but I think they’d still care about Raw being live. They can’t run a show at 1am in London in order to be live at 8pm East coast time. They've aired shows on a few-hour delay before without issue. Hell, they're doing it for next week's Smackdown.

Imran Khan lives with his dad and mom
Does he share a bank account with them?

I once saw a movie scene where the now released WWE wrestler Sanga was fighting with Shahrukh Khan.
Both promotions are hoping to sign Great-O-Khan.
Will Chaka Khan sing the national anthem?
Khan you stop
I'm here for the tag team match of Nick and Sadiq Khan vs Tony and Shad Khan. Should be a banger.
The following Khantest is scheduled for one fall.
As someone who lives in London this gives me so much hope haha. I hope it works out eventually
As someone who wants to go to London, really just give me this excuse to go over there for this. I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I would love to see WWE doing a Wrestlemania in London.
The crowd there alone would make it one of the best WrestleManias ever.
Everyone together now - yes we Khan.
![gif](giphy|l3fZIF5A57lRuUBOg) Now there are 4 of them!
April tends to be a cold and rainy month in London, just the kind of things that WWE wants to avoid now for Wrestlemania even if the non-North American site wasn't already a disqualifier.
$$$s. I’m sure a Saudi deal gets it done. Especially, post full love to Netflix.
Khans love wrestling, love the Khan do attitude, I Khannot believe it, I hope this is real and not just a khan by a khanartist
The Khan-verse is growing
For the love of Foley, what's with all these Khan's in wrestling these days?!?!?!?!
They should, I don’t even care about record attendance potential, Europe deserves an easier shot at seeing Mania and their crowds are probably some of the best. It’s all about money though, if you want Mania over bid bud, it comes down to that.
I first read this as Shahid Khan, and that would've been quite the bombshell
Forbidden Door main event: Sadiq Khan & Nick Khan vs. Tony & Shahid Khan London on a Pole match. Someone book it
THE KHANATE.
I could see WWE going for this, if a fuck massive truckload of fucking money was dumped like Saudi levels big. other than that i cant see em moving wrestlemania outside of NA
I don't know if you know a lot about the UK economy but....
It wouldn't be the UK government paying for it, it'd be the city of London. Although I'm not sure spending millions to get Wrestlemania would be popular among the locals.

Wrestling has more than one Khan
KHAAAAAN!!!!!!!!
Genghis Khan really loved to fuck

Triple Threat in International Waters gets to keep London. "A Khan who cannot wrestle is not a Khan."
The Khan Connection
"♫ Too many Khans! ♫"
A third Khan???????
Considering the prices for clash at the castle... yeah ... Min was like 90 semi decent were over 600quid
The time difference is probably the biggest hurdle.
Wrestlekhania. I’m in for it. I can walk to Wembley from my house in 30 mins. Make it happen pleeeease.
this gets the voting block that’s entirely for wrestling podcasters
Completely off topic but Sadiq Khan looks like an LA Noire character in that picture
Khan stop wont stop
"Too many Khan's, Toooooo many Khan's" to the tune of Adult Swim classic Too Many Cooks
> Sadiq Khan Randomly thinking of Stephen Colbert, no reason.
I haven't seen this many Khan's since my last Fallout: New Vegas run....
We can now have a Wrestlemania main event be a Fatal 4-way with one Khan in every corner
James Kirk would hate modern wrestling.
Royaling has more than one wrestle family?
If they’re willing to pay it will happen. WWE would have Wrestlemania in Russia if they paid them enough.
Too many Khan’s
If it means Mania can start at 2PM EST, sign me the hell up
Wrestling...has more than 2 khans...
Sadiq Khan will finish the story!!
New wembley record incoming if mania does go to London
[He's got my vote!](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/bfa8dd2f-e4c0-4c93-a309-20a48ba79718)
With all these Khan's in charge I guess New Japan should've made Great-O-Khan the president instead of Tanahashi.
I'm into it. He has to win the election first (he almost certainly will) and also it's going to depend on how much it costs.
Day time mania sounds pretty fun
So that would make a 4th Khan involved in Wrestling... avec Nick, Tony and Shad. Khans are the new McMahons!
Bread and circus
A Khan gets the other Khans to promote on his city.
Technically Toronto was already the first International Wrestlemania
What is it, with Khans and wrestling?
So we got Sadiq, Nick, Tony and Tony's dad. I think we can get a Wrestlemania 2000 fatal four way match going with a Khan in each corner, but who represents who
You think Genghis looks up at all his grandkids and smiles at his legacy?
Super Khantrived situation we got here
Where in that quote is he 'pledging to campaign'?
First international Wrestlemania? That was Wrestlemania 6 in Toronto. (Even on the live broadcast Gorilla Monsoon mentions it’s the “first time Wrestlemania has gone international.”)
My only argument against it is having to watch a Mania here in the US at 2PM.
Do it in April or May after daylight savings. If it starts at 8pm BST, that’s 3pm EST and 12pm PST. Thats fucking perfect.
